My short film "Garrett" ( http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=38926 ) was selected to be shown at the Hyart Film Festival this August. I just found out, now I have to figure out if I wish to go all the way out to Lovell, Wyoming to attend the festival. =) Yay. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1867548/ http://www.wyomingtourism.org/overview/Hya...Festival/533108

Third and perhaps final movie in the Prismatic series, Prismatic Dance is made from one video clip and an audio track. No sprites in this movie. The single model used in the choreography is a simple block shape with 4 spheres. The same light-box color pattern (TGA image sequence) from the other Prismatic movies is decaled onto each of the spheres. The spheres are Boolean cutters. As the spheres move, grow, and shrink over the course of the animation, they transfer the color patterns to the carved out surfaces of the block. Here is a wireframe/shaded birds-eye view of the cho 2 minutes into the animation: Here is a render of the same view sho…

I was just wondering if Hash had any plans to update their import / export plugins and perhaps add some. I would be interested in an FBX export/import plugin as it's one of the standards and something I require (As I'm sure I'm not the only one). If not soon or not ever, I was also wondering if there was anyone else in the community that works with DX Studio and or Unity 3D and knows of a nice transition to use Animation Master in their game development pipeline. DX Studio uses .X files however I'm not to sure if the export is 100% compatible as I've not had much luck with it. This could be due to me not knowing what options I should be selecting as output…

In the past I have posted about 3D printing from A:M, however, this time I thought I would show some of the work from my day job and how A:M plays a big part in it. We recently finished work on ICE AGE LIVE. An ice show that will be touring Europe for the next few years. We designed and built the large puppets and costumes for the show. In order to reproduce the characters as accurately as possible, I took the original animation geometry from Blue Sky Studios into Animation Master, and after a bit of modification to fit human performers where necessary, I patterned directly off the digital character within A:M to create flat patterns for our fabric department …

My very first character modeling and animation in Animation:Master. I intended to give this as a Christmas card in 1997 but didn't quite finish in time so it got slightly repurposed. Bones, Moving Camera, Textures, Lights, Shadows, Decals, even Refraction... all the 1990s CG bells and whistles are here. The files are long gone, it survives only as this flip book which I carried in my portfolio for years.

Similar to Prismatic Fracture, this movie is composited from two clips made in A:M. The first clip (the color pattern) is the same as was used in Fracture. It is used in four tracks in DaVinci Resolve. The bottom track is the base clip with Composite mode = Normal. Tracks 2, 3, and 4 are this clip image-flipped horizontally, vertically, and horizontally/vertically with Composite mode = Add to achieve a symmetrical image: The second clip (the black and white pattern) uses the same black-edged white square sprite as Fracture, but the emitter is a truncated cone. The resulting image has a large-scale symmetry while having an asymmetrical feel…

Have had difficulties with mystery channels appearing in the PWS ( I hope I'm using the right word with channels ? ) and the rotate handles on bones suddenly growing very large but never known what might be the cause. Yesterday morning, I went through all the models in the chor and deleted the oddities then worked on the walk of one of the figures, having hid the other models. In the evening I unhid the others and prepared to render it out, only to find that the mystery channels had reappeared, along with the elongated roll handles. I've circled both in this screen grab. The problem seemed to come about when the models were group selected in the PWS…

Hi, I have a material that's supposed to create an atmosphere around a planet... however it won't work, its missing something. I need to create a green glow around these non-green spheres. Anyone have any ideas? Going to look at 'material effect' see if that's an option. Other wise I do not know how to make a material extend beyond the sphere it's attached to. Thanks, Rusty

Hello everyone ... Thought I would share something from my Facebook with you guys (Robert suggested that I should also post it here). Just a little backstory, the guy in his underwear was originally created for my website about 20 years ago and he has been with me ever since. He doesn't have a name other than I know him as "Wedgeeguy" (if he turned around then you would know why I call him that). Anywho, just thought I would share my latest creation with all of you. Hope that you enjoy and I hope that 2021 behaves itself. Happy New Year!

Nothing earth shattering; just a different way to layout patches based on the idea of retopolgy; i.e. using an existing model as a template for a new mesh. The first image shows the original model - the red hood of a 1955 Chevy truck - modeled by Stian and generously lent to me. As you can see he formed the surface in the typical fashion by drawing splines along the major contour lines. But as usual when you have a cylindrical/spherical detail in a rectangular surface you can't avoid generating 3 and/or 5 point patches; which, as you can see in the second image, sometimes are not realistically smooth no matter how much you tweak the bias handles. Believe me I tried. …

I used AM waaay back, now I'm thinking of getting back to it. But I need to know if I can export to a particular game engine/platform, Panda3d. I see Patchwork3d exports directX, this is perfect (or so I hope) as Panda3d has import capabilities for DirectX files. But before I plunk down the cash, does anyone have a character I could do some testing with? Anything with some simple animations that have been exported into DirectX with this plugin? If anyone could send me one or direct me to a download, I would most appreciate it, thanks! Martan

Hi friends .... I developed a rig to use with BVH motion. For each bvh I have to setup the same constraint to the same bones to the same links(bvh "bones"). Since the name of the bones are the same (my own rig) and also the links(bones) of the BVH are the same(name). Is there a way to export these instructions of constraints and then import them into a new action, using the same rig with a different BVH (diferent movements but with the same "links" (names)). Do I made myself clear? I attached the rig represented by solid structures Bones_to_bvh.mov

I've got a 45 frame walk cycle. When I drop it onto a model, it's fine. But when I constrain the model to a path, it wants to make the walk cycle around 1/10th its length, like 4.5 frames, so in a 90 frame clip the walk cycle loops around ten times. I feel like I've seen this before but I cannot figure out how to fix it. This is happening in both v 16 and v 17.

I've found a case where running a simCloth simulation while looking in the Camera view is a problem. A simulation that would run in a reasonable time if I started it from a Birdseye view would get bogged down with many tens of thousands of "collisions" (see lower left corner of the screen shot) to try to solve if I started it in the camera view. My experience is that anything more than a few hundred collisions is a sign of a simulation going bad and 30,000 is pretty much crazy stuff that has gone off the rails and will never finish properly. For simple situations like "Wave the Flag" I don't think Camera View will be an issue, and if you have created…

I'm working with a rock being struck by lightening. Have got the lightening to look the way I want it to but, would like to make the rock heat up as a result of the strike, with the colour spreading down from the point of impact Initially I had thought to do it using a diffuse colour change animated through different layers but that started to look like a Doctor Who scarf made out of stone, with colour bands. Can anyone kindly suggest a method that might work ? I wondered about animated maps perhaps ? regards simon This is Ray on his rock.

In several chors, My Midge model won't show its bones in skeletal mode or cp's in muscle mode. If I pick through the bones in the pws I can manipulate them but that's really slow and cumbersome. The other models I've checked seem to be okay but this one keeps acting up. is there something I'm overlooking that would cause this to happen?

Noticed a glitch, I have a character that is being tossed into frame to be comp'd in to back ground. When character is not in frame to where it is a blank back ground it takes 2 hours to render each frame when there is nothing to render. Yet once he is in frame it takes 45 seconds. So I usually have to follow him with the camera and then After effect it back to how it would have originally looked. Anyone noticed this or know why? VS 13 OS XP SP2 2 gigs of ram 2 TB of HD space

While I was somewhat active on this forum, I was also creating alot of things I've never shared with you, until now. I was (and I still am) using Animation: Master for many years to create 3D work. I was also learning other animation software as well and I think I have improved my knowledge for animation in general alot since then. Here are some of my best projects I created using Animation: Master. I should also mention that only the first of the five animated projects I created has subtitles. 2015 This animated short film was created to show some of the most exciting attractions of my city, Drama, located in Greece. 2016 In this a…

If you're running the latest version of OS X, you have access to the new Mac App Store. There's a free application in there called "Art Text Lite." It reminds me a little of an old application called TypeStyler that I used to use in the old days. Anyway, the free version comes with several preset styles. If you make a circle and apply the styles to them, you can then save out large resolution spheres that you can use with the Matcap shader! (Make sure your final image is square and has a black background.) If you spend the $20 for the full version, you have access to even more preset styles and you can customize your own.

Every year since 2007 I have been creating a video to hype up our family's annual Carpet Ball tournament. Some of you here may recall me doing my WIP threads every year and im sure everyone was questioning where it was. But probably not I didnt have quite as much time this year to put into it. Next years is going to be far better. I am planning t recreate new models and retire these characters. They have had a good run but its time to make something I am more proud of and would show to potential employers. This year's was just to be more 'epic' and I based the whole video around the song With Great Power by Immediate Music. Very epic movie trailer style music.…

My "Planes Trains Automobiles" Contest entry was an experiment in displacement mapping... The body of the car is just a simple spline form... All the surface details... the doors, the handles, the windows, the rubber and chrome trim... that is all made with displacement maps. There isn't an easy way to manually paint such maps in a paint program but it was easy to model the shapes on a flat plane. I put a white-to-black gradient on them and shot the arrangement with an orthogonal camera. That render to OpenEXR format was applied to the body to be the displacement map. I made maps that way for the front and back de…

What is better than X11 Release 23? X11 Release 24! "X11" was the software that ran Nortel's Big Switch. This is a program open I did at Nortel in 1999 with A:M v7 This was before the "font wizard". A:M could create the outline of a font but you still had to extrude the sides, close off the front and back and create your own bevels if you wanted them. IDL_R24_OpenH.mov

Hey guys, sorry if the topic description made it sound like a 'marijuana reference'... I use patch images a lot, they RULE! And lately I have been playing with eXporting A:M data so I can use it in Element 3D, Cinema 4D (Maybe I AM stoned!) and trying to get A:M/bake imagery to play nice with polygonal UVW placements(making slit-wrist motions!) and I notice that patch images seem to be 'immune' to the whole baking process. ALSO- any links to some good tuts on this subject?

Hello, As some may already know, I have been a user of A:M for more than 30 years. I walked right into the front office of Hash HQ to buy my first copy in 1993, and I still have the disks. I am not usually able to show much of my work outside of the studio, however, at the request of Robert Holmén I have assembled a brief look at how I use A:M in my design work. Even though in my job I need to know a large library of applications, I still like using A:M when I can because of how quickly I can get from an idea to something moving on the screen. Often, I am using A:M to create previz animatics just to show conceptually how something will likely move and to c…
