I put hair on my samurai model but whenever i put his helmet on in the choreography the hair goes through the helmet. Is there any way I could prevent this from happening. I want it to flatten under the helmet. Thanks, MasterFunk

Just started learning AM two weeks ago. Am modeling this metal object as an excercise. It has complex surfaces with smooth and sharp edges (no porcelan.) All normals are facing out. Been tweaking this a long time but can't seem to get the creases out. Any help?

I am stumped. Take a look at this image and see if you can figure it out. I have a camera moving through a scene but suddenly a few frames in I suddenly get this... I have checked all the lights, all the cameras and cannot see what is causing it. I am using two volumetric klieg lights, one shining directly down and the other through the doorway. Even when I turn the one pointing directly down off, I get the same problem. When it is on and the camera is out of the lights cone I still get the same problem. Is it just an anomaly? Or have I got a bug? Anyone with any ideas about it would be most helpful

Legions of Legos are battling for control of the galaxy. At least, that's what my son has been dreaming about in his play time. Some day this will all be animated. Photoshop created the energy beams and composited the individual shots. My daughter believes there needs to be some visible form of propulsion, even if the advanced technology that is pictured here uses invisible forces. What do you think?

I'm not sure if this is just something I'm doing wrong, so I thought I'd ask before I submitted it to Hash. I posted it here so that I could attach the sample project. I have been getting some errors when making a key frame when there's a bone that rotates on the "Z" axis. I put together a project file here that illustrates what I'm encountering. In "Action1", rotate the "redhalf" bone (it should be the only one visible) on the "Z" axis (the limits are set where it should only move that way anyway), then set a key. If you are getting what I am, the geometry will move when you set the key and it will move a little more if you hit the button to set the key agai…

During the creation of this beast, I did something that I do with other 3d programs.....I split the thing into separate projects, so each body part ( mostly) has a separate project file. Its just easier for me to work this way. However, I have come to the point where I want to start bringing these parts into the same project file, but I cannot seem to find a way to save the model out as a .mdl file from within the project----although there seems to be an option to import them from the File menu. So, if someone could give me the Saving and Importing .mdl files for Dummies version, I will post a picture of my dragon as he exists so far. I am sure its some…

Hey Guys, It's Simon, Director and Animator for SIP's longest running 3D Production, Against The Author, The Beginning of the End. I just thought after recently returning to browse the Animation Master Forums that I should stop in and post a little preview on how things are going with ATA. Well, the movie was suppose to be released Winter 2006, and, a few weeks before release, we had a system crash and lost most of our work. Yet, after re-installation of Animation Master and all other needed programs, SIP is well underway in producing Against The Author again, with the new release date set for later this year. The movie itself is a 3D Animated Action/Comedy, exp…

Hi, I just wanted to drop a quick note about a short film production I'm currently working on with a buddy (I'm waiting on a render). The film is called "Lost Hallway". I'm handling CG and compositing for it. It's a very green-screen heavy job with a very tight deadline. I'm using Animation Master 15 for the CGI and Eyeon Vision for keying and compositing. The pipeline is Sony HD video camera at 60i to Avid, then export of each shot to individual TIFF files, which are then scaled down by Vision to make rotoscope images for loading into AM15. Modeling and rendering is done in AM, and animated to match the actresses (we used green screen tracking markers to get re…

Well I first started out with AM back in '99 and dropped it for a new hobby (Astronomy) in 2002. Now I'm back and have just moved from v9.5 to v11 (wow - what a difference) and am working on a short of a very short story written by a collegue at work. Anyway, I am using Alan Desroches (Spelling??) models from his Archive CD's so I do not claim the modelling :-) The link provides access to a couple of tests - Hopping (it will be a hopscotch thing when completed) and a walk cycle and I would love some feedback (I am very much the novice so don't hold back - I need to learn) http://users.bigpond.com/higginsdj/my_3d.htm Cheers

Hey guys, well it's been a while since I put myself through a speed test. Since I have this new character to mess around with, I thought I'd put something together. I literally put this together in 20.min. I used a run cycle that I previously made, put a path in, then animated the dive in the cho. window. Don't know if there is anything more I will do to it, even though I know there's all sorts of stuff to adjust..... Meet Jedi Dex. He is the second character in my Star Wars Fan Film. The first character is the AT-AT. I recreated the body from a Jedi model that was originally downloaded from Sci-Fi 3D, then converted to an Anim8or file. The face and head come from the Dex A:M model. There are still a lot of things that need to be done to Jedi Dex, like fixing a lot of bumps, creases and proportions, texturing and rigging him. The colors you currently see were used to differentiate a lot of the different groups in the model. I did play around with texturing his vest though. C&C always welcome... WINDBLOWN: This is an old animation (to me)...done in V11.0 about 1 year ago. The vortex can be seen in her hair... I think I was going to try a more subtle effect but got sidetracked and never did it. This shows hair being affected by a fan tho--- as I said in the other Forum, use 'vortex' on the fan setting...I think I remember the others don't work...maybe by now they do... windblown2.mov

My TV production class is creating an animated short this year for a statewide film contest (FAME for all you Floridians). I figured that I would start this thread to get some useful critiques. The entire short will take place on a small pond where several frogs are going to sing an acapella version of "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot." I have finished the Frog characters- This is where I've run into my first dilemma. I absolutly LOVE the way the Darktree shader works on this model- It's perfect. But I applied the material at my house on my Windows machine. My school is running A:M off a MacG5. How would I go about ether burning the material on as a texture…

The first time I really went to town for an animation in AM- and I mean REALLy went at it- channel editing and everything, I remember a moment when my wife walked past me, took a look at what I was doing and sneered. I mean she really audibly sneered too. You know: "Tsh..." I didn't understand what could have caused her reaction- but she thought that what I was doing looked so *ugly* that she couldn't understand how anything interesting or even amusing could come out of it... So now, sometimes I sit back, load up ALL the channels to a character in a scene and sort of look at them... they really are sort of beautiful to me; hard to believe I'm responsible for a…

Well, I am hard at work on the next segment of my 'Bella Bear' Saga which involves the alien character. So I thought I would show him to you. He (it?) was originally modeled ages ago, but I have only just rigged and textured him - might have OD'ed on the spots... I thought I would try a bit of GI and Ambient Occlusion on him but it still looks a bit flat - not to good at that sort of stuff (yet). Anyway here he is, comments welcome and expected

As the title says, this is the linkage used by steam locomotives to allow them to move forward or in reverse. The idea of splining the convoluted shapes and transitions intimidated me so much that I kept putting off starting them for months. But I finally bit the bullet and I think they can stand up to an arm's length inspection. The quasi rectangular frame (which is about 6 ft. long) has a close approximation of the final cast iron texture for all the parts but the Playdough colours on the other parts are just to ease inspection.

What is the best way to approach the decaling of a coiled rope? Up to this point I have only needed to decal rope a couple of time and then only one length at a time. Now that I am modeling the Spanish Galleon: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=32733&hl= , I have a ton of rope to decal. I used to take the rope model, create a pose, and then straighten the rope in the pose to apply the cylindrical rope decal. This works great for one or two pieces of rope, but now I have so many pieces and coiled rope to boot. I wonder if you could decal a staright piece of rope first and then coil it? Maybe in an action or something?

Hi all, it's been a long time since I posted. Real life medical problems kept me away, not mine but family. I just got another year of Animation Master. To refresh my spline modeling I'm working (WIP) on this simple Mace type weapon. Normal map details will be done in 3DCoat. This year, I will work on learning the nuts and bolts of animation. I got Jeff Lew videos ( his older ones when he used Animation Master and Working through Barry Zundels videos as I buy them) It was good to see the the King's Throne I modeled in some of Nancy's draft videos from the Scarecrow of Oz... The rope to the mace's handle was added in another program.

Hi all, Thought I'd share my first public animation with a purpose! This is a short opener for a conference I'm helping with next week. LegoDude walks across the campus and enters the arts building (20 seconds; top frame is towards the end of that), then he enters the auditorium and walks down the aisle (a walk cycle down auditorium steps was fun!), climbs up onto the stage, then waves each arm to open each side of curtains (second image). After the curtains are open and the opening slide is onscreen behind him, LegoDude takes a bow (three different cameras capture this moment) -- last image. Thanks for the help of all those who worked with me on the walk cyc…

Hi - It been awhile since I had him completed, but I finally decided to post my first attempt at 3D animation. I have never had any experience in 3D animation before I got the A:M 11. I started in April of this year going through the tutorial and got through it in a few weeks - THANKS to everyone in the forum for answering my millions of questions I posted. So then I decided to just jump into it and try to create a character. He was done after of few weeks of insane struggling. I Didn't want to post him, but figured why not - everyone seems supportive here. Eric LoCascio

So, I had this idea - it may crash and burn... but here it goes. I need to learn how to model and rig a mouth - and learn it well. I think I'm not the only one. I've been wowed by Victor's mouth rig, and David Simmons "Bertram's Face Rig". Trouble is there are no tuts out there to explain them. David has posted his files and some explanation but for a n00b like me - it's not enough - and I'm still not sure how to well design the MOUTH first (modeling wise) to get rigged well. So I figured I'd make kind of a generic 'mask' face. I'd post it here - we can all iterate the model until we feel it's well done enough. Then I'll start trying to implement one of these boned …
