Well, I am hard at work on the next segment of my 'Bella Bear' Saga which involves the alien character. So I thought I would show him to you. He (it?) was originally modeled ages ago, but I have only just rigged and textured him - might have OD'ed on the spots... I thought I would try a bit of GI and Ambient Occlusion on him but it still looks a bit flat - not to good at that sort of stuff (yet). Anyway here he is, comments welcome and expected

Meet Jedi Dex. He is the second character in my Star Wars Fan Film. The first character is the AT-AT. I recreated the body from a Jedi model that was originally downloaded from Sci-Fi 3D, then converted to an Anim8or file. The face and head come from the Dex A:M model. There are still a lot of things that need to be done to Jedi Dex, like fixing a lot of bumps, creases and proportions, texturing and rigging him. The colors you currently see were used to differentiate a lot of the different groups in the model. I did play around with texturing his vest though. C&C always welcome... Hey peeps, been working on this animation the last couple days. Just something for my demo reel. I haven't animated the second character yet, but he's going to be looking at a paper or something. Can you guess what's going to happen next? Yeah, he's gonna wipe it on the poor guy, but in a very discreet manner. Anyway, comments welcome! Enjoy! sneeze_low.mov

Four legged critters are very hard to rig, even harder to animate. I've always been a fan of The Last Unicorn so I decided to model and rig The Red Bull. Here are my results thus far.....

Hello all, who read this, who bothered to read this, and this, ... I was working on biology and was reading about 'self-sackers'(don't know how to spells) who will stay home with there mom to help raise the off-spring. So right now I'm working on the head, I'll try to put some shots below, but for my hair, only on the top does it show, the rest of the hair is going down, I've provided the .prj file for those to look at and help not to use(yes, that's disclamer). I'm hoping to make this a movie some time, currently saving up for the a:m upgrade and a dual processer(stil dnt knw hw 2 spl). Thanks, to those who post, and post, and post, ... Mohammad sc…

I'm so excited! - I know this is not much by many standards, but the clip below features a model completely created and rigged by me and is my best work so far in A:M. Using Mike Caputo's rigging tutorial from the A.R.M., I managed to accomplish a simple but working animateable rig. Alas, the links to these tutorials are currently dead, but hopefully will be up again soon. If anyone has info on his "FK to IK" arm tutorial, please forward. I've got it working pretty well, but I believe I'm missing a step when constraining the "IK Bicep to Elbow". I am learning simCloth after purchasing the 2005 Siggraph DVD from Hash, Inc. Mark Weller's tutorial is very informati…

Hey guys. This model is very reminiscent of Thom and the ball-with-legs model used in so many boot camps in A:M. I know he's not much, but even the smallest step is good if it's in the right direction. Please feel free to critique in any way. I have attached one of him in standard pose, and one in a more actiony pose, and one of the purely mechanical bone rig (no CP weights, fan bones, or smartskins.) I am contemplating replacing it with the 2001 rig, for the simple reason of the hips null target. Thanks for reading! Peace. J Man bones.bmp pose.bmp skin.bmp

I'm using KenH's Posh car model in my project, and this is the first time I actually create a pose slider that's worth anything With a pose slider I can turn the steering wheel and the front wheels at the same time - How cool is that I know it's probably no big deal to most of you, but it's my first time, so it's like this major revelation to me Steering_Test.mov

I have a model of a swing that I've already done some rigging and poses with which is much too large for the other elements in my choreography. I know I can just scale it in every choreography to match, but I'd like to know if there is a way to rescale it in the modeling window so that the bones (and their smartskinning and poses) still match up with their respective cps. -Chris

It appears that when an object is put into the choreography window, the size of the bounding box and bone have little relationship to the size of the object. Frequently, an object like a house has a box approximately the size of the object. But, on the other hand, a very small object gets a bounding box that would hold Cinncinnati. Case in point: the bridge segment. The bounding box is nearly 300% bigger that the whole project. To put the cursor on the tip of the bone to rotate, I'm zoomed out so far, I can no longer see the object, let alone adjust its position. [ the red dot ids the bridge segment] I could zoom in so it's easily visible, then enter number values to…

Here's something I've been working on for quite awhile, in my downtime. Still left to do is texturing (the hard, almost-black rubber and plastic of the mask) I have to finish the "eyes" (right now they're just flat panels with the pics decaled, which is pretty close to the final product, except the eye pics are going to be on torn pieces of paper instead of flat patches). I'll need to tweak the refractive properties of the glass in the eyepieces. Also, the lights, which are just kinda thrown inside the mask for these renders, will become permanent parts of the model. There will be a volumetric "lamp" inside the mask which will backlight the translucen…

I had modeled a simple tower to test out some tiling textures I made on photoshop. I started playing around with it, duplicating it, scaling it, and sticking them on, and I wound up with a really cool looking castle design. I decided to work it into a poster for my daughter's birthday. (I used to have a sound clip of her saying, "I'm the princess, in the tall, tall tower", hence the title and inspiration). The castle model is only a proxy right now. I'm going to replace it piece by piece with a more detailed model. The lighting and the background are final, for now. The lighting may get tweaked as I go along, and I may repaint the clouds in the BG, I'm not sure. …

I've got a new Theodore N' Fink script in the works and I figured it was time to revamp the characters from a short I did back in 2004. If I can pull it off there will be a childrens series on the way! My dream would be to make a living with AM doing such a series. Here is the link to the old clip. http://migrate.hash.com/amfilms/search/entry.php?entry=1096 At any rate. The old rig had lots of issues and so i've been able to redesign him incorporating all the new things i've learned since 2004! I'm still trying to decide if I like the more realish look as compared to the older more cartoonish look. Also the new one takes 13 seconds to render as opposed to 6 on …

How does one animate the effect of fog rolling in from the camera's settings in the choreography. A:M seems to only want to give me fog from the render settings, which as far as I understand can't be animated. I would like to get the "before" and "after" effect as seen from these two images. Thanks for your help!

A magazine I read is running a short film contest on Youtube - and so naturally I entered an animation (all the others are live action). Here's the problem. It seems that at least one other contestant is continually giving my animation 1 star to lower its rating. I would really appreciate anyone who could go to Youtube and give me a good star rating (the more the better) to counteract this. Here's the link to my video. Thanks to all.

I've added some new renders to my A:M Stills gallery of astronomical art that I first announced in this thread nearly a year ago. Having found some improved textures, I've finally been able to finish modeling the Earth's moon and the seven major moons of Saturn. The Saturn moon maps come from Steve Albers' planetary map site. Titan was rendered with PlanetGlow, but it doesn't look exactly right. You shouldn't be able to see the horizon at all, but I can't think of any other solution that would work, except for vibrating the model really fast in multipass, but I'd rather not do that. I used a displacement map (16 bpc EXR file) to create the equatorial ri…

After a long and bad time, of no job, no money and almost no perspective, i finaly have a new client, who confronted me with an quite unusual task. This guy is doing "bouncy castles" and he needs someone who designs this stuff and is doing the layouts for the final cutting forms, which are used to assemble that stuff in the end. My first job for him was to design some "cosmetics" for an large construction, called "Multi Tower". Its a constuction where kids can play, climb and do some trampolin jumping. When they finished that thing, they found, that it looks like everything else, but not like something to play with. Since the cost of this baby is somewhere around 70 000…

I'm trying to decal a movie or image sequence onto a laptop screen and it's just misbehaving like crazy. I'm on v13q. I've done this before and though it took some trial and error I did get it to work. But that was a few years ago. I've tried a QT movie and I couldn't get it off the first frame. I'm trying a sequence of .tga files but I got an error message, though it seems to be behaving otherwise. Any help, or anyone pointing me to a help file or thread would be much appreciated! Gerry

Hey, everybody...as my time draws short (1 1/2 weeks) I've been trying to finish all of the things I've wanted to get done. Hi! I have a question. I want to use several actions in one choreo on one model. I have got two pathes. One for the character to walk into the scene, and one to walk out. I although have got a walkcycle with stridelength... Inbetween there are other actions to keep the real animation in. The walk in and the animation itself worked nicely. Now I want to let the character walk out of the scene... I gave the character a constraint to the path and now I want to make the walkcycle action active. But the action isnt available... It is there, I can click on the part where it should be and see the selection-frame, but I cant see the red bar which indicates …

Will this is my first (somewhat) finished project. I teach 4th grade, and each year every class does a short, three minute, video about Christmas from a different country. Many of the teachers just tape something quickly to be done with it. I always turn it into a production, and produce a more edited product. So with that, this year I created a "Bug" to introduce our production. We always call the move from my room: "112 production".....because my room number is 112. So this 30 second video is about 60 hours: modeling, rigging, animation, rendering, and editing the final. It may not seem like much, but I learned a lot from doing this. Any feedback woul…

Hi, I'm a returning A:M newbie who is finally learning this program using version 8.5. I know... I am creating an animation of a levitated deck of cards, and I want them to move from the deck to a magician's close-up table. Unfortunately, they seem to move on their own. I am using simple translation for movement. I clicked the "Make Keyframe" key at zero frames: I typed 30 (1 sec) in the frames window, moved the top card, and clicked "Make KeyFrame" I want this particular position to hold for 30 frames before moving to its final position, so I typed 60 into the frames window and clicked "Make KeyFrame" The card's final positi…

Had I known there would be so many great entries, I'd have used some more elaborate plans, but then I probably wouldn't have had time to finish.
