hello everyone, i can't believe how simple it is to animate the face with a setup like the one jason osipa sets up in "stop staring". i know this isn't pixar quality, but it is definitely the my best attempt so far at lip synch and this is only the second pass. i haven't touched anything but the lips and jaw, still need to rig the rest of the face....got a bit tired of rigging and wanted to play. anyway here it is (628Kb Sorenson3 Quicktime): LipSynch WIP please.....all critiques are welcome! thanks, dieter

I have been working on one of my alternate funny endings for my Cluedo parody project. This ending shows butler/undercover inspector/narrator (Earle Grey/Fred Herring) cleaning the windows. He concludes, inviting the player to come back again sometime, then turns to rinse the window - only to find that somebody just opened the window! I really wanted to do this one, so I experimented with particle systems. The first experiment was with Blobbies. I wasn't happy with it. For a start, it took far too long to render - and besides the water looked more like gello. The second experiment was with Streaks, which I have used. I am pleased with it. I achived th…

Hey guys. This model is very reminiscent of Thom and the ball-with-legs model used in so many boot camps in A:M. I know he's not much, but even the smallest step is good if it's in the right direction. Please feel free to critique in any way. I have attached one of him in standard pose, and one in a more actiony pose, and one of the purely mechanical bone rig (no CP weights, fan bones, or smartskins.) I am contemplating replacing it with the 2001 rig, for the simple reason of the hips null target. Thanks for reading! Peace. J Man bones.bmp pose.bmp skin.bmp

Hi all, I remember a while ago some people mentioned a simplified figure drawing book (for people like me who can't draw detailed figures yet). I visited the website once and can't remember it now. It shows how to draw "fancy" stick figures for storyboarding purposes. Does anyone remember it? I think you buy the book direct from somewhere in northern CA if that helps. Thanks

Hi folks, here is a quick render of the cow model available for download... hosted by Ken Heslip. The post is in the main AM forum. The cow is constrained and ready to go with a walk cycle and a set up in a choreography. I used the set up machine 1 to rig it and added intermediates and fans and smartskin etc. Im not the best rigger around but if any of you Rig masters has the time to improve on it or re-rig it, I would love to see the results if you re-post the improved and updated model for folks to download again. Cheers AndyG

Hey folks, I'm a medical student at Case Western and after suffering through a neuroanatomy course at the beginning of this school year a programmer classmate and I decided to change the way the course was taught. For those of you lucky enough to have avoided this subject throughout your lives, a med school neuroanatomy course focuses on the spinal cord and brain locations of various groups of nerves that are functionally related. One of the big challenges is learning the clinical consequences of damage to these groups and how those consequences can change depending on where in the brain/brainstem/spine the damage occurs. Right now, the way the course is taught…

Started this yesterday and finished most of the splining for the face today. Here is a quick render. The decal applied is the reference image used to model it. Rendered with AO and one light using 1 decal and the Skin shader. No SSS because it always comes out black ... I still need to finish modeling the lips and eyelids, and then create eyes that are non-decal. I don't like how the nose looks, and am having trouble finding good reference on how it looks from the side : \ I am going to try to make this the full thing with hair and what not so bear with Comments and Crits welcome on the splinage ... Working on a treasure chest right now. So far, I have extruded 2 shapes to make up the lid and the body of the chest. I chose to do it this way since I wanted the chest to have some depth to it, and not a knife edge on the walls that make up the lid and body. However, now I'm left with the problem of closing the ends off. What would be the best way to go about doing this? I know I can probably come up with something that will work, but not sure it will look "nice". Is there an existing "best practice" for capping surfaces like this?

Have a look.... www.hennesproductions.com Cheers, William

i was inspired by bioshock to try and figure out how they make blood look so real. After a long time fumbling around with photoshop, to get a good looking liquid surface tension normal map, i think i got a fairly good result. The key though that I found out was blood doesn't have a white or red specular highlight, it's blue. Anyways, here's the results of my testing. BloodStain.zip BloodStain.mov

These two coins have displacement maps on them with similar settings. Both maps attempt to create details raised above the main surface. The top one with the simple bumps on it shades as expected for the light coming from above the camera's left shoulder. The more complex one, with the monkey image, has a varied result with different details seeming to be lit from different directions. Does anyone know why? DisplacementTest.zip

Although I've been reading the forum for quite a few months, this may be the first time I post. (Edite: ok, I got 4 posts, so it's not really the first time... but still, I think this is the first time I post an image) This is the main character from a 2D Chinese RPG game "Sword of Hsuan Yuan" (The Ultimate Sword) version 3 made in 1999 (meaning the original design credit is not mine at all). By turning him 3D and "real-looking", hopefully I am not violating any copyright law. I am thinking of using this picture (or an improved version) to enter the Sci-Fi image contest. Any comments or suggestions are most welcome.

Here's a quick preview of a 12-mat shoji-screened room I was playing around with over the holidays. Ok...so it's not gonna be the next Woody or Buzz...but hey, its my first A:M character and I'm kinda proud of him. Still loads of work to do (getting rid of that horrible beard and using A:M's hair system, sorting out those legs, teeth, tongue, bones...argghhh!!!!). LOTS of work!!! For any other newbies out there I highly recommend David Simmons eye tut (and I was <ahem> slightly inspired by how he did Bertrums belly!) Let me know what you think.

Well, I finally think I have a good reel version of my best stuff. I'm a little weary of the reel( but I always will be, its my nature ) As I've went through I've tried to go by these standard rules: Your reel should be no more than 3-4 minutes Mine is running a bit over, almost pushing five with the long holds for the title cards (the version here has shorter ones for a small file size to upload) I'm pondering if I should shorten the opening segment; though I feel its one of my strongest. Music and sound track is secondary. I have a full music track going though the whole demo. In my older ones it was just music on top of everything. This one I d…

I wanted something different in our band video. There was a piece in the talent show that was not G rated. I wanted to remove it and have fun with it. So, I exported a screen shot, put it in as a rotoscope, added Keekat, and did a voice over (Sound Forge 7 with pitch change). It took a little to get the render settings to work. No shadow yet, but it is not that important on the floor. Thought I would share. Attached is a wmv in a zip. chhskeekat.zip

If you're curious, read along in the thread under "Animation Master: General Discussion" (I guess) ************************* hi gang. for someone who hadn't touched A:M in a bit, I don't think I'm doing too bad. Here's some of what I've tried my hand at so far. The helmet was first, in keeping with the request for it and for hats (first of many I hope) Then there's the night goggles to go with it. I started them but have to detail it all and get the head straps just right (can you tell I've had to wear them in the desert before?) Then there's the toaster. I started making the classic Sears model, all curved and pretty and all... ...but then I realize…

The local DJ's remarked how they hated one of the renderings of their faces on their homepage, so I figured I'd try and recreate 'em in 3D... For those who know what they look like, I think Todd didn't come out all that bad, despite the fact the colors are all off. Not much I can do about that since I'm color blind . Scott is still a work in progress..

Hi all: I finally got around to compressing the final version of Soap Opera. For those who don't know, it's a five-minute slice of Mozart's Don Giovanni performed by the denizens of a bathroom. "You'll never look at Pert Plus the same way again!" This version premiered at the D.C. Shorts Festival in September 2005. (I think, technically, it was first shown at the Hash SIGGRAPH party, but I won't tell D.C. Shorts if you don't.) Its next appearance will be at the Cleveland Film Festival this March. I wrote and animated it, Jeff Lee produced the music, and we both modeled it. Special thanks to David Rogers for an exhaustive lighting critique (which I trie…

I had made a request a few days ago if someone could create a film canister for me. I wanted to create a logo for a program I write. Well, PixelPlucker created one for me: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=40098 So i have to give him credit for 90% of the modeling. I did modify a few thing on the roll and mapped a couple of decal. This is what I have right now. It is still not the finished product. I have not used Hash in the past 7 years so I need to relearn quite a few thing. A lot different than Journeyman on my amiga in 1990 !!! Pierre

Hello, Hashers. Though I've had A:M for a while, I've only recently (like, this weekend!) been able to sit down with it and actually start learning how to do stuff. This short animation is the first real "thing" I've produced. (17 secs, Quicktime, about 2.7Mb.) I'd appreciate some feedback. Thanks, Alan. PS - You might want to turn your speakers down.

It took quite awhile to build an character i would like to animate. Now he is nearly finished, waiting to be rigged and i want to show him to you, wondering what you are thinking about this little fellow. Comments of any kind (no God please) are welcome.
