I have created a new little character mainly for the purpose of practicing rigging and animating. i am going to make a music video eventually with this guy using the song Tonto, Jump On It! but i am still rigging him right now. i have used the 2001 Skeletal rig and i still have a little touching up to do for some small points that are a little out of place. but its the best i have done. i never have rigged a human before. nor made one. i need to know how to use the target things. the cubes for like the feet targets and the hip/pelvis cube mover. if i could rig these it would make my animating alot smoother and easier. so if someone could point me in t…

I'm experimenting with some deform plug-ins and this is what came out from one of them. I'm not sure this is what I had expected, but it's interesting in some strange way. Useful? Probably not ;-) And Jim. Sorry for trashing your beautiful model :-o [attachmentid=11560] M02a.mov

Hi - just wanted to thank everyone who answered my numerous questions while working on this project. I finished the lotion girl to the best she is going to be... she's not Joe Williamsen's Hunter, I've got quite a way to go until I am anywhere near there Anyway, the client wanted the "Bratz Doll" look. Here is a link to the animation on her website and a couple images below. Not real happy with the lip sync, I have some practicing to do with that as well, but the project was taking too long and the client was happy so moving on. Have a great weekend, and thanks again for all your quick forum responses - Eric Animation: http://www.discountindoortanninglotions.co…

Ok taking another little break from my c-130 aircraft model, this time Im goofing with a water splash(no splash yet though) ...oh well , something like the topic title, attached are a couple short clips of theb Eddie model from the CD falling into what is suppose to be water, the motion and timing and just about every thing else is way, way off, all I was doing on this go round was working on the sprite air bubbles, and I slaped together a simcloth water surface, with sloppy settings, a lightgel on a light, and some sloppy eddie key framing of him flopping underwater.... More later I hope... Any suggestions are welcome and noted, Michael[attachmentid=12452]…

Last night I did a final render of my project and when I played the movie I noticed that one of my characters limbs (left arm) was moved about 5 cm to the right from where it was supposed to be in every frame. Before I composed the final render I rendered it out in shaded mode to make sure everything looked okay, and all was as they should be. I ended up having to move the arm back to it's correct position in every keyframe and also the fingers went all wonky. Thusly I had to re-position all 5 fingers in about 25 keyframes (125 fixes...took a while). I saved the project, then did a render in shaded mode. All was correct. Then I rendered in "final" mode with "shadow…

A few years ago I had sketched out a design for a spacecraft and proceeded to model it in AM. I could never get the fuselage right. A few times a year I'd pull the model up and hack away on it but it just wasn't fulfilling my original vision. Sunday afternoon I had a what-the-hell moment and converted it to AM13. For whatever reason, it suddenly came together. I have a drawer full of old drawings with many a spacecraft sketch, but this one has always been my favorite; now it appears that I might finally be able to get it flying.

I haven't posted in a long while, ever since I returned to college to get my Masters (done) and Doctorate in Music Composition. Also I haven't animated in a couple years, but this summer I got the A:M subscription and decided to make a five-movement work for animation and electronic music. I thought I would post the YouTube links here so you all could check it out. I learned a lot I didn't know about A:M in the process, and actually had to rerender an entire movement after finding a better way to do something. Anyway, without further adieu, here they are: I "Purple": II "Industry": III "Red": IV "Interlude": V "Blue":

Hello- I was attempting the tutorial on Newton Physics... the one where you have 3 cylinders that are supposed to tumble on themselves. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?act=A...st&id=19636 Each cylinder is set to be a dynamic object and the ground is static. Pretty basic stuff, but I get this error message when I right click on one of the cylinders in Choreography: I am using V17a and after receiving the error message I copied the "explode.hxt" from the V16 Hxt folder into the v17 Hxy folder ,thinking that might help...(because there was no "explode.hxt" in the v17 folder). Didn't help... Has anyone had similar issues...or any sugges…

Hello fellow animators, For my short film, I'm trying to create a certain lighting effect using a directional light. I'm working with Ambient Occlusion. I tried adding a light, but it always appears as a spherical light source casting light in all directions. Instead I added the rim light that is default in any chor's PWS to my choreography, and that light is indeed directional. So cool, I thought I had it all figured out. The thing I don't understand is, the light is shining through walls. I'm trying to have the light partly obscured by a wall, but even if I aim it in the center of a wall, the light is just as strong on the other side of the wall! Is there some se…

Just found a great flight-sim game called "OVER FLANDERS FIELDS". So I've been hanging out on their Forum, flying and soaking my head in WWI lore. With A:M at my fingertips, I had to try a few planes. Here's the Fokker D.VIII. Some accounts claim this successor to the justly famed Fokker D.VII was unresponsive to the controls and under-powered due to the Oberusel rotary engine. [Fokker Triplanes shared that engine and problem] Other accounts say that if the war had lasted longer, the D.VIII would have emerged as the deadliest fighter of either side. It suffered from construction problems at first. Fokker's normally high standards had eroded, [he also contracted out a lot …

Hi Gang More Questions as always Found a post by dre4merback in July of 2006 and like to know more about it. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22912 I have checked through this thread and the vid clips are what I am looking for on my model. I have my model rigged with the 2001 rig and need her sleeves to move like the above movies, so how did you do that? What bones is the cloth attached to? I have done the cloth and deflector materials and created new bones, tested all kinds of ideas and just can't seem to get it. If I attach the material to different arm bones when you move the arm it rolls and flips but nothing like cloth, any suggestions?dre…

It needs work. This may be the hardest thing I've done to date. I downloaded the "fixed" Shaggy, but I had a lot of problems with the hands slipping and popping, probably due to pulling beyond his arm's reach. One thing I accomplished here is getting a character off a path and animating it further without disturbing the previous action. Yay! It needs a lot of work, and it's not even really finished, but here it it: The Door's Stuck 960KB Quicktime, Sorenson 3. Comments welcome!

Just a small question. I tried earlier and wondered why I couldn't upload a movie of 9 seconds I made with the animation Master. The first time, some months ago, I thought it was my computer with virussscanner and firewall. Now I tried again and I can only fill in the description, and then I come to the thumbnail page. I can push any button, nothing happens. Is it my computer or is it the protected area I'm bouncing on? Not that I worry that much, but I thought I would let you know. Thanks, MadFox.

I used one of the clips from the 10 second club for more animation...Link below. It'll take awhile to load (10 MB). Laughter (Note: To view this video you must right click and "Save target as..." Due to angelfire policy. Or you can right click, push properties, copy the full address shown in the box, and paste it into the Address bar. Now, my own critiques about the animation: I think there should have been some tilting of the teeth. Your critiques please!

It's not often I get the time to sit down and actually use A:M - certainly nowhere near as often as I would like. However, recently I managed to cobble together this piece of silliness: http://www.stuart.rogers.clara.co.uk/Mattress_sor3H_320.mov [ QuickTime6 - 5.4MB. I'm sure I ticked the 'internet fast start' box when I built this file, but it doesn't seem to be doing this, so you'll have to wait until it loads. Ho hum.] Strictly speaking it should be in the WIP section, as there's plenty more that needs to be done on it, but enough is enough - I've spent enough time on it and now want to get on with something else. For a re-make of a character picture portfolio I made years ago, which is being redone in full 3D, I am required to re-create the car that she owns. However according to her story she owns a Slimbikini Miablo VS, which would be a complete take-off of a Lambourgini Diablo. However, I decided to create a car design that would be unique, while still borrowing some of the design ideas of the Diablo. And because of my usual "Must document everything" nature, I still have every single render I created for this vehicle, and I thought it would be something to share. First of all, the original image from the Portfolio: http://members.shaw.ca/nekosei/others/Picture3…

I've been tasked with creating several rooms. Here's my first room using AO. Before this project, I've never really used anything but normal lights (I've never used radiosity or AO before). One thing I notice is how grainy the whole thing looks, despite using some okay settings for sampling and passes. Also, it's very bright at the top, which sort of blows out the ceiling area and ceiling fan. I wasn't expecting that. I'm unsure how to make the lighting more even. Any thoughts on how to improve are welcome. Please keep in mind I'm brand-new to AO when you make suggestions. Settings: AO: on No radiosity. No real lights in the scene. ambiance intensi…

This is an entry for the most recent Animation Showdown at digitalrendering.com. As before, all animation was done in four hours. The topic, quoted from the forum moderator: "By any means necessary" became the basis for my joke. In this case, I wanted to test a new light rig, so I also (after the deadline) added an island, some not very convincing water, and a palm tree which managed to cast shadows in precisely the wrong place. The animation is unchanged, though. Tons of work would need to be done to make this worth watching, but it's in Showcase because, well, I'm not going to work on it anymore. Et voila: http://www.hash.com/users/zac…

I posted my dice character earlier. I now have a walk cycle for him. I tried constructing it three different ways. First, I tried starting with the down positions, then the contact positions. My final try was starting with the hip up and down motion and then going back to the beginning and, starting with the contact positions, went straight ahead. I liked this one the best. None of them were hard to put together, but I attribute that to A:M's great tools rather than my skill. I am posting my last effort. All comments and crits (of the work, not my religious or political beliefs) welcome! Scott Dice_Walk.mov

Those of you who are familiar with my work know I'm not a render monkey--I love beautiful images as much as anybody, but I'm too impatient to wait for them (or to learn enough about lighting to make them). However, my recent Olympic vodcast got such a good response I decided to re-render the last shot, where Shaggy falls into an iced-over swimming pool. I used Image-Based Lighting for the general outdoor look, and decided to try soft reflections on the ice and see if it would look any good. Hot DAMN! This is with only 10% sampling on the soft reflections, and 9-pass multipass. It really looks like ice, doesn't it? (Of course, at eighteen minutes per fram…
