I got tired of getting bogged down in modeling and texturing to get to the animating part, so I made this super simple character and took a whack at it. Here's what I came up with in one run through. It definitely needs refining. Any help with the timing and just communcation aspects especially would be greatly appreciate. hungry fridge wip. -Nathan

After seeing this photo of the Huntsville Alabama Death Chamber Old Sparky I had to model it. From looking at the photo I got make the building smaller, texture the electric chair, work on the lighting a little bit, and fix that door knob one part showing up green where it should be a brass material. I'm thinking about add some character but haven't made up my mine yet on that.

I'm working on the principle that if you move points around enough, eventually you luck into something that looks like what you are trying to model. I do have the rest of her, but the body looks pretty bad. Now I need to figure out how to decal her. sept0.tga

Back at the last mascot contest I started to work on a couple of characters that I intended to turn into a very short short. I did a number of animated tests before deciding to scrap one of the characters and start again. As I was sorting through some folders today I came across some of these old tests and I realised that this stuff might never see the light of day again so I decided to post a sample here incase anyone is interested. and some pre-race warmup:

Well, you read it right..I'm trying to model a face...I'm using the "Mr.Incredible" references because I want to start w/ a simple nose...and I don't want to have to make references myself for a face (too lazy) I still have to shift some CP's to get rid of some creases that are easy to wash away....:

When I was working on the "Bus Stop" set, for the forum project, there was a few people that wanted multiple sets. I had a few ideas, but there was not enough time with the deadline Robert set for the project. This was something I've been wanting to do for awhile, but never got around to it. There's still alot to do, but I figured I would post my progress on it.

anyone who has seen my work knows I like the bugeyes I use. What I am asking is to borrow some of you folks talents Would someone design me some killer bugeyes that look really good and I can alter in color to match the character I am making? in other words Some of you are true geniuses when modeling and I am not. I am just asking for some killer bugeyes like I use. But much better. lol just the eyes. and eyelids. Thanks! Gene P.S. this is gonna be interesting if anyone does it.

Not much done on this scene yet, but I thought I'd post it so far. Batman's actually not going to be in the final, but I needed SOMETHING other than just the buildings for now. I have big plans for this...hopefully they'll develop quickly

I'm in the process of assembling models for my first solo music video. At the start of the song I need a barmaid and decided to use "Gala" from the Extra's DVD. The model has extensive attention to detail, but when I render from the backside there is a "strip" anomaly in the decal somehow. Perhaps it was intended that way, but to me it is quite distracting. I could use another model. I could replace the decals on the dress. There are a number of workarounds I could employ, but then I would not know what was happening, or why it was happening, and as always, the goal is to understand more completely this wonderful software. I know there are a number of "get-to-th…

I was getting to make a show using A:M and I looked at the stills (to get some ideas). There was my very favourite A:M stock model created in '96 by Rich Lovato! Unfortunately, it is not available in the new A:M versions and I realy need to have a coppy from an old A:M user, so I posted some images with this "COOL GUY". Please, post it! I need to use this model, but please don't update him, because I use v1.11d+. And I don't have an old A:M CD, and that is why I need it (the whole model).

A simple task as picking up a telephone receiver is more than meets the eye. OK, so I have Shaggy answering a phone; I wat him to pick up the receiver with the cord attached to it. In order for the cord to follow the receiver, I made the receiver bone a child of the last cord bone so that where ever the receiver goes the rest will follow. However, when i constraint the receiver to Shaggy's hand, the rest of the cord bones do not follow Now if I make the receiver the parent bone, the problem is the cord will move as a solid part of the receiver and you wouldn't have the amiability of the cord. Would appreciate it if anyone out there has the solution to sha…

I need some help rendering out a high res 1920x1080 scene. The good news is you can have the models I created for the scene as it is for my demo reel. The bad news is depending on how fast your system is it could take 9-15 hours to render one frame. I have about 30 cores rendering 30 instances but its still going to take me 9 days or so to finish. I don't recommend you volunteer unless your system renders Roberts AM Benchtest in less than 12 minutes or so. Any one who renders me 2 frames or more will get a DVD full of AM training Videos in addition to the models in the scene. Attached is about 95% of the scene rendered @ 720x405. to give you an idea. I wante…

Hi, It's me again. I need to freeze a sprite system so a camera can move though it. Searching I found: "Set initial velocity to zero." Hmm... seems to me like in the chor you'd let the sprite system form then at some frame you'd 'set the initial velocity to zero' and maybe 'rate of emission' and 'spin' and ???? as well but this isn't working for me. Of course if I set these values in the material section... nothing happens in the chor (as one would suspect). However, sprite systems are tricky devils and I haven't played with them for many years. Is there a way to do it? And pretend I'm a complete idiot and assume I know nothing (I need where, how, wh…

Even though I use other polygon modeler to archive my assets, many of organic models is still in prj. Very few these kind of work here, I do realistic rendering mostly. Any other good looking insect? I saw a dragonfly for sale not too long ago, can't remember where.

Project : Zero (link) So, early in 2005 I started this project and never really got around to telling anyone about it (I don't think). This is going to be a thread to keep all the A:M crowd updated as this project is revealed. Once the animation part is completed (hopefully this year) I'll post to the showcase, and of course add it to my site. Let me know what you think as I cruise along. Talk to you later. [attachmentid=12950] ps. Well! The attachment options have changed as well. Hmmmm....I like (thanks Martin).

I was just noticing that it took 165 million dollars to make the recent "Polar Express" aka "Children of the Corn Go on a Train Trip" or "Zombie Express" Now just thinking ahead I feel that movie opening weekend will gross 12 million tops this opening weekend. I hope they prove me wrong. But really do you think it will do that well. I always wondered where people get there funding to make these things? Can you only imagine taking 165 million and splitting it on this website among 20 or 30 small groups. How many movies of similiar quality could be made. I mean seriously I wish we had a large animation fund where we could split it up. If only Ho…

Hello All, Oh man it has been a LONG time (over a year I think) since I'm visited here. I haven't had much time in the last few years to spend much energy/time in 3D but I'm making an effort to get back into it. Man I missed it! Anyway, I've started by trying to finish off a few projects that I left unfinished, in doing so I have run into a few issues between the way certain features work back in version 11 through 12.5 and version 14.0c which I am currently using. (Until I know I'm going to have the time and be able to stick with it I wasn't planning on upgrading to version 15 yet as there are changes in the way subscriptions work now.) OK I will post 2 ren…

Alright...I'm starting over and decided to model a jaguar..here's my problem-->I'm stuck at connecting these two holes...I tried making a five point patch as outlined but it created this HUGE crease...trust me..not even porcelain or bias values could help.. Yes, it's official... a new record... the least amount of screen time I've completed in any of my Showdown entries! Yesterday's topic was Running Catch. I ran out of time before I finished the running part. But the good news is it won't take long to download. See it at my Showdown Page. (QT Sorenson 70K) For this render I've added a background prop.

I was inspire by Xtaz's image and desription of Image Based Lighting using HDR images. My results weren't as impressive, but i don't have the patience to wait 6 hours to see how it turns out. I do like how it worked, but I added 2 lights to give the object some shadows. I didn't get shadows from the IBL alone. I don't know if that comes with more passes. Maybe someone can fill me in. Here are the images I did get. I'm showing the fully lit image and ones with IBL only and Kleigs only for comparison. I plan on doing more testing to get IBL figured out better. Any info or comments appreciated.

I'm playing with IBL and placing an object in a scene with reflection ala Stian's tutorial. First I render out the background image which I then use as a camera rotoscope. Next the ground is set to Front Projection "on" in order to receive shadows, then I import a sphere with reflectivity set to about 35%. That's when I run into problems. The sphere, although it is not set to Font Projection "on", has a transparent image of the rotoscope on it. It's supposed to have the reflection of the environment sphere on it, not the rotoscope. What am I missing here? When I remove the rotoscope from the camera, the sphere has the correct reflections, but off course the ground i…

I've been playing about with A:M for a couple of weeks and got a little too carried away. Once I'd got my head around reusable actions and lip synching, I put together a music video featuring my brother-in-law. If I can finish it in time, it may well be presented to him on a DVD for Christmas! Any tips, pointers, critiques welcomed (don't be too harsh, I'm still battling with the newcomers tutorials....) You should spot that the body is ripped from the Robber and I've had to decal all my facials on, as I'm rubbish at modelling!! I've been working on this off and on for a while, a few hours making weeks letting it sit around, and really want it to look good. It is a Temple like design loosely based on Greek/Roman style. Will be made of marble. However my materials turn out too unrealistic and I need some help. Also in its final form it will be atop a hill/mountain to and I don't know if it would look better new or ruinous. So basically any help would be nice.
