HOORAH! I'VE ALMOST FINISHED MY FIRST EVER CHARACTER CREATED COMPLETELY BY ME! Surprising considering how long I've been modeling, eh? I never really tried to model any characters because I was scared. Now I am not! Tell me what you think, but try not to ruin my good mood too badly. He's a bank robber for a short my friend wanted me to make. NOTE: It's kind of hard to see the bump map on his hood, (that has the lines like in a ski mask) but they're there and will be visible in close-ups (i hope).

Well, this thread brings together a lot of other stuff I've posted on these boards, so bear with me. I'm still working on the full version of my "bathroom" scene, which is complicated enough that it requires storyboarding. Since the characters and set are already built, why not do the storyboards in 3D? Well, it turns out there are a lot of good reasons why not, but suffice it to say, 3D storyboarding is only worth doing for judging your characters' relative positioning, along with the corresponding camerawork. As soon as you start moving arms and heads, you're gonna wish you'd just picked up a pencil. On the plus side, 3d storyboards sure look a lot pretti…

I did a test today that turned-out quite nicely with BIG help from our friend, Newton Dynamics... (attached 4mb QT) Basically, I made a 'beer-bong' (a funnel on top and a long tube) and set about 50 lathed 'Platelets' above it, set the gravity to -5%... and simulated! Afterwards, I wanted the animation to be slower and smoother- so I 'group-grabbed' all the simulated keyframes from the 50 Platelets and spread them out... I used a SYMBIONT material called 'Plush' to texture the platelet and the vein. The client wanted this to be a 'medical-meets-anime' look, so I toon-rendered and regular rendered and combined the 2 in After Effects. For a quick half-day test, n…

This is my entry WIP. mov 2 (still blocking) is the reflection that I want to import as Image Sequence into A:M and project it on the mirror surface. I have never done it before. How does it work? I import the image sequence in the Image folder (which it told me was too large ~ 380 frames) and then what? Adorable_lowres.mov Adorable_2.mov

Well, since I'm not on the mailing list (Dragon does happy dance over new forum! Yeah!), I thought I'd go ahead and post this here, even though it's been around. 'Yote Tail Since I've got several render versions up, I've linked to the html page so you can choose which would play best on your system. Comments and critics are always welcomed.

Hello kiddies. I've been a little busy of late cranckin' out covers for children's textbooks. This is my latest piece. The theme is "underwater fun". And I think that the greatest challenge was not making it look like "Finding Nemo". Not that it would be so easy to do anyway, but I think ya'll know what I'm talking about. Anyway, I had a lot of fun with this one, so I wanted to share. Please, let me know what you think.

This is an island i am creating for a flyover on an animation so it won't need much by way of detail. I haven't added the palm tree's yet, but that is next. For the rest of the animation i will have detailed scenes. I'm up for some feedback.

Back in 2004 I got an "Employee of the Month " award which took the form of a small gargoyle sculpture. I thought it would be a fun A:M modeling exercise so i began splining it out but hit a few road blocks and put it aside. The plan was that the recipient would get to have it on their desk for a month and then the next month's awardee would take it over but by the time I got laid off six months later no one else had done anything anyone wanted to talk about so I still have the trophy. Now I have some time, I think I'll try to finish it and see if I can rig him, possibly without straightening him into a T-pose.

Hi guys - A few yrs ago me and a team was working on a video game for our portfolio.. The game is a first person shooter which did not get of the ground due to some problems with export between different programs amoung other things. But we were able to get some of the models into the engine. I was responsible for the environment and the villans (bad guys) also for texturing the entire game..... I was going through my old stuff and I found some of the old games mods that I modeled in A:M back in 2001.....I thought I would share them with you..... this shot is a basic model render of the mods, the very first concept of the mods.. From paper to 3D...

Occasionally when I'm animating the splines on my model will stop smoothly interpolating thru their CPs. Suppose several patches are twisted then straightened out. The CPs move to their correct places but the splines going thru them don't' quite adjust right it's as if the angles of intersection has frozen. like this. I've marked the corresponding angles with red green and blue arcs. So far, saving and reloading is the only sure remedy. Anyone seen this and know what causes it?

I'm working on my first model of a human figure, that kind of thing. But I've run across a problem. Could anyone help me? Here's the problem: when I copy flip attatch the half of my face that I've got, it comes out with missing splines, patches, and cp's that make it look normal. Here are some pictures. Maybe you could help me based on those? CAPTION: half of face. 2nd Caption below: After copy flip attatch.

Here is the project file for my Shaggy and Scooby. I couldn't include the chor because of the size of the file. Shaggy is rigged, but there is a problem with the contraints on one of the right hand fingers. No smartskin. SHaggy's hair isn't finished. There's a few basic bones in Scooby for the tail and ears. If anyone uses these just let me know what you used them for and post it here so we can all see it . These models were built quickly for the contest, so they are probably no good for animation. If someone does get a decent rig and animation with these guys let us know that too. I also did a quick toon render of them in the model window. I didn't …

So figured I'd add to my plethora of projects, my first attempt at modeling a car! Now I have horrible car sense to begin with and know next to nothing about cars. Despite that however, there is one car in particular that is definitely the coolest car ever. At least in my puny sense of car stuffs. So, I give you the beginnings of my model, the car of the future...can you guess what it is?

Hello ! I have found a new idea to get me going. I got my inspiration from the halls at my highschool. Here is where I am at now: 5pass 27min Im experimenting with lighting right now. The modeling is pretty much done as well. For texturing and shading I plan to use a lot of decals and one or two procedural shaders. I want the floor to have a slight bump to it and it to be reflective and very specular. The doors are wood, and the lockers peeling painted metal. The other walls are going to be a dry wall esq texture. Photoman

I've been invited to give an advanced tech talk on developing an edi system for healthcare claims in June. It has to be done as a power point presentation, but me being me I don't want to do just an hours worth of slides, so I plan on doing several slides interspersed with the tech speak with some animated slide s. One of them is an illustration of the system as whole as a rube goldberg like machine. This is a test I just threw together of the first piece, which will be an inlet belching envelopes onto a conveyor belt. test.mp4

The file attached here shows the start and ending frames of a two-second clip of my alter-ego, Danbuster Cameronean Leadboot. He is posing for the camera in his own fun-loving crazy little way. It was intended for my avatar, though only a few frames now exist because of the limit. The wild blond hair is a hair emitter. I had to do it like that, because it was too difficult to accomplish fuzzy hair that sticks straight up using a mesh (as I have with my other models). The fur on the body was accomplished by using a fairly rough and low-scale bump map. The hair is the problem. In preview mode, it renders fully shaded. Here, in the rendered file, the first fr…

Being a huge Doctor Who Fan I thought I would need my own TARDIS. I have been watching the latest series and just got back in to how cool Doctor Who was. This TARDIS is to scale based on plans I found on the internet somewhere. Some guys actually build real versions. The doors open and close and as soon as I finish up a couple of clean ups on the model, I will post it up here fo anyone that wants to use it. Image: You can download a larger version of the rendering below.

I finished this character up last night. He's not rigged yet but for those interested he's using the new hair particle system. There are no decals here, only material combinations. He weighs in at around 1200 patches. He rendered in about 2 and a half minutes, resolution 640x400, multi-pass x 16. Okay Martin...there you go...like I promised. Comments are welcomed and encouraged. I appreciate any feed-back I can get. (Especially around the shoulder area.)

Hi guys, Iv been away recently, busy with university work. I began working with a couple of third year students, helping with their final year films. Its a two minute short set in medievil times - The plague is rife, Death is visiting everyone in the village and the King is next on his list! Unfortunatly, Its not being produced in AM. If it were up to me it would, since this other package is a pain in the rear end most of the time! When It's my turn, I hope to be able to make my film in AM. But - I managed to model the body collector in my favourite proggy though. I exported it as .x thanks to the great obsidion games plugin. Because it was to end up as polys, …

Hey guys, following my tests with displacment for folds in clothing, I discovered that no matter how I altered my settings I can not avoid getting these little black dots where the displament map is on the model. I am thinking that the dots are pixels that are brighter then the surrounding pixels in the gradient of the blur that I used on the map and the toon renderer is pickign it up as an edge. is that possible? or is it a compression thing? I've tried both png(profile stripped after ps save) and tga files. any help or suggestions would be appreciated here is an image sowing the problem.

It's late and I'm tired so I'll get to the point. I'm trying to make this bug character that has an expressive face yet is still recognizable as a ground beetle. I made the face lighter so the facial features, and especially the mouth, were visible. I got the idea from studying A Bug's Life. Overall, I'm hapy with the results, but I would love some suggestions on how to make the face more expressive. I think I should make the mouth bigger, but should it have eyelids that blink and eyebrows? Any other comments or suggestions would be great. Here is the link: bug test
