Ok, let me get this straight. We are supposed to think in three dimensions, learn to model, apply hair, texture, decal, bone, rig, animate, operate a camera, set up lighting, learn the physics of photon mapping. Then every year a new version comes out with features we have to figure out all over again. It sounds like fun. Anyway here is my latest attempt at making a realistic face.

http://greenwith.envy.nu/ My first WIP post. This is a stylized globe, using booleans to 'cut' the land masses into a sphereical shape. I am rendering a :20 rotation as a video element, it is taking 17 minutes per frame... A:M's booleans are quite powerful though...

As I said above: this is old news, hovewer I feel that some critiwue would be helpful (even negative critique) I have been very busy lately, so my animation which should include those two characters is in (God knows for how long) hiatus. So, I have decided to share those two with the community under condition that they would be not used for commercial purposes and that my name should be mentioned where ever they appear (more in the readme file). I will sent them as soon as I get confirmation that it is ok to post the textures (road and grass - which I have downloaded form David Gurrea's site (http://www.davegh.com/blade/davegh.htm). If that is not possibl…

Hey guys, I have entered Revver's next film contest, this one has the April fools theme. I started out to do a basic ball movement test, but as soon as the contest was announced I changed my whole outlook on the animation. Let me know what you guys think, thanks! Maybe I can get first this time around? April Fools - Flash April Fools - Quicktime

here's a little animation I put up on AWfilms for kicks. It's the first project I've done with AW. I'm a 3D guy for some years now, but mainly polys. I'm really starting to like working with the splines. I know this isn't all that great, but I wanted to jump in and get my feet wet. Thought I'd see what advice or critique I could get from you guys. Thanks, CrawdaddyMovie

I just posted this rough little clip from my next film. The sets are CG - the puppets are stop-motion and keyed in. This is more akin to stop-motion but you might like some of the CG work too (though very amateurish). Take a look: http://www.justincurfman.com/platelets.htm Love to hear form you. Thanks, Justin

I'm working on an outdoor scene that has direct sunlight and some shaded areas. Sprites are flowing from the lighted area into the shaded area, yet the sprites brightness does not diminish as it goes from sunlight to shade? The sprite particle is basically a white blob that stays bright no matter what the lighting conditions are. Can this be changed in the sprites properties? I want the sprites surface to be darker as it moves into the shaded area of the scene.

I just purchased V16. In the forums there were several accounts about how it is significantly faster, and I have to admit I was a bit skeptical that it would be faster, even on something simple and straightforward. But it turns out, it is. I rendered one frame of a project I am working on using the Final preset in the 1080 HD format on a snazzy machine with an Intel i7 quad core 3.4GHz processor. I rendered on 15.0j+, 16.0a 32-bit and 16.0a 64-bit. Rendering a single frame does not do any overt parallel processing, but with V16 you can use NetRender to do 2 different frames at once, so in a real project you would likely get something like double the improvement…

What harm could it do.. So here is a very revealing shot of some of my spline problems.. Any ideas? I'll make it a link so as not to give to much away. Fellow AMers: I’m building a model of a WWII fighter plane and I’ve run into a decaling challenge that I didn’t foresee with the canopy. The plan was to use a simple spline geometry for the canopy shape, apply a glass material to the shape and then add a detailed decal to represent the canopy support structure (frame) on top of that. It appears that the frame structure decal is adopting the transparency of the underlining glass material, which makes the frame almost completely transparent. I can see that this would be a good thing in most cases, i.e. making sure that the decal has the correct surface properties, but this there a way to turn this off for the tr…

Hey guys taking a break from modeling that car i got into a job of doing music karaoke videos. using blue screens and AM to model the backgrounds is new and kind of a trial and error thing but its working out ok so far. all scenes were rendered in full 1080p HD which roughly took an hour with AO 16 passes i then brought images into photoshop and cut out the windows for color green screen for additional footage. then proceeded to add decorations to the room in order to liven it up a bit in my video program i added in backdrops and other goodies the TV with video in it was particularly hard for it needed its own rendering. i stilled need to add c…

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this - I tried the new users area but no response. I'm trying to mimic Coopers tutorial. I started with the nose and rotoscopes as he did. I get the general concept but I'm really struggling with a few parts around the nostril. I realize some of this is just learn by trial and error but I could really use some suggestions, I've hit a brick wall on this. Here is a pic, note especially the arrowed areas, but the whole thing in general needs work.

So I'm slowly making headway with the main character model, Old Man Willies for the short that I hope to finish for a film festival next year. I'm taking baby steps, pushing my knowledge limits and trying to do things right with the models before even attempting to start on the animation. This is a blink test, really intended to see how the hair emitter behaved for the eyelashes. Seems ok. I still have to add hair to the lower eyelash, mustache and beard, then on to face textures and, and and.....

Been trying to improve my Splinemanship as of late. Looking for suggestions or major "no-nos" I did on this model. I have alot of hard lines(creases) I can't seem to get rid of. I'm concerned with the breast area(that's where I see the most issues).

Your basic small, glass, Coke bottle. I found that I could noticeably reduce render times by separating the bottle surface into two groups, external and internal. I applied the same material to both groups but I modified the internal material instance by turning off its reflections. Even with a two reflection bounce limit it still made a difference.

I am working on a semi- (to high) realistic (we will see how well she will turn out ) model of a girl. She was modeled from scratch and isn't textured yet (apart from the eyes). She needs some more poses for talking- and emotional stuff, but till now I am quite pleased with her. Before I will go on texturing her, I thought I may adress the porceilan-problem I run into. I tried using the porceilan-material, but I got a problem with hooks there. Anyone knows what I am doing wrong there? The final-rendering is without(!) porceilan which looks okay too, but I would like to use the material to make it even more smooth. Any thoughts? Thanks for your comme…

Heres a new character that I am working on. The design is loosely based on Mark Allens drawing for his first character (Mark, since your rotos provided the inspiration you can have a copy of this head model if you wish - just drop me a line). I've been following along Anzovins Modelling a Head tute (just got past the eye and mouth parts - some good lessons there) This character will be a seargent (Space Marine) that may be used in the next image contest and June animation contest. I've got a lot of dirtying up to do As always, comments welcome. Cheers

Here is this afternoons work on one of a series of characters being developed ( working title of Blockheads ). The style of figure may be recognised ? Any feedback would be welcome, good, bad or please don't bother us again. I've still not learned how to smartskin so that will be the next stage. Points for spotting the sound clip source but, alas, no prizes. ( it was free... ). Thank you in advance for any comments. regards simonTest.mov

Hi! I need to create a sphere whose surface moves (or appears to move) something like boiling water. Looking at animated materials--color-wise it will be black with purple specular so the material will just be 'bump' (I think 'displacement' would be too much render time). I could probably find an animated clip but decaling a sphere and getting it even would be hard no matter how you work it (unfolding sphere, spherical mapping and placement, etc). Any ideas, let me know! Thanks, Rusty

I'm the "Key Grip" of my school's Film Consideration Club (FCC). We watch movies and talk about them. I've been assigned to make a backdrop for the projector. It's the image that displays when it's warming up, and before we put in a movie. It'll be up when people are coming in. It's not trying to sell anything, just something to look at. Here's my first pass at it. I plan to fix the way the film just ends on the upper right. Also, I wanted to do some spotlights a la 20th Century Fox, but I couldn't figure out a good way to do it. I plan to mess with the lighting a bit too. I'd love to hear what y'all think.

well in the ot section of the forums, i was introduced to cgsphere.com.so, i thought that i would start on mine imediatly, so i did. i chose to do somthing with the earth, then there was an ant jeet man had made and i knew what i was going to do. i made an A:M verstion of the required sphere set up, and started with a dirt material(turned out nicly). then added some grass(im still working on it), then added a rock(witch needs dirt on it), after that i added some ants. what i plann on doing is haveing and ant under the sphere trying to carry it. be up to seeing the update soon!!!

I'm working on rain, and came up with what seemed a clever solution. the rain is streaks, and the splashes on the chair are a flock of rain drops. After much frustration I finally got it working...until I closed and reopened the file. Now only one drop in the flock shows up. I know flocking has been a source of frustration to others, but anyone have advice. Is this just not a playable feature right now? Also anyone ever get Flock Surface constraint to work?
