A:M Forum Rules
GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!
-Ask questions about the software.
-Assist other users... everyone was new at this once.
-Inform people of your version/platform when asking for help.
-Share resources; tutorials, models, textures, tips and techniques (link to useful websites).
-Post links to your work, or where your art is being used online (on websites, in games, toons', etc.)
-Search the A:M Forum and FAQ. The question you are about to ask may have already been answered.
-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.
-No threads or comparisons related to other 3D Applications.
-No "Wish list" or feature requests, they should be sent to www.hash.com/reports for categorizing and prioritization (User requests define the future development of the software).
-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hello - this is an issue I have had before - I put a character in a scene and use the Left and Right foot Targets to make her walk forward - this leaves the Main bone back in the original spot, so it doesn't move with it - it seems to get left behind when you have a character move. That can then screw up other things when animating the char. When animating are you supposed to move this bone with it? - it makes the whole character move though - that is where I am confused. Thank you - Eric

Like the title says, I've created a model, and from what I've read, the program is lagging because there are so many cp points. I have an uber fast system and would think that it could handle a model like this. does anyone know any good optimization methods for AM? My specs: Quad-core 2.6 8gb DDR2 ATI 4870 X2 Thanks

I've used Hash since 2000, but this is the most major problem I've ever had. PLEASE HELP WITH THIS: I'm using Hash for a production. At one point I set up choreographies with my own frame counters in the form of image files per frame as rotoscopes in the camera...(single camera in each chor) I erased those rotoscopes to move on in production, but now all of a sudden...when I load these choreographies there are a zillion folders that load into the PWS. So many that the files are huge and I can't navigate without taking 10 or more minutes to erase all of them.... The folders...all one zillion of them are named "Rotoscopes" This has made it nearly imposs…

Hi all! I've got this skeleton I'm working on and I want to make the surface look older. I'd like to keep it simple and found some of the tutorials rather complex (like UV mapping). Anyone have a good suggestion on how to weather his joints? It looks like the weathering option is gone from version 13; is there something similar?

Hi All; I have been using AM for about two years and love it. But, even with all the fun, I have not been able to figure out how to make a hole in a compliated 3D shape. So, if I wanted to make a hole in a shere, or a rod (at a right angle). How would I do that ? From the other posts, some say I should make the hole first, then build around that.... but that can't work for the intended applcation. In AutoCAD, it uses a 'filet' where everything on the selected side of the shape is deleted, leaving the balance; thus creating a hole, or window.... Thank you for your efforts. ! KM

I know this has been covered before, I just can't find the post. I want to make a brick wall, which I know I can use a decal. However I want to add a bump map or material to make the wall look more textured. Wasn't there a post about this? So what will give the best result.... just a decal, a bump map, or just a material. Thanks!

Hello! Hoping someone can help point me in the right direction here... I'm making a simple wall clock and would like to animate it so that it does one of those "time passes quickly" gags. I've set it up with a bone for the minute hand and a bone for the hour hand. They are independent of each other and when you rotate them (from the front view), you can change the time on the clock, so it basically works, but I would like to make it more automatic. I need to constrain them, so that the hands only rotate around the center pin on one plane and I would like to make it so that moving the minute hand would work like a real clock: making it so t…

Hi everyone, Even though I've been around for quite some time, I'm still very, very new to modelling. What I would like to find out, is how would be the best way to make a golf ball in AM? I have looked and searched for the answer here in this forum, and come up with using bump maps on a normal sphere as a good way, and this sounds great. (Here comes the newbie part). I have found a bump map, but it is basically a big rectangle with the dots stretched at the edges (mainly at the top/bottom). I have tried just applying the image as a decal, and flattening the image (although Im not that great at flattening). Both results varied in effectiveness, but ba…

Hi, Just wondering. Is it possible to group 'groups' into another group as a hierarchy? Or is the group structure flat? I've made up a very simple patch as an example. Sp-Top are the 2 CPs along the top of the patch Sp-Bottom are the 2 CPs along the bottom Sp-Left are the 4 CPs on the left hand side Sp-Right are the 4 CPs on the right hand side. Holding Ctrl I can select each group and then make a new group included everything within each of the individual groups which is Sp-All. I'm wondering if it is possible to have a group that includes sub-groups but as a hierarchy - i.e. with a '+' so that it can be 'opened' / 'closed' in …

Hi, I'm trying to make a spiring seashell using the duplicator wizard. I got the idea from a reply on an old posting from the man that seems to know it all on this site (Rodney). I've been messing with the wizard but so far cant get anything remotely close to a tight spiral. I'm confusd as to what all the settings on the wizard means and how to control them to get a quality shape. If anyone has made something like this before feel free to share what settings you used. Thanks for looking. -PM

I made a group for "top eyelids" but realized I wanted to move them independently at times. So I selected "top eyelids," hit "G" for group mode, held alt and deselected one eye's cpts. But NOW my "top eyelids" group doesn't select the cpts I deselected at that moment. Is there a way to narrow your cpt selection from a group without altering that group?

Hi All, I just wanted to see if anyone has any info on making toys with AM. I remember talking to Victor Navone about making Blitz model / statues like ages ago and he sent me some links to toy makers which I have lost, like ages ago. I do know that the models are created on Rapid Prototype Machines and you need to send them to the Toy makers in STL ( Stereolithography) file format for the machines to output, but not how to convert AM models. Animation Master is such a powerful organic modelling application, it is such a waste to not be able to this sort of work with it. If anyone has used AM to create toys or models, I would like to hear about the…

Hey Gang! I'm trying to map some Quicktime files onto the green and blue screens, but unfortunately, AM keeps crashing on me. Should I be using a certain codec? Does AM like Quicktime files with alfas? Should I use some pic sequence such as a targa instead of a Quicktime movie? Also, I wanted to add some people (green screen and keyed with alfa) onto the middle stage. Can I place them there without having to map onto a grid/wall? Can they stand alone away from the wall right up to the railing or do I have to map them onto a solid grid/wall? Thanks in advance.
