DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Probably a simple property that got altered, but as I'm trying to do Exercise 6 and position shaggy, some of his bones have turned blue in colour and I can no longer control them properly. I can't grab the base of his hand bone and drag the whole arm around...I can't move it at all except for rotating it, or if I use the arrow keys on my keyboard it actually will deform the model itself. The bones that have remained while when un-selected operate as I would expect, just not the ones that are blue when un-selected. I've attached a screen shot of what happened when out of frustration I had the bone selected and used the arrow keys. ...what silly thing did I do? Th…

Hey everyone! Just wanted to post some links I have found useful in my modeling. I have included blueprint links as well as DEMs & model sheets that are great to use as rotoscopes. Hi, Here are some good site's for blueprints and rotoscopes. http://www.the-blueprints.com - Very good site for everything e.g Planes, Weapons, Cars http://www.militaryfactory.com/blueprints/..._blueprints.asp - Useful for planes and helicopters (basic blueprints). http://www.frazmtn.com/~punstr/blueprint/ - Less detail but good for Star Wars Blue prints If you have any more please add them below, and I will add them to my list. If you can't find a rotoscope or a blueprint that you want please reply with the name of it and I will try to find it Enjoy Elliot

I am using v.12 I am attempting to render my video in layers, and I have a box in the foreground I am rendering individually as a series of TGA images. I have applied the Blur post effect to it. I have turned on the "apply camera's post effects to rendering" in the camera's buffer. My box is rendering blurred, but the edges are coming out hard when I import the TGA. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?

Hi, Having played around with pose sliders and building sub-assemblies I decided to start working on Bone Constraints. Looked easy enough - first mistake. Looked far too easy. Here is the model that I am using It has 1 bone, and all the CPs are allocated to that bone. Previously, I used a pose slider to allow the model rotate around the bone (i.e. along Z), so now want to do it with a bone constraint. Selected the bone and set up the constraints So far so good. I set up an action to test it out and when I selected it, there was just one ring to manipulate the model as I had hoped. However, I then tried dropping the model into a choreogr…

Hi, I've been working my way slowly through Barry's great Video Tutorials and then trying them out in practice and have come across something that I don't understand. It is to do with constraints where the enforecement is less than 50% Rotate-00 shows the 'home position'. All 4 bones are pointing straight up. The 'control bone' is on the left and the other three bones are all constrained to orient the same as the control bone as follows: Going from left to right, the first bone is enforced with 100%, the next bone is enforced 50% and the last bone on the right is enforced by 40% Now, rotate the control bone by 45 and all bones seem to be behaving. …

I'm making animation frames for a game. These are made of a base model, construckting poses for their behaviour. This has going right always, but lately I find skipping bones appearance. So I start with an action from a base frame, and then suddenly in the 5th pose the bone looses its line shape. It becomes a sort of haze and as soon as I try to catch it with the mouse it's gone. The former radio button that showed off its "show bone"gets locked. The rest of the pose I can only hope the rest of the bones keeps its excistency. Here are some screens to show the effect. Did I miss a an option somewhere?

Hello, Here in France I have a few days of vacation to accelerate my exploration of AM which I find brilliant, only the rather long calculation times bother me. The rest of the program is fine with me. In the tutorial : at 8:57 the user clicks on a bone and duplicates it with the control key. I can not reproduce this action !? I do not understand why ? Do you have another example please? I don't have any examples of how to use smartskins, do you have any? This is what animation master lacks. These are simple examples of simple situations. When I understand the basics of AM better, I will try to find time for many very simple examples. This can help…

Hi - I recently bought a new computer and had to re-install AM v13 on it, along w/ everything else. I needed to model and add something to a character, which I did. I went into bone mode to associate the new item w/ a bone and all the bones do show, but when I click on any of the bones, all the CPs that normally light up that color associated with that bone remain black. Is there an icon or something that I am not clicking on? There is an image below showing when I clicked on the middle back bone, and the CPs don't light up. Thank you for any help - Eric

Is it possible to make bone movements during an action - for example a 5 second walk cycle is it possible half way through to manually have the character's head turn to the left or right? (not a part of the actual action) I tried to key the neck bone and rotate it, but it wont turn until after the 5 second walk where I created a new chor action. Thanks - Eric

I know I post a new topic at least once a day.. just wanted to say thankyou! to everyone that has answered- I am learning so fast, mostly because I get quick and accurate responses from everyone So my newest questions: 1. I need to know how to restrain my bones on my character from going past (ex.: elbow overextending, head turning all the way around) I think once I can get that done, my model will really be animatable. 2. in what window (model, action, etc.) can I add constraints in, so that every time I import my model into an action or choreography, I don't have to add them in again? Thanks!! EDIT 3. I just applied materials to my model for …

Is it possible to limit the rotation of bones at the set up stage so that they do not exceed the natural limits of the human form and, if so, does anyone have a list of the angle limits ? On the setup I have at the moment it is possible to move some bones in the wrong dimension and I have to go back and reset them afterwards. For example: In the fingers, the base of the finger can move in all three dimension ( XYZ). The mid section and the finger tip can only rotate in the z dimension - forwards and backwards. The hope is to setup a rig I can use in future projects. Thank you in advance. regards simon

I'm creating an animation of a person walking down some steps. I started with "Eddie" and got him walking down the steps ok, but in scaling his feet up to what I considered to be about the right size for the steps it seems that his legs are very short. So I want to scale his legs up (longer). That screws up the bones. In trying to fix the bones I reviewed the "Show some backbone" tut. The book has more detail than the video, but still leaves something to be desired. His lower legs seem to work, but his upper legs kinda crimp. This raises a broader question. Is there a better reference available that gives a lot of detail about how to set up bones, exactly…

I'm not new to 3D modeling, I've owned Animation master for 6 years but sadly never used it as I found it intimidating at first. I am now at a point in my skillset to be able to create cartoon characters but need to be able to add bones and rig them for posing, maybe even export as rigged models for resale. The thing is I use another 3D app to model with and import my models into AM via 3ds, so the question is can I use an imported mesh in AM if yes how? I'd like to assign bones and rig them if possible.

Also, the "Hip orientate" does not seem to stay with the leg bones, is it suppose to? Is there any other option other then rigging again?

I selected the hand bone and used the Ctrl Scale icon (top toolbar) to scale the hand and all its children finger bones. That worked but then all dem finger bonz disappeared from the pose window even tho they're turned on in the model view. Then I saw that there was a "Hidden" channel added to ALL those frickin' finger bonz in the relationship window. I had to delete that Hidden channel from all the finger bonz one at a time to make them reappear. So, my question is: Did I cause that to happen using the Ctrl-scale function? and is there a way to turn them all off easily?

Following chapter 3 of "A:M A Complete Guide" by David Rogers, I'm rigging my flour sack with bones and assigning CP Weights. When I turned on "Has Falloff" to the bones, all the numbers assumed some default values, for example: Pivot Outer 35%, etc. As instructed by the book, I used "Compute All CP Weights" from the model window contextual menu. However, I don't know what effect that is supposed to make. I don't see any changes in the "Falloff" numbers, for example. I tried "Remove All CP Weights", and likewise don't see any change anywhere, either in the property values or the coloration in Shaded mode. The Shaded mode coloration seems normal, wit…

I heard a long time ago of a property or something called boolean cutter (if I can remember) which allowed a model to cut another becoming invisible itself. It would mean that you can model a wall, then intersect a cube in it and, by using this boolean cutter, make the cube invisible but leaving a hole of this cube's size in the wall. If I can remember, this hole would be patched too. I mean that it would look like if you had modelled this hole in the wall previously. I'm interested in using this property for animation. I,ve modelled a simple object and I'm interested in using another object with this boolean cutter option as a mask in the same way as masks are used …

I’ve played around with Boolean cutters several times now and I’m pretty pleased with how simple they can be used for cutting shapes. However, I’ve been digging through the project files on the A:M Extra DVD and I’ve not (yet) found a project that makes use of a Boolean Cutter, instead, I only see very skilled spline modeling of which I can only dream of. I did a quick search hoping to find a possible reason why I don’t see it used often and if there are any downsides to using Boolean Cutters.

Hi there. Working more through Fuchur's excellent Tank tutorial project and have completed the second video, which ends with adding boolean holes to the end of the turrets. I noticed an odd thing (well, odd to me, surely familiar to others). If I do an in-program render, the booleans show up fine. However if I render to file, the boolean cutters are rendered. Is this a sign that the boolean isn't calculated in the render, or maybe the cutters have to be set to not render, or...? Not a huge emergency and I'm sure the solution is simple enough. Just call me curious. Here's the shots. One is in-editor, one is the rendered-to-file. Really great tutorial s…

My idea is to set up the newbie topic with the same format as in the TWO movie topics. You'd create sub-topics in the Newbie forum for Modeling, Animating, rigging, etc that way you have an organized location that is not excl…

Hi all, I am trying my own version of the bouncing ball. I watched Cristin McKee's videos (Anzovin Studios) and I understand the part about being able to rotate with one bone (center bone) and doing squash and stretch with another bone (at base of model), and swtiching between both during the creation of the animation. The problem I am having is when I switch to the bottom bone it won't sqaush and stretch at all. Am I doing something wrong or could this be a bug? Thanks Chris

So I've made my 2nd bouncing ball attempt: http://homepage.mac.com/somniac/.Pictures/bball2.mov Of note is that the first two bounces should be perfect. That's because I made an Excel spreadsheet that applies the Equations of Motion: Download Spreadsheet By typing in the first contact coordinates, and then the coordinates of the first apex, as well as the coefficient of restitution, (as long as the x-coordinates stay positive) and the number of frames between the first contact and the first apex, it computes up to the first 20 frames (for now) and the coordinates of the 2nd apex. Now the problem: You'll notice the third bounce looks like crap! …
