DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I tried searching the forum but decided the quickest way was to just post a question. I'm doing a second Simcloth skirt on my dancing girl (some new steps), just resaved the chor with the original skirt animated and deleted the splines folder. But when I go to do the simulation, her skirt just falls through the floor. I know this has been brought up (probably by me!) but I can't find an answer and I recollect that it was a simple fix. EDIT: Got the skirt to stay attached but now the simulation isn't happening. The skirt stays rigid. Awhile back I downloaded and watched the video tute on cloth made from a scene in TWO, however I lost it when my external drive went bel…

Hello, Any time there are four points that are comprised of two splines, a face is created. Some of these faces I don't want. Now, I know that I can get rid of them by adding a fifth vertex, but this creates a good deal of complication as the fifth vertex breaks the adjacent face (which I want to keep), which I have to deal with by adding more vertices, and creating more polys than I wanted to. so, to make a long story short, is there any way to make a face go away? For example, select it with the face selection tool, and then _do something_ to disable it ? Thanks!

Hey folks, can anyone help me, I'm working on a model and suddenly I can't select any control points. If I click on one or any of them nothing happens that I can see. On a rare occasion if I try and grab a whole section of points the green selection box will grab another area of the model. I tried opening older versions and the same thing happens, which is nothing, so then I thought perhaps reinstalling the software might help. It didn't, same problem. I'm going through the Posts now to see if this has happened to anyone else but I may as well start a new post also and get the ball rolling, Help me animation masters, I'm getting desperate. Aj

So I have mastered modeling a vase (pronounced Voz) and wanted to move on to something a little more complicated. This is also somewhat of a test for me to see if I have embedded everything into my project so it can all be downloaded by you guys. There should be 2 rotoscopes and 1 spline in this project. The handle of the bow should be approx. 15cm tall/high. The question is: What would be my best approach to modeling at least the handle of this thing? I'm not necessarily looking for someone to just do it for me, but I'd like some instruction as to how to approach this thing. I'm guessing there should be some extrusion involved, but I do not have a top vi…

For a Star Trek parody, I am using AM to construct a CGI Enterprise Bridge set. I have successfully constructed the physical bridge, but am now trying to apply decals for the wall and console images. I was successful for the first two images I tried (planets picture, and Enterprise Diagram), then ran into distortion within the decal when I tried to apply the third one (Indicator Light and Plaque) to the Elevator Alcove Right Wall. Everything worked, right through the positioning process, but when I clicked on "apply," everything inside the decal distorted by expanding horizontally on the left and progressively contracting horizontally to the right, and stayed that way! …

Hi, I,ve just produced my first animation, and it looks great. However, i would like to render to an AVI or TGA sequence to be able to mix in a video stream input. I found that the rendering procces render the animation with the Choreography background, i I don't know how to get rid off the background Another question is that if I want to render to an AVI file with the Alpha (Key) channels enabled, i would need two AVI files: one with the animation itself, and another whit the "alpha" animation. Is there any way to do that with A.M? Thanks

Someone please answer these two question!!!! Question #1. I am far into the TAOA:M and have yet to be able to save a model as actor or model or as anything but .prj! How do I save it? I know it sounds like a stupid question but I am very frustrated LOL. Question #2. after doing "Make it Talk" my work was great but when I save it to .mov it has no sound. I noticed many peoples had no sound either. what file type or how do I save it with sound? Thanks a million to any who answer these.

Hi - I'm just restarting learning A:M (V11.1i) after years of fallow, so I have some really basic platform/environment questions. I was just fooling around with Keekat in a choreography window. I started in Chor mode. (Standard Mode was selected the whole time.) In Chor mode, it seemed there is only one selection I can make, the entire Keekat object, so I found a handle and tilted Keekat so he fell like a tree in one second (using 3 key frames) and was horizontal. It played back fine using the "play range" button. I tried clicking the "Modeling Mode" mode button and then "play range". It also played back the same animation, albeit with a different l…

I am not sure where the best place to post this so I am posting here since I am still learning AM. I have AM v16.0b 64 bit. I'm running it on Windows 7 64bit. I have a Dell XPS 1702X with a 4Core i7-2760QM CPU and a dual graphics cards. The built in Intel Card and an NVIDIA Geforce GT 555M graphics card w 1GB RAM. I have set the NVIDIA control panel to use the Graphics card when loading AM 64 bit. Other than that I have only the default NVIDIA settings. While working on a model, it has happened 2 - 3 times now - the numpad keys wont work for switching views. Everything else seems to be working - other keys in AM seem to be working. I've been taking another run at bump maps. I made a bump stencil and put blur on it in Corel. I put it on as a bump map on the model and did a render lock on the model and it looked fine, but when I did a render to file it barely showed as a shadow trace on the surface. Is it because I have a material on the Vase? Why would it render one way in render lock and another in render to file?

I have the Orangutan 10.5 disk which I installed, then applied the 2004 11.1i upgrade to. When I launch the 10.5 version, the help menu works fine. With the 11.i1 version (2005), everything seems to work fine except the Help menu -- it gives the error: "Failed to launch Help" I'm hoping it is some simple file missing from some place during the install. Does anyone familiar with old versions have an idea what could be amiss? My work around is to install and run both versions, just to access the help menu, which is awkward and space-busting. Is there some way to view the help without the program? That could be another workaround. Regards…

Hi, folks - Thanks for reading, sorry for such a basic question. I'm modelling a mini servo with some attachments - the first is the "rotor" that attaches directly to the servo shaft, the second is an elbow piece and the third is an extended arm, as attached. On the attached screen dump, I've photoshopped the bones of the different models in the choreography as best I can so they can all be seen. The dark red one at the bottom is the servo main bone. The big cyan one can be ignored - it's a boolean cutter. You can just about see the bone for the servo shaft - it's in there, but it's overlaid by the light red model bone of the rotor. At the base of the elbo…

Hi all Once again I dived in the deep end and decided to take another crack at character modeling. This time, partially for an overly ambitious idea for advertising my webcomic on youtube, I started playing with one of my newer characters a cute, perky and petite goth punk from Devonshire: P. Blossom Hannaford. anyway as per usual i whipped up a rotoscope and got to work. So far it's coming along nicely so far. For what it's worth, I think it's much more successful than my previous attempts Mainly because this time I worked a lot smaller so the computer isn't choking on it yet and since this is a cartoon figure I went in with the Kiss principle in mind which give…

Hello folks; greetings from Brisbane Australia, I've used Animmaster since V10 (currently V15). The model densities I am now generating exceed the limitations of 32bit OS. The checkdiskCD makes for a portable application that can be tried on various OpSystems. (I use XPSP3 rather Wind7 due to better behaviour from AnimMaster. I can't find a lot of information about the new downloadable application format (or much else that may be related). I would be highly appreciative, (perhaps remember you in my will), if someone could point me to where these answers lay... I need a 64bit version. How do I know I am downloading the 64bit version? I haven't used animation:master in a while, a long while, in fact I can't find my CDs so I soon plan to repurchase (or subscribe or whatever the deal is now), what might have me interested in playing again is this: For about a year now I've been playing more and more with my NVidia 3d vision display. I now own 3 pairs of 3D glasses, so I can use it to watch or show what is on the screen to others. I know for a fact (from memory) that Hash A:M supported 3d *rendering*, that is when I used it a few years ago it supported I think it was the red/cyan 3d rendering so if you used the glasses that came with it, it would display the 3d image though a little discolored. …

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what we failed to do or could it be that we didn't receive adequate disc info?

I'd create an image sequence of this display in a paint program, going from lowest price to highest price, and apply that sequence as a decal to your sign. In your chor you can control the displayed frame of an image sequence. It would be easy to make it go up-down-up-down as needed for your story. And easy to revise the timing of that as you refine your animation. Is "image sequence" a technical term? I made a bunch of .jpgs of the various prices, but I don't see an obvious "apply image sequence" option under applying decals.... (the glitches I'm getting w/ jpgs is another problem, I'll just mass convert them..) Is this just another way of saying m…

Hi Folks ... I added some audio to Keekat and everything appears OK in preview (choreography). When rendered, the audio appears to have shifted over time, and finishes befor the character. After the first render I noticed the problem. My initial thoughts were based on frame count (FPS) as I've seen similar converting NTSC to PAL videos. Also, I remembered that I'd originally created the project at 24 FPS (in v11.1) and then loaded it into 2007 defaulted at 30 FPS. So I checked everything and I reset 2007 to 24 FPS in Options and in the render setup of the .mov But ... the file sizes were the same and I still have the audio finishing early. …

I've been reviewing that some 3D artist start their models in 2d. They draw up the left/right side and then front/back. In which, they then integrate those two 2D outlines and make their 3D model. Other 3D artist seem to start off with just a couple patches and keep extruding and tweaking step by step. Apparently, there is no true way to model, I presume. My question is this though, how do you as a 3D artist/modeler start your day when you begin making a model? Also is there an effective way to model, to speed up the process at times?

Not sure if this is possible or makes sense, but I'm working on a beveled cube example from "A:M A Complete Guide", and I made a beveled cube with straight splines by setting peaking. Now I want to slightly round the bevel, so I want to selectively set some gammas on the bevel splines. But first, I want to set all the alphas to zero and all the magnitudes to 100% just for uniformity. If I "select all" with ctrl-A and then set the bias properties for all, some of the biases on the model do not change, and are still odd-ball values. Is this supposed to work, setting all at once? -SB

Hi all, I'm looking at trying to do post editing completely in AM and create an animation showing that you can do post effects without having to spend big money for programs like after effects (I'm not a student so I'd have to pay about a grand for the professional version of after effects). My question is, can you control the shudder of the camera to create fade effects? I've got a work around that works very cool if not but I'd think you could. If so how? I'll tell you my work around after I get responses. Jeetman

Righty-O folks, I come before you with a new quandary today. I am working my way through the tutorial attached in David Rogers' "Animation:Master A Complete Guide" book (modeling a face). I am ok up through what you see in figure 5.38. I break the spline and it looks just like that. It is what comes next that gives me issues. I am unable to create the nostril hole as instructed in figure 5.39 WITHOUT that hole patching/filling in. It is obviously not supposed to fill in, it is supposed to be a hole, but it isn't happening for me. Two other things that confound me, but not as much as the first, main issue are that: 1. In addition to drawing the loop in figure 5.…
