They are ALWAYS after me Lucky Charms! I had'nt posted anything here in a while, so I thought I'd post a short clip from a TV commercial I finished recently. So, this small-time TV producer guy in Florida stumbles on my website (campbellanimation.com) and contacts me about a cable spot he's making for a 'house-flipper' client who wanted an animated Leprechaun, and 1 month later I finished the job in Hash and collected a small reward. The fun part was matching the shadows, Florida hasher's may see this on their cablevision. I'll post the whole mcgilla on my site soon. Happy Saint Patricks Day! Here's the model. The client wanted this model to be 's…

Yeah, I need help, what is wrong with him. Below is a picture of skimpy 1.0 and 2.0, I am making 2.0 better with hips and such, but I must know what is wrong with him before I move on with rigging.

I modelled a tank which I want to model again in a videotutorial about mechanical modelling in A:M. But I have a problem with a volumetric light. It has a strange ray in the middle. Maybe someone can tell me what is happening there. Thanks in advance *Fuchur*

Hi Hashers and Spline-folk, I was at a loss when it came to coming up with an idea to animate, so I just wrote some action words on pieces of paper and put them in a can, then blindly picked out three. Words for basic actions in threes almost make a nice little scene. (Hopefully, the words you pick will align in context like mine.) It's a good way to flex your animation muscles, by playing this game with yourself. Well, have fun! Afraid21Lg.mov

Last night I got an idea of making an silly seagull, don't know why though I did not have any clear vision of how he would end up like, so I just started to spline. He is far from finish, but I think I have an good start. The wings needs a lot of tweaking, and I have no clue in how to model the tail to obtain the "style" he got so far. Anyway, after a few hours of splining I ended up with this: note that he is made just for fun. Comments or crits are highly appreciated Regards Stian [attachmentid=11774]

Task for the week....work out fur.... I've never used the new hair grooming features and hair dynamics, so I pulled out my Kow model and started. This is after an hour or so. I've gromed the direction, Now I need to adjust the length and the density. The render is a frame from a turntable animation with 25% motion blur(hence the slight fuzziness. The discovery of the day is that fur seems to render quite well even with low res zbuffer shadows and animation. This still is lit by 2 Kleig lights with 256res ZBuffer shadows. [attachmentid=12937]

Just doodling on a Saturday afternoon. I was looking at the kicking gizmo on the models page. I'm learning to build scenes in layers, nothing profound. Who ever made the gizmo, very clever. 9MB I guess there's still a slot open for Saddam cheers

Looks like I landed another animation/automation project. This new one is for a $500K Automation project. The company doing the proposal is having a hard time conveying the concept to the customer (that's where I come in). I'll animate the proposed line. Wish me luck, I'm goin in. David

Hey Hashers! I did not know what to get you all for Xmas and you were ALL on my list...so I made a neat little model! This is a graphic firework (see movie for example) that is safe so you won't blow your fingers off. The effect makes use of Hash's boolean feature to reveal and unreveal the burst. You can make your own bursts to change things up... There are 2 poses with the model- 1 reveals the burst and the other UNreveals it... HAVE FUN! Have a VERY Spliney Holidays! I am currently working on a full 3 1/2 minute animation with him in it called "The Evil Fly", which should be done in a month or so. I've started a car of no specific type. I just grabbed a rotoscope and started making the car..I made some parts the way I wanted them to look so it'd be a new type of car...I've only made half of it...(screenshot below). I still have some unwanted creases. I had problems with five point patches but fixed 'em up. What a relief! Critiques please!

This turned out way better than I had any right to expect. I'm working on a large, beaux arts style, arch that needs a keystone with a classical human figure carved in it. Looking for inspiration on the Web, I came across a free 3D model of a nicely proportioned and posed female figure, unfortunately in 3DS format. After waiting almost 8 hrs. for it to import into A:M (47,000 patches, 8.3 Mb model) I knew that I couldn't add any new splines to the model since finding patches and aligning normals took a LONG time. All I could do was apply aaver's normal map material and render out a rotoscope. Using the rotoscope as a guide, I built surrounding splinage to smooth…

I've been looking for a model of a panda bear for a website project. Anyone have one they'd be willing to let me use? I thought there was one on the A:M disc, but I can't find it, and the old "Panda on Fire" project isn't up on the FTP mirror anymore. (If an actual panda isn't available, a regular bear may be ok, I'll just have to re-texture it.) Thanks! Sev

This helmet model, Helmet Fly-by (Windows Media, 851 KB) Helmet Fly-by (QuickTime, 1.12 MB) goes with the inline speed skate: http://www.civicreflections.com/SkateFlyBy_QT.mov (1.2 MB.) I'm having trouble getting a compression setting that doesn't mess up fast motion in QuickTime-I've given up for now. Guess I can't put off much longer the part between the helmet and the skates. Well, here goes my attempt to actually post something, hopefully it works. This guy started out as just a very simple attempt at organic modeling. He's really simple, and some people will notice I borrowed ideas from the "Killer Bean" character. I was just trying to make an egg have arms and legs as a way to practice using 5 point patching. He just kept evolving. The sunglasses were an attempt to make eyes, which I screwed up, and then realized my mistake would make really neat sunglasses so I just went with it. I figure he'd make a great bad-ass super hero, in world populated with egg people, and his only weapon would be a sledge hammer.

I have run into some difficulty with bumpmaping. When I apply it on a simple grey surface it works quite nicely with 150% But when I add some procedural parameters on that surface it no longer shows up. (Same is happening when I add a fake rim light to the whole model) It`s not supposed to be that way is it? What can I possibly be doing wrong? I am on PC AM15f

Using the little Mignola demon faerie, I have an eight-frame wingbeat cycle. I'm trying to build an Action in which he arches his back [chest out] stretches his arms out to the side, brings them front and claps his hands twice. Then drop into the 'ready-set-go' runners position. I want the wing cycle to happen sporadically as part of the warm up...but can't find a way to dupe the keyframes as a group. [in previous apps., I could Select>Alt>and drag copies] You'll see in the timeline where I duped the action one keyframe, one channel at a time. But is there a faster way? Second, when I paste the new keyframe in, it inserts a keyframe in every channel. Then …

Hello all. I am looking for a variety of animators to produce short features for non-broadcast use. I need a variety of styles. From CUTESY to DETAILED. Some will be loops, others more scripted. Cute animated characters, space themes, dinosaurs.... seeking it all. I am paying by PayPal or check. Certainly not top dollar or industry standard, but for a beginner who has talent, this is a great opportunity. If I like what I see, I will come back for more. Please send demo reels & inquiries to j2productions@mac.com Thanks. -James

Hi This file is a heavily compressed version of my entry to the April Competition at 10secondclub.com. I missed the deadline due to last minute compression problems. I was taking a 640x320 avi file, (13+ Mb), and attempting to get a 320x240 MPEG-1 file which fell between 1.5Mb and 1.8Mb. In the end I failed. The file shown here has been compressed as follows: 640x480 to 200x180pixels compressed with Sorenson3 at 20%. Audio compressed to 8bit mono using MACE 6:1 The results are not good so I am hoping that one of you wizards out there will be able to offer some advice. What is the best way of creating an MPEG-1 at 320x240 with decent sound and a legible …

So, I'm kinda fiddling around with some stuff working on this concept of a project, and what I'm working with is fire, namely my hands on fire. The hand model I'm using is the one that came on the Extras CD, so it doesn't exactly fit my hand, but it helps some, but a real hand model that fits may be in order, but yeah: shot1.mov

Since I am working overtime on my "real" job, I don't have time for serious animation projects these days. So I thought I'd try a simple project to teach myself a bit about compositing in AM. I have some video footage shot out the passenger window of my car and thought I might composite this with a flying Shaggy, as though he were flying along side the car like Superman. Simple animation project that could be done in the course of a day or so. The attached image shows how simple the green screen setup is. I've created a simple green screen behind Shaggy and will animate him bobbing and weaving in the air as though he were flying. Then I'll composite this with th…
