There may already be a way to do this but if no one has posted anything yet.... Here's a way to switch between camera shots, angles, rotations etc... just using one camera, during one render. I've included the project file so you can pick at it. 1. Set the camera's "Interpolation Method" to "HOLD". 2. Move the camera to a different point in time. 3. Now the camera will quickly switch from one view to the next. camera_switch.zip

Thought I'd show how last weeks test ended-up. No matter what I did I had anomolies in the floor from the klieg lights I constrained for headlights si I rendered it without lights and without floor reflections separately and half mixxed the two in AfterEffects. Thought I would put it in the 'showcase' section because I am DONE tweeking on it. This clip shows Miss D. interacting with the car, with V11 hair, dynamics, smoke via streaks which I could NOT get to get any bigger, and distortion/box poses on the car. The animation was rendered at D1 30fps but I have to shrink it to 400X270 12 fps with LOTS of Sorenson Compression to get it under 1 mb. takeoff.mov

This was my attempt at speed modeling. WARNING: Splines in project file below are poorly built and illogical. These were Speed-Splines as I was timing myself to see how long this would take. (1.5hrs). Regards, Eugene

Hey Hashers! I did not know what to get you all for Xmas and you were ALL on my list...so I made a neat little model! This is a graphic firework (see movie for example) that is safe so you won't blow your fingers off. The effect makes use of Hash's boolean feature to reveal and unreveal the burst. You can make your own bursts to change things up... There are 2 poses with the model- 1 reveals the burst and the other UNreveals it... HAVE FUN! Have a VERY Spliney Holidays! ChiwawaTest15_221008.choThis little-dog model of mine renders kind of strange. Like when you have drunken too much. (see picture) Guess, this must be something in the settings? (I cant detect nothing unusual ) Anybody has any expierience with that? It would interest me , what causes this, not only to be able to avoid it, but also to be able to create it, in case you would need something like this. ? Jake ? StrangeTest15_221008.prj

Hello there! After longer abstinence I finally started A:M again and thought that a pumpjack would be a good exercise for a mechanical object. Moving parts in various directions for rigging, both big and small parts to model. Right now it's in the "big parts completed" stage (attached is a quick render from the modeller). Next steps: adding details like nuts and bolts, some gears and vents for the engine box, struts, walkways and ladders. Still lots of work to model but I'll post this with a question: any good tutorials or how-to's out there when it comes to texturing/weathering? I think... no, I know that I'll suck at that - and even though this is just a little si…

Hey everyone, Thanks to you answering all my question over the past several months - I have created my first rigged character and put him in a short intro animation. I am currently working on a full 3 1/2 minute animation with him in it called "The Evil Fly", which should be done in a month or so. Here is a link to the animation: Character Intro Link Again, thanks for all your support in help in quickly answering all my posts. Eric LoCascio

Hey--- I have a new movie on my site http://mcampbell.250free.com showing how I was able to achieve a 'new look' for a toon character using A:M and Photoshop and After Effects. click on the 'toon shader' button. Basicly, the character was already designed for a childrens book and they (the potential client) wanted the SAME look but in motion 3D... I prepped this test in 6 hours...it may sell the gig... I roughly modelled the character in A:M, then did selective renders...tail...skin...shirt...eyes...etc by turning OFF the visibility of everything I DID NOT want rendered and I used an alpha channel...brought the :04 sequences individually into Photoshop where…

http://www.gentlechifitness.com/new_page_10.htm I got word that I can disclosed this, and it was a paid assignment, yee haw! I hope to animate this someday. I have kind of been animating this on the side to make sure it works. This was kind of a fun character to make. Its a compound bow, a fishing rod, and a shotgun. What thought went into how to make a inanimate object to life? It was a task and challenge that I love doing. I wasn't expected to even discern the sex of the object?

Doubt I'll be able to finish this in time, but would still like to hear your thoughts... specifically related to: 1. Concept 2. Readability 3. Pacing 4. Staging These are coworkers, and the picture on the wall behind the girl is her manager. It's rough, but should be enough for you "directors" to evaluate. Thanks! Mark (1.6Mb, Sorenson 3 Mov.) For those of you who missed its debut in September, The History Channel is airing "The Battle of Tripoli" again this week--at 11pm on Thursday the 11th, and again at 3am on Friday the 12th. I believe that is for both east and west coast. However, I have DirectTV and I'm on the west coast, so we get it at 8pm and midnight. (stupid spherical Earth...) So anyway, just be sure to check your local listings. There are sailing ships and maps that were made using A:M, and I have samples on my web site if you happen to miss it. Enjoy!

I have kept up-to-date with my blog and modeling 30 household objects (6 so far) but now I have added animations as well with the aim of 30 animations. After 3 animations I am really pleased with the progress, of course it is not wonderful or awe inspiring but I am moving in the right direction and moreover my 3rd animation gave me a sense of achievement as I was able to do everything I wanted in A:M because I had spent the time gaining the knowledge on how to do it. anyhow if you follow the link at the bottom and select the animation page you can see the progress. As usual the blog etc. is up-to-date.

This turned out way better than I had any right to expect. I'm working on a large, beaux arts style, arch that needs a keystone with a classical human figure carved in it. Looking for inspiration on the Web, I came across a free 3D model of a nicely proportioned and posed female figure, unfortunately in 3DS format. After waiting almost 8 hrs. for it to import into A:M (47,000 patches, 8.3 Mb model) I knew that I couldn't add any new splines to the model since finding patches and aligning normals took a LONG time. All I could do was apply aaver's normal map material and render out a rotoscope. Using the rotoscope as a guide, I built surrounding splinage to smooth…

Some of you may remember the image I did for the April image contest, which you can see here: http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?album=30&pos=41 I was asked if I would donate this scene for inclusion on the AM CD, and I agreed to do so. However, the CD is intended for new users to be able to load up the scene, click 'render' and have the nifty scene produce a cool result. My scene there relies on Darktrees for about 90% of the texturing, and since the Simbiont is a 3rd party utility (and a little confusing to get running for someone who's never even used AM), I agreed to do a remake of the scene using only textures/materials that can run in …

I mentioned this some time ago in the Star Trek Red Squad thread and delayed opening a new thread up for it until now. So here's the lowdown. With Red Squad, it obviously has it's main and secondary characters with dialogue. The thing is, where this takes place on starships, these guys aren't the only crew members on the ships. So what I'm hoping/asking for, is if anyone has any decently "semi-realistic" heads that they're willing to donate to simply be background crew members who mill about, use computers etc. They could be guy or girl, though I don't have any female bodies built, so you may have to supply that as well, but if all you have is the head, I'll take tha…

Task for the week....work out fur.... I've never used the new hair grooming features and hair dynamics, so I pulled out my Kow model and started. This is after an hour or so. I've gromed the direction, Now I need to adjust the length and the density. The render is a frame from a turntable animation with 25% motion blur(hence the slight fuzziness. The discovery of the day is that fur seems to render quite well even with low res zbuffer shadows and animation. This still is lit by 2 Kleig lights with 256res ZBuffer shadows. [attachmentid=12937]

I've been looking for a model of a panda bear for a website project. Anyone have one they'd be willing to let me use? I thought there was one on the A:M disc, but I can't find it, and the old "Panda on Fire" project isn't up on the FTP mirror anymore. (If an actual panda isn't available, a regular bear may be ok, I'll just have to re-texture it.) Thanks! Sev

myGameTV.com is a new syndicated video game review TV show. The show airs in Florida as well as worldwide on the internet. We're like Siskel & Ebert on crack. We're seeking animated shorts 1-5 minutes long that are hilariously funny, maybe a little controversial. If they are gaming related that is a plus. Although there is no compensation, we offer screen credit and there is a lot of exposure and we can also plug your website on television. I had to cheat a little and get this animation done. It's a little rougher than I would have liked, but it still works for what it is. I did use the blobbies in the shutoff segment, and would have liked to use them in other places to describe the fuel flow direction. Even better would probably have been using sprites, but I'm still unclear on how to get them (sprites) to behave properly. Thanks to Johnl3d for all his advice and guidance, and to everyone else who gave me tips. http://hre.com/jhvdigital/videoclips/colorsystem.rm Quicktime format; http://hre.com/jhvdigital/videoclips/pumpanimation.mov

Here's something I've been working on for quite awhile, in my downtime. Still left to do is texturing (the hard, almost-black rubber and plastic of the mask) I have to finish the "eyes" (right now they're just flat panels with the pics decaled, which is pretty close to the final product, except the eye pics are going to be on torn pieces of paper instead of flat patches). I'll need to tweak the refractive properties of the glass in the eyepieces. Also, the lights, which are just kinda thrown inside the mask for these renders, will become permanent parts of the model. There will be a volumetric "lamp" inside the mask which will backlight the translucen…

Hi, This is a video I made for my church. It features my pastor, Brian, and his secretary and some standard models from the A:M CD. It was supposed to be shown during a service about overcoming fear. However, when we previewed it on the big screen in the church, there was a very little girl in the audience who ran out screaming when she saw the knight running...so it did not get shown that day. Hopefully it'll appear at another time. Not the greatest synching in the world, I know, animation wise, but I sort of like it... I also have it out on YouTube at: if you prefer to watch it there.ScaryDream.mov

Hello... I'm wondering if there's another tutorial somewhere that would be a good replacement for the giraffe tutorial in the AOA:M manual? Reason is, I'm getting a head-ache trying to discern, from the side view, where the leg on the "far side" ends and the one I'm supposed to be tracing starts.. it's all sorta just combined together.. Also, the tutorial sorta leaves out what I think is an important detail.. It instructs you to shape the neck from the top - but there's nothing really to shape it from. There is the top "seam" decal, but it doesn't have a head and I don't know how large to scale it to to make sure I'm not adjusting things too big or small.. …

Who is the 3D computer animation equivalent Dickens, Edgar Rice Burroughs, or Steven King of our age? It seems those with serial staying power may be able to win that title for a day. Serialization has been a particularly capapable benefactor to creators of literature, film, comics, cartoons, and animation and other media over the past two centuries. No time to be idle: the serial novel and popular imagination, by Shawn Crawford (1998), is an article I propose may give a little insight into how modern day storytellers can control the passage of time and distribute animation through the internet to reach their intended audience. Its a historical look back t…

Hi, I own a bar in NYC (www.thefatblackpussycat.com). We have a logo that I think is perfect to be animated, but I don't have the time (or talent) to do it. I used to use lightwave with a video toaster years ago, and did some simple anims, but I think this is over my head. Is there anyone out there who would like to take on a small project (for pay of course). I've attached a jpg of the logo. The original is a vector image in Illustrator (if that helps) Please contact me at NDworman@ix.netcom.com

Hi Hashers and Spline-folk, I was at a loss when it came to coming up with an idea to animate, so I just wrote some action words on pieces of paper and put them in a can, then blindly picked out three. Words for basic actions in threes almost make a nice little scene. (Hopefully, the words you pick will align in context like mine.) It's a good way to flex your animation muscles, by playing this game with yourself. Well, have fun! Afraid21Lg.mov
