Trying something I usually don't do and that is modeling. I am posting a wireframe and shaded wireframe to help with my questions. This model will be animated and I was wondering if the normal rigs will work when there are no hand or mainly feet. And any potential trouble with the model ..I noticed that the arms could use another ring or two of splines....There will be no mouth only implied by the bouncing of the nose. And I have to add a tail. The skirt will be cloth. [attachmentid=18162] [attachmentid=18163] Thanks Johnl3d

Hello peoples! I have just finished Keystones (Keystone Online Highschool Home Page) AM course. I am just waiting for my last grade. So I thought I would show you what sort of stuff this course has you go through. No videos though. Most are AVI and too big for the forum and my comp won't render MOVs. Most images are frame captures from the animation. The course has all animations on VGA format. Onward! Assignment 1: Introduction and spheres The course assumes that the student has never touched AM. I had some experience so these first couple of projects were a breeze. This one introduces the splines, texturing, scaling, and the chor window. The m…

Hello! I have yet another idea that popped into my head. I got this idea when I was sorting through some photos I took while I was on vacation (About 1500 of them ). The images that sparked it were: 50mm f/1.8 119 second exposure, Canon Rebel XT Panarama of 7 photos at 50mm perspective When I looked at these I though, Hey why not make that in A:M So here is where I am at: 15min3x3pass 768x1024px The giant monolithic rock is basic a simple extruded model with some eXtreme displacement mapping. I originally modeled it in A:M and opened it in zBrush to sculpt in the details, but I could not figure out for the life of me how to get UVs that …

I need to model some accurate head models, and photo rotoscopes were ok, but too hard, boring and hit and miss. So I thought of trying the old projected grid approach. Using an old overhead projector, I projected a grid onto the face of my model at 45 degrees, took a digital photo front on and side on. Using the resultant photos as rotoscopes, the grides lined up accurately and the cps are easily placed in xy space. Just like drawing with a grid.

Hi, I own a bar in NYC (www.thefatblackpussycat.com). We have a logo that I think is perfect to be animated, but I don't have the time (or talent) to do it. I used to use lightwave with a video toaster years ago, and did some simple anims, but I think this is over my head. Is there anyone out there who would like to take on a small project (for pay of course). I've attached a jpg of the logo. The original is a vector image in Illustrator (if that helps) Please contact me at NDworman@ix.netcom.com

I've got a problem with a rendering... hopfully someone knows the artifacts and can tell me why they are happening. I am rendering a image of a christmas tree ball. So I took another road: Now it uses a lighteningtechnique quite similar to yves skylight-rig (so many lights placed in a sphere around my object. I am although using a reflectionmap (using a material) and more important a boolean cutter. As you can see, in the sphere, there are the artifacts (and if you look very precisly although at the left top of the ball itself. Any ideas how to get them away? Thanks in advance *Fuchur*

Something trivial I'm sure, but how do you make a bulb or any other self-illuminated object give off a nice glow? The pic has the KeyLight on set to 21% with the FillLight turned off. One new light (set to "bulb") is placed in the center of the bulb model with volumetrics On and intensity turned to 100%. The glow shows nicely on the floor, but the 80% transparent "bulb" model isn't illuminated at all. Am I missing something (obviously), or is it not possible to make a light source shine from the center of an transparent object/model and illuminate the object as well as the surroundings? Please help me shine some light on the subject Gotta get out m…

There may already be a way to do this but if no one has posted anything yet.... Here's a way to switch between camera shots, angles, rotations etc... just using one camera, during one render. I've included the project file so you can pick at it. 1. Set the camera's "Interpolation Method" to "HOLD". 2. Move the camera to a different point in time. 3. Now the camera will quickly switch from one view to the next. camera_switch.zip

Hi, I just wanted to drop a quick note about a short film production I'm currently working on with a buddy (I'm waiting on a render). The film is called "Lost Hallway". I'm handling CG and compositing for it. It's a very green-screen heavy job with a very tight deadline. I'm using Animation Master 15 for the CGI and Eyeon Vision for keying and compositing. The pipeline is Sony HD video camera at 60i to Avid, then export of each shot to individual TIFF files, which are then scaled down by Vision to make rotoscope images for loading into AM15. Modeling and rendering is done in AM, and animated to match the actresses (we used green screen tracking markers to get re…

Hi all. Ive just started work on a simple boat to keep me busy with A:M. Any comments, critisims etc will be appreciated and ill post up more progress. Im hoping to finish up with a good scene of the boat on water (like a lake or something) with some land in the background. Expect some questions along the way My texturing isn't great and i haven't made any landscape before. Anyway, heres the very simple model so far, no textures and still needs some (mabe a lot of )tweaking. I will be adding more detail later on. It's not much at the moment but i think i might be able to make it into a quite good scene.

I have kept up-to-date with my blog and modeling 30 household objects (6 so far) but now I have added animations as well with the aim of 30 animations. After 3 animations I am really pleased with the progress, of course it is not wonderful or awe inspiring but I am moving in the right direction and moreover my 3rd animation gave me a sense of achievement as I was able to do everything I wanted in A:M because I had spent the time gaining the knowledge on how to do it. anyhow if you follow the link at the bottom and select the animation page you can see the progress. As usual the blog etc. is up-to-date.

Since I am working overtime on my "real" job, I don't have time for serious animation projects these days. So I thought I'd try a simple project to teach myself a bit about compositing in AM. I have some video footage shot out the passenger window of my car and thought I might composite this with a flying Shaggy, as though he were flying along side the car like Superman. Simple animation project that could be done in the course of a day or so. The attached image shows how simple the green screen setup is. I've created a simple green screen behind Shaggy and will animate him bobbing and weaving in the air as though he were flying. Then I'll composite this with th…

Here is a project file and VERY quick model to show that you can always model when you don't have a more elegant way to figure something out. From what I recall, shock waves decay out of the exhaust and that's why you get that's the bright diamond pattern. Set glow, roughness and transparency. Cheers, Eugene and the project file. E

I took a break from rigging Kong to work on another great ape. Avalanche Software donated the orangutan model to the extra DVD (and other models), but it had no hair material. So far this is what I have. I haven't done any grooming yet. Any "grooming" look you see is through the dynamic settings. Still need to adjust the length and density in areas and adjust the hair group. I'll probably never get it to look as good as Avalanche, but I'll certainly try. There's also a monkey which I may do as well. I don't know if I'll rerig him, but he's in desperate need of a hand gizmo.

Right, I couldn't resist posting this critter - it's a long while since I modeled a creature in AM and I am trying out the OSX version of AM. So far so good. This chap will be appearing, once finished, in my Bella Bear stories and replace the original alien that I nicked from the Hash CD. I kinda made him look a bit like Alf since I thought it might be fun to make him distant cousin… Anyway any comments or suggestions welcome. Oh, and please ignore the leery material - I am not using that I just wanted to try the materials under AM for OSX

I have gotten to the point of animating the water map as per tut, but only get a couple of seconds of choppy movement on the displacement map, not the smooth rolling motion in the tutorial clip. The tut is written with v.10 in mind and does not translate exactly into v.11. I am missing something, somewhere and can't figure out what. Can someone please help me figure this out? I was able to do it once, but am unable to repeat it. Help. I'm going to upload what I have in the WIP section. If anyone can look at my file and get it to work, I'd be ecstatic. Eric Water_Tut.prj

Well, here goes my attempt to actually post something, hopefully it works. This guy started out as just a very simple attempt at organic modeling. He's really simple, and some people will notice I borrowed ideas from the "Killer Bean" character. I was just trying to make an egg have arms and legs as a way to practice using 5 point patching. He just kept evolving. The sunglasses were an attempt to make eyes, which I screwed up, and then realized my mistake would make really neat sunglasses so I just went with it. I figure he'd make a great bad-ass super hero, in world populated with egg people, and his only weapon would be a sledge hammer.

I was getting ready to model the hands on this character. I needed some extra desk space to write a note and I slipped the keyboard in between the monitor and the computer tower. It was a snug fit and some keys got rattled. Suddenly the model was all angles. I am suspecting that this is just a matter of how the screen renders, and that I have not changed the geometry of the model. Anyone out there have a suggestion on restoring it? Thanks...

Hi I posted this in the game development forum, but A few people thought it fit better here. We have completed a game called Super Slam Ball, you can download a demo here Super Slam Ball Demo Also visit the web site at Super Slam Ball web site from there you can see screen shots, a movie trailer, and also find other info, as well as the demo. The game was modeled and all textures were prelit using A:M. It is a revamped version of an old arcade classic. Try the Demo and see what you think. In the full version there are five levels, plus a hidden bonus level, 16 unique balls, with the ability to jump, and steer, plus one hidden bonus ball. There are also three diff…

Roses are red - another lipsync to some music. The problem is I have an avi-file as a background on a layer. The avi-file has some roses flying up. The avi-file is 1 second. And I want to repeat it - loop it - but how to do it - I can not figure out... I have made a keyframe in the Choreography for the layer with the avi - file and in the timeline I am choosing for that keyframe: Curve > Post-Extrapolation Method > Repeat But the avi-file will not repeat - will not loop!!! What am I doing wrong? Or is there some other method to get an avi-file to loop?

I'm not going to say it's anything special, but it sure as hell is fun. I was playing around with it at work (shh don't tell my boss) and here is something I came up with. Tried to go for a eerie flourescant look. Ambient Occlusion is using a greenish color with a light blue klieg light focusing on the subject. The room is not really a room, but more like two intersecting planes.

As the Pleistocene was ending, and just before the Apple II hit the market, [c.1970] I had moved to San Francisco. Being a graphic designer with fair-to-middlin’ design skills, but little drawing ability, I became enthralled by the idiosyncratic styles of the underground comic artists. Somewhere inside me, a voice said ‘you can do this’. It took a while, but I eventually put out two issues of “Four-Fisted Talesâ€. [just as the underground days were ending] After Issue#1, I posted notices at local comics stores looking for artists to back me on Issue#2. Thus I met Norm Silveira. As we rubbed along building Issue#2, it became clear that we each focused on different …

HEY. I needed a good AM baseball recently and couldn't find one, so I made one! A baseball is a mathematical nightmare, and I wanted raised seems and stitches for extreme closeups- so I modelled it stitch by stitch like a the haitians would. When I was done, I had me a real good model that looked great in a TV commercial, and I thought that I need to build a library of Hi-Res sporting goods. So in my free time I've been putting a few hours into that task and thought I would fly it by ya'll. The basketball uses the Hash Basketball Material, yes, but I improved on the 'pebbling' of the pigskin. I hope to add a few more objects and then donate to a free A:M …

Here's something I've been working on for quite awhile, in my downtime. Still left to do is texturing (the hard, almost-black rubber and plastic of the mask) I have to finish the "eyes" (right now they're just flat panels with the pics decaled, which is pretty close to the final product, except the eye pics are going to be on torn pieces of paper instead of flat patches). I'll need to tweak the refractive properties of the glass in the eyepieces. Also, the lights, which are just kinda thrown inside the mask for these renders, will become permanent parts of the model. There will be a volumetric "lamp" inside the mask which will backlight the translucen…
