I don't post much of my work, mostly because I'm not very productive, but here is a character I am working on. He will be chased by another character in a 10 second video I want to put in front of my DVD of my daughter's middle school production of "Guys and Dolls". This guy represents the gamblers (I'm assuming that is obvious). I welcome all comments and criticisms. I have rigged him and teested him with a couple of actions and he looks OK. Thanks in advance, Scott Dice_Front0.tga

I was using Yves Skylight rig to light a character and it did such a fantastic job that I tried it on a vehicle of mine in a virtual studio-- here is the result. Let me know what you guys think...

I dug up an old shot from a project that eventually moved production overseas. It was only half finished but I liked where it was going (though the director disagreed). Anyway, I wanted to take it to completion. It'll give me a chance to get up to speed on the post 8.5 interface since the last big production I worked on (Day Off the Dead) was all 8.5. I figure I'll document the improvements as I go here. Any and all suggestions, no matter how brutal are welcome. Here's where it was left in Dec. 1999: shot40c (1.81MB QuickTime)

Hey folks, I'm a medical student at Case Western and after suffering through a neuroanatomy course at the beginning of this school year a programmer classmate and I decided to change the way the course was taught. For those of you lucky enough to have avoided this subject throughout your lives, a med school neuroanatomy course focuses on the spinal cord and brain locations of various groups of nerves that are functionally related. One of the big challenges is learning the clinical consequences of damage to these groups and how those consequences can change depending on where in the brain/brainstem/spine the damage occurs. Right now, the way the course is taught…

Hey- I needed a baseball for a 'Pass the Ball' movie, and had an idea of how to make a quick-cool ball, it turned-out really cool and I thought I'd run it past you guys for hoots- 1st- the ball part is obviously just a lathed sphere, with a little bump added. 2nd I made a 'stitch' and copied and-pasted it 100 times so I had 100 stitches in a straight line. 3rd I made the 'path' which winds around the ball tightly, kinda tricky but not too hard. Then in bones mode I made 1 bone for the ball and 1 bone (each) for the 100 stitches. Auto assign points helped big in assigning the points to the 100 bones. Then came the constraints. In a new pose (ON/OFF) I gave …

Sooo... It's been a looong time since I posted a WIP here, so here goes: I've been working on theese two logos the last week. One is for a CounterStrike(a PC game) MOVIE and one is for a CounterStrike CLAN. And since I'm such a nice guy, I don't charge a buck (ok so maybe that has something to do with my current insufficiant amount of skill with A:M, but I like the "nice guy"-stuff better). Anyways, here's the Movie Logo or intro or signature or whatever: (btw, I tried to but the camera in a certain angle so that adult contenet would be as non-visible as possible. What can I say? The guy likes his ladies.) There's suppose to float an E down on the desk, bl…

I know this is not that good, animation-wise, but I'm learning a lot about A:M by working on this. I build a scene, render it, change something, render it again, add some different materials, render it again, etc... and I'm trying to learn more about about compositing and all that that entails. So it's a good exercise for me. Here's the link to the film: http://www.irish-studios.com/F4andTieFighterMovie.wmv I thought I'd post this just for the heck of it. The audio needs a lot of work, especially the dialogue as it's almost indecipherable unless you know what it says. But if you're interested, the dialogue goes: "Houston, this is Su…

I thought I'd try and finish a model I started awhile ago. And would like some feedback and suggestions. I got this far on the model last night, but I'm not very happy about the fingers. Possibly cylinders for the digits. I'm probably going to replace the chrome bits with the PowerBook material I made. The beige parts of the Larry 3000 were done using a biege (obviously) version of that mat. Anyhow, on to the image.

I was experimenting with distortion boxes today, and I realized there is an older trick that I had never tried before. so I tried it! I scaled a parent bone and put it in a pose slider, and then I could control squash and stretch very easily. The only distortion box I used was one around the "nose" of the green character. Thre rest of the squash and stretch is done by scaling bones with pose sliders or just plain scaling them in the chor. What fun! My next project is going to have squishies!!! matt The file is a DIVX. sorry Apple users GooberJump.avi

This is a bot I modeled based on a friend of mine's illustration. You can see the original drawing here. Considering that I did it only from that drawing I'm pretty pleased with the way it's turning out. I still have a little more shading to do but I hope you like.

I'm still really new to Animation Master, but so far, I've gotta say it's a really really fun program. I haven't posted anything in this forum yet, but I've just been messing around with various things, trying to learn my way around, and here's some of the stuff I've come up with. Let me know what ya think. I mainly did this to test the limits of my computer, and boy, did it struggle towards the end. It's a menger sponge, which are pretty nifty, with a depth of three. http://darklemur.com/menger3.jpg Recently I tried modeling some K'nex pieces that I found in the basement, and then I followed some instructions and build some variety of flying dealie. It's …

This is an improved, higher resolution version of my 2nd place winning entry for the July 2004 Sci-Fi/Fantasy image contest. The original version can be seen here on A:M Stills. I've tried rendering this scene in both A:M version 11.1i and 12.0e. The rendering done in 12.0e, shown in this post, has much better quality image maps, but it took me over three hours to render it in 12.0e as opposed to 22 minutes in 11.1i. Can anything be done about that?

Way back when I picked up a SNES controller and beat the crap out of Andross and his minions to save the galaxy. The music was rocking, the shoot-em up was excellent, and the original game is still fun for me to play even to this day. So once I got my footing in Animation Master, I knew I just HAD to recreate the Arwings in full 3DCG glory. Each piece of the image was rendered separately and merged together in photoshop later. The final output is below. The only thing I can think of to make the models better is to figure out a way to get a light source to produce a lense flare while inside a polygon form to create an actual light, and not just …

Muscle-man type. A bit of a brute. Most of the detail I've worked on is in his face. The rest of him will (hopefully) get it's detail from texturing rather than modeling parts of his costume.

This helmet model, Helmet Fly-by (Windows Media, 851 KB) Helmet Fly-by (QuickTime, 1.12 MB) goes with the inline speed skate: http://www.civicreflections.com/SkateFlyBy_QT.mov (1.2 MB.) I'm having trouble getting a compression setting that doesn't mess up fast motion in QuickTime-I've given up for now. Guess I can't put off much longer the part between the helmet and the skates. I just threw this guy together today based loosly on some drawings that a friend of mine did. I'm sure he'll go through a couple of revisions. I know I need to give him some arms and a way to get around. Plus I need to seriously texture him, but it's a start.

So, out of both a personal desire to a 6x6 ATV (c'mon, we all want a Banana Buggy!), and needing one for a client's website (they sell these, but the manufacturer has no 3D models of these), I decided to give it a whack in AM. Still need to add details (pedal, controls, seat, headlights and taillights, gas cap, gauges, rollbar-c'mon sweeper for Mac!), but thought I'd post what I have so far. Comments, crits welcome. Greg

Hi Fellow A:M users, I have another model I'm working on, which is based on a real life guy. A few months ago, I found out about this Kiss-Like Japanese Metal/Rock band called Seikima-II (Disbanded 1999). I really liked the band and descided to do a 3D model on lead singer Demon Kogure. here are some images. I have to work on the hair later. His hair is suppose to be spikey. I was thinking of using hair particles, but found it too difficult to control. I'm going to try to texture the hair instead. The armor still needs work. Not sure this is what was asked but I like the effect. Uses a grid with a animated displacement material applied with a little refraction. The hair is not on because it seems to be acting strangely in this version v12k and it sped up the render [attachmentid=10166] oh an here's the project but the decals for schlitzy are not included but on the cd [attachmentid=10167] actually the screen is begin to look the same must be getting late was going to mention the actiing is a bit too fast but that can be tweaked aniother thing the displacement/refraction could be on a slider and then if need the distortion could decrease and focus would r…

Here's a rather simple and sort of boring little still from my new film. The only "real" thing in this image is the puppets... the rest is CG. Does it look alright to you all. I'm pretty satisfied with it. Just like to get some thoughts. (I have to go back in post and erase those nasty green halos off of my little guys) Thanks, Justin

Hello all. This may be the first time I've posted a still image in "Showcase." Takes a lot less time to render than an animation... I was in a community theater of production of "Dracula" (closes tonight, in fact) and as a gift for the cast and crew, I was going to make a parody animation. Well, I only got the idea a week before closing and that's a quick turnaround time even for me, so I elected to make them a movie poster instead, with the promise of a movie to come. Anyway, the poster turned out pretty well, I think, so here it is.

After going to the Dan Holtz's Race Experience, I decided that I would model the Mesa Marin track. one reason is because I almost broke the track record in a car with only half the horse power. The other reason is the track is scheduled for destruction this month. So I decided I would carry on the legacy. I need some help with some things, first I rotated the straights at 7 degrees, and the corners at 18 degrees, that is what the track has, but it looks like it is way more angled than that. When you use the rotate manipulator, and input a number, is that the actual real world degree, or is it different on this program? Any who, here is the still of what I hav…

Hi Hashers Well after a two months of waiting the waiting is over, sadly I didn't make it to 'The Finalists' sob, sob... Still I did put this flick together rather quickly and I spent only six weeks of spare time on it but the other entries were very good. Here's the link: BBC New Animator BUT! Undettered I will now start work on my next project, which will hopefully have more of a story line and be more entertaining. For those of you that are interested here is my entry. It is 25mb big and you'll need quicktime to view it - enjoy! Bella Bear goes flower sniffin'
