I've just created a new gallery of astronomical art on A:M Stills with renderings of all EIGHT planets. (I've been working on these for the last few years, before the whole Pluto debate got started. I didn't include Pluto because any textures would be fictional until New Horizons arrives there in nine years' time.) Since I'm not trying to make a scale model of the Solar System, each planet and its system of satellites is a separate choreography modeled at a scale of 1/1 million (1 meter = 1000 kilometers). Here are some samples: I'm putting these renders up now because I've recently figured out some methods for using the Planet Glow shader effectively…

Well in the last month my computer crashed and my internet got turned off so I haven't really been able to finish up any of the other stuff I was working on. Here is one I think I'm just about done with. Its late and I haven't copied/flipped/attached it yet but you get the idea. I'm just lookin for crits. Is there anything you see that bugs you or does not look right? Thanks.

QT - Sorenson3 - 1.3mb I realised that I'd done some alterations to this piece (under the great advice of Mr J Barrett) and hadn't posted the final version. It's been sitting on my hard drive, neglected and alone for a month or two, and seeing as it's a finished piece, I thought that I'd post it in here. (The version posted on this forum and elsewhere is different to this one). The alterations are fairly minor, but definately add up to a much stronger little scene. They mainly relate to arcs, and carrying an action through more. I'm a sucker for details. I learnt a heck of alot from this one.

A new character I modeled yesterday. I was looking to make a simple low patch count bird that would be easy to squash and stretch. This is a little test I made to check out the rig (small download 930kb) http://www.5000hp.com/animations/bird.mov Thanks David

W.I.P. I showed this model (actually pictures of this model) to the attendees of the most recent MAAM user group meeting in Philadelphia PA. I did not have the wire frames to show at the time so I have posted them here today. I have been trying to settle on the overall look of my project and I am leaning towards an toon-lined/ semi-realistic style. This is still a WIP. I have yet to complete a number of things with this model that I intend to complete. Such as: Costume changes. Adding hair to the model. Finishing the rigging and smart skinning of the model. Applying textures to the model. Any questions, comments, and/ or constru…

Ok..this is getting really frusturating. I'm creating a set of teeth following the tuturial of "baby face", by Colin Freeman (see link below) I'm at the part when I delete half of the gums and all of this weird spline "web" shows up. (screenshot below). Link: http://www.colins-loft.net/CoopMouth.html (scroll down to the teeth part) I'm thinking it's when I create the gum...the tuturial says "Make sure you draw this at the height of the gum not the low point." I don't know what that means so I just tried to copy the pic...also, I can't tell if I'm supposed to connect that gum to the the tooth, or what! Help me please. Thanks in advance

Wasn't sure if people visit my small section of the forum. I tend to get... weird over there. However this thread is very safe and unpolitical . Yes, I'm tooting my own horn. We all like external gratification. (It's probably statements like that that scare people away from the Verns's World forum. ) I just added a new test of the stage crash on the last post. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=260577 I plan to have this short animation done in time for the NYCC (NY ComicCon) which Hash will be attending. I will be there myself most likely with some members of the MAAM group on Sat the 7th. I am plowing ahead full steam on this and will…

A clouple of weeks ago I posted the head for this model. I was having serious probs. trying to figure out the spline arrangement. Thanks to the input (specially Jim's), I'm almost done with the modelling part. Or at least, I think I am. Any how, I just want to let you guys in on the progress. And as always your comments are welcomed.

The subject for this Wednesday's Animation Showdown was "CHOP! Animate your character chopping down a tree or door or anything else that needs to be chopped to pieces!" Here's what I came up with in 3-4 hours of work. (I since re-lit and re-rendered, but the animation is identical.) Comments welcome! The movie is Sorenson 3, 4 seconds long and 423K. Zach Chop2.mov

Here's a progress video of the character in my avatar which I'm making for a project I'm working on. The head in the first frame is from a character I made previously so, this character grew out of that one. There aren't as many steps as I'd like but it's all the models I have. The original concept was inspired by a sketch. testbrat.wmv

It needs work. This may be the hardest thing I've done to date. I downloaded the "fixed" Shaggy, but I had a lot of problems with the hands slipping and popping, probably due to pulling beyond his arm's reach. One thing I accomplished here is getting a character off a path and animating it further without disturbing the previous action. Yay! It needs a lot of work, and it's not even really finished, but here it it: The Door's Stuck 960KB Quicktime, Sorenson 3. Comments welcome!

Well it has not even been a week since I got my software . After some fuss and a needed update, i started to jump into modeling. I have learned a lot and I have almost memorized the keyboard shorcuts and it really has made my workflow really fly. I feel proud of myself, and now I would show off a work that just sparked an idea in my head. Voila! A light*cough*saber*cough*..blade..excuse me, had something in my throat. [attachmentid=15843]

Greetings! Well, I finally stepped away from my mechanical modeling background and took a stab at the Katakata tutorial for making an anime head - this one is Takahashi's onnaRanma from Ranma 1/2. I'm posting it here for feedback - this is the first attempt at a non-mechanical mesh I've done in A:M, so feedback and useful pointers are more than welcome. My initial thought is that I'm probably a little spline-heavy (typical Shurtleff-style overkill in action yet again). I had a bit of a problem with creasing to start, but I think I've managed to get rid of most of it. One major compromise I've made in trying to implement Takahashi's style is with the eyes. …

I'm doing a work project creating a series of stills showing a glass lab beaker half-filled with water, then adding white powder, then the water being stirred and becoming slowly clearer. I was looking in the libraries on my Mac's A:M over the weekend and there were maybe six glass materials, but when I started work at my office pc this morning, there are only three glass materials in the library, Fake Glass MR, Liquid Glass MR and Perspex MR. the assignment is tricky because at most points in the process everything needs to be transparent. I'm going to composite a toon line for definition of the beaker but I wonder if someone can make a good recommendation fo…

I was reading the thread in the WIP area about the Obama model and the section relating to inverted normals causing blackened sections when Porcelain was applied. It rang a bell with regards to a problem I had encountered, so I thought I would try to correct it. Here is the model with the normals showing and, they seem to be correctly displayed ? But this is what happens when I do a quick render. Might it be caused by another factor ? Also. The original colour was yellow and the porcelain has made it go white, over riding the original surface setting. Is that a common thing ? regards Simon V15J Mac OSX 10:68

Here is little something I found out looking through my hard drive. For obvious reasons his name is Mikke Musse This is 30's version of the character that I really like, except for the eyes whish have lids... This character was made as modeling and constraining exercise, He has old rig inside him, and dos not have phonemes or other muscle poses, you will have to pull the constraints slider to constrain him... I Hope that you'll like Mike I would be very glad to see if anyone comes out with something funny and cute with him, and if someone decides to pop in TSM 2 rig inside, I wouldn't mind to have it for playing. Here it is (MDL) Drvarc…

Foliage is always one of those things that takes time. Fur works great but takes forever, however thanks to the team at hash adding the options for cookie cut decals to cast shadows there is a faster option. Here are a couple of tests. Rendering time was about 20 seconds a frame, with all the detail supplied by cookie cut flat planes and zbufffered lights. leaftest.mov leafBilboard.mov

For a re-make of a character picture portfolio I made years ago, which is being redone in full 3D, I am required to re-create the car that she owns. However according to her story she owns a Slimbikini Miablo VS, which would be a complete take-off of a Lambourgini Diablo. However, I decided to create a car design that would be unique, while still borrowing some of the design ideas of the Diablo. And because of my usual "Must document everything" nature, I still have every single render I created for this vehicle, and I thought it would be something to share. First of all, the original image from the Portfolio: http://members.shaw.ca/nekosei/others/Picture3…

I have attached a file of a short scene rendered in 'Final' output. The 'shag emitter' used to simulate grass displays unwanted changes in the background during the animation (beginning on 2nd frame, and then again at about 2 1/2 seconds in). This anamoly does not appear when rendering in 'shaded' mode. Could the problem be that 'dynamics' is defaulted to "on" in the 'shag emitter'? I'd like some advice before rendering again - this 3 second shot took 17 hours to render at HDTV 1080 resolution. Which brings me to my next question. What is the recommended rendering resolution to bring my targa files into Adobe Premiere 2 for compiling. My intended output will be DVD…

Hi all, Did some more testing on my working-pipeline with my cartoony cokebottle Vette. 15h on PC ,1024x576 - 200 frames about 8 minutes each frame rendertime, 5 passes, shadows, reflections (ground 4%), matcap shader on the Vettes body, chrome mat on chrome parts, apple matcap on interior parts, fake rimlight mat on the whole model, threepointlighting of defaultchor, keylight 55% and Gloabl Ambiance type Global color white at 30 %. the model is "waterproofed" (thick doublesided bodyparts) because I inserted volumetric lights in it. One major drawback: Cant see the posesliders effects in realtime while I set the keyframes, though they are there when I…

In the spirit of coming clean with respect to "Intellectual Property" I would like to share the evolutionary history of Cow-A-Johnga as starring in "Fun with Cows" posted in this thread: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&am...st&p=189202 Originally I was just going to say something like: In the beginning Ricky the Rat begat MuthaNaycha begat Cow-A-Johnga. But then I realized - OMG - the "borrowing" of genetic code was way more sinister than that. My motivation was to get this project done ASAP - which clearly meant I had to steal. So of course the first waste of time was to spend 2 weeks trying to figure out how to save time. …

I've gotten a request for my script to split muscle poses into left and right sub-poses, as suggested by Jason Osipa in his "Stop Staring" book. The script was previously mentioned in these threads: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7595 http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4436 You'll need a Perl interpreter to run this. Basic instructions are attached, let me know if you have any problems. I've tested it with versions 10.5 and 11.1, on a PC. In theory it should work with Mac Perl as well. Hi fellow hashers, I have included a very low quality render ( 2 passes ) of the new hash vac. The animation was done entirely with the newton plugin by using various fans of positive and negative magnitude ( suck and blow ) to move the caveman through the vac. I have attached a green light to the caveman model so you can follow his path through the vac. Like I said low budget render but hope you enjoy and a big...huge thankyou to Steffen Gross. Look out Hoover , Hash is king! and in the vortex house there is another low quality scud render of the vortex force and newton - its twister all over again! newton_vac.mov vortex_house.mov
