Hi. I'm quite new to these boards, although I have been meddling with A:M since I first got it back in 1998. Having never been able to draw or otherwise articulate my visual sense of artistry (or lack of same) it was manna from heaven. This female head is the latest of my attempts and is mainly designed to experiment with animation of facial expressions. Ken Baer encourages us to post our work, and I gladly listen to any critique and suggestions this generous and kind forum has to offer. Peter

I'm working on some 3d female templates, I've been working on it off an on for a while but I'm still not happy with what i have (still much better than what I had before) I'd appreciate it if i got some suggestions as to what to do with the model http://emar0.angeltowns.com/misc/femaleNX53.mdl the hips or the thighs here seem to be too large for the torso, I'm afraid of trying to warp or distort the proportions of the model. I fear if i tried to do that I would end up destroying it in some other way the breasts are curving downwards like this when they should be curving upwards like this and the feet look really really wierd m…

Hello! This is my first post. I thought I needed some motivation because I've been very unmotivated lately. Alas I am forced to show my unfinished model. I want the good people of Hash users to comment on the model as I may not realize the flaws of my work because I have never shown it to anyone. You have to excuse the texture because the bump mapping isn't finalized yet. Also it hasn't been lighted yet. It's just s render preview from an Action window. Any constructive comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. By the way,I am using AM 8.0. here's a preview: Preview

[attachmentid=17093] This looks plain because of no textures. But you should get the idea? At least 95% finished. Also another to ADD towards the Extras DVD if desired. By the way..... Rodney..... I have these 3 newer models: G_Loader Gun/Corridor and this Fence Enclosure. Should I send them for the Extras DVD? Heres an Update. May not seem like much, but the single piece that goes to the Right Angle is detachable to expand the enclosure to any number in length. I also varied the Fence Rails height for more interest. This is my latest WIP. I'll post the actual render when I'm satisfied with the lighting and details, but thought I'd share this version with a PS2 Neon filter applied. It's currently my Desktop.

This was a project I did for school but I never finished fine tuning the lights. I used radiosity but I feel I never got the full use of all the settings. Any comments would be a great help.

I actually modeled these about a month ago, but with getting involved in TWO, I really put thes aside to work on the film and other stuff. I still have to decal the shutle cockpit, but for the most part am pretty happy with how these came out. I would love to go back and remodel each piece with beveled edges and maybe someday I will, but for now here they are: ARC-170 Fighter Imperial Shuttle TIE Intercepter X-wing As usual crits and comments are welcome. They do seem like they are floating above the ground plane, but they are really sitting on it.

Ok, so I was playing around with hair yesterday, and I messed up the order of my transparencies, which sparked an idea... Fiber optic hair! Simple, make most the hair transparent, and solid at the tip. Throw in some glow, and viola! I tried it, and my mouth dropped! (What I can use it for, I haven't got a heck of a clue. ) It's probably already been done, but I thought I had to share.

I am working on a fight scene and am wondering how you guys might do this? How do you set it up so that they're in unison fighting eachother but not on the same model? How the heck do you animate that!?

Hello everyone. This is a fight scene that I'm working on for my demo reel. It's pretty short at the moment, but I'll do more as I'm able. I'm thinking that this sort of style would be good for getting in with a gaming company, but I'm not sure how to overcome the software barrier, as I am a long time Hash user, and don't really know other programs. Anyone out there doing video games, and have suggestions? Thanks! fight.mov

Hi all, I remember a while ago some people mentioned a simplified figure drawing book (for people like me who can't draw detailed figures yet). I visited the website once and can't remember it now. It shows how to draw "fancy" stick figures for storyboarding purposes. Does anyone remember it? I think you buy the book direct from somewhere in northern CA if that helps. Thanks

It took a while to figure this out, but I finally modelled a reasonably smooth, human looking head. The technique is fairly simple, but still takes a lot of tweaking. With practice it will go a lot faster. Comments?

I'm over my head in a big project that is going to generate an enormous number of files and I want to establish some order before I get buried. I'm curious as to how everyone else organizes their files. What kind of naming scheme do you use? How do you handle the different types of assets (models, actions, audio files, decals, materials, etc.)?

Here's a rather simple and sort of boring little still from my new film. The only "real" thing in this image is the puppets... the rest is CG. Does it look alright to you all. I'm pretty satisfied with it. Just like to get some thoughts. (I have to go back in post and erase those nasty green halos off of my little guys) Thanks, Justin

This is a contiuation of a previous post. I would have just carried it on, but I have been unable to access it. This is the completed advert that has just gone off to the publishers. It should be in the states soon, and the UK in a few months. Everything was created in AM except the decal photo's and the text. 2480 x 3508 Larger version will be here for a few days:-Larger Version Image was rendered in three stages, the 3d world was rendered then composited onto the star background. Final adjustment in photoshop.

I had to cheat a little and get this animation done. It's a little rougher than I would have liked, but it still works for what it is. I did use the blobbies in the shutoff segment, and would have liked to use them in other places to describe the fuel flow direction. Even better would probably have been using sprites, but I'm still unclear on how to get them (sprites) to behave properly. Thanks to Johnl3d for all his advice and guidance, and to everyone else who gave me tips. http://hre.com/jhvdigital/videoclips/colorsystem.rm Quicktime format; http://hre.com/jhvdigital/videoclips/pumpanimation.mov

Now that I have finally figured out how to post a picture.....I will post my first true model. I did this some time late last year and have had no time do to much more than troll the boards. However, as luck would have it I just ran across a copy of The Animation:Master 2000 Handbook with the CD still in it at a local used book store (Mckays for Will Sutton and anyone else in or around Chattanooga, TN). It was only $6.00. Even though it is for version 8.0 and I am using 10.5, so many of the things that are in there still apply that I feal like it is Christmas. I get to play with my new toy again and actually have a clue what I am doing. Back to my gun. I did try …

I'm so excited! - I know this is not much by many standards, but the clip below features a model completely created and rigged by me and is my best work so far in A:M. Using Mike Caputo's rigging tutorial from the A.R.M., I managed to accomplish a simple but working animateable rig. Alas, the links to these tutorials are currently dead, but hopefully will be up again soon. If anyone has info on his "FK to IK" arm tutorial, please forward. I've got it working pretty well, but I believe I'm missing a step when constraining the "IK Bicep to Elbow". I am learning simCloth after purchasing the 2005 Siggraph DVD from Hash, Inc. Mark Weller's tutorial is very informati…

may_11_sec_29b_h264_framecounter.mov All major animation is complete. Still needs to be polished.... especially head and eye movements. Most of it is still in linear or stepped, with the body and arms splined. I can still make minor changes, but the major action will stay as is due to short time remaining. My character doesn't have eyebrows and I'm concerned it won't read as well as it should. The eyelids can be sculpted as if they're eyebrows, but I haven't done any of that. The render is very basic. I'd love to try Ambient Occlusion, but don't know if there's time since I don't have a clue about it. I'm curious to see if you all think the co…

I run a lip-sync music video class at my kids elementary school. I wanted to have an opener, or whatever you call them, like Disney's castle or Dream Works boy in the clouds. What is that short studio ID bit called anyway? The school is called Charles Dickens and our team mascot is the Dicken's Dragon, so I made our video logo with a fire breathing dragon. The compression makes it look a bit rough. You can see it here, 1.4 meg, streams well over highspeed: http://www3.telus.net/imagestreamstudio/te...n_logo_full.mov I'd like to tweak it and change it a bit for each video, so any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

So it's been a while since I hunkered down and actually got some work done in A:M. So I spent this weekend playing with particles and materials trying to get a good molten rock effect. so I wound up with this guy. Then seeing as my TSM2 no longer works I watched the video tutorials on setting up the squetch rig. Turned out it was not as bad as I thought. I still have to fix the CP assignments (autoassign mangled it a bit) and figure out the compensate mode adjustments, but I'm making progress. Installing the rig was easier than I expected so a big kudos to everyone who has been working on it. (and I'm looking forward to the action Install and …

Heres a character I've been working on for a while. I wanted to make a character that would be fun to animate, with facial expressions and capable of lipsync. I hope you like it, I also made a small scene today which took a lot longer to make than I expected , tell me what you think and CC is always cool! I have a test of the Fire Kid in the scene, and then I have some quick expressions. Edit** by the way I havent rigged him yet, his facial expressions are with poses. I'm waiting to get TSM2 to rig him I just checked out the pics and it looks like Jask made then a lower quality.. grr, oh well just ignore it I knew I should have taken the extr…

Hello! I have yet another idea that popped into my head. I got this idea when I was sorting through some photos I took while I was on vacation (About 1500 of them ). The images that sparked it were: 50mm f/1.8 119 second exposure, Canon Rebel XT Panarama of 7 photos at 50mm perspective When I looked at these I though, Hey why not make that in A:M So here is where I am at: 15min3x3pass 768x1024px The giant monolithic rock is basic a simple extruded model with some eXtreme displacement mapping. I originally modeled it in A:M and opened it in zBrush to sculpt in the details, but I could not figure out for the life of me how to get UVs that …

I moved this from http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17591&st=40 because it started to take on a life of it's own. Here is the latest render of this WIP. I read a post a while back that mentioned double patches between a light source and an object you want shielded from the light. I did this on the inside of the fireplace, but it still seems to let the light through. Can someone refresh my memory on how to block light to the inside of the chimmney? Comments and critique welcome.
