Hello, I am looking for some models to add to my business portfolio. Ideally I would like to do a trade with an artist at this point. I would mill the foam model out for you for free. Yes you get a copy and I get to show the results in my portfolio. I can discuss further details for those interested. Ideally, I would like to find a great T-Rex, Enterprise model, weapons, a motorcycle(chopper or harley)etc. I can not except every model that is submitted, but I will look and consider all that submit something. To give you of my back ground, I was a digital modeler for Lucas Arts and have produced several sculptures that have gone into production of the years. M…

The Cookie Cutter is a great Idea. And it seems to work MOST OF THE TIME. But here is a case where it just breaks down. I have 1000's of Trees. Where I used rotated cross sections of photos of trees. This produces great looking - fast render. But there are some trees that do not render correctly. They display the Tree Image and black triangles get added randomly to areas that are transparent. When doing Locked Render - It displays good --------- But when doing full render the black triangles show up. It seems to occur as the objects / trees have crossing intersections with other trees. As the Camera moves - the locations where the triangles s…

Hi guys I just want to show a small client project I have been working on. I have not put much work into the texturing and shading since it was not necessary. The model might not be proportionally correct since I only had photos to work with. Let me know what you think Best regards Stian

Here was my entry in the CGTalk A:M caricature contest. I didn't have time to texture him but was wondering if you could tell who he is and tell me what you thought of it. Thanks.

I am working on a simple animation of a hitman-type character. I have the poses worked out and before I go further, I would like to know if they read well enough to understand what is happening. If someone would take a minute to look at the attached animation and let me know if it is clear, I would appreciate it. hitman2a.mov

Howdy All' So I'm working on a project where I need to simulate sand pouring out into a heap on the ground. Do any of you have a good suggestion as to how best to approach this in Hash? It doesn't necessarily have to look ultra realistic. But the more real the better. Any suggestions. I though of using a combination of dust, animated mesh and particles somehow. But I'm not sure how easy that would be. Is it possible to thicken and texture the fluid system in hash to serve this purpose?

Well, for no real reason, I've decided to start building a galaxy class starship. I'm thinking about maybe doing a whole line of star trek vessels and then I don't know what! I know that I am going to use my Galaxy class to play with doing special effects like phasers and shields and warp and etc.

Been playing with the toon shader again, definitely more of a inked comic-book style this time. (Been playing City of Heroes) Tomorrow or the day after I'll update my toon-shading tutorial with how to get this look.

Ok here is my first 3D model. It is a Riser Manifold for a fire sprinkler wet system. Since I work in this field I thought it would be good practice. Each piece was made seperate then atatched to the base unit. It is not quite finished, there are a few more things to do. Ok Back to work[attachmentid=13494]

O.K. Heres something to give an Idea of the possibilities for modifying existing work from OBJ files. These are 2 geometries from the Poser 6 program. These models can be purchased at numerous places on the internet. Mainly DAZ3d. Its important to know that the "descriptions" of the models on any site must INCLUDE "GEOMETRIES", which are in OBJ format. Otherwise you will just get a Poser specific format. But this goes to show that re-inventing the wheel isnt necessary? I dont know if its considered "cheating" or not? It all depends on how extreme the modify is. Considering this fact though: these models when imported reach around 26,000 splines/vertices. Ive managed to wi…

Well This was my quick test to get a feel for A:M. No decals or stuff like that. I just wanted to play with the modeller. Learn how to join parts together etc. I know the edges around the eyes are too harsh but its a learning experience. I know now what not to do etc lol. So about to redo him from scratch but thought I would show it anyway. Cheers Mike R

Hey everyone I am new to this whole experience so I decided to get everyones feed back on my simple image. 1. I would have loved to try to join some of the parts with hook, Some odd reason I wasn't able to hook the images to make it look like it had more flow. So I went with intruding the different parts of the model. 2. I have no clue how to play with the lighting or contrast to make it look better. An tis would be cool. Welp hope everyone likes my simple design remake.

Hi all, I've been continuing my tests with compositing shaded hair and final renders directly in AM - no alpha channels or fancy software needed. Here's the result of my latest process, the TOTAL render time for this 1024*768 image, was 6:30 on my 1.4 gig machine. That's 6 minutes, not hours. This is frame 44 of the test animation which uses dynamics for the hair. I'll post a link to the final VGA animation later. EDIT - Link to VGA dynamic hair video 1.03 megs Quicktime UPDATED to high density hair. Link to full size version of still Phil

My friend and I are totally lazy and we both know it. So we put together a weekly challenge for ourselves. I have to do so many seconds of animation per week, he has to draw 3 full-size comic pages a week for his webcomic. Due mondays, losers buy lunch. Here's what I've got after week one, I'll update each week. (hopefully) Week One - 3.8 meg Quicktime We decided on this late last week, so I had less than a couple days to complete the first part. edit: w00! 200th post!

Hello pros, cons and lurkers, I've been tearing what's left of my hair out trying to decide if my choice(s) for my first short short is/are a good one. I had originally decided on 'Donny' and posted him here in the WIP section. Well, as I have decided to learn rigging in a serious way, and have yet to do any real animation, I think I may not be ready for that short. But, I am itching to do a short and figured ... hey, I have this worm character laying around (get it? laying around?) why not design a short with him in mind. So, this is what I'm thinking. This character let's call him HeWorm for now, wants to walk upright. His wife, let's call her Sh…

Well, it has been a busy quarter, and it was spent mostly building a scale model - no, not a digital one, a real one - of a sort of military interplanetary outpost. In order to utilize the footage shot of the model, I built a digital landscape (the group responsible for the model landscape utterly failed at building it) in a nameless Other Software package that specializes in landscapes. However, just a pretty picture won't do, so I brought a robot model I built in yet another Other Software package into A:M, rigged it, re-textured it, and now it looks ten times better than the original ever did. The animating & rigging is going to be a bit of a challenge, since t…

THUR: Thanks for the comments, they mean a lot, really. Folks here look at it and say..."ooh, the beatles!" I am updating the animation file with a new one that shows all 4 stones...I know I still have some tweeking. I love V11's hair and the ease in which you can 'emulate' a hairstyle quickly. Thru practice, I now consider myself a bit of a 'virtual hairstylist'. Hmmm. Maybe I WILL do the Beatles next...which era??? WED: I wanted to make my next characters to be based off of real personas...with the ultimate goal being to do the 'real' imitating in animation. I plan to make the main character (in the center) have an 'over-elasticized' face in animation. …

Here is a character is that I've been working on for a tiny short. Its a very simple character but I've been using it to try to learn to model and use the hair system. Over the course of the next few days/weeks, I'm hoping to tweak the model some, add a basic skeleton and set of controls, and possibly do an animation test or two in this thread. Suggestions in any area of the process at any time are greatly appreciated, Thanks, --Ross

Hello, I know the title may seem odd, but I think you'll get the joke by the time I finish this post. Being hard-headed and a bit stubborn, I decided to jump ahead in the curriculm and get the modeling basic of the program down so that I could start building the model I wanted. I have gone through the first three lessons, and skipped straight to models. I read through the plane one, then used what I read to start inputing my own model. Here it is todate: Minus a transparent pane on the visible side near the rear. I think the level of detail will need to buffed up, as this only has about 910 patches. From what I've been reading on high detail model…

Ok. testing, testing 1 2 3 4 with this month's 11 second dialog problems I see: 1) rigging, modeling issues with arms, hands 2) lip sync for "yesterday I ate" starting around frame 155 3) hands penetrate around frame 95-96 4) ??? Hey everybody. Whats goin on? I haven't posted much lately, last thing I was doing was working on my "jaguar xk" car but my computer crashed and I lost the file. Kindof a bummer, but I'll get over it. So, I was gettin kinda tired with just modeling and wanted to get to animating. So I made a basic character that'd be pretty easy to animate. Its all rigged and stuff but just with the TSM2 rig (no smartskin or fan bones or nuthin). I figured I'd put it up here for comments and critiques and if you guys want it later I could donate it to the forum or the next CD or somethin. K. Cool. Lemme know what you think. Later-

Hey Everyone! been a while since I posted, so I thought I'd show off my newly polished T. rex skull. I started building this way back when, but I just recently got my hands on a great scale model of one, so I thought I'd try to fix it (you can see an older render of it in my avatar). Some things about the render: The model is just under 4600 patches, and this render uses the cool new radiosity features, so there's just one klieg light in it, and it took just over 30 minutes to render on my 2.3 GHz Athlon64. http://www.dinocarl.com/trexskull.jpg Carl
