I wanted to spiff up an old design of a space ship, so I selected one of mine from when I was in high school ('90 - '94). Unfortunately I lost the original concept sketches, so this is from memory. Fortunately, it started as a very basic design. Here's the start of the design:

During the last couple of weeks I have done some experiments with realistic Ocean Waves in Animation Master. For now there is only one image to watch, but I'm working on a short animation that I hope to be able to show in a day or two. (The image is rendered with the simplest possible environment. No sky sphere, one single sun light and a simple reflecting gradient material.) Click here, for more information on this (The page will be updateted as the "project" evolves.)

If your familiar with the work of J. scott Cambell (Gen 13, Danger Girl) Then hopefully you'll recognize my inspiration for this type of toon render. Wonder Woman was just the first superhero I thought to model (most likely becuase of all the chat about the movies, which is on again off again, then justice league, which is on again off again). Anyway, I'm posting because I was hoping for some feedback (as well as someone to tell me I'm not wasting my time). About the model... everything i learned and applied here came from Demented3D's tutorials.. so props to that genius of a man! Everything is toon renedered and surfaced colored with gradients. The only decals …

Usually it does. But on my laptop, it doesn't. I try to 'paste' into the Paint program, and nothing happens. Does A:M have an internal way of saving screen snapshots?

I did a quick test animation for a car ride. Its just one keyframe at frame 100 and the wheelrotateexpression on. Somehow the ride of the car is all jerky. What may possibly cause this? I have 5% motionblurr and tried 12 ,30 even 60 frame Quicktimesetting, no difference. Where have I to look. Codec is Animation, but its the same, when I render out png frames.... BannerCapCarB.mov

Here is my latest character. Yes, I know...it's just his head. His name is Captain "Lucky" Starz . He is a spaceship pilot. Or soon will be! I haven't decided on a design for the rest of him yet. If anyone has any suggestions, please speak up. What I DO know so far... 1) humanoid body 2) some kinda space getup 3) imagination, imagination, imagination I am still working on some sketches (but I'm really NOT a very good sketch artist) and I will post those as I go.

Hey Rodney So I wonder if you even remember this little projet. You probably already have your own version done by now anyway, but I thought I'd throw mine out there. She's not finished, mind you, but I haven't had time to work on this kind of thing in a looong time. So here you go: [attachmentid=12908][attachmentid=12909] Maybe you can finish up the bits and pieces (armor, rocket boots etc.)Let me know what you think, and I'll mail the .mdl to you. Javier

Hi, guys. It's been a while. 8 month project and not yet over. I've worked with Dr. Eric Drexler to design and animate a nanotechnology device of the future. We are not just making science fiction pictures. This is as real a design as we can make it even though it will be ten years or more before we can build it. Dr. Drexler has three published books in nano and is considered by many to be the father of this industry. He co-founded the Foresight Institute, www.foresight.org The device of this animation is a desktop factory which can take in acetylene, tear it apart and create product from the atoms. I have always been interested in nanotechnology since I read …

Merry Christmas, everyone! I took a shot at creating an animated Christmas card. Wish it'd occurred to me to do it sooner, but somehow I was able to finish it in time. I did have to cheat a bunch (which included using no multi-pass or shadows in rendering and a lot of tomfoolering in Flash and Photoshop.) Anyways, I thought I'd share it with you guys, too! Just started modelling a new character starting with the face and head. The only render to date is the model decaled with the roto rendered in front of the roto. A little bit of a cheat, I know, but I haven't built the eyes, hair or rest of the head as yet - and I have yet to learn how to properly decal a head! Wireframe has been posted as well. http://higginsdj.250free.com/wips.htm Cheers

Well I'm on vacation until January 4th so I decided to start a new character. I want to have a simple-to-animate character that can have a wide range of expression. Kind of like the standard Animation Mentor characters. My ambitious intention is to build a rig for her and use her to get better at the animation side of things. I did add ears and some hair which may be more than needed but here's what I did so far. I'm having a little trouble smoothing the cheeks. It seems anytime there is a five point patch I get a slight crease from some angle. I don't want to use the porcelain material to fix it. I'd rather figure out how to do it with the splines. Righ…

I tried to use some textures and lighting for the first time to achieve a certian style. Here is the result for now. Many things are still bothering me though: -The lightbulb in the standlamp next to the comfychair doesnt seem to work correctly. I made the bulb and the cover transparent but the light is not showing enough still. - the texturemap for the wall are tiled and double applied for bump and colormap. I am not sure , if they show correctly and are properly aligned positioned. -the oak material for the wood works quiet nice, scaled down to 1 % except for the backwall of the big bookcase , where they seem to big scaled somehow. I will tr…

Some of this is guess work as the cockpit is not completely shown in the movie. Still have the overhead panels to complete along with the seats and rear wall section. Once the model is complete, it will be posted in the models section to go along with the Discovery model. Al

Here's a comparison for Nancy, of the before and after images when I use the DreamyPhoto effect Photoshop plugin. It slightly zoom blurs a copy of the image, tints it (in this case a soft red) and adds it back on top at whatever opacity you decide. To me it takes away a lot of the hardness and rawness, while retaining the sharp edges of the original image and not blurring everything. This example is from a 1 pass preliminary render (without AA) so that's why the edges are pretty jagged. I can't find the final render without the DreamyPhoto effect. Grr... I'm sure all of this could be done by someone in A:M Composite. But I had already spent enough time on this i…

Heres the model zipped - instead of posting vague pics of splines. [And I owe you an appology "Mage" because it seemed like you were gripe-ing, (below reply), when it turns out you werent.] h2.zip Well, I was trying to spline off a picture of the Hunter Model. Obviously its gunna take alot more work and understanding. Not much to work with other than a side view as a reference. The Hunter model has such a minimal amout of splines, yet its cleverly done using bias tweaks. And plus theres only a couple hooks, which are hard to figure where they are splined off of? I tried to take snapshots off the Hunter videos of the wireframes, but the quality only gives minimal h…

This is Captain Barnstorm. A new character I created...because I wanted to! He doesn't have a story right now, but I have a few ideas percolating. I'm not entirely done rigging and making poses, but I'm pretty far along. No textures at this point. The next picture is a few characters from a story idea my wife came up with. If I get it finished it will be in storybook form (hopefully!). I'm very happy with the cow, but the horse is giving me trouble, and I just can't make the duck's wings look right. Bird wings that work right, to me, are nearly unattainable in 3d. I just can't get my brain wrapped around them. Any suggestions from bird modelers would be appreciated. …

I haven't been active on the forum for a few years. But I haven't been totally idle. I wrote a Christmas song for children a few years ago and always planned to do an animation for it. It was recorded by my granddaughter Tara just before her 14th birthday. She just turned 17 and is hoping to go into music and drama. So I finally got the animation together in an effort to help kick start her career, even before she finishes high school. You can see the animation on her website at www.taradoyle.com It's the "Santa's Elves Video" page (second button on the left.) Hope I posted in the right area, it's been so long I wasn't sure. Okay, it may not look like much to experienced users but I have spent a lot of time getting here! This is the head of a desmostylus, a prehistoric hippo like creature. I am developing it for a museum project. As you can see, there are no textures applied yet. I am used to a solids modeler where I can use layers or pick an item as a group to isolate components. It seems in AM my only option is to group one section, then lock the rest. this breaks down when I get mutliple parts. Right now I have to work on the lips that meet the lower tusks. In the mouth are inner lips, gums, and the tusks. Trying to find the correct points to move the lips to comform to the tusks with…

Here's something I made really quick after seeing one of the animations on the Maxwell website. The topic is in the OT section, you should check it out. Anyways, it made me want to try to mimic liquid with a:m, this is the best I could do but I'm still playing around with it, I'll post some other things later if I get something cool . All it is is a model of a wineglass with a seperate model for the wine with a seperate bone. The wine tilts with the glass because of the bone, but the surface of the liquid is cloth with gravity turned off and a force to give the surface ripples. Its nothing special but it looks cool, although I wish you could see the ripples better…

I don't know if it's really a Showcase piece, but after finishing the modeling and getting the bones setup and the Smart Skin, I needed to do a simple pose to see how everything is working...so maybe a step up from a WIP? Well, here it is: Rendered in A:M v13f, AO turned on with one Key light and Sky Textured sphere, as an OpenEXR and then motion-blurred in Adobe Photoshop. Size was originally 1400 X 2000 but was cropped in Photoshop. Render time was around 2.5 hours on my Mobile P4 with 2GB RAM. - pjc

This has been giving me fits all night long. I can't get the surface smooth of this simple, yet compound shape - notice the deformations around the cutout. The cutout is giving me all the problems, but I have to have it there. Any suggestions on how to do this? None of the planes are flat and none are directly on the xyz plane. The piece is curved too. The picture doesn't do the shape justice. The shape I am trying to get is very similar to the rounded quarterpanel of a roadster like the AC Cobra. Who is the expert on forming sheetmetal in AM?

In the last week I've been finalizing the Sentinel's posture sitting in the saddle. He carries a rifle across his lap. As Beast rolls/waddles to the left, he compensates by leaning slightly to the right. The problem has been keeping his hands on the rifle while making sure it doesn't penetrate his legs or the computer screen in front of him. I got it smoothed out, but am I correct in thinking that in the Choreography you cannot move the pivot? It would have made life much easier.
