Hey all! Well, this guy isn't completely finished, but man is he close. Modeling, rigging and smart-skinning are all done. I just need make some poses for his hands, a bunch for his face, and... oh yeah, um, texturemap him. I know the showcase is for -finished- stuff, but I really like the color scheme as it is, and decided to try it out. Made something enjoyable, so I brought it into Photoshop and Fireworks and did a bunch of post to it. Thanks for looking! -- Ross

Ok, I'm serious about getting this thing done. Rodney, I'm taking your suggestion, and I'm going to concentrate on just getting the first installment done. Then I'll worry about trying to generate interest, and how the heck I'm going to distribute this thing. (I've got some ideas along those lines though). Here's the basics of the story as it stands so far: Our two main characters for this installment are travelling from Edo (Tokyo) to Satsuma. The journey is going to have 3 -4 legs, and each one could be traversed using a different form of transportion, giving us a good opportunity to show off the steampunk side of the storyline. Our two main characters…

Well, at long last--well, only two days, but that's as long as it took to make the darn thing--our animated entry in the 48 Hour Film Project for Washington, D.C. is available on AMFilms: http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=744 A larger version (640x480, 33MB) is also available: http://www.shipbrook.com/mpegs/DuckSauce.html Just to remind everyone, this was created from start to finish--writing, acting, modeling, animation, rendering, editing, and music--in about 53 straight hours by a team of ten: six people local to D.C. and four others scattered throughout the Internet. We were given a series of elements we had to incorporate (the ge…

I don't know if it's really a Showcase piece, but after finishing the modeling and getting the bones setup and the Smart Skin, I needed to do a simple pose to see how everything is working...so maybe a step up from a WIP? Well, here it is: Rendered in A:M v13f, AO turned on with one Key light and Sky Textured sphere, as an OpenEXR and then motion-blurred in Adobe Photoshop. Size was originally 1400 X 2000 but was cropped in Photoshop. Render time was around 2.5 hours on my Mobile P4 with 2GB RAM. - pjc

In the last week I've been finalizing the Sentinel's posture sitting in the saddle. He carries a rifle across his lap. As Beast rolls/waddles to the left, he compensates by leaning slightly to the right. The problem has been keeping his hands on the rifle while making sure it doesn't penetrate his legs or the computer screen in front of him. I got it smoothed out, but am I correct in thinking that in the Choreography you cannot move the pivot? It would have made life much easier.

Here is a new revision of the mouth creature. http://home.alltel.net/collinsfamily04/walk.avi I like the skin on this one. Thanks a bunch to Will for the excellent tute on mapping! One point though, if you use the approach of using one image pasted "through" the body, (from one side) the bump map portion becomes inverted on opposite sides. Color is fine, it's just the bump map. Due to normal direction I suppose. I now understand how to use the UV editor, and it is a gas! Cory

The image used for the calendar is (as each year) created with A:M, so I thought "why not showing it on the forum". http://advent.3we.de Best wishes and have a nice pre-christmas time . *Fuchur*

This may a "How long is a pice of string " questions but, Is there a table or list that suggests appropriate weights to be given to CP's, using the 2008 rig ? What I mean by that, is given a standard joint like a wrist, what type of percentage spread would go across the forearm, hand and fan bone ? I've tried to work through it, but with very limited success, and need to address the problem again. regards simon

I tried to use some textures and lighting for the first time to achieve a certian style. Here is the result for now. Many things are still bothering me though: -The lightbulb in the standlamp next to the comfychair doesnt seem to work correctly. I made the bulb and the cover transparent but the light is not showing enough still. - the texturemap for the wall are tiled and double applied for bump and colormap. I am not sure , if they show correctly and are properly aligned positioned. -the oak material for the wood works quiet nice, scaled down to 1 % except for the backwall of the big bookcase , where they seem to big scaled somehow. I will tr…

Hello all! It has been (I feel like I have said this too much) a long time since I have posted. I have been really busy with school and polo and photography stuff. My Dad wants me to do another archviz sketch for his office card for Christmas. Last year I used my Residential Lap pool sketch. For this year I wanted to mix it up a bit. I first started by using a vertical composition (Final render is going to be 1200x1600px). I then chose to use a one-point perspective composition to emphasize scale and accentuate depth. After I had these in mind I sketched out a doodle involving pillars and arches. The idea was to have a hall lined with pillars lead to a…

I've got the front part of the bike almost finished, so I thought I'd post some pics: [attachmentid=14390] I'm trying to use the image on the cover of the DVD case as my main reference. I wish I knew how to take screencaps off of the dvd to use for other views. I have some views of the McFarlane model, but it isn't exactly accurate, and its scale is too small compared to the Kaneda figure, so I'm trying not to rely on those too much. This is going on my modeling reel, so feel free to crit the crap out of it.

Just started modelling a new character starting with the face and head. The only render to date is the model decaled with the roto rendered in front of the roto. A little bit of a cheat, I know, but I haven't built the eyes, hair or rest of the head as yet - and I have yet to learn how to properly decal a head! Wireframe has been posted as well. http://higginsdj.250free.com/wips.htm Cheers

I've read several post in which people were noticing that the emitters were not totally transparent when a scene was rendered. Well Nancy shared a little trick with me in one of my posts that I thought was good enough to share with everyone. Many of you may know this already, but some may not. If you want to make an emitter disappear, here's the trick: Make a small TGA image with a transparent background and an alpha channel for the whole image. When rendered in AM you should see nothing. Now take that TGA and apply it as an image to the emitter mesh you want to hide. Here is the kicker: in the image properties under the mesh shortcut, change the property from col…

Merry Christmas, everyone! I took a shot at creating an animated Christmas card. Wish it'd occurred to me to do it sooner, but somehow I was able to finish it in time. I did have to cheat a bunch (which included using no multi-pass or shadows in rendering and a lot of tomfoolering in Flash and Photoshop.) Anyways, I thought I'd share it with you guys, too! Sorry I know it is boring but I wanted a critique before I move on to giving the ball some personality. Any and all opinions welcome. Also, I am using 3% motion blur. What are people's thoughts on MB? When I didn't use any the animation looked kind of "jumpy". When I used more (>5%) parts of the ball looked fragemented. Is it a question of finding just the right %? http://www.youtube.com/user/Pesto642

Hello- In the properties panel you can turn on "Glow" for a group. It seems you can either turn "Glow" "ON" or "OFF". I tried searching the database but couldn't find an answer to the question, "What if you want a "Glow" to grow,... over time?...from nothing to a bright glow... Is there a way to do this without making two different renders...one with the glow "ON" and one with the glow "OFF" ...and then just cross dissolve the renders in another program like AfterFX? Thanks for any insights Tom

The UFO will become quite an integral part of the storyline of my current comic. The only problem is that it only gets updated each week and it's fairly slow paced. It'll be more enjoyable to read the entire thing once it's finished (I hope ) Dan Beeston http://www.invisiblespiders.com 'Get 'em Off Me Man!'

Meet the Little Barbarian! Short of stature, but big on courage… or not… This is one model that I have been working on (and off ;-) ) during the last year. I have just been having fun modeling, but in time some little animation emerges from the fog in the distance… [attachmentid=15581] So far I have him modeled, and I have his head textured… Rest of him is textured with procedural materials (easily visible with the hair) and waits for my spare time… Textures made with Painter Classic. Light is standard 3 – light choreography setup. Not rigged yet: just two bones in his body so far: head and jaw… I am waiting for the final v11 squetch rig… …

Animation:Master Technical Reference V11 I was looking for the latest "HOW TO BOOKS" out there and this one above appears to be the latest. I was wondering if it is elegant enough to guide one for a WIP project ? Also how many copies did the author sell? --- that would some what imply if it is widely acclaimed and adored or not?

This is Captain Barnstorm. A new character I created...because I wanted to! He doesn't have a story right now, but I have a few ideas percolating. I'm not entirely done rigging and making poses, but I'm pretty far along. No textures at this point. The next picture is a few characters from a story idea my wife came up with. If I get it finished it will be in storybook form (hopefully!). I'm very happy with the cow, but the horse is giving me trouble, and I just can't make the duck's wings look right. Bird wings that work right, to me, are nearly unattainable in 3d. I just can't get my brain wrapped around them. Any suggestions from bird modelers would be appreciated. …

I have been pretty quiet recently because I've been working hard on virtual me. I wanted to experiment with puppeting a realistic character, and I figured I was the best reference available. The model is not quite as elegantly splined as some of the other self portraits that have been posted recently, but my focus was on movement. So here's a first test at virtual me. There are still some tweaks to be made in both the motion and the model, but this is a promising start. Sorry it's so short, but I had to fit in the 2mb limit take20.mov

Here's what I have so far for the January 11 second club. Its a bit more challenging this month with three characters and their voices overlapping. The scenario is : A lady walking out of the pet store with a couple of Dodo birds she just purchased and they are all very happy. The lady will be clapping something in her hands during the clapping part but haven't thought of anything fitting yet. dodotest4.mov BTW those Dodo birds are cool models and they are on the extras DVD.

Hey there - long time no type Finally received some decent time to do my own work again and fired up A:M This is loosley based off of a character I painted some time ago. Although it is stylized I'd still like to have some feedback on my spline flow especially for the head. I think I may have too many splines? I'd like to smooth it out more and of course she will have some here and there tweaks before I add her hair and attire. Comments most welcome Thanks

Heres the model zipped - instead of posting vague pics of splines. [And I owe you an appology "Mage" because it seemed like you were gripe-ing, (below reply), when it turns out you werent.] h2.zip Well, I was trying to spline off a picture of the Hunter Model. Obviously its gunna take alot more work and understanding. Not much to work with other than a side view as a reference. The Hunter model has such a minimal amout of splines, yet its cleverly done using bias tweaks. And plus theres only a couple hooks, which are hard to figure where they are splined off of? I tried to take snapshots off the Hunter videos of the wireframes, but the quality only gives minimal h…

I haven't been active on the forum for a few years. But I haven't been totally idle. I wrote a Christmas song for children a few years ago and always planned to do an animation for it. It was recorded by my granddaughter Tara just before her 14th birthday. She just turned 17 and is hoping to go into music and drama.
