In a little house by the river lives Platypus....or he might if I get that far The idea's been in my idea's folder for some time, an Australian take on Wind in the Willows. initial sketch and the first start. The tree's from the Hash cd, but since it's one of mine I won't feel guilty. It's a stand-in until I build the cottage and some of the surrounding scene.

Hashers, Here is my latest non mechanical model. used 3D painter for the decals for hair color, still trying to get a handle of this organic? modeling. Still have more hair grooming to do a touch up or two on the decals, and to texture the antlers. more work on the geometry proportions. More pics to come as model progresses. (Note: I used the unicorn model from the Extras DVD as a starting point, so much thanks to Eric Lindstrom, hope I got that right)

Looking at Stians amazing truck model I got inspired to model a classic mid 60's Ford GT40. This is the first time I have even attempted at modeling a car so I am going to have a lot of questions. I downloaded some blue prints and did a quick once over on Xtaz's car modeling tutes as well. So far Here is a shot of a modern Ford GT I am using as a visual reference: I REALLY want to finish this model and not forget or lose interest in it. Photoman

As some of you may already know, Eric has been working on an EVA pod for my 2001 Discovery project. I was at the next stage of working on the models, which was trying to come up with a Dave Bowman model. Suffice it to say, that didn't work out really well. Figure I will come back to him later. Much later. I think I need to go through the face tutorial again and try to find some good pictures of Keir Dullea. At some point, I need to get a really good Bowman model completed. Anyway, I've been off work the past two days due to some minor surgery, and was getting pretty bored. Not really into watching soap operas during the day, so I thought I would give an EVA pod a go …

I decided to start a thread on some of my experimenting with outdoor lighting and rendering. So here is the scene I am going to be using: I designed/modeled it to have complex shadows, relfections, and have IOR somewhere (the water (1.33)) Here is a late afternoon lighting. I have updated that lighting setup slightly after the last render, I added 2 bulbs underwater (as suggested in this thread to give some shadow detail, and I also added a Lane T on the bottom of the pool. Ive been enjoying rendering to OpenEXR and using its high dynamic range (32 bit too) and buffers to get additonal tweakability. Next up is the midday daytime look! …

Hi all, I had been entering this comp with another App in the past but this month, after my initial attempts were panned have chosen AM and a completely new approach. Currently rerigging the 2 characters to be able to blink and talk (at least at a basic level). (Chicken: "You Stole from my kin.") Cheers

I'm redoing Alcatraz Prison again cause I lost my model on my old PC bummmer I got one cell block done now it's just a matter of copying and pasting. Thinking about modeling Lindsay Lohan and having her walk down the hall like at the first of the movie Alcatraz with Clint Eastwood. I'm open for suggestion for another actor or actress walking down the hall ? How can I change to color in the cell where they won't be the same like in the photo ?

Hi All, This is some setdesign I created thus far in order to bring some of my 2d comicbook creations to a 3d live for use in movies and games. At the same time, I am experimenting, if e-books from the kindle store could be a possible way for distribution of my comicbooks with these characters. The hardcopy version I tried from lulu gets way too expensive. You can see both and some more pictures at my website related to this topic: http://www.moonshinegirl.com -ONLY FOR ADULTS- Has anybody else here tried e-books for comics yet? cheers Jake

My friend and I are working on a project (have a look: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...+Trek+Red+Squad ) and we are using two different programs. I use 3ds Max 2010, and he uses A:M v16. My question is this: has anyone used ResErect to export models between any version of Max and A:M v16, and if so, how well does it work? Any help would be much appreciated

This is my first head and I've done it without any rotoscopes (because can't draw but I can sculpt). I'm nowhere nere finished but I'm not sure the neck lines will work well when he turns his head. Can someone tell me before I continue? He is a superhero that I am creating so I want him to have a strong jawline and stocky neck. I still want him to be cartoony like a buzz lightyear. You may notice he isn't that way right now but I didn't want to continue until I made sure I was on the right track. face.tga

Well, it's been years, but I finally started on my first female character. Let me state first off that the character I am supposed to be modeling is supposed to be small breasted, but for some reason they got modeled bigger. I am quite serious when I say I tried to model them smaller and ended up with her looking slightly more voluptious. I will be working on reducing the breast area when I make the actual character. This version will be my female base for later use anyway. This isn't done yet so please keep that in mind. I had trouble getting this far with the model. I think modeling only males has hampered me in this area. Comments and suggestions al…

JPEG format. 2000x1366px 2mb Please check out the bubbles on the surface of the goop! That is my favorite part of the whole image! Goop bag detail Just a decal but it looks pretty goopy. I bet that stuff stinks! Anyone who has seen previous bags of goop know that I have been trying to use booleans to cut away the goop but leave the bag. This worked great. I used that technique on the two bags in the box. However I was not 100% satisfied with the final results. I wanted to simplify my project and add more detail to the surface …

OK, I've rigged my Space Marine with TSM2 (yes there is some smartskinning issues and some geometry penetration). I'm trying to animate a run. This run is designed for an incline (ie running up a hill) rather than a flat run (even though I have rendered it flat) and in general I think it's OK but there is something that just doesn't feel right about it. It feels more like a fast walk than a run and I can't put my finger on the problem. Comments, advice and critiques most welcome. (225kb mov) Cheers

Here's a little character I resurrected from a old idea of mine. He's meant to be pretty simple, but I'm not sure he's going to have much emotion without eyebrows, and with button eyes. I was hoping to use mesh deformers on him for some good squash and stretch, but I haven't had much luck or time to experiment with them yet. comments? matt

Here's the deal. Like many animators, I've got an elaborate set in my choreography. Over two dozen models just for the one room, ten lights, ten cameras (so far). Although it was necessary to place all of these elements individually, I often need to deal with them as a group. For example, when doing test renders, I may need to toggle the entire set on and off. Or I may need to flip all the lights off so I can add in another light. Right now, doing stuff like this is really tedious. Clicking through the property window on 26 different models and setting each one's 'Active' property to OFF, and then back to ON when I'm done, is getting old real fast. Managing…

Hey fellows. I have just finished my latest work. Last week I got the idea of an wristwatch in my head an I then tried to capture it with A:M. I wanted to make a wristwatch with an touch of retro yet elegant design. The model contains 11848 patches, but the reason for that is because all the numbers and text is modelled (except for the display) The render took 13hr (9 multipass)

Here's a project I've been working on in my spare time for the last week or so. My wife and I both love reading so I decided to make an ideal comfortable, rich environment to do just that in. I'm still working on drawing out the surroundings here there's still a lot of tweaking to be done on the textures and what not for this model, but thought I'd start a thread anyway. Here's a sampling of my 'movie set' for a first animation, [if this looks to be CP heavy, well, I've been a polygon modeler for over 10 years] and my first two characters. All they will have to do is walk down a long, straight alley, down a set of steps, across a courtyard and emerge on the street near where the tank is parked. Then cross the street. Simple. [Yeah. Right!] Will they talk? In the process of learning to install bones, I'm sure I'll do the "Can You Say That?" tutorial, and by the time they can walk...well, maybe. I expect the boning procedure will not be a short one. I approach 'bones' with great trepidation. Tried them in Carrara. Never did get i…

TWO is progressing well - so well in fact that we're moving into modeling for Act II, (there's still plenty of animation to be done in Act I but the modelers need to stay way ahead of the animators). Alain Desrochers, TWO Set Manager, will be looking for modelers for "Mrs. Yoop's Castle" (which Alain designed). This is the best set in the movie, with lots of gothic and macabre details, and plenty of opportunity to be creative without having to be a perfect modeler. So, all of you car modelers please raise your hand by responding to this thread. You don't have to commit to a lot - just bite off a piece here and there: plenty of statues, ornamentation, hallways, and…

It's been a while, but I had this image of the playing card knights from Alice in Wonderland, and I wanted to put 3D Painter through its' paces. I have to say I really like 3D Painter and its integration with AM. That plus the fact that there's a new version of Mirrorsplines for AM13 really made my day. And when did Hash add the mirror all smartskin option? It's really cool too. Currently the model only has a color and a displacement map, I'll probably add a reflectivity map tomorrow.

Well, well, well, well. It has been close to an eon now since my last W.I.P. Hopefully some of you might remember me, lol. I have not spent a lot of time with A:M lately because I've been concentrating most of my efforts in story development. I have finally reached the pre-production phase of modeling my characters. This character is a semi-human, mostly human looking, character from an unknown race (unknown as far as the story goes). I would like some feedback on my face model and any pointers/improvement I could make to my technigue. So far I have the base facial mesh going. I'm still trying to tweak the patches around to try to bring out the char…

I thought about what I could do as a first project, and thought it would be good to make a movie of Jabberwocky - not too long, and I've always been a fan. Then as I went through TaoA:M I thought, maybe just a verse. As I finished TaoA:M, I thought, just a couple of words. So - "BEWARE THE JABBERWOCK!" He's supposed to be from Tenniel's Jabberwock illustration, and, yes, those are socks: He's only got a basic modified 2001 rig, but as he doesn't appear much in the poem, he doesn't need any more. My next move is to try and bake a Darktree onto his skin and change it in 3d Painter.

Hello everyone, I haven't been on the forums in a while, except for the occasional lurking and quick troubleshooting, but after weeks of jumping from poly modeling, to C-coding, to flash animation, even to pixel art, I'm back to the Hash forums. Like one of my old projects, Patapon, I'm using 3D splines on a 2D scale. I don't really know if I'm going to do anything with it. Just a quick test: Thanks, Jared

Hi! Been away from animation for quite awhile. I liked the sound file of 11 second club this month, so I have been playing with Barry Zundell's Will model I got from his excellent animation CD. My eyes are glazed, and my mind is jelly, after a few hours, 11sec_oct02.mov Feel free to comment, still lot's of time. Michel

Well I'm on vacation until January 4th so I decided to start a new character. I want to have a simple-to-animate character that can have a wide range of expression. Kind of like the standard Animation Mentor characters. My ambitious intention is to build a rig for her and use her to get better at the animation side of things. I did add ears and some hair which may be more than needed but here's what I did so far. I'm having a little trouble smoothing the cheeks. It seems anytime there is a five point patch I get a slight crease from some angle. I don't want to use the porcelain material to fix it. I'd rather figure out how to do it with the splines. Righ…

Hey everyone, It's been a while since I posted anything, but I thought now would be a good time since I'm working in my spare time on something I've always wanted to model, namely a skull. I've already made a T rex skull, but I also wanted to try my hand at a human. I was looking around the various AM resources for a skeleton, because I remembered there used to be one rattling around somewhere - in fact, I think his name was Eugene. When I couldn't find him, I decided this would serve as the opportunity I'd been looking for. I started out with a rudimentary skull shape that took about 4 hours to model. Since then, I've been steadily adding in more detail, which …

I really have taken a break from showing stuff on this forum after a little legal 'mishap'... anyways- I thought some of you would get a kick out of this... I'm (hoping) to complete a 2:30 music video for Myron Leroy's 'Rack Em Up' song. If things get tight, I may need help from willing forum members to help animate and render this puppy. Needs be done mid summer... I'll show some animation eventually, but here are some select stills from the first minute I have done. It's about an old pool shark (Sir Nigel) who ends-up getting himself hustled by an underdressed vixen. ALL images are WIP not final renders... Nuff said- HAPPY MD WEEKEND!
