I am trying to get a hang on weigthing right now... and find that I unvoluntrily loose the weigths again once in a while, that I just did before... also I once had all my bones doubled and I don`t know, what I did wrong. Any hints from the weigthwranglers around here, how to avoid these traps?

I added a skeleton to my ninja and everything looks great, but when i put it in an action one of the legs is raised. it also is affecting how it animates. I would greatly appreiciate it if some on would take a look at it and try to help. Here it is. Thanks, MasterFunk Ninja.mdl

I'm working on a flying robot model for a friend's movie. I have a model that has been rendering in Shaded mode in the model window without issue. I see the colors assigned and decals applied. I was in Bones Mode and was picking points for a bone. I then exited to Modeling Mode and have lost the expected Shaded functionality. I mean, I see the object shaded, but no decals, but the render is very dark and the light for the rendered view appears to be from below. 1. Does not reproduce w/ another model that I created. 2. Appears to be localized to the actual model data! I reopend the .mdl into a new project and observed the problem. 3. Restarted AM…

I am experiencing unexpected results from my fire emitter. It appears as if their is a force in the "Z" direction, when in fact their is none defined in the chor. Below are views of what is happening. As you can see, the flames don't just float up, the also float towards the +z direction as well. I include my project file. Can anybody explain to me what is going on and how to fix it? I can't figure it out. I am using v12.0s for Windows with this one. In the project, Chor1 has a force in it, a cyclinder shape, but it shouldn't be affecting anything on the troll. Chor2 is a copy of chor1, without the force in it. Problems occur in both chors. It's rare for one of my modeling brainwaves to work right out of the gate with no rethinks and no tweaks. But lightning does strike occasionally. The image shows the first test renders of a bump decal to simulate the look of a welded joint either butt or fillet. As is usual for me the decal started out as a spline model with a black to white gradient material applied. If anyone's interested I can make the model and material available.

And what can you do to avoid it? I've noticed that in a lot of models that I build, I am getting these problems and I am not sure what I could be doing better to avoid it. I don't think I am doing anything strange as I am building these models, but maybe there is something that I am doing that I am not realizing. Seems to me like I'd have to do a screen capture of one of my work sessions for anyone to be able to tell where I am screwing up. Just was wondering what some of your opinions were when it comes to the industry. I've seen two types of Demo reels. The type where there's a title card, the full project plays through and then repeats through other projects til done. Or a montage of clips with a music lay over of random projects segments. Which do you think is more professional? I see advantages for both. The P to P shows that you can be cohesive, that you can tell a full story visually while the montage can highlight your "money shots" and can show more of your work in the standard 3-4 min time span. I don't know. What do you guys think?

Trying to understand V11 hair so I am playing with settings to see what they control. Under Dynamic options, once it is turned on, is angle limit which can vary from 180 to 0. The qt below which is only 30 frames shows what happens to some hair when only the angle limit changes. Hope this is useful. Oh it starts at 180 and goes to 0 when there hair rises the most anglelimit.mov

I just rendered my mini movie that is due tonight and keep getting seemingly random black renders on one character. There are about 5 bad renders in a 960 frame movie. Attached is a picture of one part of a rendered frame and the setting for that frame. I change them, but they change back to nan% when I render. Is there a way to change all of the settings at once for a particular property? I'm on a Mac, running 11.1 (latest version). [attachmentid=14915] [attachmentid=14916]

Can anyone figure out why the gears shrink and grow when the "pelvice" bone is rotated? I can't figure it out. All I did was rotate the gears using the rotate tool. How can that tool do anything even related to changing the size of an object? (See attachment below)

Hello, As hard as I've tried to come to terms with human body proportions (how long is the upper arm, lower arm, hand, upper leg, etc) I seem to still have issues! During the last stress test of model shown below I realized that things were not right so I placed it next to proper body proportions document (below). Before I start scaling body parts this way and that way I wanted to get any feedback I could get from the forum. Also, for me, rigging starts with a 'guess' as to where the 'Body' bone goes (that's the bone that sticks out of the butt facing back wards). I haven't used AM too much since I still have 15j on the CD and 16 didn't offer any worth while stability fixes here. Wondering if 17 is coming out soon? I got my little demon sprite [now known as the Wright Sprite] flying. Unfortunately, I'm only cleared for VFR landings, and in order to bring him back to earth, I had to go into a direct side view in the Choreography [#2] and turn off the Terrain and Rocks so I could see his feet touch down. This added a keyframe which I didn't notice at the time. When I got the sequence ended, I tried to watch it through the Cameras view as I moved the scrubber. The ground disappeared and came back, plus a few lights that I had turned off [and back on] so there were fewer lines running all over the place. I tried selecting them and deleting. I just re-opened the .prj doc. for the Albatros fighter and the DH-2, only to find massive decal loss on both. The textures are present in the PWS. Their icons are showing in each entry in the decals folder. Where do they go? Is there a way to stop it?
