Well, I havn't shown my face around here in 2 or 3 years, and for those of you that remeber me I was working on the project known as Super Mario Film awhile back. Although that project had died years ago, I decided that I'd finish the first scene of it (which in my opinion was the best scene), and call it the finished product. And what can you do to avoid it? I've noticed that in a lot of models that I build, I am getting these problems and I am not sure what I could be doing better to avoid it. I don't think I am doing anything strange as I am building these models, but maybe there is something that I am doing that I am not realizing. Seems to me like I'd have to do a screen capture of one of my work sessions for anyone to be able to tell where I am screwing up. I am probably going to try and do the giraffe tutorial, maybe that will shed some light, however----I was making good progress and would possibly like to have a finished dragon model at the end of the day. help........ …

Just was wondering what some of your opinions were when it comes to the industry. I've seen two types of Demo reels. The type where there's a title card, the full project plays through and then repeats through other projects til done. Or a montage of clips with a music lay over of random projects segments. Which do you think is more professional? I see advantages for both. The P to P shows that you can be cohesive, that you can tell a full story visually while the montage can highlight your "money shots" and can show more of your work in the standard 3-4 min time span. I don't know. What do you guys think?

Trying to understand V11 hair so I am playing with settings to see what they control. Under Dynamic options, once it is turned on, is angle limit which can vary from 180 to 0. The qt below which is only 30 frames shows what happens to some hair when only the angle limit changes. Hope this is useful. Oh it starts at 180 and goes to 0 when there hair rises the most anglelimit.mov

I just rendered my mini movie that is due tonight and keep getting seemingly random black renders on one character. There are about 5 bad renders in a 960 frame movie. Attached is a picture of one part of a rendered frame and the setting for that frame. I change them, but they change back to nan% when I render. Is there a way to change all of the settings at once for a particular property? I'm on a Mac, running 11.1 (latest version). [attachmentid=14915] [attachmentid=14916]

Can anyone figure out why the gears shrink and grow when the "pelvice" bone is rotated? I can't figure it out. All I did was rotate the gears using the rotate tool. How can that tool do anything even related to changing the size of an object? (See attachment below)

Well, I've experimented with more constraints and I came up with this. I wanted to create the effect of the engine on a rocket. the little rectangles represent the end where the fuel comes out...this was all controlled with one null engineidea_noframes.mov

Hello, As hard as I've tried to come to terms with human body proportions (how long is the upper arm, lower arm, hand, upper leg, etc) I seem to still have issues! During the last stress test of model shown below I realized that things were not right so I placed it next to proper body proportions document (below). Before I start scaling body parts this way and that way I wanted to get any feedback I could get from the forum. Also, for me, rigging starts with a 'guess' as to where the 'Body' bone goes (that's the bone that sticks out of the butt facing back wards). This is the pivot point of the legs and I'm never sure where it actually should be. …

I haven't used AM too much since I still have 15j on the CD and 16 didn't offer any worth while stability fixes here. Wondering if 17 is coming out soon? I got my little demon sprite [now known as the Wright Sprite] flying. Unfortunately, I'm only cleared for VFR landings, and in order to bring him back to earth, I had to go into a direct side view in the Choreography [#2] and turn off the Terrain and Rocks so I could see his feet touch down. This added a keyframe which I didn't notice at the time. When I got the sequence ended, I tried to watch it through the Cameras view as I moved the scrubber. The ground disappeared and came back, plus a few lights that I had turned off [and back on] so there were fewer lines running all over the place. I tried selecting them and deleting. Hello all- Just downloaded a new font into my ProgramFiles/CommonFiles/Adobe/Font directory and the new font shows up in Photoshop but is not available for the Font Wizard in AM. Does anyone know where the fonts need to be stored for the AM Font Wizard to use them? Many Thanks! Tom

I just re-opened the .prj doc. for the Albatros fighter and the DH-2, only to find massive decal loss on both. The textures are present in the PWS. Their icons are showing in each entry in the decals folder. Where do they go? Is there a way to stop it?

According to this post: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...amp;#entry48718 it is possible to get a white render with shadows using a sun type light. So far I have not been able to reproduce this. I get shadows with a klieg light, but not a sun. Yves states that any type of light can be used for this as long as the attenuation is set to 0? Where is the setting for a sun type light's attenuation?

Hashers, Here is my latest non mechanical model. used 3D painter for the decals for hair color, still trying to get a handle of this organic? modeling. Still have more hair grooming to do a touch up or two on the decals, and to texture the antlers. more work on the geometry proportions. More pics to come as model progresses. (Note: I used the unicorn model from the Extras DVD as a starting point, so much thanks to Eric Lindstrom, hope I got that right)

I've updated my site with my last three misfires from digitalrendering.com's Animation Showdown, the four-hour animation race: Who's at the Door? I never quite got the rhythm of this one right. Doing more leading with the hips might have made it less floaty. Hug. The moderator warned that doing this with two characters would be too hard. Turns out he was right! Crawl. Why he didn't just step over that thing? These versions are re-rendered for better lighting. See them on my Showdown page.

Here's a spring I made and it's the first of a motorbike I'll be making. Sweeper will be used extensively. Emilio: Making the spring was automatic and I didn't see any "Dialogue Box". I couldn't find anything about it in the readme....How do I activate those options. Thanks again.

Hello fellow animators, For my short film, I'm trying to create a certain lighting effect using a directional light. I'm working with Ambient Occlusion. I tried adding a light, but it always appears as a spherical light source casting light in all directions. Instead I added the rim light that is default in any chor's PWS to my choreography, and that light is indeed directional. So cool, I thought I had it all figured out. The thing I don't understand is, the light is shining through walls. I'm trying to have the light partly obscured by a wall, but even if I aim it in the center of a wall, the light is just as strong on the other side of the wall! Is there some se…
