Geeze! It's been over 25 hours so far and my image for the Sci-fi contest is still over 30 hours from finishing!!! The bad thing is, the estimated time is continously going up!! Is this normal? I did make some adjustments to it to try and save some time but this is too long. I have like 18 lights in the scene tho. maybe thats why. Any tips? I just hope it finishes before Sept 1st! lol

I had some issues with the project file for this guy but it looks like everything is okay now. I played the radiosity a bit last night and finally decided to let the thing render overnight... about eight hours later I had this image at 1024x768.

The comic is called Dark Days, it's a sequel to the immensely popular 30 days of night by Steve Niles. I hope he likes it enough to put it in the book as a pin-up or cover. We'll see! I really had to turn off the "make it photoreal" switch in my head since I was going to ink the piece, so it has more of a comic feel. Rendered in 10.5. All geometry, flocking system with 65 bats with a flying action hooked up. 10 hours at 2200 X 3300 on my dual P4 2.8 Xeon (only using one Proc of course). Rendered multipass, 49 passes. Then rendered pure b&w outline toon render. Took into Photoshop and inked with toon render as base. Textures are my…

All these fantastic BMW models in progress reminded me that I hadn't finished my Formula 1 car model. It isn't too far away from being finished. It still needs wheel hubs and brakes, camera housings and a bit of work on the rear diffuser. Other than that, I'm quite happy with it. I will add panel lines using image maps. The driver model is close to being finished too. Can't quite get the helmet shape right. I like really dirty images ;-) so the final textures will probably reflect a car that has gone a race distance. No showroom shines for this puppy! What I would really love to do though is a wet weather shot. Puddles, reflections, rain, particle sp…

Here's the first result that I'm willing to share as a WIP. Eventually she'll be Saturn Girl from DC Comics Legion (of Super-Heroes). The face still needs some smoothing. The eyes are from the Animation:Master 2000 handbook by Jeff Paries. I only tweaked the Iris area by moving it inward. In some lighting situations, it'll look cool, as it'll have a hilight in the shadowed area. That's the theory, anyway. Still getting the hang of renders and lighting in A:M, being used to Carrara for lo these long months. Plan on checking out the Forest or ARM for some tutes on them. Any suggestions? I used the SAY boneHed as reference, as a number of other resources. The …

Thanks to Frank Hulsey for his quick how to Model the hair style and to Jim for those tutorials on decaling. I'm using the TSM for the rig with some fan bones. the smartskin has just really really been kicking my #@$%. Any comments are welcomed

So I've created an action for the snail's movement, but when I drop it onto the model in the chor, at first it only partially worked, then I deleted all the other keyframes on the snail model, and now it doesn't work at all. Here's the action. Apologies for starting a new thread but I was afraid it wouldn't get looked at in my wip thread. EDIT: I think the chor may just be buggy. I'm starting it over, so we'll see! snailmovetest01_h264.mov

Extending on from the tree making threads this is a test project , with only two planes and three materials. The sky is skytracer, the landscape is a darktree landscape texture which shades surfaces facing up with a grass like texture and vertical surfaces with a rocky surface. The forest is an AM11 fur material with tree images mapped onto the fur "strands". The animation render is a single pass multipass so there are quite a few artifacts. With some fine tuning of fur emmitters I think the trees can be considerably improved and the lighting is only test lighting. Still I thought it was worth showing

Here's my question. I've been modeling a quick-n-dirty cartoon character, of which I am still working on the head. I've learned from experience and tried to make the character with absolutely no creases. So far I think I've acheived my goal. The problem is that the head seems to change color in the back (due to shadows). If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this please tell me.

Hi Evre1 I've finally got some images to show. Here are some frames of the music video I'm currently working on. Please note that the steppy kind of effect is due to interlacing/deinterlacing. I don't know how to paste more than one image in a message, so I will post the next 3 images in consequtive replies. Please let me know what you think. Oh by the way the video will be wide screen and that's why the images are so disperportionate. (16x9) Hope you like... Francois

Hi, I'm in the middle of making a character walk. I've been following the manual to the letter on how to do stride lengths. I've done it and added my character to a path, however, it talks about an ease constraint in the walk properties....it's not in mine as you can see in the pic. How do I get it?

AM's animation tools made it a snap to animate quickly, and the rest of the presentation is looking(bad pun)pretty flash Just thought I'd share.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC0pbC1vzyY Hello esteemed fellow Hashers! I'm in a bit of a 'pickle'...maybe you can help me out with some advice. I am doing a retail furniture advert and I did an animation of a ribbon Untying (see link) using an muscle mode action to 'UNdraw' the ribbon and then I used SimCloth to get the ribbon to fall...kinda nice. The art director saw it and does not like it- HE wants the ribbon to UNtie as if invisible hands were pulling at it and he wants convincingly real action. I am now sitting back scratching my head wondering the best way to TRY and pull this off---literally. Ideas include: -boning the ribbon and using IK…

Hi all, My name is Sean and i've been using AM for about 6 months now. Im mostly interested in character animation and so thats what im concentrating on. Anyeays, starting a new animation with my "turn-o-the-century" style character who looks like high society material, but likes to do silly things. In this animation he sees a pesky fly and decides to get rid of it via kung fu. Just start it the past month and i havent gotten very far what with school and all (18 credits, yuck). Anyways, let me know what you folks think. Thanks alot. Sean PS. Before i can post it though, what do i do if it's larger than 1 MB? Answer that and then i can post it for you. I ha…

I know there's a lot to be fixed with this walk cycle, but 'I'd appreciate any help all of you could offer. This is my first walk cycle, so it sucks, it's straight out of the book - or as close to it as I could get. I hope to address your critiques one at a time, but I'm sure that's going to put me into next year as far as the next render goes. but anything you could offer would be appreciated. The link address is: http://homepage.mac.com/teamguy/PhotoAlbum6.html Go to the Graphite file sharing link to download the walk cycle AVI.

Well, in the interest of killing a little time waiting for my fiance to get home before taking off on a trip, I sat down and did a quick animation exercise. I think every animator and their brother has worked the Preston Blair Strut In-between exercise, so I thought I'd go ahead and get in out of my system. So, I grabbed my goofing around test model, Desert Rose, and started in. Three weeks later, I think I'm starting to take this a little too far....
