-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Way back when I was in Viscom Class, and 1st learning about AM. the class went over to Lightwave 3D, and I fell in love with that app at that time. Since then I've com to realize that out of all the 3D Apps, (Bryce, XSI, TrueSpace, 3DSMax, Cinema4D, Houdini, flamingo, Anim8or, Z-Brush, Xara 3D etc..) that LW, and AM are the best, user friendly, short learning curve one out there. and I want to reteach myself about AM, since I really haven't messed with it in years now, I'm a newbie again. Hence I lent my copy of my CD with Animation Master on it to another classmate, (as classmates will do.) that (a few months later) dropped out, and we lost touch over the years. …

Hi - I created a hair system for a model. I want the hair to a shade of grey and brown so I created a new attribute (cell turb) as part of this hair system and made it grey and brown. When I apply the hair system material to the model the hair is showing as white. Can anyone let me know what I am doing wrong? Thanks - Eric

H'lo All - I'm faily new to A:M, but I've been looking for a guide that covers building a skeleton/rigging from scratch with no luck. I've done most of the tutorials, and I can transfer a rig from old Boneless Thom to get a humanoid moving, but I'd love to start from nothing and figure out how to place the nulls/hinge bones/etc. where I need them. Any suggestions? Thanks! Obiwayne

Okay, you know in the intro video on the hash site, well, I was wondering how do I do that layering thing of a still image? Like when Mr. Navone has a picture of him with the alien's hand on his shoulder. How can I accomplish that, except with different models and pictures?

Hello all, sorry if this might have been asked before, I searched for a while, and couldn't find an answer. What I am trying to do is model objects that I want to render into single frame animations. I need the backgrounds to be transparent, or at least one solid color. The goal is to say model a tree or rock outcropping that I could render into a 2d image and paste it as a "billboard" on a plain in DarkBasic Pro. What I have done so far is to eliminate the ground in the chor and eliminate all unnecessary lighting. However, I can't seem to get the background color to a uniform color. If anyone has used AM for gaming apps, any ideas or methods would be greatly appreciat…

Hi, I have used the standard Eddie character, set up an action for him, added some voice and then added a dope sheet. Adjusted the widths to sync lips with voice, everything worked fine but the lip movement is far too large for what I want - in fact it looks totally unrealistic. I went in and adjusted the percentage for each phoneme at each change in the timeline, so that action looks OK, but it will be very cumbersome if I have to do this every time I do lip syncing and I am sure there must a cleaner way around this problem. Maybe I was dreaming, but I seem to remember a slider that could be used to change the range for an action - as I said maybe I was dream…

How do you animate values like the rate of emission to start/stop a particle material from generating particles? I've figured out the way to animate things like opacity, size, and gravitational effect, but stopping and starting the effect using rate of emission eludes me. An example of where it's done is the Explosion Project in the Animation: master libraries. I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about. Whoever can answer this for me absolutely rocks. Even if you don't answer, you probably rock anyway.

I was reading some tutorials about normal mapping, and all I could find is that normal maps were a quicker approximation of bump maps for use in realtime (game) rendering. So, in image/animation projects like those created in A:M, what is the difference between the two? Why use one over the other, and if one is outstandingly preferable, why have both?

Hello there, I have recently started diving into 3D animation using Hash Animation, and I am looking to optimize my workflow to make the most out of the software. As a newcomer to the 3D animation world; I am excited to learn from those with more experience and refine my approach to ensure efficiency and creativity. Currently; I am working on a short animation project that involves character modeling; rigging; and scene composition. I find rigging quite complex; and sometimes my rigs don't behave as expected during animation. What are some best practices for creating stable and flexible rigs? Are there specific tutorials or resources that you recommend for …

Hello Everyone! I recently purchased Animation Master after seeing it demonstrated by the fabulous James Hash. The robustness of A:M blew my mind. Name: Cole Cash Exercise completed: Exercise 1 date completed: 05/22/2006 Instructor: Tao:AM Comments: The tutorial was simple yet you learn a great deal about the navigation tools. Every time that I dropped KeyKat into the Chor his left right foot seemed to be twisted. I tried to drop him into the chor several times and even re-installed A:M. I finally solved the problem by rotating the (I believe) null. On to exercise 2!

Hi, I've used animation master for a number of projects, and feel relatively comfortable with modeling and animating objects. Recently I have run into a problem when I try and copy and paste a model inside the same object. For example, I'm making an auditorium with about 200 chairs in it. I created the original chair then copied all the points and splines and pasted it next to the original chair. I kept this up and then started doing it by rows of 15 chairs. after creating about 7 rows with 15 chairs in each my computer takes forever to copy even one chair. If I click somewhere to begin creating another point, it pauses for about 2 min before reacting. Are ther…

I have AM 9.5, I like animating for fun once in a while but have not been able to devote the time to seriously try to learn AM. I do have some questions about some of the AM books. Regarding the new AM v11 Technical Manual. Does it only apply if you have the latest version of AM, or does the tutorial work with any version of AM. Secondly, on the same subject, the link to purchase the book does not go anywhere. I know a few months back that it did, but now it just goes to Cafepress' website without any information. Thanks Griffin

Hello - I've created a full model which I'm now trying to split in half at the center spline so that I can copy/flip/attach to rig properly. After deleting the left half, centering the middle spline at 0 along the x axis, at the copy/flip/attach stage a strange occurance happens. The model attaches at the feet. The foot is placed along the 0 y axis, but if I move the model down below the y axis, some of the control points end up at the bottom of the model (see attached jpeg). I've trid to backtrack my work to find the control points that are causing the problem, but when I try to delete them to replace them, they won't delete. Anyone know what's happening here? …

Greetings all; I am brand new to Animation Master after using Truespace and Lightwave in the past. Yep, I'm a bigtime newbie. Although my Amiga days are resurfacing. In some of the 'given' rigs I notice there is often a 'switch' or pose to change between forward and Inverse Kinematic linkage on a model ? i'm using my own setup ( too basic to call it a rig ) just simple bones with points assigned. The default seems to be that it becomes an IK system ? Is there a way to have the joints of the torso on forward while retaining the IK on the legs and arms. Or to be able to switch between one and the other? regards simon

Hey guys, So, I've been trying to figure out how to stop hair from passing through my characters face. I've read a post that said, turn on object collisions in dynamics. I did this, but it only keeps the hair from passing through the scalp. I changed the collision radius, but the higher number I go, the hair becomes a crazy mess. It looks like my character is under water. Thanks. Justin

The Sizes of Defaults Cornell Box 55x55x55 cm. If I enlarge sizes to 200x200x200 cm (and more), then in what progression should I increase quantity and parameters of light sources? Is there any definite pattern in such calculations? Is there any formula for such calculation? May be it’ll be optimal to reduce pro rata models themselves, which are settled in Cornell Box, rather than enlarge Cornell Box? And one more question. What function does the detail "luminaire" execute in Cornell-Demo-Defaults project? Thanks to everybody. Excuse me my imperfect English.

Hi All, I just wanted to see if anyone has any info on making toys with AM. I remember talking to Victor Navone about making Blitz model / statues like ages ago and he sent me some links to toy makers which I have lost, like ages ago. Animation Master is such a powerful organic modelling application, it is such a waste to not be able to this sort of work with it. I've been practicing the walk cycle, and then I decided to try making a hop cycle for rabbit, but can anybody give me a idea of how I would set up the stride length for a hop, or how I would gauge it correctly? I've been experimenting, and I've gotten the animation action to look good, but the stride length is somewhat hard to gauge what I need to base it on. I keep seeming to end up with rabbit either hopping way too fast across the screen when I set up the choreography of it, or if I slow it down, every time he lands he slides forward a bit.
