-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Thank you for looking. I'm just about ready to purchase for first time. Can I import an image, weather it be a digital camera image, paint program image, etc.... and use this to either "trace" or use as a guideline for making my image in AM? Again and thank you. Just a suggestion, a "Pre Sales" forum may be useful. Tom

I have an elaborate choreography with several different characters walking and talking, one is even flying. As one character walks near another, I want him to wave hello to the other. But, when I try to apply the keyframes for the hand, that hand removes itself from the walk cycle and no longer swings by his side, from that frame on. Is there a way to throw in this quick series of keyframes and then return that hand to the walk cycle?

How do you model perfect angles/shapes. I know I can create a pentagon or octagon with the lathe tool very easy. Pentagon 5 cp's or octagon 8cp's lathe and then peak those points. Free hand guess work I don't consider to be accurate. So how do I measure/set a perfect angle manually?

Hi all, I'm new to 3d animation and wondering about rendering times. I've got a Dell Latitude 3Ghz Laptop with 2GB of RAM. It seems too slow for me (only a 64MB ATI built-in card). I have access to an AMD 64bit system with 1 GB of RAM. Would that work any faster? Does AM take advantage of 64-bit? How about multiple Processors? Thanks in advance! -Tim

I was searching the forums to find these 2 tricks in animation. None of the topic headers seem to have keywords to track down the info. Logically, they have to be common animation techniques for some time now: 1. Rotating a wheel such as a car, and to keep it spinning. 2. Animating a prop that pops up in one area and then disappears and something else pops up in the same location, like magic. For instance, a frog breakdancing and then instantly disappears and a prince pops up in the same spot.

I created a tucan bird model with feathers (hair). Before I play around with it, I wanted to make sure it is possible if I have the bird flying that the feathers have a "blowing in the wind" look. I did the "Waving the flag" exercise about a year ago, so I'm going to run through that again, but wanted to make sure it would work before I put the time into it. Can anyone advise me on this or even have an animation they have done, that I could see the effect. Thanks - E

I may just be trying to run too many things simultaneously but I don't recall experiencing this before. When I start a render and then open another window (such as for browsing the forum) A:M appears to stop rendering and waits until I return to start rendering again. Looking closer, the renderer doesn't seem to be completely stopping but seems to slow down considerably. I'd guess I've told Windows somewhere to give the active window full priority but... not sure where and when I would have set that. Any leads will be appreciated.

I am working on the legs of a person, and I have this unwanted crease that I just can't seem to get rid of. I have tried deleting CPs and re-connecting them. It will get rid of the crease in one direction, but then the crease will appear in a different direction. For instance, If I get rid of the vertical crease, it will appear horizontally and vice versa. I have attached a shaded view, shaded wire view and a close-up shaded wire view of the problem area. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks... Al [attachmentid=22630] [attachmentid=22629] [attachmentid=22631]

I am struggling quite a bit with the door stuck project. To begin with, the help file isn't doing much good. I am having a hard time looking things up. For example, if you put the word keyframe in the search for the index, there is not an entry for keyframe Kind of surprising when that is so fundamental to the program. Anyway, my plan was to create Shaggy turning the knob back and forth and pulling back, which I did. These are represented on frames 0:00, 0:05, and 0:10 respectively. Then I would copy keyframe 0:00 and paste it at frame 0:15, copy keyframe 0:05 and paste it at 0:20 and copy keyframe 0:10 and paste it at 0:25 so that he would repeat the action.…

Even though I am not a newbie, I am having a problem. I created some pose sliders and did the poses. When I looked back, I realized that I could do what I wanted without half of them. One slider has nothing attached to it. I have tried to delete them and they are not deleting. Is there a specific technique to getting rid of these. Any help would be appreciated Leo

Hi - I am running through exercise 11.5 - the face. I am having trouble w/ the 5 point spline where the eye and the nose meet. I have the 5 control points set up but when selecting the 5 cp's the "5 point spline button" doesn't activate. So I try a few more times and about the 5 time of selecting the 5 cp the button becomes active to where I can press it and it creates the 5 point patch. Is there a certain order you have to select the cp for it to activate - not sure what I am doing wrong. Thanks - Eric

There's been quite a few threads on the forum lately referring to baking of this and that in them. Its something I would like to know more about. And I was wondering, as this was not around (except for the baking of actions), when the TechRef was written would someone like to add an entry to the Hash Wiki about Baking? What can be Baked? Why you would want to do it? The pros & cons of doing it. etc... Think this might be helpful for other users and the curious.

Hello AM world. I've been working my way through the exercises and the forums for two weeks now and having a good time so far. When I drag a selection box in the workspace window, the box is opaque black inside until I release the mouse button, then it is clear. This makes it hard to see the CP's I'm selecting. In the videos I've watched the box is clear while dragging to size. How do I fix this?

Hi, I'm trying to do a rack focus and I keep getting these bubbles around the objects. In the example image I've uploaded, thats suppose to be an X Wing Fighter! You can see the X Wing but these bubbles appear around it. I've set up the render in the options panel to "Use Settings From the Camera." I've tried to turn on and off motion blur, Reflections, and shadows. Anyone else have this difficulty?

Hi. I've got a rudimentary question. I'm making a head. Given that I don't have a steady hand, my CP's aren't aligned the way I like. So I've selected a spline, and used "," to select all CP's within that spline. Now what I'd like to do is have them all aligned in the same Z plane. I've modified Pivot Z, but that didn't seem to do anything. I've modified Translate, but that seems to move them all by whatever # I enter, so they're moving within relation to each other, rather than to a single objective coordinate. I suspect I can look at the Pivot coordinates of each and subtract them from one another (1 at a time) and then modify translate with the differen…

I am trying to make the eye lashes on my model. I have selected the narrow row of patches that make the edge of her lids. The problem (if you look closely) is that there is one row of hairs on each lid. On the right upper lid the hairs grow from the front edge of the patches. The hairs on the other three lids all grow from the inner edge of the patches. Is there a way to get them to all grow from teh front edge? Thanks is advance,

another one of these very, very fundamental questions. here's my decal with leaf-type shapes. leaf pattern saved from PS as TGA 32 both as color map and as bump. but what's the white frame doing here? TGA's appear with white frame even in the hierarchy, object > group name > decal > image. i'm thinking this wrong but where? (i first saved TGA's as 24, seeing the white went back, resaved over the old - could this be a problem? rebooted a:m twice.)

I have done the exercise with the fighter jet, and maybe I missed it but I didn’t seem to tell me how to make a decal, and I cant seem to get my decals to not have that big white background. Iv searched the forum and cant find any topics of this, but maby me iz just stupid LOL Iv got PhotoShop 6 and have tried ever format combination I can think of, and still cant get it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi all, I'm starting up again with exercise 6 after being away for quite a while, and I'm running into a problem right off the bat. I want to have Shaggy walk up to the door before he tries to open it, so Ive made a path, dropped Shaggy onto it and then dropped a "resolute walk" action onto him. When he gets up close to the door, I'm hitting the "force keyframe" button at frame 30, moving his hand up to the door and placing his feet together on the ground (in skeletal mode), moving the frame counter ahead by about 3 frames and then hitting "Force Keyframe" again. What happens is that the hand and foot motions I've changed are stretched out over the entire 33 frame…

I've been working on a movie and decided it was time to animate the scenes. Unfortunately, I can't continue unless I know some kind of software that gives me high-quality scene combiners. Whenever I use Windows Movie Maker for combining scenes, the quality is really bad and I don't want it that way. I was hoping for a software that could allow me to finalize my movies in quicktime. I have one scene from the movie that I'm currently working on. untitleddo.mov Do you know any software that can produce the same quality and be in quicktime?

Dear Animation Masters, When outputting .mov file with sound, I am unable to hear the sound playback on hard drives or as streaming video off the web. However, if I output a .wmv there is no problem hearing the sound. In addition, many websites open with a big block with a q with a question mark in it. I have removed flash from the list in QT pro, so I thought that would solve the problem. Any tips? Thanks, Michael Angelo http://www.michaelangeloart.com
