DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I am rigging the fingers of a hand and I know of 3 different ways to make the CPs move in a controlled fashion: Smart skin Fan bones CP weights I have found tutorials for each of them but I have not found the overall explanation how to think when choosing between them. In my case of the fingers, I started weighing the CPs and planned to do some smartskinning in the next step to tweak it more precisely.... But in the middle of the work I asked myself; Is this a good approach? I am worried that if I combine smartskin and CP weighing it will be confusing, for me, if I afterwards need to correct some unwanted behaviors of the fingers. What is the best pract…

So I'm finally starting to wrap my head around modeling with patches, and now I'm digging into various texturing techniques... https://youtu.be/dVVwayFoPMQ Question: when you apply an image per patch (i.e., by selecting a patch, right-clicking on it, then choosing 'Add Image') can the UV's be adjusted for each patch to better position/size the image? Thanks! Bryan

I think your product looks great. The tutorials really are a good sales tool even if that was not the intention. I was wondering if you could answer a couple of questions before I buy. Maybe I haven't looked closely enough but is there somewhere that gives the specs for the minimum and ideal computer (speed memory etc) that your software will run on? What is your policy on running the program on two different computers . Currently I run large renders (2+ hrs) on a faster computer while I continue to work on another (does this require 2 copies, network license, site license, don't care) While I don't mind copy protection, I do mind registration prote…

Ok, so I'm experimenting with simple walk with my penguin model, and the butt has some serious "junk in the trunk funk" going on. (see screenshot) I'm thinking smartskin would help here but am not sure where to start. Ideas?

I wasn't sure where to place this topic. It's probably already been discussed somewhere. Does A:M function on the Windows 10 platform? I'm upgrading out of necessity and will no longer be on past versions of windows. I doubt I'll downgrade to Windows 7 or 8 on a new system. I will however use A:M on my older systems if it won't run on Windows 10.

Okay so I'm modelling my thing. I've gotten started on putting insides, but I accidentally make a wrong few splines and when I delete them there's still one spline left following the same path as the one already there connecting other splines. I can't deelete this withought screwing up my model. And sometimes I just want to delete other things and it screws up there too. It deletes whole areas of my model from just deleting one vertice. How do I delete it w/o doing thart? How do I delete individual spline segments? Also I'm having through with undoing in the modeller. It alwways goes back a couple steps on the same step I just did and starts to deform it and mess it …

I have a butterfly model. It has an action. I want to create a flock of them. Well I found flocking, it appears in Chor in when you're in muscle mode and right click on a character/ under NEW/Flocking. I chose "birds." Got that far and played with settings, etc. Bounding circle appears around character (light falloff?) but the characters do not appear as a flock...only one character -- I expected to see 15 of them appear, but nothing... obviously I'm doing something wrong here. Any help out there? Thanks, Kem

I restarted a subject I did earlier about fractal sum. I made this Thunderbird and wanted it to have a flare of light and smoke. This isn't that bad, make a small transparant disk and position it at the end of the engine. That is.., if the object is flying one direction all goes well. But the fractalsum asks a lot of calculation, which makes it hard to navigate between the frame position. So after all is planned and I want to change direction at say after 15 sec I have to wait several minutes before my computer has calculated this position. This is a bit weird because after another frame I have to wait again. So I compromised my choreography by shutting down all fra…

So I finally got around to installing my AM v18 update, thought I would check out some of the tutorials however they just pop up a "404 not found" error when launching the tutorial. Are you supposed to just download them from the website instead? As rusty as I am I thought I might benefit from a refresher.

Greetings again everyone Well now I have been trying to do something I asked about a while back http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...mp;#entry297368 Any way I was looking at one of the archives about sprites and so on and saw some posts by Paul Forwood, Johnl3d, and heyvern that I think will work. I don't know how they did it but I LIKE IT!!! Now my question here is, is it possible to control sprites like the attached image? I have attached my sprite emitter to a path, that worked but they still seem to fly all over the place. I also have figured out the 'transparency' to make one fade and the other appear. I have played with the collision thing…

Hi Folks, I am attempting to model a single strand of hair as if seen underneath a microscope in A:M 13.0. I found GREAT example of it done on 3D studio Max, but of course I can't simply import it. I can re-construct in it Hash very well UNTIL it comes to constructing the randomly frayed edges of the hair shaft (see attached). I tried modeling the multiple rings of ragged, jaggy CP placements by hand but it ended up being a tedious that yielded a result not even close to what I need. Is there a wizard/plug-in/technique that will allow me to create random control point position in the x-y-z plane in A:M? I've tried all of the wizards that ship with 13.0 with no su…

I'm working on this exercise today, and it is just brutal trying to get this character into the proper pose. I must have spent a good 20 minutes just getting the initial pose down. Is this something that gets easier the more familiar you are with the character? I'm wondering if there is something I am doing that is making it more difficult than it needs to be.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me figure out how to make part of a model act like a dreadlock or ponytail compared to the rest of the model, for example, if one wanted to make a ponytail with patches instead of using the hair feature, how would they make it so that whenever the head of the model moved, the 'patched ponytail' would move automatically with the head as if it were actual hair, and needed no manual tweaking of the bones within the 'ponytail' every couple of frames? I'm sorry, but is the best way for me to put it. I could show you an example of what I want, I want the dreadlocks on my Predator model to move in relation to the head in a hair like …

Damn SEAMS!!!! Can't get rid of them. Only "seams" to happen with bump mapping. Tried stretching, shrinking the seam in Action to compensate but to no avail. Bump is fine everywhere but the seam. It is an image applied after the color decal using the "add image" function. I expected to get some kind of seam from mapping front and back half of the model but wtf is this? Please see attached and thanks in advance for any help. I can't think of anything else to try.

So I've been away from A:M for a few years and I have the itch to get back into it. So I dug out my A:M 10.5 CD and installed it (I don't have the money to upgrade). It's coming back quickly to me. I am trying to model my coffee table right now, but I'm stuck. Plus I don't think the way I did it was the best way. Here is a pic of my coffee table (please forgive the mess). As you might be able to see, it has rounded edges and corners and there is an indentation with a gold band that goes all the way around. The way I did it was I drew the outline of the profile of the table (Table1.jpg). I then extruded that and stretched it to make a square (Table2.jpg). I then copi…

Started using AM after many years away now that I have more time to devote to animation projects again. I've got this cauldron steaming very nicely and I want to change the color of the steam to pink (love potion) over time. I keyframed the shortcut to the streak emitter's attribute's diffuse color to change over a few frames and I get a lovely gradient of this on the timeline (see pic). Alas, the actual attribute's color remains stubbornly gray. I've tried reloading the project in case things needed to be started from scratch but no joy. I feel I must be missing some simple switch or something. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan

hi all as you know in other topics, i actually haven't the time to play with this wonderfull software to be clear i go make animation with, i bought it for because i think it is the software power but to be clear also, the render seems to be old, gives me the watch of plastic or else. no way to change to blender which is too complicated for me but perhaps do you use in animated shorts some external renderer wich don't consume to much time to render some frames ? anyway i go soon learn it and i am happy to be of yours, because of the good persons i met here and the software abilities regards

Hi, Having played around with pose sliders and building sub-assemblies I decided to start working on Bone Constraints. Looked easy enough - first mistake. Looked far too easy. Here is the model that I am using It has 1 bone, and all the CPs are allocated to that bone. Previously, I used a pose slider to allow the model rotate around the bone (i.e. along Z), so now want to do it with a bone constraint. Selected the bone and set up the constraints So far so good. I set up an action to test it out and when I selected it, there was just one ring to manipulate the model as I had hoped. However, I then tried dropping the model into a choreogr…

Hello all, I been using AM for a few weeks now, gone through most all the tuts except the more comlex ones. Have a question, I was creating a model after the "Thom" model just to work on my modeling and the 5 point patch technique(and also to practice attaching arms, etc.) It was going well, I saved the project, all looked well in wireframe and shaded mode. I saved and closed the project, went to grab a drink and came back a bit later and opened. Here is what I saw... Hello everyone. I've purchased A:M, the yearly sub option, and am diving into some tutorials. I'm going through Fuchur's tutorial here. It's a project-based tutorial, which is my favorite kind, so I'm looking forward to working through it. I've hit a bump, however. I located a couple versions of Zevel via a forum search here, but none of the versions I found seem to be recognized by A:M. I have it installed to the HXT folder, and I've closed and re-opened the program, but it doesn't show in the list when I right-click on the spline. Is it maybe an outdated? Is there an updated version that works with v19? I can bypass the beveling steps if necessary. No big de…

Okay folks. In keeping with the tradition of follow up questions to #hash3d lectures we are going to open the floor for questions. Here's your chance to query Martin Hash on A:M related topics. The rules are a little different with this follow up. Let me explain why. Since we are all sitting in what might be considered Martin's living room chatting with the creator of Animation:Master we need to remember that forum rules still apply and the same courtesy given to other lecturers should be extended to Martin too. If your question disappears... don't take offense... reconsider what you asked and consider a different question. While it may not be expedient…

Hello Everyone, I have a question about how A:M can be like Auto CAD. (if there is a section about this then please let me know or direct me) (sorry) Years ago I used Auto CAD / Inventor and it was the easiest program to use to make any object. I liked how that in the program I can make a basic object and edit it in a breeze by clicking on parts and setting a measurement and it would auto correct and align itself. An example would be a simple Lego piece. I can make a block and add 1 cylinder at a corner. Then I can simply click on the block and type in the measurements to make a rectangle, and then click on the cylinder and input how many to copy/ paste and …

I have a question about keyframes because I think I keep doing something wrong. I've completed exercise six "The door is stuck" and exercise seven "Can you say that",and I keep running across the same problem. When I put a keyframe in for a particular animation, say at frame 00:03:00, for some reason, the action wants to go back retroactively all the way to the beginning frame,00:00:00, to start it's motion; not at the point where I put the keyframe. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a bug in the software which requires a patch?

So I've made my 2nd bouncing ball attempt: http://homepage.mac.com/somniac/.Pictures/bball2.mov Of note is that the first two bounces should be perfect. That's because I made an Excel spreadsheet that applies the Equations of Motion: Download Spreadsheet By typing in the first contact coordinates, and then the coordinates of the first apex, as well as the coefficient of restitution, (as long as the x-coordinates stay positive) and the number of frames between the first contact and the first apex, it computes up to the first 20 frames (for now) and the coordinates of the 2nd apex. Now the problem: You'll notice the third bounce looks like crap! …

Did you know... There are more than 12 different ways to add a spherical shape or model into a project in A:M? (and there are a few more when we consider the variations on those). Here are some basic approaches: - Double Click on a Sphere in the Library - Drag and Drop a Sphere from the Library to the Choreography window - Drag and Drop from anywhere in your computers file system or desktop into A:M - Use the Primitive Wizard - Import a Sphere Model (via one of the many different ways possible) - Import a Sphere Prop (STL, 3DS, OBJ, etc.) - Borrow the Sphere from another project (copy/paste from Model to Model) - Use the Duplicator Wizard (also very u…

I wonder how many people use the Mac version of A:M? A:M is turning out to be the best animation package I have ever used, but the interface is in desperate need of an update. First, I can't get the Mac version to work in a window; it just goes full-screen and hides the dock. This is a no-no in Mac Interface design. Second, I would prefer a darker GUI, and more eye pleasing icons. Third there is a big bug in the Mac Version. After the first time you use the Open/Save dialog, it becomes unusable. It just won't let you choose another folder or do anything else with the mouse. Clearly this is a great program, and probably very few people use the Mac version, s…

Ok, I'm going for a real simple IK leg rig. Here is what I've done so far: 1. Moved the left and right foot to the same level as the pelvis (hips) 2. First of all, let me say that A:M is pretty amazing-- the very first thing I've tried to model (after being away from 3D art for over 5 years and never having used A:M before) is actually coming out way better than I expected. On the other hand-- it also has some major issues. So-- as the attached images show, I have some weird stuff going on with my topology, and when the model is rendered, it has nasty creases all over it. I'm looking for some pointers on how to manage topology in A:M, and, more importantly, how to go back and fix things after the fact. Can someone point me to some good tuts on this, or where I should look in the manual for guidane? Thanks! …

Hi, Hopefully someone can help me with this one. I've created a " Mountain " model that has a large number of decals to create it's surface appearance. Everything looks great in the modeling and choreography windows, but when it renders, there are areas that the decals are not visible and I'm getting a solid color. I've tried reapplying and adding new, but those areas still will not show the decals. I'm rendering at 1440 x 1080 and using one pass. I've tried multi passing, but get the same results. HELP ! Thank you.
