DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

First- I can't find anything for font in plug-ins. Can anyone help me with putting together a sporting event tunnel. The type that football players walk onto the field through except this is going to be for boxing. I would like about 2 or 3 turns in it and be able to show clips at different spots on the walls. I'm hoping to find someone to help me with it. I'm just getting into Hash so it's tough for me but I'm sure it'll be easy for someone who knows what they're doing. Thanks, Ron

Hello, I know this have been covered before, but I'm not getting it. I followed the tutorial several times, but it does not work for me. I made a simple model. I followed the steps for bounding the bones. But when I apply an action to it, it freaks out! Does v14 resolve any of this? I know I must be missing something, but I have no idea what. Any help would be great! **The biggest problem is the legs, the knees bend backwards. I didn't rotate any bones, so I don't know how that could happen.

I have worked through the tutorial in TAoAM on how to install the 2001 rig. and applied it to a simple model I have built. At the end of the tutorial it says " You may have to assign ~CP's to finger bones" but it doesn't explain how or where to look to find how to do that ? There is an earlier reference using the rabbit model to how to use the hand controls of the 2001 rig but I didn't see an explanation of how to assign points to the elaborate controls. I am probably missing something that is very obvious here but, could somebody point me to an explanation or tutorial on how to assign CP's to the hands in the 20001 rig ? I've got around it before …

i'm trying to add the 2001 skeleton rig to my model in AM v15 and everything seems to work till i start messing with the hands. i've never messed with the hand bones outside of the TAOAM tutorials but from what i gather after going through the forums and examining lady_goodbody.mdl, i have unhid all the hand bones including X finger bone 1, 2, 3 and started assigning the bones of finger to control points rather than assigning them to the general finger. my problem is that when i try to use the right or left hand clench in an action the fingers distort wildly into a mashed up ball at 1% and doesn't change at all between 1-100%. i've tried opening up the 2001 skeleton…

I just recieved a leaflet saying I can upgrade to the 2006 version for $99. If only. lol. Unfortuantely I was one of the stupid ones who wouldn't put the time or effort into learning a diffirent way of modelling. Something I have regretted ever since. I was one of those prize idiots who sent my copy back. I keep popping in by the forums just to see the amazing stuff that folks have done. So even though I am not a user I have been grabbed by the bug that refuses to leave me. lol. If and when I get fixed up by the docs and can go back to work, rest assured I will be an Animation Master user. Keep up the good work folks. Cheers Mike R

Hash Inc is currently distributing the Extra DVD with 2007 upgrades. With over 3.5 Gigabytes of A:M resources there is a whole lot to see. I finally started looking through the content and was surprised to see my robot sentry! (eeek!) The sentry has the distinction of being one of the first models I created in A:M and as such is sure not much to look at. He's an almost entirely lathed character that harkens back to the time before I felt comfortable with extrusion. Now lathing... that I thought I understood. Still, I must admit it gave me a thrill to see that old model there on the Extra DVD. He's a bit embarrasing to look at but I'm proud of him. W…

Each year for the past few years the New Users Forum has ran a raffle. This year there is no \'New Users\' Forum per se and the raffle is changing a little. The goals of the raffle are threefold: 1) Encourage New Users to join in the community 2) Encourage completion of the exercises in the manual (The Art of Animation:Master) 3) Get into Animation:Master! My plan is to run three raffles. You can win more than one but how likely is that? First raffle will be a $50 gift certificate at the Hash Inc online store. (My recommendation... a SIGGRAPH video!) Eligiblity requirements: - Must be a 2007 subscriber (Oz characters on the CD) - Post in…

Hi, I've installed the 2008 Skeletal Rig into one of my characters (as best as I could). However, it's a really complex rig with lots of constraints and other things going on with it. Other than the install instructions, are there any other instructions, or tutorials on how to use it properly? Other than that, is that the most up to date character rig publicly available for AM? Thanks! Tommy

Hi everyone. I'm trying to model this very basic shape, whatever it is, and I somehow made a 3-point patch, I've no idea how, but I need to do it again, I checked on boards and in TAOM but there's no mention of 3-point patches. All I got is "a patch must be composed of at least 3 points, but no more than 4." If I draw a simple 3-point spline, it won't make a patch when I change to Shaded mode, but this one does, I copied the three splines and pasted them a little farther in my image to show what I mean. Another thing I noticed about that is that the copied version seems to be, very clearly, fatter than the original. The shape wasn't altered in any way. I th…

this is a pre-emptive strike; i was just wondering if anyone is currently working with floating point images and has experience and perhaps dos and don'ts to share? i'm sure it's a breeze to find render settings etc pin pointy info on these boards but was just curious of all the other stuff that usually pops up along the way. i'm on a pc, vista home, don't mind the renders and recently bought the subscription to 15h. i'm used to AE but this is my first time in A:M. the project is fantastically devoid of visual detail, nearly black&white&grey with a little blue and green. have just spent a couple of hours watching cutout animations on the net and as a re…

Hi - I have a possible client who wants a talking 3D character created that when you go on the page - he shows up at the bottom of the page with a transparent background so you can see the site through him. This is exactly his idea, but with an actual person: http://www.onsitevideos.com can I export out of AM as images with a transparent background? Would I import those directly into flash w/ trans back? Or would I export the anim w/ a blue-screen background color and key it out in Premiere... but then what in premiere - export them out as images... I don't think you can export a .mov file w/ trans back. Anyway, and help or suggestions would be grea…

To do this, we import Illustrator files as editable splines and texture and extrude the logo's faces. As i use A:M at home, I'd like to know if anyone has tried this function?

Ive been having issues with painting the models. When in normal mode and I go to paint, lets say a normal round brush, it is distored horribly either long ways or widthwise. SO then I do Projection painting and it looks great however when it goes to accpet not only does it distort what was painted but it also will mirror what was painted on one side on to the other. I tried breaking the head decale in two two seperate decales on front and one back and painted them accordingly but if I painted on lets say the back of the head with the back of head decale then it still copies over to the front decale even though it was never to be painted. If there is an instructional site…

I'm interested in getting the look of 5 frames per second animation, with no interpolation. I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to do this. For example, I can set the FPS in A:M to 5 FPS and render an AVI file. I'm not sure what is in the AVI file -- is it just 5 frames of data per second of action, or is it translated to 30 frames per second for display purposes? Or is that a meaningless question. I guess to display my animation on TV, I need to make a DVD, which requires using a DVD-making program that will input an AVI file. I'm wondering if the 5 FPS avi file I make with A:M will be interpreted correctly by the DVD-making program to create a…

Evening All from windswept, dark and wet West Cork (Ireland), Maybe it is the weather, but the computer beckoned today and I hauled myself into learning AM again. Nothing difficult but I am again banging the sore head against a harder wall than before. Been trying to cut a hole in a model and had varying levels of success - so much so I decided to get back to basics and see if I could fathom what I was doing wrong. Did a very simple outline, used an 8-sector lathe and formed a simple 3-d model. Cut a hole in either side and then started filling in 5 point patches. To me (uninitiated) both holes were created exactly the same way. The First Hole: All 5 p…

It was suggested that I start a new topic thread on 5 point patches. It is an issue that evidently keeps popping up. In searching the archives I found A couple of suggested remedies (hitting the period key twice, among others) that haven't seemed to work for me. The situation has cropped up, for me at least, while doing exercises 10:The FW-190 Fighter , 11: the Giraffe, and 11.5: Make A Face from ToaA:M. When I click on the 5-point patch button (at the right side tool bar) the cursor acquires a '5-point patch" icon and the button goes dark, but no matter where or how I click with the 5-point cursor nothing happens and the cursor returns to normal. Fee…

How come sometimes when I want to create a five point patch, the interface won't allow it? Can you not have two five point patches touching each other? (sharing a commone spline segment). I got it to work...does the order that you select the points make a difference?

I'm having some difficulties with 5 points and turning them in a 5 point patch. Either i'm doing something wrong (most likely cause) or have a problem in my model that that I'm unable to spot. From what I know, to create a 5 point spline you need 5 splines connected to one another forming a closed loop. This is a portion of a hand, or where the fingers meet the hand. 3x 5-point patches between each finger on each side of the hand. A few of those 5 point patches are not working. I got 5 points selected, but the button remains grayed out. Normally, I select the 5 points by manually click on them one by one. If the button fails to light up, I hide ev…

1. I've set up an environment for my character, and I've found it to be really laggy with only some of the props in there (there's alot of trees). Is there a way for me to turn off the trees or something so I can animate my character without all the lag? and then turn them back on when it's time to render? Hi everybody. While I'm new to the forums, I've been using AM since v9 in 2002 and was planning to upgrade to the 2006 version. So please bear with me as some of these questions might seem elementary. I was wondering what exactly the v12.Op Installer available at this site did, and whether that was the same as ordering the 2006 upgrade from the AM flyer that recently came in the mail. One thing that kinda worried me was accidentally scratching the AM CD, and having to buy the whole thing over again. It happened once before, with my 2002 CD. I had the Complete Guide to AM:2002 by David Rogers and the 2002 program itself, and was content to stick with that…

[1] How much influence does the dpi of a texture have on the speed of a render? On the one hand, a common-sense answer would be 'a lot', but often in these matters, the intuitive answer is not how it really is. I'm staggering along with a mere half-Gig of RAM. More is in the works, but I need some 300dpi textures for walls where a camera is going to be close. [2] Sometimes, in complicated areas where there are a lot of CP's [or I'm not zoomed in close enough] I move 95% of an object and the rest stays. I do a CRTL_Z, and all is well, but when I look at the model in wireframe, the CP's that didn't move are bright blue instead of red. They'll turn green when s…

So I'm not fully comprehending what in the world this problem is. I've been running through the tutorials in the book. They've really been helping me out, but I got a problem. On lesson 5, where you learn how to create loops such as walking, running, sitting, and etc. Well, I was pasting the final frames, you know, where the mirror pasting is put, and I made a mistake. I accidentally placed a mirrored paste, when I wanted a normal paste. So I quickly did undo, and tried to paste... It wouldn't work, I don't know what it is. For some reason, it just wont let me paste on the final frame. I tried deleting the frame, and so on. I'm working within the time line setup up of man…

Well, first off, I'm completely clueless when it comes to just about everything on animation master. I know very simple things, such as the mirror button... which is the only way i know of to make my work 3-D. One of my problems. Question #1: How can you make images that arent the same all the way around-- I ask this stupid question because when you use mirror say you drew half a square, it turns it into a cylinder shaped figure. I know if you mess around with it, you could get it back to say, a cube shape, but I'm sure theres some easier way. Question #2: This may be normal, or not able to be changed, but when i go into shaded mode, my picture is not smooth…
