As the title says, this is the linkage used by steam locomotives to allow them to move forward or in reverse. The idea of splining the convoluted shapes and transitions intimidated me so much that I kept putting off starting them for months. But I finally bit the bullet and I think they can stand up to an arm's length inspection. The quasi rectangular frame (which is about 6 ft. long) has a close approximation of the final cast iron texture for all the parts but the Playdough colours on the other parts are just to ease inspection.

I have been setting up a scene for my logo animation. In part of the scene the main character will throw an object into a cup. There will be other objects in the cup and I want them to bounce around inside the cup. I am not getting Newton Physics at all. I have seen others accomplish some neat things. I have d/l the pdf tutorial and can not get it to apply to what I am wanting to do. Any help? Steve Here is a shot of the room

Hi - finished up 2 more teeth animations for the dentist - these two had more modeling involved, so they were more fun to do. They are located on my site in the lower middle section "3D Flash Demonstrations" - #2 and #3 are the new ones. The "non surgical tooth advancement" one was pretty challenging getting all the metal tooth components to work properly and look good. The "porcelain onlay" one came out pretty cool - I had to model the machine used to grind down the onlay and show it grinding it down and appear as if water was spraying on the inside - and use different color lights for the different stages. This turned out way better than I had any right to expect. I'm working on a large, beaux arts style, arch that needs a keystone with a classical human figure carved in it. Looking for inspiration on the Web, I came across a free 3D model of a nicely proportioned and posed female figure, unfortunately in 3DS format. After waiting almost 8 hrs. for it to import into A:M (47,000 patches, 8.3 Mb model) I knew that I couldn't add any new splines to the model since finding patches and aligning normals took a LONG time. All I could do was apply aaver's normal map material and render out a rotoscope. Using the rotoscope as a guide, I built surrounding splinage to smooth…

Hello Fellow A:Mers, and thank you for your time and assistance with my problem (beyond my own stupidity, of course). After recently upgrading to v15, one of my projects has lost all of its 'roundness'. Everything in the model now contains harsh edges, even spheres have become a lot of little straight lines from CP to CP. I did check to see if the Peak and Smooth controls would help, but alas, I cannot find an answer. I have opened some of the models that came with the program, like KeeKat, and he has not suffered any 'loss of roundness'(sorry I cannot describe this any better). BUT, when I do render my model, he returns to the nice smooth creature he was…

This is a new image I've been working on as part of a redesign of my site. (January is turning out to be a slow work month.) "Trails" took a bit over 24 hours to render on a single 1.8Ghz G5, with 16-pass oversampling. It's lit with five dub lights and the practical below the peak of the roof. The clouds are a seperate layer, to simplify things, and because I wasn't sure how much work I'd need to do on them in Photoshop. (I ended up applying a half-pixel gaussian blur, but that was it.) I wanted to try out the new rig on Shaggy. The rig works very nicely, I made an extensive use of IK FK switching, and it's IK FK OK friendly. The hand rig is great. I picked up the 11second club sound file, and I have put many hours since. Shaggys.mov Michel

Was trying a few different things tonight. Photoshop and Winmorph and of course AM morphed a face and applied it as a decal then set some poses in the chor original model face belonged to eddie on the cd wanted to see how well it would work beside the fact that the decal morph has a few flaws it worked okay check it out sort of pre halloweenish decaltest.mov

Hi, i put a post in V11.1 but how i cant upload the file, open new post here to upload The problem is that: - I can´t make -> Object -> New -> Pose -> Percentage, because in Percentage, A:M crashes... I don´t know what happends.. i follow the videotutorial (lipsync) but.. dont work... Now.. upload the file (or can see the other post in the v11.1 section)

Been working with AM for a while off and on (trying to be as much "on" as possible more recently). This is my take on "The Door's Stuck". If anyone could take a look at it and tell me what you think, I'd appreciate it. this is the second piece with my animated self-portrait. Mostly it was a test to see how easily a second mo-cap session could be dropped on the puppet. My approach tries to do all adjustment on the puppet, rather than the mo-cap data. The goal is to just drop the action on the character and be 95% done. The reality was only about 85%, but that's not bad for a first shot. Here's a wip I have of a Bath tub project for Automation. This is what I wanted to use the 2 sided patch on but had to make an inner skin as instead. David EDIT: I don't know why the .m1v files play slowly (unless it's just my computer). It's too bad cause I get really good compression using them. tub2.m1v

Hey out there In one of the WIP threads (about the biker character I think) I was very impressed w/ the clay texture. I don't really have any money to buy texture packs unless they are reasonably priced (say $50) and was trying to think of ways to fake it. Would I be able to scan in some modelling clay and use that as a basis for a texture? Maybe also as a displacement map? I would rather use an algorithmic texture if its going to produce better results. thanks Roger

The theme here, for me, was a sort of political cartoon in CG. It's title is Heaven's City Desk It's purpose was twofold... a tribute to my Uncle, George Murray, and a tribute to the fallen heroes of the "Fourth Estate" from last year. Hey Hashers! I did not know what to get you all for Xmas and you were ALL on my list...so I made a neat little model! This is a graphic firework (see movie for example) that is safe so you won't blow your fingers off. The effect makes use of Hash's boolean feature to reveal and unreveal the burst. You can make your own bursts to change things up... There are 2 poses with the model- 1 reveals the burst and the other UNreveals it... HAVE FUN! Have a VERY Spliney Holidays! I'm working on a QT virtual river tour that will be part of a world wide river resource website. The idea is to document your river any way you like, using QTVR. I chose the Capilano River in North Vancouver, Canada. I'm posting this here, for crits, because I have'nt yet found a good place to get crits from the VR folks. Usually before I mess around with things, I like to fully understand how things work... well, after awhile I finally decided to jump in and just mess with things in AM. I learned a lot from the experience so far, and it has been a ton of fun, so I hope to continue in the future. Anyway, here is a short animation of Thom doing some sort of umm... exercise or something. (more like a very crappy gymnast's routine). Well, I just spent the last hour in my burning hot room slaving over Animation Master and got the following: Rollian Fight Scene -Just click the Fight Scene movie. The clip is seven seconds long, not bad for an hour of work . Ok, most people will comment about the flying sword , but I didn't plan out the rig right so when the hand moves, the sword moves , oops . Enjoy and let me know what I might do to fix any problems.

This is a Problem-and-a-half. The main question is How to use Forces, the 'half' is 'Why Has My @#%* Snow Emmitter Stalled?' Starting with the 'half', it's a straightforward Streaks Material dropped onto a single-patch plane. It's worked before. Now, no matter what value I enter on the Y-axis the snow doesn't want to fall. The main question is how to employ Forces. I got a Force into the Objects Folder and then to Choreography. In its Properties, it looks like any light. I set the height and cone. In the PWS, Force looks like a vehicle for adding Turbulence. I chose Cell Turb and punched in some trial values. Am I on the right track here? Seems too simple. LANDSCAP…

After many long, hard hours and very little sleep, I finally finished Creation Museum Montage for Answers in Genesis (AiG). This video opens with a 3D-animated logo sequence that I really like above all other logo animations that I've done. Until I get my credit card working again on SoundDogs.com, I can't buy the short version of the music for just the logo. So I'll post a high quality render of just the logo animation later. I'm quickly putting together a promotional brochure for our project to show a producer on Friday.
