I decided to look at bvh files and got one and used shaggy in a very rough attempt to get the feel for using the bvh action. I only matched four points of shaggy to the file which you can see since i did it in shaded mode so it is not very good but you get the idea 653k bvh.mov

Hello everyone. My first post here. I'm a 3D artist working in the midwestern US. I've developed a character that I'm intending to cast in a short film when I get the time. Please feel free to critique, rip, or flatout dislike, the image. I'd love to know what people think. ~Dan

Hey there. I am new... So, please excuse dumb questions. Here is my head model. The head on the left has a diffuse decal over the face, the other one does not. (See attached picture) Short of applying the diffuse map to the entire body, how do I smooth this transition? Just smooth the diffuse map out at the corners? What are shaders? Would that help? Any other general comments? This is my first try... I guess after this I a rig her? b pose her? c bone her? d attach to a body that is boned or not. Help - I would eventually like to animate her. Sorry for the newbie questions. Melissa

This was my attempt at speed modeling. WARNING: Splines in project file below are poorly built and illogical. These were Speed-Splines as I was timing myself to see how long this would take. (1.5hrs). Regards, Eugene

Here's a cat I've been working on. He'll be looking as real as I can do. He's just being made down to his skin right now so try to picture him with some hair. Also the shinyness is just so I can see lumps better to work them out. It'll be taken off in the end. Any critiques are welcome.

Hi guys, check out http://www.cgunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96 CGUnderground has green-lit the short film that I am making using Animation Master. They are hosting a permanent forum for the short film. On top of that they will host a webpage for it and place two interviews on thier site about it. http://www.cgunderground.com/ There is a persistant link to the forum discusion about the making of the film on thier front page. This is the film that I am working on with apprentices David Higgins and Chris Wheeler whom I've been teaching to animate using Animation Master as a result of the Mentoring program that David Rogers launched here in the H…

I was so inspired by Will Sutton's tree - that I had to give it a go. I had a leftover tree from when I was playing around with Marcel Bricman's Treez plugin - added hairy foilage - (2 emitters, 2 diffuse color decals) - When I rendered - decided I didn't like the colors - went into photoshop - changed to Grayscale, added the mountain horizon in the background - tweaked the contrast - Produced something very unusual for me - not cartoony - not really real - but pseudo-tromp-d'oeil... Will also post the original rendering

I have this school project and I need to draw some scetches for it, so why not do it in AM to make an impression? the only prob I got is that I need my flat area to be filled with grass and prefferebly also some sand/rocks. My questions are: what's the best way to create grass? and how do I create sand? Here's the space I need to fill out:

I'm working on a web site for a gentlemen that carves wooden Santa characatures and he wanted an animated Santa that would dance to "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and I told him "I can use one of your carved santas" (perfect job for A.M.) So I took a digital picture of one of his carved Santas and mapped it to a grid (billboard) and added a simple skeleton and proceeded to make him groove - including a "bowl-full-of-jelly" laugh just 30 frames and I'm pretty happy with the results (It looks like one of his wooden sculptures dancing!) My problem is I'm trying to get him rendered on a (pure 255,255,255) white background (without any sort of gradient) and WITH a s…

Im trying to make a stack of cardboardboxes to tip over when one of my characters run into it.. Do anyone have an idea how to make this? I have made a test (done in 15min) that is CRAPPY (bad movements and they overlap each other). The way I did it was that I made one cardboardbox.. The I used that in a new action and multiplyed it by using action objects.. then i started to move them around.. Is there a better way to do this??? pls help test: esker.mov

Wookie Dance This just uses the same .bvh mocap ZachBG posted in the resuable motion forum. Since it worked with 2001 skeletons I just had to try it out on the wookie. It's not perfect (the arm passes through his face/body a couple times) but this is about the best I've been able to get hair to render in an animation. Plus a wookie dancing to some MJ is just plain funny. Kevin

Hey all, I finally finished another character. I don't got a name for it YET but I was hoping maybe one of you can come up with a cool name . Anyway here it is: Took me about half a day to model, texture and completely rig it. Now for the fun part! Animating! I wanted to make a simple character to practice my animation skills and this is it. Now I was hoping you all could give me at least one thing to do with him . So far I got: Pushing a box (make it so that it looks like he is struggling to push it) and jumping off a building. Thats it . Now I could think of probably a few more but I thought it would be cool if everyone could tell me what to animate wit…

So I have mostly finished building my fleet of racing jets, and would now like to race them through some large canyons or possibly fjords, with maybe a mountain range thrown in for good measure. The jets should move about 250m/s so the canyon will have to be large indeed. I have my old AM 2000 book, and it mentions rebumpx, but I am not sure how compatable it is with v11. Any thoughts on good relatively recent tutorials on how to build mountains and valleys?

I was thinking about models and modeling and had a question for the group. Has anyone taken an old model and reworked the Cps to produce a new model. Not added or removed CPs, but just relocated the existing CPs to create a new character. What I'm thinking is that it takes probably as much time to decal, bone, rig, smart skin, etc as it does to build the underlying mesh, so would it be reasonable to take an existing mesh, with all the decals, bones, rigs, etc already set up and reposition CPs to give the model a new appearance. There is always the potential that the smart skin may not act correctly since the CP positions have changed, but most of the rest sh…

This is a sphere off the cd with a simple gradient combiner material applied. I added pose sliders to the threshold and start and end points of the gradient and the transparency of one of the attributes. I was trying different settings with simple colors. To demo what they do I changed the sliders to different values every 10 frames with no real pattern and rendered a quick qt I'll post the project in next response grad.mov

I wanted something different in our band video. There was a piece in the talent show that was not G rated. I wanted to remove it and have fun with it. So, I exported a screen shot, put it in as a rotoscope, added Keekat, and did a voice over (Sound Forge 7 with pitch change). It took a little to get the render settings to work. No shadow yet, but it is not that important on the floor. Thought I would share. Attached is a wmv in a zip. chhskeekat.zip

http://www.campbellanimation.com/ We've been talking about BVH Mo-Cap down in the 'reusable motion' forum, and inspired by Zach Brewster-Geisz and Colin Freeman's cool animations and guided by Will Sutton's motion capture tutorial I was able to browse free BVH files thru bvhfiles.com via their 'BVHplayer utility' , import it into A:M and constrain it to my TSM2 rigged character. My character (Gurly Girl) also has long V11 hair so the effect of the hair on the real motion is...I think...pretty cool. But then, I like bus fumes too. If you were to mix MoCAP and hand animation... whooaaa! Have a look...give me some feedback...bad or good...I can take it...just …

I'm working on a Australian Shepherd model and I'm trying to add hair to the model but I'm wondering is there an easy way to control the hair color? The hair lengths isn't right yet either, but that is such a tedious task to adjust so I'm saving that for later. Correct me if I'm wrong or leaving out an option, but I can control the color of the hair either by: 1.) Model Surface patch color. 2.) Surface color of the hair material. 3.) A image in the Hair material. I was hope was that if I decaled the surface with colors I wanted, those colors would translate to the hair color but that doesn't seem to be the case. A bunch of decals with alphas channels to …

Hi, ya all For the last three weeks I have been putting a ridiculous amount of time into my first short It's called "CLOTHESLINE" It's a romantic comedy about a sex starved desert roaming psycho I have 8 shots done, well almost done I still have to go back and fix intersections and what not (out of 10) and may add a couple more but at this point I am pretty sure I will finish, if I keep making enough coffee It will be about two minutes long, includes three characters and be rendered in version 12 to take advantage of the new composite and cloth features. oh, and its timed to Rush 2112 This is the third shot shot 3

Ok, let me get this straight. We are supposed to think in three dimensions, learn to model, apply hair, texture, decal, bone, rig, animate, operate a camera, set up lighting, learn the physics of photon mapping. Then every year a new version comes out with features we have to figure out all over again. It sounds like fun. Anyway here is my latest attempt at making a realistic face.

While I'm waiting to get my Robot fixed I began working on these rotoscopes. They are inspired/copied from an old Golden Age cartoon "The Fox and the Crow." I've always loved crow characters. I found when I was doing my robot that not having a rotoscope was too much freedom and not enough structure, and I got bogged down since I had no direction so I'm hoping this will help. I want a decent rotoscope that will help me plan out the splines, which was another issue I had. Someone said (I think it was the guy who did the Osprey) that you should always work from a rotoscope. Anyway, here it is - any comments are appreciated that you think might improve it, or anythi…
