If you have the bandwidth or time to kill I've posted a short animation on my ISP websight. I'm not sure how many hits they will allow so I'm curious to find out. The animation is one I started for one of the contests and didn't finish in time (or yet for that matter). http://users.adelphia.net/~chipotle/ Before I go back to lurking I must thank all you tutorial writers and tip givers. From Jeff Canton on, you're all very helpful . Pepper

Howdy all A.M.'s rendering of bump and normal maps is quite good. To all the newbies (I'm one too.) texturing in A.M. is fairly easy to learn once you understand decaling in A.M. sense. I use a combination of 3D painter and some 2d work. Also Shader Map Pro to produce the bump and normal maps from the texture map. I hope to make a texturing tutorial for newbies in the near future.

Hello... (excuse my English) This is my first post on the Forum. I started to work on a animated short idea I have. Here is the link for one of the first tests: www.roundbox.net/short/old_guy3.avi This is one of the last scenes on the short, but is the first one I have animated. Every comment is welcome. Ok, maybe this thread will take on a life of its own (I hope). I'll start off with a lighting tip I've learned that saves COUNTLESS hours and increases the accuracy of my lighting solutions. NOTE: I can't remember from where i learned htis, but it's certainly NOT an original idea. However, I've rarely ever have seen anyone mention it in relationship to AM, and hardly anyone explains this when teaching others to light an image Ever wanted a sort of "real time" method to investigate your light levels while looking at a FINISHED render? Got a tough problem in adjusting the level of 6 lights to that precise level? PROBLEM SOLVED: Render out a still using each …

While I was continuing work on my Superman model I had a stop at Image comics booth during the San Diego Comic Con, and got to talking to the great creative team that makes a superb comic called "Invicinble". As a study in how quickly I could take my Superman and turn him into Invincible's dad, "OmniMan" (he's their worlds Superman) I created this image. About 3 hours work. He's got a new face sculpt and new face map (based on my face this time). The funny thing is, he kinda reminds me of my dad...with a mustache...<<image missing>>...hopefully the guys at Invincible will dig it and put it in their book...fingers crossed...now back to Superman. - pjc

More from my 'mindless trash' department... stuff I whittle away at while doing mundane corporate stuff to keep me from going over the edge... This is a WIP... still fiddling with SSS and you can see I get the black 'glitchies' now and then- don't know what that is. Several renders pop-on and off on this as I whittle away and weeks turn into months. OH- and here's a fun GIF with the same 'party girl' character, made with the same BVH action as I have on the girl in my avatar... a drunk walk: global.mov

Here is little something I found out looking through my hard drive. For obvious reasons his name is Mikke Musse This is 30's version of the character that I really like, except for the eyes whish have lids... This character was made as modeling and constraining exercise, He has old rig inside him, and dos not have phonemes or other muscle poses, you will have to pull the constraints slider to constrain him... I Hope that you'll like Mike I would be very glad to see if anyone comes out with something funny and cute with him, and if someone decides to pop in TSM 2 rig inside, I wouldn't mind to have it for playing. Here it is (MDL) Drvarc…

Ones this projected started out by trying to find a way to do fast and fun animations. The character(s) had to be as easy as possible to animate. Why not use one cell - a one celled organism - the ones who started life on earth. I Googled on it and found: http://www.4to40.com/earth/geography/index...orldunderwater2 And they seemed to have some sexual life too: When the animal wants to have young, it simply splits into two, and each part goes its own way. And they were also dangerous some of them: Some of these flagellate animals can be a nuisance and may even be dangerous. Well they looked a bit like human beings our first ancestors: Some fl…

Hi everybody, Since there`s no special game section around here, I am going to post my questions here. I would like to do some quite simple little online games, I don`t need realtime 3D ,so a real gameengine would be overkill. What`s in my mind for instance, are some imagesequences you activate by mouseclick or rollover, for example on rollover the figure starts to walk, then when you click on the character it jumps in the air, also I would need some kind of clock for the timelimit and some accidental generator that the scenes get exchanged from click to click. I think all this can be done with Macromedia directors Lingo and put online with the…

Hello - After trying to use decals for facial expressions I decided to go the modeling route. So.... Attached is the star of a short I'm working on. Posting for your comments as to: 1) How does this character's personality read? 2) What is this character? 3) I'm wondering how this simple environment plays? 4) I need to fix his pointy pupils, I know. I'm trying for simplicity and fun. My goal is to animate this fella. Thanks for any thoughts. Doug

Hello Everyone ... I thought I would share a new animation that I have created. It is for an educational project in development called "Astronomy 101" and is geared towards ages 8-11. The movie clip is called "The Introduction" and ...well ... "introduces" most of the cast as well as the background story . Please visit and take a look if you can. I am especially interested in some feedback from those of you with kids in that age catagory (8-11). Please excuse some of the "cheesy" graphics and special effects ... but I think it is still watchable. EDIT: Opps ... I had the wrong ages in the original post. Ages 8-11 are the target. Thanks to everyone for your t…

I have been working on a small animation. I am rendering the animation in version 19 netrender. Netrender worked very well in the process but I ran across OpenMP. I saw this setting in the options as well. I selected the setting during the rendering and it after rendering without. The first rendering took about 21 minutes. The second with OPen MP selected took 19:42. Is this setting active and taking advantage of the hardware or is getting ready for the future? Also I notice the dialog box for GPU rendering can be selected. Is this just a place holder as well? Steve

Hello to all - I have been working on my first short short film for a couple months now and finally decided to consolidate my posting regarding it in this thread. Operation:Sphinx is code for my yet unnamed toon. It follows the story of a creature as it lands on a planet unknown to it, and we witness a surprising discovery. As of today, the shot sequence is done and I am currently working on props and finishing the storyboards. And of course, i'm doing a slew of animation tests with the main character. I'm new to all aspects of filmmaking so this project is going to take me a while. I'll be halting production for tutorials and other collaboration…

The prisma marker would have taken some time and the smell would of been nauseating. I used to do presentation for architecture and tho I love that part of creating the art work, it was the smell and messy hands that I could do without. I think making the ro…

Seeing Johnl3D's Opus inspired me to start working on mine again. I'm still bothered by creases, but I'm starting to feel like maybe I'm getting the hang of splining. Still don't have the mouth done, but I've made some progress. Here are some pics. This is kind of a fake; I'm only doing half and will CFA when it's closer to being done. I just put two instances of the model in the chor and scaled one of them -100 on the x axis.

Orange Lilies As some may recognize, this was my contest entry for April. I almost didn't enter it since it is seriously flawed but I ran into several problems that couldn't be fixed or worked around in any timely fashion. However, the painterly aspect I was striving for shows and I am loathe to abandon the image so as the spirit moves me, I will continue to improve upon it. First, the trees will all be replaced, hopefully by trees created in AM with the TreeeZ plugin. These were created in XFrog and imported into AM as props. The problem is that the leaves on the trees do not render correctly - the alpha channel is ignored. I don't know if this a problem with t…

I took a break from rigging Kong to work on another great ape. Avalanche Software donated the orangutan model to the extra DVD (and other models), but it had no hair material. So far this is what I have. I haven't done any grooming yet. Any "grooming" look you see is through the dynamic settings. Still need to adjust the length and density in areas and adjust the hair group. I'll probably never get it to look as good as Avalanche, but I'll certainly try. There's also a monkey which I may do as well. I don't know if I'll rerig him, but he's in desperate need of a hand gizmo.

Orc
by littleandy- 42 replies

Alright, so I have this orc that I want to make. I haven't really sketched it out- I'm pretty much winging it this time. But that's ok at this point, because I know how I want the teeth to look. So that's what I've modelled so far. Problem: How do I texture them? I've done the basic geometry for the teeth and gums, and I've used naming conventions pretty carefully, so each tooth is it's own group and all that. Does anyone have suggestions for how to go about texturing? Do I need to do each tooth seperately? Ay, this is going to be a painful process if so... And if anyone has suggestions for the modelling at this point, this'd be a good time to tell me. P.S. …

Haha! AP tests are done and I can get back to my orc. I modelled the arms (minus the hands) but I don't think that's worth posting because for the animation I'm planning, they won't really be shown. Anyway, now I'm on to texturing, and I need some criticism. I don't think that I'm really going for REALISM realism, but if anyone has any ideas on how to make it MORE realistic, that'd be awesome. Of course, if you just want to give me encouragement, I suppose that's ok too... But if anyone tells me that he should be green or purple or something, I will personally track them down and hurt them. -Andrew P.S. Ok, yeah, the image contrast has been touch…

For a re-make of a character picture portfolio I made years ago, which is being redone in full 3D, I am required to re-create the car that she owns. However according to her story she owns a Slimbikini Miablo VS, which would be a complete take-off of a Lambourgini Diablo. However, I decided to create a car design that would be unique, while still borrowing some of the design ideas of the Diablo. And because of my usual "Must document everything" nature, I still have every single render I created for this vehicle, and I thought it would be something to share. First of all, the original image from the Portfolio: http://members.shaw.ca/nekosei/others/Picture3…

I've been playing with the Osprey tutorial from JohnArtbox and am pretty happy with my progress. I still am driving myself batty with getting the lighting that I want (trust me, it's more difficult than lighting a real set!). Of course, the requisite checkered floor has to make an appearance, although I'd like to have a better handle on materials to generate a grungier texture for the floor. I'm experimenting with decals as I can whip up terriffic textures in photoshop, but as for my ability to get them into A:M, well, I'm still in the embryonic stage there. This attached picture is about the 15th generation of the project (thanks to John for some of the models, as w…

Tried applying the image as a decal over the top of all the decals, the truck panels with the added decal on them turned invisible when I turn of the crunched decal.. Hmmmmm. It's been a long long time since I've posted any personal work - and I have now started re-fooling around (got my ver 15 back - woo hoo - me happy camper) - Here's the start of a character that I will probably use in one of the short animations I have in mind to do. The character is a modified Ork model being used in Scarecrow of Oz - designed by Alain Desroucher, modeled by Ken Heslip, rigged by Mark Skodacek, modified, textured, feathered by me. it's not finished. My intent with doing a sequence of short hopefully humorous vignettes is to develop & loosen up my animation style, and get a better grasp on short (1-5 minute) story telling via pantomime, o…
