I was cleaning off some hardrive space and found an old short that we did called Afterhours. I think this was made in 8.5 but was fun nevertheless. I posted a version of this way back using an obscure codec. Hopefully there's a few who might have seen it? Anyway, here it is: Afterhours clip

Howdy folks, I decided to revive an old short that I was working on back in 2000 at least that's the oldest renders I found, I think I started it earlier. With some of the new features in A:M I think it will be easier to accomplish some things. Such as CP Weights, Dynamic Bones, etc. Plus it will help me to get into practice with some of A:M's new features before doing a bigger project. Anyways here are a couple screen shots and a little pose test anim I did back then. Hopefully I can stay motivated and get it done this time. testing_pose_slip.mov

Hey gang, Been a long time since I haunted this community. I've been playing with splines and decided to get some feedback. I like this character and thought it might be fun to model. I still have to texture him, everything you see here is patch colored geometry and toon shading. Dave

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this - I tried the new users area but no response. I'm trying to mimic Coopers tutorial. I started with the nose and rotoscopes as he did. I get the general concept but I'm really struggling with a few parts around the nostril. I realize some of this is just learn by trial and error but I could really use some suggestions, I've hit a brick wall on this. Here is a pic, note especially the arrowed areas, but the whole thing in general needs work.

"You've never seen a ball bounce like this"-AO Scott, New York Times "Two Thumbs Up"-Ebert & Roeper "Filled with shock, suspense and special effects this is the year's must see movie"-Sid Smith, Chicago Tribune "Visually Stunning"-Eric Harrison, Houston Chronicle It's attached for all who want to see. Seriously, as much as I wanted to jump in and do my Pixar like, Emmy Nominated, Four Star, SIGGRAPH standing ovation, tour de force of a movie I took advice from some animation books (and animators on the web) to start with the obnoxious bouncing ball exercise. So I did. Feel free to comment. Note that I have not tried to put an…

I have this school project and I need to draw some scetches for it, so why not do it in AM to make an impression? the only prob I got is that I need my flat area to be filled with grass and prefferebly also some sand/rocks. My questions are: what's the best way to create grass? and how do I create sand? Here's the space I need to fill out:

Hi hashers! I want to show a clip i made almost 2 years ago. Why now? Because i am starting something new with the same basic idea. In the meantime i gained a little more skill in animating, and i can do something with a more finished look. It finishes rather abruptly because it was just testing and i had no real plan. It was assembled in after Effects, but this time i plan to do it all A.M. Let me know what you think. Sorry it is Divx 10megs B.D.

I threw this guy together in v12 over the weekend, and am now going through the laborious process of rigging. He's one of the main characters in an as-yet-unnamed project I've been planning for some time now. ...and after the rigging is finished, clothes. I'm going to try and do all of the characters' clothing with v12 SimCloth. Eventually, he'll use Yves' skin shader, but that's not working in v12 right now. I'm not quite as happy with the body; I was going for "gangly, with poor posture and a pot belly", but it ended up looking like a guy's head on a pregnant woman's body. Hopefully he'll look better with clothes on.

A number of people left me very nice comments on the AMStills gallery, so I thought a few of you may enjoy seeing a slightly re-worked hi-res version of the pic I entered in the March sci-fi contest. (the hi-res version is attached at the bottom of this post) A few comments on its making: The whole thing is really based on a lot of trickery and forced perspective, when it comes down to it. Luckily you can get away with that in stills most of the time! Breaking it down into parts: The lower city - nearly all of the small buildings are simply boxes with beveled tops. For the hi-res version, I went back in and added in some additional geometry t…

Seeing Johnl3D's Opus inspired me to start working on mine again. I'm still bothered by creases, but I'm starting to feel like maybe I'm getting the hang of splining. Still don't have the mouth done, but I've made some progress. Here are some pics. This is kind of a fake; I'm only doing half and will CFA when it's closer to being done. I just put two instances of the model in the chor and scaled one of them -100 on the x axis.

Here's a look at a model I'm working on. The original sketches in the corner were done by my wife, she has a wonderful drawing style (I think, anyway), that's almost anime, but not quite. The head is coming along nicely, I think, but the areas on the body that concern me are the shoulder area next to the breast (I've highlighted it in red) where there are 4 five point patches in a row. Is this going to be a problem when the shoulder moves? and if so, what can I do to fix it? Also, is the butt going to cause me problems as is? Will I be able to fix them with some smartskinning? And how does it look so far to you? Thanks, Lazlo

Here is the project file for my Shaggy and Scooby. I couldn't include the chor because of the size of the file. Shaggy is rigged, but there is a problem with the contraints on one of the right hand fingers. No smartskin. SHaggy's hair isn't finished. There's a few basic bones in Scooby for the tail and ears. If anyone uses these just let me know what you used them for and post it here so we can all see it . These models were built quickly for the contest, so they are probably no good for animation. If someone does get a decent rig and animation with these guys let us know that too. I also did a quick toon render of them in the model window. I didn't …

Im planning on adding a ship on the launchpad and finishing the crane (under construction on the right side) which will probably make the road look more like background rather than the focus of the image. here's a small render of the pic as it stands straight out of the renderer. A friend was drawing a picture involving Phantom, and it got me thinking... this was mostly a study in modeling and lighting. I was thinking of posting it on A:M stills. One item of concern, however: I didn't make the rose. I think it was on the forum. I seem to remember someone saying it was up for grabs. However, I wouldn't want to use someone's model uncredited. if you know whose rose it is, please tell me, because it's a really nice model. It's one that looks weird unless you apply the supplied pose to it. Thanks! -Zev

I was just wondering if I could get some constructive criticism on something I'm working on. The link is here (2.5MB) Oh, and if you're from any of the States mentioned and have a better idea for pictures to go on the projector, let me know that, too. I'm going for a sort of inside joke/stereotype thing. For example, for Michigan there's a hand, because we Michiganians will quite often point to a place on the right hand when asked where we're from (unless one is a Yooper). So, yeah. Looking forward to comments.

After this I'll be adding feet, more detail on the "cage" and add some lights that are shining on him at all times (to incubate him)... this is going to be an interesting model

I'm working on rain, and came up with what seemed a clever solution. the rain is streaks, and the splashes on the chair are a flock of rain drops. After much frustration I finally got it working...until I closed and reopened the file. Now only one drop in the flock shows up. I know flocking has been a source of frustration to others, but anyone have advice. Is this just not a playable feature right now? Also anyone ever get Flock Surface constraint to work? Hi, The Battleship model needed to be 'special' and I’m not the best at creating neat space ships so the sketch below and model are loosely based on a ship I saw a while back in either Doom or Quake (great sources for that kind of thing). After the screen test I could see some of the texturing needed work but I wanted to get it out for comments.
