Well, at long last--well, only two days, but that's as long as it took to make the darn thing--our animated entry in the 48 Hour Film Project for Washington, D.C. is available on AMFilms: http://amfilms.hash.com/search/entry.php?entry=744 A larger version (640x480, 33MB) is also available: http://www.shipbrook.com/mpegs/DuckSauce.html Just to remind everyone, this was created from start to finish--writing, acting, modeling, animation, rendering, editing, and music--in about 53 straight hours by a team of ten: six people local to D.C. and four others scattered throughout the Internet. We were given a series of elements we had to incorporate (the ge…

Please visit this link to follow up my earlier posts. http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=11946&st=0 Hi all, It's been a while. And finally I got some time to return to this project. I'm kinda stuck with visualising. I've changed the character to a more realistic way. But I doubt if its going with the painted BGs. I'm posting the character and BGs with a composite too. Any suggestions are most welcome. Satyajit

This is a little try at making an AO style render with just z-buffered kleig lights. I chose the "Biobot" character from the extras disk because he has lots of crevices and bumps to challenge the occlusion effect. AOBTurnTestH.mov The result isn't quite as satisfying as a real AO image but it takes only 5 seconds per frame to render. The quicktime compression is making the shadows on the ground look patchier than they really are. In the original render they're quite smooth.

My friend and I are going to be taping off sections of our schools steps to look like concentric rings when viewed from a certain point. We're just about done with everything we need to complete it. So, I thought I'd share it with you all, and see what you think.

Here's the animatic for our Holiday animation. It's pretty rough but cobbled together mainly to get the timing to match the music. This year we actually commissioned original music!!! so we don't have to sneak around and be "careful" of who we show it to. I've already posted the animatic on YouTube and will be posting WIP renders. The actual gingerbread house was modeled and rigged by Holmes and he did a great job on it. It'll be fun to get it moving! the closing shot of the dancing company logo will be done by my cohort, Randy, so what's in the animatic is just a placeholder. I'm sure he'll do something terrific. EDIT:: THIS IS A NEWLY UPLOADED FILE WITH STEEEREO …

I haven't gotten these pants to survive the jump over the box like the shorts could, but they work well in a walk. LongPants_700.mov Although Thom is on a walk cycle, the pants had to be simulated for the whole range This was rendered with Jenpy's FastAO. AO really does help make things look "there". And now it's fast!

Last year one of my benefactors got me Disney teacher Don Graham's "Composing Pictures", a very deep look at what makes images work. On of the techniques he talks about is "passage" where a band of color or value will cross what would normally be a shape boundary. One example he gave was this classic Chinese painting "Clear Weather in the Valley". you can see the sky color descends down through the whole picture even crossing over the sides of mountains. Here, it's like a low-lying fog. My other contest entry was an attempt to do something a bit like that with A:M. I made a set of flat planes for mountain tops and angled a volumetric effect to obscu…

If your familiar with the work of J. scott Cambell (Gen 13, Danger Girl) Then hopefully you'll recognize my inspiration for this type of toon render. Wonder Woman was just the first superhero I thought to model (most likely becuase of all the chat about the movies, which is on again off again, then justice league, which is on again off again). Anyway, I'm posting because I was hoping for some feedback (as well as someone to tell me I'm not wasting my time). About the model... everything i learned and applied here came from Demented3D's tutorials.. so props to that genius of a man! Everything is toon renedered and surfaced colored with gradients. The only decals …

These are shots from the film actually, but with a very temporary proxy background. The flat color rendering technique behaves very well when animated. You do have to be carefull where the light is placed so that the character will pick up a turned edge without any obvious shading, though. http://www.anzovin.com/swash1.mov http://www.anzovin.com/swash2.mov --Raf

Okay, it may not look like much to experienced users but I have spent a lot of time getting here! This is the head of a desmostylus, a prehistoric hippo like creature. I am developing it for a museum project. As you can see, there are no textures applied yet. I am used to a solids modeler where I can use layers or pick an item as a group to isolate components. It seems in AM my only option is to group one section, then lock the rest. this breaks down when I get mutliple parts. Right now I have to work on the lips that meet the lower tusks. In the mouth are inner lips, gums, and the tusks. Trying to find the correct points to move the lips to comform to the tusks with…

Finally, that exciting moment when one begins to move into that phase known as animation! So, I figured I'd start a new thread dedicated to just the animation. I would very much like comments and criticism as animation is something I've pretty much not done before! To start off, here's the WIP of Scene 3, Shot 1. So far I've only animated Darren (on the left) and I've not animated his hand/fingers. These renders will just be animatics so that we can deal with just the animation and not have to worry about render times so much. So please, take a look, gimme the good, bad and ugly! Oh, I should mention, the goal is to be able to have about 2 minutes animated by Chris…

I figured I would post him here, I'm going to try and get him as a workable character. This is my first real character (I scrapped the one I was working with during the tutorials). The TSM rig works good, but you'll see some issues I have, notably with the foot in front on top not looking right. If you saw him in the other thread, you might notice shorter arms, thicker wrist, no neck and different feet. This first one is a test walk. Some issues I have: - His feet descend below ground level between keys. I'm not sure why. On all the keys his feet are on the line. - He's got flat feet syndrome big time. I think this is a model and rig issue. - Not …

I don't know if it's really a Showcase piece, but after finishing the modeling and getting the bones setup and the Smart Skin, I needed to do a simple pose to see how everything is working...so maybe a step up from a WIP? Well, here it is: Rendered in A:M v13f, AO turned on with one Key light and Sky Textured sphere, as an OpenEXR and then motion-blurred in Adobe Photoshop. Size was originally 1400 X 2000 but was cropped in Photoshop. Render time was around 2.5 hours on my Mobile P4 with 2GB RAM. - pjc

I bought A:M at Macworld a few years ago, and have just recently really started putting it through its paces. This after having graduated from Amorphium 1.0. So, after a few started and abandoned projects, I decided to build an iMac G5. I went all out and actually finished this one. Doing so helped me learn a lot of shortcuts and techniques, such as material creation and Boolean cutters. Have a look and tell me what you think. I've posted a movie of the iMac spinning on a mirror on my iDisk, along with the project and all its resources so you can see what I did. I apologize in advance for the 5 or so Boolean cutters that I should have modeled in, but it seems to have work…

Well I'm on vacation until January 4th so I decided to start a new character. I want to have a simple-to-animate character that can have a wide range of expression. Kind of like the standard Animation Mentor characters. My ambitious intention is to build a rig for her and use her to get better at the animation side of things. I did add ears and some hair which may be more than needed but here's what I did so far. I'm having a little trouble smoothing the cheeks. It seems anytime there is a five point patch I get a slight crease from some angle. I don't want to use the porcelain material to fix it. I'd rather figure out how to do it with the splines. Righ…

I'm opening a thread for critique and ABUSE of my mini-movie entry, The Cell-Phone: http://www.hash.com/users/minimovie/cellphone.html Let's be clear here: If you can't say something nice... GOOD. Be brutal, nitpicky, even unconstructive. My only response will be "Thank you, sir, may I have another?" I want to make this thing better, and the only way to do that is to get criticism. So if something bothers you about the film, don't swallow it and worry about hurting my pride. Pretend I'm that third grade teacher you had, who told all your peers "[your name here] just wet his/her pants again, class!" And TAKE YOUR REVENGE. Sharpened blades at the re…

Hello- In the properties panel you can turn on "Glow" for a group. It seems you can either turn "Glow" "ON" or "OFF". I tried searching the database but couldn't find an answer to the question, "What if you want a "Glow" to grow,... over time?...from nothing to a bright glow... Is there a way to do this without making two different renders...one with the glow "ON" and one with the glow "OFF" ...and then just cross dissolve the renders in another program like AfterFX? Thanks for any insights Tom

i wanted to use the null shader to render a depth map for adding DOF in post. the problem is that the null shader does not do what it´s supposed to... the null shader should overwrite all decals and materials, right? the only thing it does for me is rendering everything a lot darker. i was able to render a good usable depth map by removing all the materials and decals, disable all lights and placing a material effector with a gradient from white to black in the focus area. this way it´s pretty easy to animate the focus... for testrenders it was ok to make an extra version of the project and remove all decals and materials manually from the few models... but if i imagi…

This has been giving me fits all night long. I can't get the surface smooth of this simple, yet compound shape - notice the deformations around the cutout. The cutout is giving me all the problems, but I have to have it there. Any suggestions on how to do this? None of the planes are flat and none are directly on the xyz plane. The piece is curved too. The picture doesn't do the shape justice. The shape I am trying to get is very similar to the rounded quarterpanel of a roadster like the AC Cobra. Who is the expert on forming sheetmetal in AM?

In the last week I've been finalizing the Sentinel's posture sitting in the saddle. He carries a rifle across his lap. As Beast rolls/waddles to the left, he compensates by leaning slightly to the right. The problem has been keeping his hands on the rifle while making sure it doesn't penetrate his legs or the computer screen in front of him. I got it smoothed out, but am I correct in thinking that in the Choreography you cannot move the pivot? It would have made life much easier.

I tried to use some textures and lighting for the first time to achieve a certian style. Here is the result for now. Many things are still bothering me though: -The lightbulb in the standlamp next to the comfychair doesnt seem to work correctly. I made the bulb and the cover transparent but the light is not showing enough still. - the texturemap for the wall are tiled and double applied for bump and colormap. I am not sure , if they show correctly and are properly aligned positioned. -the oak material for the wood works quiet nice, scaled down to 1 % except for the backwall of the big bookcase , where they seem to big scaled somehow. This is Captain Barnstorm. A new character I created...because I wanted to! He doesn't have a story right now, but I have a few ideas percolating. I'm not entirely done rigging and making poses, but I'm pretty far along. No textures at this point. The next picture is a few characters from a story idea my wife came up with. If I get it finished it will be in storybook form (hopefully!). I'm very happy with the cow, but the horse is giving me trouble, and I just can't make the duck's wings look right. Bird wings that work right, to me, are nearly unattainable in 3d. I just can't get my brain wrapped around them. Any suggestions from bird modelers would be appreciated. …

It was recorded by my granddaughter Tara just before her 14th birthday. She just turned 17 and is hoping to go into music and drama. So I finally got the animation together in an effort to help kick start her career, even before she finishes high school.
