I dug up an old friend of mine, the stupid robot I made a few years ago. I've been tinkering with SynthEyes the last couple of days. Basically I recorded a video of my desk with my mobile phone and imported it into SynthEyes, did the tracking and adjustments then exported it to A:M. I see there is some jittering on the tracking, but overall I'm satisfied. The animation is just an old and crappy action I made long time ago. Let me know what you think johnny6.mov Here is an small screen capture:

Usually it does. But on my laptop, it doesn't. I try to 'paste' into the Paint program, and nothing happens. Does A:M have an internal way of saving screen snapshots?

I have been working feverishly to get an entry into the image contest but due to a failing hard drive will not be able to enter on time, just so everyone doesn't think I was just a gasbag - here is a glimpse of my mechanical entry wannabe main focus. The texture needs to be scaled way down, (I had to re-create it and didn't have it backed up in time) and a few other tweaks, the pose was also lost.... Medium intensity critiques are ok, I'm sensitive so don't bash me too bad - I am not fishing for praise, this image is not worthy of any-

I did some more work with Instant Meshes program. It appears the -align to boundaries- button helps to get the output quads where you want them. This is especially helpful when you want to -copy/flip/attach- later in A:M. Attached are two pictures and a short .MOV that I made with an imported .OBJ of a spaceman. I can see that the models are not pretty, but because they are small and smooth, you can get useful results. The whole process of importing an .OBJ into Instant Meshes, outputting the reconfigured .OBJ and importing it into A:M only takes a minute or two. The pictures show the original .OBJ on the left and the Instant Meshes version on the right. …

This is a little try at making an AO style render with just z-buffered kleig lights. I chose the "Biobot" character from the extras disk because he has lots of crevices and bumps to challenge the occlusion effect. AOBTurnTestH.mov The result isn't quite as satisfying as a real AO image but it takes only 5 seconds per frame to render. The quicktime compression is making the shadows on the ground look patchier than they really are. In the original render they're quite smooth.

Well, I've got most of the things up on my website up that I want. I just needs some tweaking and a lot more (new) content. I hope to have time to actually work some on my short during the next month, so I expect some new stuff within a month. I guess the address would be good. http://www.tartpi.com/ Feedback is always welcome.

it´s the mascot of my favorite club in my hometown where i use to party... i know the owners and they asked me to do some animations of the cat, maybe we´ll even make a cinema-spot with it. it´s not really a paid job, i´m more like getting paid in beverages... so here´s the first demo vid, just a walk- and a runcycle and a short 5sec animation. hope you´ll like it... kittycams.mov

Hello - This is a little project for my wife whose favorite flower is mildly hinted at by the attached. I started with this by going for a more realistic flower scene but couldn't help myself (after watching Fantasia again) by trying something less literal. I'm posting for your impressions in particular for the pose. How does it read? Thanks. Doug

Has anyone got an idea on why my mushroom is banded like this? I have an animated decal (QT movie) as a displacement map but it hasn't got THAT much compression in it. And look at the underside of the "crown;" it's like a surface break... The surface it pretty hi-res; a 40X40 patch grid rolled into a tube. I'm working of this tutorial and Weevil doesn't run into any of this... hash.com/users/weevil/ EDIT : Part of it turned out to be a poorly-compressed transparency decal. But there's still more going on in this image. ANy ideas? Rhett

I'm doing a pretty easy 'rolling stock' animation: just simple turning wheels and tank treads. About those treads...I've got a few ideas on how to go about it, but they draw on my old polygon days. I'm wondering that, if I install a bone in each tread plate, and make each bone the child of the one before it 'til I arrive at the last, will the 29 children smoothly follow the 1st parent?

I accidentally first posted this in the tutorial section ..so it is being re-posted here.. Hello- Does anyone know if Sprites can be effected by Forces? I haven't been able to get that to work... Question 2) Does anyone know if Sprites can be contained inside another shaped object once they are emitted? For example, once sprites are emitted, can they fill an invisible object so that as the sprties accumulate, a form takes shape? Here is a clip from the second Narnia movie that got me thinking about this effect. It appears there is a quick cut between the particles floating and the humanlike body that they become.. Thanks for any feedb…

I figured I would post him here, I'm going to try and get him as a workable character. This is my first real character (I scrapped the one I was working with during the tutorials). The TSM rig works good, but you'll see some issues I have, notably with the foot in front on top not looking right. If you saw him in the other thread, you might notice shorter arms, thicker wrist, no neck and different feet. This first one is a test walk. Some issues I have: - His feet descend below ground level between keys. I'm not sure why. On all the keys his feet are on the line. - He's got flat feet syndrome big time. I think this is a model and rig issue. - Not …

I've been trying to animate the color of a hair material that I'm using for pine needles. No image, just particle hair. But apparently you can't animate the color? I've been messing with this for awhile and then discovered that the settings I was changing in the pws weren't under the "actions" but were the settings for the instance. So I think I should change to an image that I can then animate like an animated decal. But does anyone know if particle hair color can change over time?

After several weeks of work, I (with some helpful input from Dushan, my roomie) have finally completed and entered my commercial entry for the Heinz "Top This" challenge. It is done, and I am very satisfied. The music/sound-effects are a combo of stuff supplied by Heinz for the contest, as well as public domain bits, and my own home-grown effects. *whew* You all can view the entry on youtube at... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1pj2OMLr0xQ It took remarkably less time than I had intended, as I had blocked out ~2 months for pre-production etc. Wish me luck! there he comes... finally... the first of maybe a few shorts of "RUBBERGUY - TRAINING LESSONS FOR UPCOMING SUPERHEROES" (i know i forgot the "e" in heroes in the trailerscreen, will be fixed...) the idea was to make a squetch-rigged character (my first one with that rig so far) that can extremely bend (that´s his superpower ). i always wanted to make that kind of squetchy moves but never knew how to make that until i found the squetch-rig, thanks to all the guys who were involved developing it. then i remembered the sportgoofy-clips where goofy does different sport-disciplines and sucks at all. and i thought: "hey, why don´t you do that sort of thing with your chara…

http://amfilms.hash.com/video/389/Lush-Lawn-TV-commercial This TV spot turned-out well... made in Animation:Master and Adobe After Effects. It is for a small local company called 'Lush Lawn'... and there was NO script or storyboard. I have a nice 3D model of the region already... you'll like it. CLIENT: Then he zooms into Grand Blanc and joins the logo and we see his nameplate... to introduce him. THEN he sinks into the soil and makes the grass grow... then we see examples of lawns…

It's been awhile since I posted here as I've been busy moving from NY to North Carolina, and looking for work. I may have a shot at a job designing an employees' instructional website for a home improvement chain, so I did this animation of a deck assembling itself as a portfolio piece to impress them into hiring me. My 3D animation page I used toon line rendering for the first time and it worked out really well! It was perfect for the appearance I wanted. I like to post both .avi and .mov versions for my website. The original render was about 11 megs. I was astonished to see that the .mov version compressed to 680k with almost no loss of quality, however I…

Well I'm on vacation until January 4th so I decided to start a new character. I want to have a simple-to-animate character that can have a wide range of expression. Kind of like the standard Animation Mentor characters. My ambitious intention is to build a rig for her and use her to get better at the animation side of things. I did add ears and some hair which may be more than needed but here's what I did so far. I'm having a little trouble smoothing the cheeks. It seems anytime there is a five point patch I get a slight crease from some angle. I don't want to use the porcelain material to fix it. I'd rather figure out how to do it with the splines. Righ…
