It has been awhile since I posted any new work or entered any contests, but that is soon to change. I thought I would start off by posting a few of my older pieces entered in past contests. http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?pos=-1026 http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?pos=-1025 http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?pos=-1024 http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?pos=-1023 http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?pos=-1022 http://www.hash.com/stills/displayimage.php?pos=-1021

Up to now, I've pretty much been posting only still images, but this IS an animation forum after all. So I'm starting a project. I've created my first character, I have the head complete, although there's gonna be a lot of tweaking yet to refine the head further. The body should be easier, hopefully. Here's the sketch I used for rotoscopes and a turnaround of the head so far. Knuckles_McGurke_T.mov

Here is a model I did a while ago and never got around to rendering it out. Thanks for who ever posted the keychain project, can't remember the name right now. It took 5 hours total for the model and about 657 patches. Comments welcome. Chad if anyone would like this model, let me know and I will get it packaged up in a zip for download.

Dynamic simulation all done with simcloth. I love the way the teeter board bends! SpringBoard.mov If you wonder why i haven't finished up the Bus Stop project it's because silly things like this keep distracting me. (Hopefully some of it will show up in my segment.)

Finally, that exciting moment when one begins to move into that phase known as animation! So, I figured I'd start a new thread dedicated to just the animation. I would very much like comments and criticism as animation is something I've pretty much not done before! To start off, here's the WIP of Scene 3, Shot 1. So far I've only animated Darren (on the left) and I've not animated his hand/fingers. These renders will just be animatics so that we can deal with just the animation and not have to worry about render times so much. So please, take a look, gimme the good, bad and ugly! Oh, I should mention, the goal is to be able to have about 2 minutes animated by Chris…

I've never worked on a model that i've hated until now. I never want to make another of these or anything similar to this any time soon. I don't mind tedious work, its the needless redundancy that got me. For some reason, the normals wouldn't stand still, they kept flipping on me in random directions. Every time I reopened the file. . . flip! Rotated the object. . . flip! flip one set of normals, another set flipped. GRRRRR!!!! maybe its just my machine, or the version of AM I'm Running or my use of 5 point patches. . . I don't know. anyway, i've attached the project file incase anyone else would ever need a storm drain cover. My pain is your gain. . . irongratepr…

Phew! It's been a long time since I posted at hash. I finally got the opportunity to use 3D in my cartoons again and figured you guys might like a look. The UFO will become quite an integral part of the storyline of my current comic. The only problem is that it only gets updated each week and it's fairly slow paced. It'll be more enjoyable to read the entire thing once it's finished (I hope ) Dan Beeston http://www.invisiblespiders.com 'Get 'em Off Me Man!'

I dug up an old friend of mine, the stupid robot I made a few years ago. I've been tinkering with SynthEyes the last couple of days. Basically I recorded a video of my desk with my mobile phone and imported it into SynthEyes, did the tracking and adjustments then exported it to A:M. I see there is some jittering on the tracking, but overall I'm satisfied. The animation is just an old and crappy action I made long time ago. Let me know what you think johnny6.mov Here is an small screen capture:

there he comes... finally... the first of maybe a few shorts of "RUBBERGUY - TRAINING LESSONS FOR UPCOMING SUPERHEROES" (i know i forgot the "e" in heroes in the trailerscreen, will be fixed...) the idea was to make a squetch-rigged character (my first one with that rig so far) that can extremely bend (that´s his superpower ). i always wanted to make that kind of squetchy moves but never knew how to make that until i found the squetch-rig, thanks to all the guys who were involved developing it. then i remembered the sportgoofy-clips where goofy does different sport-disciplines and sucks at all. and i thought: "hey, why don´t you do that sort of thing with your chara…

I dont want the body to be exact I want it to be fairly realistic with some cartoonish about it, but still noiticable that its a human type figure. Please give me some imput. Well, it works! Is it just me or does this look like a good ole bag o' goop? Still needs tweaking for its final use of course... I like it! I used a boolean... here is the set up.. Plastic bag mesh. Duplicate bag mesh slightly smaller (bag is transparent... need some air between goop and bag to avoid the transparency artifacts when surfaces are too close. Also avoids accidental pass through of the goop outside of the bag). A box like mesh above the goop shape. Assign box shape to boolean bone. Assign plastic bag to a child of boolean bone so it won't get... booleaned. I then use two different groups and material settings. The boolean shape ha…

I'm opening a thread for critique and ABUSE of my mini-movie entry, The Cell-Phone: http://www.hash.com/users/minimovie/cellphone.html Let's be clear here: If you can't say something nice... GOOD. Be brutal, nitpicky, even unconstructive. My only response will be "Thank you, sir, may I have another?" I want to make this thing better, and the only way to do that is to get criticism. So if something bothers you about the film, don't swallow it and worry about hurting my pride. Pretend I'm that third grade teacher you had, who told all your peers "[your name here] just wet his/her pants again, class!" And TAKE YOUR REVENGE. Sharpened blades at the re…

Well, I actually started making this project with Truespace 6. I am still in the middle of it but Animation Master is easy to model with and I am not having problems with system crashes as I did with TS Nurbs. The spline base form of modeling seems to work much like I expected TS Nurbs should have worked. They are not the same but I think some of the approaches to this project I could apply in TS too. If I cannot figure out how to do something in TS I can quickly make it in A.M. and export it. So far though, I have been able to model the B-36 in A. M. without any system crashes distracting me from my task. Mainly because I think this application is so well though…

Hey all, I finally finished another character. I don't got a name for it YET but I was hoping maybe one of you can come up with a cool name . Anyway here it is: Took me about half a day to model, texture and completely rig it. Now for the fun part! Animating! I wanted to make a simple character to practice my animation skills and this is it. Now I was hoping you all could give me at least one thing to do with him . So far I got: Pushing a box (make it so that it looks like he is struggling to push it) and jumping off a building. Thats it . Now I could think of probably a few more but I thought it would be cool if everyone could tell me what to animate wit…

[attachmentid=18147]Hello, Here's a cave for a short film I'm working on. It doesn't look quite right to me for some reason. I had shaded it with the darktree shaders, but they take forever to render on my laptop, and I temporarily uninstalled them. What do you think? I seem to remember it looking better with the shaders ( I am using clay shaders, combined with some of the other materials). I wanted the main characters to have a "claymated" look, however, I am not sure that is appropriate for every prop / item in the film. Would you stick completely with the clay look, or have clay characters in a semi-photoreal environment? I ask becaus…

Thought some of you might like to see some more detail in my contest entry. Dandy DNA Mechanical Image contest entry. JPEG format. 2000x1366px 2mb Please check out the bubbles on the surface of the goop! That is my favorite part of the whole image! Goop bag detail Just a decal but it looks pretty goopy. I bet that stuff stinks! Anyone who has seen previous bags of goop know that I have been trying to use booleans to cut away the goop but leave the bag. This worked great. I used that technique on the two bags in the box. However I was not 100% satisfied with the final results. I wanted to simplify my project and add more detail to the surface …

http://amfilms.hash.com/video/389/Lush-Lawn-TV-commercial This TV spot turned-out well... made in Animation:Master and Adobe After Effects. It is for a small local company called 'Lush Lawn'... and there was NO script or storyboard. The client just gave me a list of visuals... like this: CLIENT: First, we see Gary in front of a map of Michigan... I'll just do that in post with a map image... ME: No, no... I have a nice 3D model of the region already... you'll like it. CLIENT: Then he zooms into Grand Blanc and joins the logo and we see his nameplate... to introduce him. THEN he sinks into the soil and makes the grass grow... then we see examples of lawns…

I'm starting to model Bal Loons throne based on this image: Throne I'd like to try and keep the patch count low so I'm trying render as lines. Should I go this route? As far as I can see render as lines doesn't seem to cast shadows. Also, there's that problem of the thickness changing depending on how far your viewing from. Any recommendations?

Meet the Little Barbarian! Short of stature, but big on courage… or not… This is one model that I have been working on (and off ;-) ) during the last year. I have just been having fun modeling, but in time some little animation emerges from the fog in the distance… [attachmentid=15581] So far I have him modeled, and I have his head textured… Rest of him is textured with procedural materials (easily visible with the hair) and waits for my spare time… Textures made with Painter Classic. Light is standard 3 – light choreography setup. Not rigged yet: just two bones in his body so far: head and jaw… I am waiting for the final v11 squetch rig… …

I need to get this model to look like this picture. I'm using a pose slider in muscle mode to try to create the same surface... wow. Tried applying the image of the crunched vehicle as a displacement map, that didn't work. Tried applying the image as a decal over the top of all the decals, the truck panels with the added decal on them turned invisible when I turn of the crunched decal.. Hmmmmm. I was going to submit a second entry for the "toon" contest, but Steve informed me I could only do one. So, this is just a quick pic I did the other day. It's nothing spectacular, but fun nonetheless. I created the Alien a couple years back, just never did anything with him, but now that I've got TSM, he's boned and rigged. Comments and critiques are welcome, but the picture is pretty much finished. Time to move on to other things. (v10.5 / WIN98se / AMD 2400+ / 512 MB / ATI Radeon9200)

These are shots from the film actually, but with a very temporary proxy background. The flat color rendering technique behaves very well when animated. You do have to be carefull where the light is placed so that the character will pick up a turned edge without any obvious shading, though. http://www.anzovin.com/swash1.mov http://www.anzovin.com/swash2.mov --Raf

I bought A:M at Macworld a few years ago, and have just recently really started putting it through its paces. This after having graduated from Amorphium 1.0. So, after a few started and abandoned projects, I decided to build an iMac G5. I went all out and actually finished this one. Doing so helped me learn a lot of shortcuts and techniques, such as material creation and Boolean cutters. Have a look and tell me what you think. I've posted a movie of the iMac spinning on a mirror on my iDisk, along with the project and all its resources so you can see what I did. I apologize in advance for the 5 or so Boolean cutters that I should have modeled in, but it seems to have work…
