GENERAL FORUM GUIDELINES
The A:M Forum is for technical support and the sharing of tips and ideas between users/prospective users of Hash software. It is moderated constantly by technical support representatives.
DO'S!

User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.

Hi Splinesmen! I think this must be a rather simple question. Im using AM 13r on Windows XP. I just want an object to follow a path#1 (I know of Ease and Enforcement) - so this works great. At the end of path #1 my object has to do some "strange" movement, where a path is not apropiate. So I append a normal choreo action. Now my object "lands" somewere - and now following a different, second path (lets say path#2) would be the easiest for me. But I've no success in doing the last step. A added the second path. I set a path constraint on object with path#2 as target. But now matter how I edit Ease & Enforcement: MY object does NOT move along…

I am currently rendering a test movie of a model I made, and have successfully rendered it into a "Final" format. However, when I try to render into a Wireframe or Shaded Format, I get the error message.... "Failed InitBoundRenderInfo" Does anyone know what settings that need to be set in order to render as such? Much Thanks...

Having an issue - I am working on a project and my model when I try to view as shaded the message pops up "Exception #033 Realtime Render" - it also said when I opened the model "CP listed twice" - I think that was the wordingin - I guess somehow there is a CP w/ the same name or something? Has anyone ever run into this issue? How do I get the section in the properties that show's all the CP's - maybe I can find it in there and delete it - if that is the issue. Any help or suggestions would be great.

Hi. I won a copy of Animation Master in the Renderosity Animation Contest and received my prize yesterday in the mail. The CD is version 12 which when installed won't run on my computer. It quits unexpectedly on start up. I've tried installing updates versions: 15, 14 and 13: these all start fine but none will recognize my CD to let the program continue. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -thanks, Perry

I am going through the book and i am at the show some back bone. When i load 2001 skeleton it looks like it is missing bones. it there a place i can download this file to make sure i have the right one. The bones it is asking to adjust are just not there! thanks

ok against m better jugment i strayed away form robots and such and actualy tryed a organic characer , and i must say , i did...... ok , qustion is i being notto good in this area made the characters hair using tubes and such , it looks ok but is there any way to (A) make the tubes fill with hair or something that looks like hair or ( find a way to appliy a hiar texture to the tubes in a way that doesnt look patched

Hi guys, I was in the q and a this weekend and tried to ask this question, but I don’t think I communicated it very well. Attached below are scans off the tutorial I’m trying to follow. The main question is: How do I select modeling mode from inside the choreography? I can’t, it’s grayed out. What is bizarre is that somehow or other I got it to work briefly, I have no idea how… I was testing things out, pressing a number of options at the top and all of the sudden it became selectable. John Bailey Exercise 2 4/11/06 http://media.putfile.com/Exercise2 How can I make them dance longer? If I extend the time range, they dance slower, and if I add key frames they stop at 2 seconds and just stand there like dummies for the rest of the time.

Quick question... I am having trouble finding an answer to. I am saving an animation as an image sequence. Those images are .bmp's, although the same problem occurres with .png and .tga When I then import these images into A:M as a layer, they are like 90% transparent. What am doing wrong when I save as image sequence???

Ok to check out the program I bought a subscription. First thing I tried to do was add some actions I got off eggdrops and add them to my library but program does not seem to recognize them. did I do something wrong or is subscription limited to only 3 actions? I put them in the correct folder. also if I create my own actions can I save that to actions? please be kind as this is my first opening of the program and my first questions. forgive me if I seem stupid at the moment. I will get better.

OK i have been fuddling around with the material editor trying to get something like a blood spatter effect, its not blood thought more like oil but most people know what a blood spatter looks like , the best i have been able to produce is a orb that slowly bubbles then does nothing , any suggestions as to the correct settings i should use?, the effect is to show a bullet puncturing a hydraulic hose if thats any help

sorting out weird patches i run into one that refused to get covered. then i realize this could have something to do with the shape of the piece; it could be interpreted as i kind of tube. and i know for a fact there's a page about this somewhere but i can't find it. what is the logic here; if i have a hole - well, two holes - with 4 or 5 CP's then it's not doable (=a patch) in principle; i need to plan around and model more to make the piece more of a mesh formation?

I know I should know how to do this, but I don't. I've been messing around with it for forever and finally decided that I need help. It's probably something simple that I'm not doing, but I can't figure out what it is... Okay, so I'm playing around with the Knight and reusable actions in the Dark Room (in the projects folder). I have him be idle and then yawn. (No problem) Where I run into a problem is when I try to have him walk on a path after that. When I create the path and constrain him to it and the type of walk I want, then it automatically constrains him to the path when he is idle and yawns. I take me like 5 hours to do a 15 second clip but when i saw demonstrations it took them 30 seconds to rendering. I love the program ans everything works fine, I just want to know if i can speed it up.

Hello I'm newbie in A:M. I'm learning the soft using the tutorials. In Take a Wlalk, my rabbit stops wlalking on the path at about 20% of the line. I see something like separate vectors in the path line.The path is a straight line builded with only two points. Where am I wrong? Rémy

With all the help on the forum I've managed to come up with a cool walk cycle along a path in a choreography. Thank you! Now, I'm mixing 3 different actions in the same choreography - character begins with the walk cycle (action 1), does a hopscotch move (action 2), then takes a few steps, turns, stops, and looks at a sign (action 3). How do I get the character to stop moving along the path as she looks at the sign (or how do I add an action to this character in the choreography that is NOT constrained to the path after she completes the actions I want constrained to the path)? Hi all, I'm doing a project that involves rotoscoped video with animated characters. I've found that AM will not accept DV AVI's and when I use cinepak or indeo to compress the video, upon rendering in AM the digital video turns out terrible - get lines all across the screen. Any suggestions on how I should bring the digital video into AM and then render? Thanks, Mike

I am redoing the bones for my model using the skeleton provided in hash, i bring the model into an action window, but the bones that i have applied to the legs do not show up. I would appreciate the help. The knees are also skewed quite a bit for some reason. An uploaded fixed vesrion of the model would help too. Guy_v2.0.mdl

I do have a chor setup containing a dome and a character. I use the dome with an hdr image for reflection (reflection map on a material on the character itself is out of the question). So my problem is this: I need to render an animation with only the character (alpha) eg make the dome cast shadows but not make it visible in the render... Any tips?

Quick question... Is it possible to delete a control point from a spline so that the curve of the spline is maintained? Something like when you shift click to add a CP to a spline and the CPs before and after the new CP automatically adjust their bias to maintain the curve. For instance, I have the following spline... But when I delete a CP, it distorts the spline, which is what I don't want to happen. Thanks... Al

I need to actually remove poses from a project and start over however when I delete the relation ships, I go to set up new poses yet in the pose sliuder box I see that the old ones still remain. AND worst of all it effects the new poses I make. Say I do a pose where the character smiles , the cps hardly move like they demonstrated when in mucle mode setting up the pose. Ive done this many many times but never ran into it before. here is the screen shot. note that in the Relation ships below you see the pose labled PK Blink, PK Happy and etc but yet in the top pose slider box you see the same ones PLUS blink smile and etc? Alright, Thank you so much for the quick replies on my last post. I appreciate it. So I get the program up and running with no problems. But for some reason when the program starts up I am not seeing the camera view. I drag a character out of the library on to the stage - a load bar at the bottom goes to 100% but I see nothing for some reason. No grid, no camera, no character. I must be doing something retarded. yeah, uh..... the lens flares in A:M, i want some of them to be so that they dont shine light, cast shadows or make it look like its a light, i want it to just be a lens flare, nothing else, for example, a very shiney knife, exe. i hope you know what i mean because i cant seem to know how else to say it. thx

Probably a simple property that got altered, but as I'm trying to do Exercise 6 and position shaggy, some of his bones have turned blue in colour and I can no longer control them properly. I can't grab the base of his hand bone and drag the whole arm around...I can't move it at all except for rotating it, or if I use the arrow keys on my keyboard it actually will deform the model itself. The bones that have remained while when un-selected operate as I would expect, just not the ones that are blue when un-selected. Hi I am trying to apply a decal to my model, but every time I bring it in, it appears it appears very pixellated (large pixels). The original photoshop psd file is 7670kb and is very clear and sharp. I have tried saving it as as jpg, bmp and tga files of different sizes and reducing/enlarging them, and varyious resolutions but it always seems to come in to AM the same. I have searched the AM forums for an answer to no avail. I'm sure someone out there knows what I am doing wrong or will know the resolution! Thanks in anticipation Hoggy

Ok, I did the tutorial on Yves' web site (very helpful by the way) for wood grain. http://www.ypoart.com/ I've been trying to make railroad ties. ( Rodger Reynolds has been a great help by the way). Anyway, I made the material and it looks fine, how ever in the final render the grain seems to go away. I notice if I angle the model or camera this happens. Is this a normal look for a material? I thought you would be able to make out the grain no matter what angle it's at. Any advice would be great. Andy

I worked my way through the dust tutorial a couple of times and am having a problem with the constraint. When I select the "translate" to and select either toe bone the dust object does not move to the toe as it does in the video. It says it's attached in the project workspace but in the window workspace it is not near the toes. Is this a Vista thing or did I miss something? Do I need to just drag it to the toe bone?

say, i finish the "take a walk" exercise and it completed great but when i make the model move with the action walk i created, the rabbit walks sooooooo fast. and in the video he walks slowly. now animation did crash but not before saving the project and action walk. i dont know if that has something to do with it or is it the Hast Stride Length.

I'm following the modeling tutorials in the new David Rogers book, and I'm trying to extrude a cube. Easy, right? Well, when I'm in the front view and I try and extrude the four cps, instead of extruding them outwards, it just makes another square right beneath. When I change to the perspective view the square gets extruded, but it's all cockeyed. Any help or pointers out there? Thanks Sruli

So I can't right click. I am using a mac and as everyone knows you can't right click even with there new mouse. So since I can't right click is there another button that I can press on my keyboard that will simulate the right click when I am holding something. For example: I want to attach a bone to another bone and I have no right click how would I attach them?

I made a group for "top eyelids" but realized I wanted to move them independently at times. So I selected "top eyelids," hit "G" for group mode, held alt and deselected one eye's cpts. But NOW my "top eyelids" group doesn't select the cpts I deselected at that moment. Is there a way to narrow your cpt selection from a group without altering that group?

Happy new year everybody. For "good intention" for the the new year I plan to animate more, so here I am at a atarting point again trying to achieve some usable propeller spin.. I did an action for the FW-plane according to the wheelspinvideo-tut , turning quaternian to euler and adding 720 on frame 30 for two turns. So far so good. But the action doesn´T seem to cycle properly (see video) and second, I would like to have a poseslider or handle or such to turn up and down its speed. How can this be done? Any help anybody?
