-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No "me too!" posts
-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hello, I'm looking for a way to adjust a model via it's bone hierarchy, and then apply those changes back to the original model. In case that doesn't make sense, here's what I'm trying to do. I'm exporting models (via amxtex) for use in a role playing game. One particular model needs to be of a dead body. The body doesn't need to be animated, so I don't need to export an animation, but I do need to move the limbs around to suit the position I want. I also want to add some other static scenary objects to the model before exporting. Thanks, Scott

I was asked by one of the council members at a local public school (Maryvale Public School). To come in and show some animation work done in a program that was easy to learn and use for kids starting off in the animation field. I was just wondering what coupon codes where available to me to purchase AM since the primary use wasn't for me but for students at this public school. I believe AM to be the best and easiest for me to show them since I'm comfortable using splines in other applications and I could adapt to AM quite easily. I will be using AM for myself as well, but the primary reason why be to show the kids what it's all about (It may even lead to m…

Ok, so I have decided that rather than try and tackle brand new material when I'm exhausted at the end of the day, I'm going to try to finish things I'm a bit more proficient at, like modeling projects I've been working on. I only need to do a few more parts for my treasure chest, and it will be done. One of those things is a clasp for the padlock to go through. I'm trying to make a U-shaped piece of metal, and have drawn out my path and the cross-section for the path. When I do the extrude along a path operation, though, I get a strange twist in the object. I don't see any kind of twist settings in the plugin, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. …

OK here's my Project that frustrated me into putting A:M down for awhile. I was coming up with a new idea for the Exercise 6 The doors stuck. I had everything working great but had 2 problems First I will tell you whats supposed to happen: --Keekat butters his corn, he goes to take a bite and the doorbell rings (you'll kinda figure that out ). Then The bell rings again while he's thinking about how this always happens. This is where the problem occurs and my work stopped, I want to go to a side camera angle (simple) then Have Keekat push out from the table and jump out of the chair to go answer the door. Problems 1. I could never get a 2nd Kinematic c…

I am having trouble with multiple control points. I'm using 2005. I create a sphere by making a 2 point line, latheing it (lathing?) then I delete the bottom cps. I then highlight all the cps and rotate by typing in 90 degrees. The result is a perfect sphere with the exception that multiple cps are created at each point. When I pull one cp away, there is 1 or 2 more where I pulled the first one away. Can anyone help with this? Thanks

I'm assuming that the individual models, etc. from the Extras CD are free for use. But what about the component parts of the "project" sections? For instance, could I use Jim Talbot's leopard model, even if it's not out there as an individual model, but only as part of the project? (Hypothetically. That's not actually the model I'm playing with.) I guess I don't need to ask permission to use the Soap Opera set. But still...

Howdy all. I just purchased the web subscription to get back into using A:M (started using it back in the early 90s when it was Playmation)..but am having some trouble. I'm running on an MacBook Pro with 3GB of RAM and 10.5.1, but am crashing constantly. It's a clean install of 10.5.1 so there are no old preference files from my older version of A:M that I previously purchased. What I'm wondering is: 1. Is A:M 15.0a the only version that I can run under the web subscription? I was expecting to be running a final release, not alpha. 2. Is there a specific version of the OS that works better than others for the most current release of A:M? Thanks! I'm dying…

Embeding? 1. When is it useful? 2. What are the downsides to embedding, like when should I not use it? I ask because I recently have been having trouble when bringing projects to other systems even though the project is being accessed the same way via Ethernet storage from all systems. The other systems seem to have to re link to the source files? Dont know why. The only work around I have found is embed but aside from a large file I do not exactly know whats happening and what I should look out for.

I have a little animation in my head which involves prolly Kee-Kat walking around on a stage, with a book in his hand, giving a short speech. As he moves around, I'd like the soft back book to flop around as a secondary motion. What tools will I be working with to make the book move? Newtons Physics? Weighted CPs? Just wanted to know what to start reading up on.

Following along with the book Excercise 5 Take A Walk, I've been unable to fix the slipping occuring. I've adjusted the stride length, shortening both points, lengthening both points, lengthening one point while shortening the other, nothing seems to really work. How do you adjust the stride length to get rid of slipping?

I was wondering how you change the line colors in the Decal View because I have a white background(for now) and I can't see the lines. Also how does the UV Mapper work? I mean I can just take the UV Coordinate picture and put it into an outside image. How does it track that? It doesn't make sense to me.

Greetings, I'm considering purchasing A:M, and I merely need to know if the $79.00 A:M Subscription is required in order to install and use A:M? Are there any other plug-ins that I will need to purchase in order for A:M function at its full capability? I work with Zbrush 3. Does A:M allow for the import of 3ds., Collada, or obj. files for rigging? Thanks, Terry

I am using vers. 15.0j+. I am able to render output files in MOV format with sound, but not in the AVI format. I seached the archives and this is similar to another person's problem from March 21, 2010. In that case, he just decided to keep using MOV. However, I would like to use AVI. Does anyone know where I can find some way of figuring out what the problem is?

Hi I just can't get through the manuals - it's not my best way of learning, and the software I have doesn't really match what's in the manual - and i want to do stuff not covered in the manual. The best way for me to learn is to spend time with an expert. If there's an Animation Master Master in the UK, ideally within the Thames Valley, that would be prepared to help with questions and take me through what i want to do and answer the questions I have, I'd really really really appreciate it. Please email me neil@fairbrother.net Thanks and best regards Neil

Hello. I have been working on the "Flower Power" Tutorial. I have viewed the video tutorial and gone through the book. I can't get my click-drag to select all the points in, as example, the stem. I am in front view in model screen and I have lathed my spline. It looks fine. However, when I try to group those points together by click-dragging as he does in the video, it only selects visible points. It does the same thing with the rings: I will resize the middle of the top 3 rings, then look at it from a different view and realize that it is oblong. Can anyone tell me why this is happening? Is there a function turned on or off that I am …

I remember a discussion recently about using bias handles; I think this post (Straighten a spline ring) was part of what I was thinking, but I vaguely remember there being more discussion on bias handles recently. Anyways, I'm starting to come to the conclusion that if I'm making a lot of bias handle changes, especially involving increase of the magnitude, the real problem is that I don't have enough geometry (splines and CPs) to support the structure that the model needs. For example, if I have rings of 4-CPs on the arms and am changing the bias handles to make them the right shape, I probably need 6- or 8-CP spline rings for the arm. Would you agree or disagr…

I can rotate him to supine and sure enough just the top half of him shows but only in shaded mode. I can see the whole wire figure. Renders above the y axis only. I can stand him on his head and see only his feet! I wonder if it is because I don't know how to add him to my library and I am just importing him. hello all. hope everyone is doing well. i was wondering while im learning how to model, does someone who knows how to model, also have to also be good at animating? or vice-versa? like, say if youre the type of person who is "so-so" at modeling, but if someone gave you a pre-built rigged model, you know you could animate the heck out of it? or if you know you suck at or dont have the patience to animate, but would love to be down with a project just to build and model a character? is this acceptible that although a person is assigned a job doing either/or, knowing the other is not a requirement, i.e., and artist that gets paid to model doesnt need to know how to anim…

so i'm on 15j+ and 32bit OS. and i'm in love with those "AO only" renderings people post on jenpy's fast AO thread. they gave me a new script idea. something similar should be possible with just light, shadow, in a colorless environment? it's the oomph in the beautiful blurry shape-moulding gradients that's the issue. actual question: what to study? a specific light category, exr, post? tips on how to make it swift? this project is aeons into the future, just need to nail a few images down, get the atmosphere recorded now that it's so alive in my mind's eye. Hi I was doing really well with a new model, but it started responding VERY slowly - a simple pan took 30 seconds and selecting a control point about the same. It is not a massive model. I found that if I was in perspective mode it was fine, or if I turned the Rulers off it was fine. I have several marker lines and the arrow indicators for these seem to 'shimmer'. Anyone any ideas as it is unusable at the moment with the rulers on. I could carry on without rulers, but I would like to know what is causing the problem. I am running version 15c with 3.5gig RAM, PENTIUM 4, 3ghZ, 120gig HD. Thanks Hoggy

Okay... I downloaded V 12.0 T of A:M and the Help installer for same. I have attempted several times to use the help installer.... and it connects to the Hash site, I think, and begins to DL the files... A couple of times it "failed to connect to server" or some similar error msg. So, I downloaded the Zip of the Help file HTML. I unzipped this to the help folder in the Hash directory (that was probably the wrong thing to do). Then later, I tried again to use the help installer... It seemed as though it was working... said it had about 174 minutes left.... (and I'm on DSL, shouldn't that be faster?). Then all of a sudden (about 3 minutes later)…
