User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I am trying to get a piece of film to fly in from off camera. I have a path setup in the choreography and have constrained the model to the path. Only the model refuses to bend with the path, instead the whole model moves about the path as one. The short end of it is look at the home page for animation master, the strip of film in the upper left corner of the page is similar to what I want the piece of film (model) to do, but instead of modeling the entire strip, I want one small piece of the film to bend and fold as it runs along the path. suggestions?

Hi everybody, I don't know if I have a glitch or what, but I have had this A:M software for a while and I am finally getting around to using it. I went through the first tutorial (still image of Keekat) and hit the "render to file" button, saving it as a targa file on the desktop as in the online tutorial and the final scene just renders black, no KeeKat. What did I miss? Thanks! Bob

I have a model that has bones and CPs assigned to these bones. Or so I thought. When in bone mode and I click on the top level object in the PWS, a black bone shows up. According to what I have read, this is the default bone to with all "unassigned" CPs are assigned. I have looked and looked at my model and cannot find any black CPs. What can I do?

I'm working on a fire extinguisher model to put out some text I've set on fire. I'm at the spray part of it and am not sure how to handle it. I was thinking about using a particle system to generate the spray on the end of the nozzle. I want the fire extinguisher to be able to be "turned on" though so I need the spray to be off and later on. My other thought is to use a small circular model placed in the end of the hose to generate the spray from. I can put this in place or remove it any time I want. Is there a way I could group this with the end of the nozzle so I don't have to consantly position them individually? ie if I move the nozzle the spray model shou…

I have worked with AM about a year and a half now... Anyaways I'm having problems trying to make a gun fire. I've been trying to use a small sprite emitter, but for the life of me I can't get it to work right. I've been working with the flames.tga that comes with AM. What I am struggling with is that I need the sprite system to be below the camera in one frame and appear in front of the gun instantly to make it appear to shoot. However every time I do this a long fire trail follows it. Is there any way to force the images to stay attached to the emitter while the emmiter is moving? Please Help! I've had this problem for so long!

This is my first attempt at creating a character. So he is not so good yet. My splinemanship needs improving but I have no dead ends nor do I have more than 4 intersecting splines. I kinda like his look though. I started with the stock rabbit character and redid the body a bit. and completely made the head from scratch. I am welcoming all crits and advice. His body is fully rigged as the rabbit was, but I still need to rig his head, eyes, and mouth. I only posted this so that I could get advice and crits. So please hit me hard. This is a learning experience.

But this forum says i'm not allowed to upload "this type of file". It's an "AVI". What do I have to do to upload this? Ok to check out the program I bought a subscription. First thing I tried to do was add some actions I got off eggdrops and add them to my library but program does not seem to recognize them. did I do something wrong or is subscription limited to only 3 actions? I put them in the correct folder. also if I create my own actions can I save that to actions? please be kind as this is my first opening of the program and my first questions. forgive me if I seem stupid at the moment. I will get better.

hey everyone, I just wanted to post my first model in AM, and get your opinions. This is going to be a surfer character in a :30 second commercial south park like spot. So I will be exporting out to 2D. It took me roughly 3 days of frustration to learn the finer points of modeling in splines, but once you get used to it....well it is great. This model was made freehand, no rotoscoping. I do have a character sketch I am going by but since it is a simple toon, I didnt want to roto it. I started this around 10am yesterday and this is what I have so far. I have to confess, I hijacked the hands from another model, I just dont have time to model hands lol. So I …

Hey, all-- I'm working through the David Rogers book and I'm making your standard remote control. It is laid out with circle-holes (lathed from a diagonal line, top circle deleted, resulting in a four-point hole) for buttons and a rectangular face around them, with the face comprising five-point patches connecting to the holes' cps. So, theoretically, especially since it will not be animated with any flexing/bending, having a 0-y-scale mesh, even chock full o' five-point meshes, should be crease and wrinkle-free, yes? But at every corner where two or four five-point meshes join, I'm getting a tiny crease. I've tried various combinations of how to lay out …

Hello, I am getting very frustrated trying to figure out how to get a flag animated using SimCloth. I believe I have followed all the steps correctly but my flag keeps flying away. I tried this on my own model as well as the model in the tutorial. This is what I have done ( hope you can follow ) I created a Flag and Pole model. Created a group for attached and another for the flag. Created a bone for the mast and applied all CP to the bone. Set attached to on for the attached group ( both in Model mode and Choreography mode ) Created the Force and Turbulence as outlined in the Tutorial. Created the Spring System by selecting the flag group i…

I'm having trouble getting the right results using the flatten command, and its mostly because of the instructions in the manual. It says "To correctly orient the pivot, click on the Red handle at the end of the Green Axis (to orient the pivot around the X axis) and drag in the direction of the arrow in the image below until the Properties panel shows -90° rotation in the X axis." But the properties panel doesn't tell me anything!

I have a face model that I am trying to decal, and I am a little confused about how AM implements this feature. It's not quite like UV mapping in LW or Maya, and it's also quite different from the prior version of AM I was using in the past. I built a head model that I am trying to get a reference for texturing. (1) Can I only flatten a model in a choreography window, and in muscle mode? (2) When I flatten the model, how do I apply a decal to it? I can't seem to do this in the choreography mode. (this after I spent almost an hour figuring out how to get the axial orientation correct. (3) Assuming you tell me how to apply a decal to a flattened model, how do I '…

Hi all, This is my first attempt at flattening a model and applying a decal. I have created a PNG file with an alpha channel in GIMP2 and applied it to the flattened face in AM. Two five point patches at the center above the eye brows have holes in them and the background of the PNG is white and not transparent. I have included the PNG and a screen capture of AM showing the problems. I don't know what I am doing wrong. Any help will really be appreciated. Thanks, Flatten_Face.zip

Hey Guys: It's been a while since using A:M... I can't remember where the flattening function is!!! Can someone guide me through this again? I know that you select the model, use the rotate tool, move the pivot, and then flatten... but I can't remember where the flatten function is... and sorry... that book that David Rogers did is pretty good... but the guy almost never tells you where anything is located in the controls. Thank you soooo much. I am using A:M v. 15 - Justin

I've searched through the forums and found some great tutorials on flattening models for decal preparation. I have had some success using this technique, but am not sure how to proceed with a particular model. The tutorials that I found deal mainly with the face, and not the whole head. Can someone explain or point me in the right direction on how to flatten an object like a pair of pants for decalling? Is it possible to flatten the pants so that both the front and back of the pants are visible at the same time? I tried flattening and decalling the front first, then the back, but you can definitely see where the different decals were applied to the two ar…

I'm working on a realistic model of my Acoustic guitar, I plan on putting a mahogany decal on the sides. The grain will be running lengthwise on the sides. I would think that I should "flatten" the sides to apply the decal. I did a search and tried to follow Rusty's wonderful tutorial, but I'm not doing a face, and I think I could get by with a simple overview of the process. Mainly, How do I flatten and once there how do I get it back to where it was? Thanks, Myron

I am looking for two things, I would have expected to be simple in 3D: 1. It ocurred, that I needed an animation rendered backwards, so I thought maybe just setting in render the frames to start from frame 30 and end frame 0 for example, BUT..... that´s not accepted. 2. I just want to flip the cameraview, so that the chara doesnt run left right but right left. Thought about scaling the x value to minus something, BUT.... there is no scaling for camera. I know , both this could be done in post, but my question is, is there an easy way to do this in AM, that I have overlooked?

Before choosing between jumping off a nearby cliff or dusting off the old light-box having ripped the rig out of this model three times and still having the same problem - I thought I'd put this to the forum. The character is rigged with the 2001 skeleton. As soon as I move the arms downwards they flip and/or disappear. It's most likely a constraint problem (?) but after much trial and error and comparing arm bone by arm bone to models with the same rig and that work, I admit defeat. Any ideas? I created a landscape using the terrain wizard and wanted to populate it with flowers. I decided to use the crowd flock and tested it with 16patch spheres 1st from the primitives library. I did a quick test render and sure enough there were the spheres floating just above my landscape. I then used the "flock to surface constraint" to constrain the spheres to the landscape surface. Sure enough, after scrolling through the frames a bit, the spheres moved onto the surface in my choreography window. When I did a test render, much to my confusion, some horrible great big black shadow things had appeared on the landscape, as though some massive thing was casting a shadow. I…

I have a butterfly model. It has an action. I want to create a flock of them. Well I found flocking, it appears in Chor in when you're in muscle mode and right click on a character/ under NEW/Flocking. I chose "birds." Got that far and played with settings, etc. Bounding circle appears around character (light falloff?) but the characters do not appear as a flock...only one character -- I expected to see 15 of them appear, but nothing... obviously I'm doing something wrong here. Any help out there? Thanks, Kem

Hi! I'm looking to create a field of grass with the "Flocking" technique in A:M. I have created a very simple "blade of grass" with two bones that will allow it to sway. I've followed the instructions on how to create a flock (using the "crowd" plug-in). My "population" setting is at "20," which is the default, but when I drop my blade of grass on the flcoking manipulator I create, only two (2) blades of grass show up. I'd like to populate my scene with more than 20 blades, so how can I populate the flock? It doesn't seem to make sense that the program isn't filling the scene with the default 20, and only populating with two. Any help would be much app…

Is there a way to constrain a crowd in the flocking engine so that it does not intersect with other models (it's fine, and perhaps even somewhat of a benefit ift hey intersect with each other a bit)? I'm trying to add a shitload of trees to my choreography and I figured I could put them in one at a time but it would be great if I could just do a crowd or a couple crowds and have all my trees added. This of course leads to another question. If one can add them without them popping into existing models in the choreography is there a way to randomize the scale on all three axis a bit? So I get different sized and shaped trees? And lastly is there a way to ran…
