-Organize and inform others about user groups, IRC chats, image and animation contests, job opportunities, etc.
-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.
-No flames of any kind.
-No Off Topic posts. (Posts in the Off Topics section should be related to A:M in some form or fashion or benefit the A:M community as a whole).
-No soliciting of any kind without prior approval.

-No discussion of Hash Internal Affairs (finances, advertising, PR.)
-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)
-No very general questions like: "how do I make a good 3D model" make your questions as complete and concise as possible.
If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hey everyone. I've been out of the "computer specs" loop for years. I used to build computers when I was younger, but phased out. I have a laptop now, but I don't think it's powerful enough for this program (graphically it leaves "trails" of the textures when a model moves). So I'm in the market for a new laptop. One that is for gaming and animation (figured if it can do gaming it should be good for animation.) Now, I called Alienware and received a quote with specs, but I heard they were overpriced. This is what they said: Intel Core i7 740QM Quad Core Processor, 1.73GHz (2.93GHz Turbo Mode, 6M Cache) 8GB Dual Channel Memory (2x 4GB DDR3) 15.6-i…

Hello.. I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem and/or if there's a fix for it? I'm working through the manual tutorials so I can follow through and get my AM diploma :-). However. I'm stuck on the first lesson, "You're The Director". If you'll look at the attached screenshot, when Keekat's Dynamic Pose is at 100%, his right foot is not positioned as it is in the picture, but instead gets sorta "rolled" to one side. What's more, when I put the slider back to 0%, that same foot remains in the same position, even while everything else goes back to the default pose. What to do? I'm using version 2005/Sasquatch (12v+) Thanks! EDIT: Ran…

Hello, I am new and I'm trying to find out how I can make my own patrticle sprites. I've done the Smok, Wind, Fire tutorial but I don't understand what does what, I just did it. Can some one please guide me to a tutorial, or and explanation how to manipulate and come up with your own particle sprites? Right now I'm trying to make a rocket with a trail of fire and smoke.

I'd like to collect a few Cameras to add to the Extra DVD as it seems like it might be a great resource to explore. In particular I'm interested in collecting a variety of render styles with settings for people to examine on the DVD. If you have an old project laying around gathering dust you can import it into v13 and see what settings are there. If its a keeper save the camera as an external .CAM file and share it here. If you'd prefer your particular settings to be revealed when the DVD is released that is fine too. You can send the files to me via email if you prefer. Attached is the plain ol' default v13 camera. All settings are (of course) default! …

Trying to get the hang of doing lip synch and using the dope sheet by following the instructions in TaoAM, though I'm not doing the KeeKat exercise, just following the steps. It works up until I click "New dope sheet" and enter the text, a couple of words appear in the PWS, then it crashes. happened three or four times so far. They're all simple words, in fact I keep shortening the phrase to go easy on the app. Dictionary.dic is present where it should be. I know this is an area not a lot of folks here have experience in, but does anyone have an idea about how to proceed. I'm using v16b.

I was wondering if anyone one would be interested in me making a tutorial. I don't claim to know all the ins and outs of AM but I have learned a lot working full time for the past 2 1/2 years. I mainly am a modeler, so I could do some tutorials showing how I built some things. I was thinking about some exercises for beginners, then move to more specific items like cars or buildings. So anyone interested? They would be free for all. Hopefully I could post them on the forums.

Hello everyone! I have a question, does anyone why whenever I use a translate and a orient constraint object on another object in a choreography file, but once you import that choregraphy file onto another, you have to constrain the object again? Another question I have is that I just added a translate and orient contraints from an object to a hand of a character and now the objects aren't attached to the hand. is there a way I can fix them without re-constraining them? thanks, J.w.

In Barry's training He says that your patches need to be facing the correct way all the same. I just realized that some of my patches are not all facing the same direction. The correct normals plugin does not really work. WHat are the negative effects of this? Can I just ignore it?

Here's the box I put myself into: I have a character looking at another and eye focus is manually placed on the 2nd character. The camera then starts to move in on the first character for a close up and character turns to address the viewer. The camera is still in motion as the character looks at it. I figured I'd be clever and translate eye-focus to the camera. However, so the eyes would move somewhat naturally, I'd go to the channel for enforcing translation and changed the type from hold to linear. Well, sure enough, it sorta worked... but not totally as I expected. As soon as enforcement rose above 0%, the eye focus immediately leaped to a point just a bit in f…

Somehow my choreography settings are going haywire. From one day to the next they change. I have been working on a fluids project for several days. Last Saturday I thought I just about had it right. When I started again on Monday, nothing was the same. Real-time rendering slowed to a crawl. I could not change the size of the particles, Nothing was the same. I started from scratch by creating a new project. Last night I left it this way: Fluids7e.mov When I started again today this is what I got: Fluids7f.mov Even though I had changed the size in the channel (by dragging the key frame marker) it did nothing. I then opened the the property pane…

I don't know how to search for this but is it possible to create an animation in which there is an animated person filmed with a camera? Or maybe the oposite: an animated character in an animated real world. I saw a tutorial on having a model walking on a real road but the road wasn't animated. The background would have to be animated. If it is possible, could some1 point me a tutorial? thanks

Hello. I'm having trouble with the basic movement of my character. What I'm looking to do (and this is just me practicing), is have a character kick with his one leg, bring it down, then kick with the other. (This applies to arms as well.). However, after I create the movement with his one leg and begin the other, the 2nd leg begins to move at the very BEGINNING of the entire animated sequence (during playback) instead of AFTER the 1st leg movement. Any help? Suggestions? Thanks. Steven

First off, this program rocks. But I keep encountering an error that is preventing me from saving ANY of my work. "Exception #005. Saving. Atempting to continue, but this object may have saved incorrectly. The Door's Stuck Objects. If you can repeat this exception please send data and steps to http://www.hash.com/reports." There's no way I can send my data, that takes for friggin ever. I can save my project just fine up until I receive that error, then it's like it knocks out everything I saved before that and my project reverts as though I hadn't touched it. Any suggestions? Jake

I'm interested in getting the look of 5 frames per second animation, with no interpolation. I'm wondering what is the most efficient way to do this. For example, I can set the FPS in A:M to 5 FPS and render an AVI file. I'm not sure what is in the AVI file -- is it just 5 frames of data per second of action, or is it translated to 30 frames per second for display purposes? Or is that a meaningless question. I guess to display my animation on TV, I need to make a DVD, which requires using a DVD-making program that will input an AVI file. I'm wondering if the 5 FPS avi file I make with A:M will be interpreted correctly by the DVD-making program to create a…

I find that if a texture is applied 'planar', it looks as it ought to. [unless stretched over a large area] But if textures are applied spherically, or cylindrically, [even if the bounding box area is reduced to fit] they want to look blurry, or smeared across the object. Has anyone else had this problem?

Yeah, time to texture map this thing. So while I'm gradually frustrating myself flattening pieces out(The tutorial on the Virtual Media Studios site was very useful), I start thinking "Ya know.…

I can quickly get overwhelmed by wanting to know how to do everything in A:M. So I have finally decided to study modeling. I guess I'll start with making my set of primatives, how to make holes in things, etc...So you are gonna see alot of examples and questions of how to do it better. I'm going back to Jeff Canton's tutorials and then moving on to whatever else I can find. I want to make frie…

I'm a high school teacher and my students are about to start The Art of Animaiton Master. This is my second attempt with a class - last year we got a little frustrated but we are giving it another try! After showing them the demo, they were really excited. I've seen the demo done in person and it sold me on the simplicity of the software. However, after trying it myself - nothing works and suddenly it does not seem so simple! I understand the importance of doing the exercises in the book - this just seems like a good…

Sorry Rodney, do not know where to post this! Why do I get creases and dents in my splines? Now this problem does not happen all the time, just on some tied places and curves. I tried to adjust the problem with the bias handles but no success. I have a jpg image that I would like to show you so you can see what I mean. Hi - I have a potential client that want their plastic bottle modelled in 3D and animated to show how it works.
