A few months back I asked a question about accidental changes of bones heirachy in the chor. The problem is that, it is sometimes possible to change the heirachy by accidentally dragging the bone in the PWS. If you spot it before going too far you can revert but, if not, you get the problem illustrated here. The heel has become part of the knee heirachy. My recollection is that, the only way to overcome that, was to delete the bone, then go back in and reset the keys at the appropriate points ? Have been working away on the dance sequence and saving iterations as I go . Only have 10-15 seconds to go ( out of 90 ) so a bit reluctant to go back and…

For a 2D animation spline, A:M stores the bias as gamma and magnitude. What are those values and how do I convert them to a 2D vector? Apparently the gamma is the value of a trigonometric function, but which one?

From Tom, in another thread... I'm not sure what AVX is. Are you checking "Import as an animation or a sequence of images" when you choose your targa series?

New user here. When I select multiple bones in choreography and rotate them, and then try to undo the rotation, A:M's behaviour is very strange. It takes lots of steps to revert to the original state, like this: little nudge, nothing, nothing, little nudge, nothing, nothing, little nudge, etc. The program may also crash in the process. Can anyone reproduce this? Is this a known issue? Generally, A:M (32-bit) is very unstable on my system.

A long time ago, in a different thread it was explained how to use Frame burn as a post effect to get the timecode burned in at render time. I should have thought of it before but, I rendered a sequence overnight and now need to go back and correct the errors. Frame Burn would have helped in that. Drat ! So it seemed it might be possible to do in a composite way by putting the renders on a layer and putting Frame Burn on those renders? However, when looking at them the file name is there but not the 00:00:00 time code sequence. The post effect is active, applied in the render settings is there another step I'm missing ? simon

Hi, I've already Emailed Support and Stephan directly, but yesterday when I went to renew my sub there was an error at purchase confirmation that read as though the order hadn't been accepted. I tried another couple of times and got the same error. Giving up I went back to my account summary and saw I'd been charged for 3 subscriptions! I later got order confirmations for all 3 subs but I only need 1 and it's my wife's credit card I need this sorting as quickly as possible so she doesn't get annoyed at me. Plus it told me the orders hadn't been accepted so it's not like I deliberately bought 3 subs. Anyway the 3 order numbers are 8277, 8278 and 8279. I have act…

With the recent talk of Copy/Pasting poses I thought I'd revisit Dopesheets... For years I've wanted to put together a tutorial on the extended use of A:M's Dopesheet and have consistently failed to do it. The attached isn't much improved from that but rather than throw it away it might be of use to someone. Key points/takeaways: - Dopesheets are a powerful tool - Dopesheets are useful for more than just lipsync/phonemes - There are lots of things we don't know about A:M (lots of features we don't effectively utilize too) - It's vitally important to use numbers instead of letters when accessing some aspects of the Dopesheet workflow Standard di…

This model was sculpted and retopoed in 3DCoat and then exported as an .obj. Then imported into A:M. In the last step several faces across the object disappeared. First I thought "flipped normals", but this does not seem to be the case. I have looked at the object in both Blender and Messiah Studio, and here everything seems okay. Anybody have an idea on whats going on? And off course how to repair, without destroying the underlying UVs of the object?

While reading Martin's post from earlier today, Stolen Smells, I followed the link to YouTube, and then happened upon the Hash CG History channel on YouTube (very cool, if you haven't checked it out), and it reminded me of a project I had worked on in a day gone by... TBT Circa 1998 - Review and Herald New Releases 1998 conference! https://youtu.be/sHgrs2pu6Z8 I had worked on a video to announce all the books that would be released that year by the Review & Herald Publishing Association, and a live action Book Store Manager would be meeting some Interesting Characters! If any of you are looking for an excuse to visit Florida, this is is it =) http://fortmyersfilmfestival.com/ I won't be able to attend this festival because of work. And our weather is nicer here. =) But if you happen to be in the area, check it out. =)

Hi. I just upgraded to version 18 and I am trying to import a video to use as a rotoscope for compositing. It appears that version 18 no longer supports .mov files. Is that the case? When I try a .avi file I get an error message that the file is corrupted or not a type supported. The same files work perfectly in version 15 (which I know is a big gap as far as versions go.) Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

In addition to the Hash gift certificates for the top three entries in the Sci-Fi image contest, the top ten entrants will be receiving the a DVD of Mark Largent's all-A:M-made "The Wobbling Dead," an animated puppet parody of the AMC series "The Walking Dead." Now you have no reason not to dust off that sci-fi entry you didn't quite get finished, polish it up and jump into the fray. Contest deadline July 6 Don't be a lazy zombie! I had let my version 16 expire back in november and had to use my version 12 cd version these past few months . So I had forgotten how nice 16 was. Today I finally got version 17 and have to say --wow its so much nicer than 12 --by light years. ANd renders seem faster than 16 . The render speed seems very fast indeed. My only thoughts for anyone with 12 or older for sure ....just toss that aside and upgrade asap ----you will be very happy indeed . Its AM yummyiness. Nice job developer(s). Smiles . Now on to having some fun.

A random test had me using the Muttiple Models on a Path wizard and unfortunately I get a crash each time I attempt it. Perhaps someone can verify? Create a simple model (to be placed on the path in the chor). In the Chor window create a Path In the PWS select the Path and Right Click (the only option should be Multiple Models on a Path) Follow the instructions and select your model and apply. At this point A:M crashes for me. Edit: Figures... as soon as I post I thought to check to see if the v18 MMoP.hxt file worked in v19... and it does. So, that would be the workaround if the v19 MMop.hxt is corrupted. The file that isn't working is dated 2/6/18 a…

My next "It Can't Be Done" series will be on Simcloth in A:M. (I'm going to award myself a book by Martin Hash for suggesting that topic. ) Cloth seems to be one of those things that people find very enticing when they see it but very frustrating when they try it themselves. I think a series that builds up the knowledge base from the basics to the useful tricks would be a good thing. Here is your chance to suggest particular cloth things that you would like to see solutions for. i probably won't get to this until July, after the Image contest so you have time to think about what you want to see. tJRN4-A5I5E And if you didn't cat…

A few weeks back I learnt about Multiple master in V17 and have used it extensively when rendering. Upgraded to V18 two weeks ago and went to use Multiple Master in it today but couldn't find it. In the distant past I vaguely recall that it was possible to save an animation in a chor and edit it as an action file before reapplying in a chor ? But can't remember how to do it, can anyone kindly point me in the right direction? Baking actions seems to add a key on every frame, is there a way to just save the keys already set without adding further in the baking process ? I'm trying to do a dance sequence and, rather than redo it all, would like to use it as an action so I can get several figures doing the steps at the same time. regards simon Edit I found how to do it, clicking in PWS and selecting,EXPORT as Action. Having some bother with Toon render in V17g. ( OSX 10.85 ) At the weekend I succesfully rendered the same chor with Toon and non toon renders, then composited them together. That was at 720 HD. As the project overall will be at 1080HD I went back to try it at that res This was the non toon render When I reset the chor so that only the figure was visible and tried to Toon render it, with the same setting as used for all the other chors in the project, It crashed everytime. I've tried it about 20 or so times now, trying different variations of toon setting but without success. I just tried it with non toon and it worked but, without changing anything e…

Have a problem I've not encountered before and wondered if anybody else has and if they might have a solution ? This is a screen grab of the scene with a quick render in place. It shows the composition including the two figures. However, when I render it to file from the same camera, with no other changes, this is what comes out. A close up of one figure. Any help you can offer will be gratefully received. A bit of a puzzle! simon OSX 10.85 on a 2.3Ghz Mac mini with 4Gb of Ram AMV17g SSE3 PS I tried restarting it altogether, twice, but not change.

Does anyone have insight into this? Here is the outline of an X I have made. All the corners are Peaked CPs. X_outline.mdl If I use the Y key to add a CP on a spline, that should be a default CP with zero bias. If I add a CP on one of the short splines ( see A) and smOoth it with the O key it behaves as I expect, the two new spline segments are as straight as the old one. If I add a CP to one of the long legs of the X and smOoth it, it gets a twist to it (see B ) The default behaviour for a CP with zero bias is that its bias handle should be parallel to a line drawn between its two neighboring CPs but that is not happening in case B. Any …

Having spent the last few days trying to get some maps applied it seemed like a good idea to test them out in a scene. When I did I got a strange result. The two figures in the same scene rendered completely differently, even though the settings are the same This was the initial result, with the maps in place. ( also found a problem with the hair around the right ear ). Notice the difference between Bill and Doris? I went back into the properties panel to make sure the settings were the same, aside from the colour. Got the same result The above was all in V17g Opened the cho file in V18p and embedded everything needed, saved as 001B before testing aga…

I am realizing that this simple concept (Bone Falloff) is eluding me in ways I can't quite express. Is there a reference or example of ideal use for Bone Falloff? Alternatively, perhaps someone can walk me through a basic usage scenario? This is opposed to CP weighting except that I assume CP weighting is actually a means to define/refine Bone Falloff. Sorry if this is too vague a question. It seems to me that Bone Falloff should be a very simple concept and yet that simplicity eludes me. As such I'm looking for a very basic use case/example that demonstrates the basics.

Just a question. Its another segment of the pc landscape that might be something to try. I know development resouces for AM are very very limited but just wondered. I run a linux box at home besides my windows ones and just thought it might be a way for more sales. I have no idea of the effort required but figure if Valve with its STEAM portal is pushing into Linux it might be a thought. Speaking of Steam ---- I still think AM on Steam would be a really good thing if you could figure out a yearly sub mechanism out with them. rich

This is such a basic thing I wonder if there's a particular reason that it can't be done... We can scale and translate Rotoscopes, but we can't rotate them. This would come in very handy when you have rotos that aren't oriented correctly in an image. Is there an in-app workaround that I just don't know about? Is this something that could be implemented easily?

I am about to upgrade to V17 and presently run an Imac. My understanding is that 64bit is not available for the Mac as yet (?) but wondered what the advantages of 64bit over 32 bit are ? The reason for the question is that, if the benefits are worth while I was thinking of getting a PC laptop with W7 64bit and either getting my brother ( techy to the extreme ) to make it dual boot with OSX or use it to render work made and animated on the Imac. I hope this is not an inappropriate Question. regards simon

Have started trying to model a Trial motorbike for use in the current project. They all seemto have spoked wheelsrather than the alloy type used by road racersa nd production types. What might be the best way to model the spokes ? I recall someone suggesting using "render as lines" to a similar question in the past. Have tried that but, it came out as a solid disc. Deleted the rim part, leaving the splines behind, and they don't show up as lines, although that is selected under properties. Does Toon render have to be engaged for that to work or, am I missing something ? ( again ) Thanks simon

We were discussing bullet physics in the Hangout today and I thought I'd see how it works on the Mac. Seems to be a problem with it. I'm attempting to add parts to a model in a choreography using multiple actions, each action containing many action objects. When I add the first action, all the objects within it appear in the chor. But if I add another action, the previous one disappears. I read the manual about action objects and assumed the problem was related to "Hold last frame", "Transition to next action" and "Blend method". I thought the best combination was ON, ON & ADD. However I can only see one of the actions if the "Hold last frame" of the other is turned OFF. What am I missing?
