Hi all. Looking for some CC&C (constructive comments and criticism) on the following: Sorenson Video 2, 33 seconds, 1.2 MB, 480x204 The lunar module was graciously donated by Vernon Zehr from his private collection; all the rest is mine. The texturing for Neil Armstrong isn't done yet. Mostly I'm looking for thoughts on the movement. I'm trying to keep in mind that gravity is one-tenth of normal, but his amount of mass (inertia) remains the same, so he still has a good amount of squash and stretch even as he falls slower. Anyway, I seem to be at a point where it's OK, but not quite right, and I humbly ask for your thoughts. Thanks! Zach

Hi All, This is some setdesign I created thus far in order to bring some of my 2d comicbook creations to a 3d live for use in movies and games. At the same time, I am experimenting, if e-books from the kindle store could be a possible way for distribution of my comicbooks with these characters. The hardcopy version I tried from lulu gets way too expensive. You can see both and some more pictures at my website related to this topic: http://www.moonshinegirl.com -ONLY FOR ADULTS- Has anybody else here tried e-books for comics yet? cheers Jake

I must love robots. Well, yeah, I do, I do love robots. and comics... so, now I'm working on bringing Ashley Wood's Popbot to 3D life. Popbot is a character from the IDW comic by the same name. Still working on the IK and materials (hmm, the OSX version doesn't do weathering right) but it's to a point I'd like to share: my version: Ashleys version: Let me know what you think so far! - patrick j. clarke

Hey all, I added some new splines to an old model to try and make it more realistic with proper muscles. With anatomy books in hand, I laid in some new splines to try and make the things look right. Let me know what you think about my first iteration on this effort:

The guys at animation mentor.com asked me to produce their mascot as a sculpture. They had the model originally produced in MAYA, but I used animation master for the prep work to get it ready for the mill to cut it out. You will find spike in the models section. Along with spike I posted a sculpture of the corpse head that I used for reference.

If anyone out there who is a rigging guru wants to give me some pointers on what I have done wrong with this guy, I am ready to hear some suggestions. I used to 2001 skeleton included on the CD and rigged him according to the instructions. The trouble is he is acting peculiar when I apply some of the actions on the CD to test the rig. Is that the actions or my rigging work? His knees act very funny. I also think my hand rig is screwed up. The thumb doesn't curl. Anyone who wants to look at Gnosh can feel free. I need all the help I can get. Gnosh.mdl

Here is an attempt at getting an image with a cool morning light feel. The background is just a decal with cool light color applied and some fog effects. The foreground is modeled with a lot of small individual lights to give the impression of bounced lighting off the floor and walls, etc. Does it work? Any suggestions for improvement?

Got this idea after watch a commecial where bubbles with people fall then the people continue doing something. Thought it might be cool to have a ball or frisbee shape sail through the air and morph into something else with color and shape changes. So I volunteered Thom and did a very rough test will have to play with it a bit more as time allows wrong clip posted thought I had stopped it but I guess not. sorry for any confusion

Just playing around with A:M's mocap again, this time in v11. No real changes but I'm consistantly amazed by how well it's implemented. This took me about 60 seconds to set up: mocap_am.mov (2.7MB) Just imagine if I spent 2 minutes on the setup. If you didn't catch them before, here are a few more tests I did in v's 10 and 10.5: mocap2.mov mocap3.mov Thanks for such a well-implemented, advanced feature guys!

WoooHooo! Pump'in out the render of this one object took almost 2 hrs on a 2.5 ghz processer. But that probably has something to do with the 136 light skydome hanging over top (Thank you Yves). This one took me about 12 hrs to model, which I'm happy with. This model will soon be available at www.TurboSquid.com for sale. Enjoy

I am getting more confident in my modeling ability, so I thought I would challenge myself and TRY to model a motorcycle. Below is a couple of pics of the actual bike and the front wheel that I started on. I think one of my problems is too many CPs, but as you can see from the CPs pic there is a lot of detail around the wheel rim and the indented black area - that I have a lot of CPs in, which I think I need, but not sure if there is a simpler and better way to do it - I would love any advice on that and anything else. Also, the tire I just put a torus on there as a filler - I'll do the tires last and try to get suggestions on the best way to do it. Thanks for any …

This is my A:M rendition of Mount Sinawava in Zion National Park in Southern Utah. I am using this model to try to get rays of sunlight through clouds. This scene is entirely lit with a single klieg light high above the mountain peak with Z-buffered shadows. I also rendered with multipass with 4 passes and soften on.

I rendered this scene with v13 r5 with pixel displacement and global ambience. I discovered that Global ambience is key to having realistic looking clouds. I don't know how I lived without pixel displacement - I used it on the canyon walls and clouds. I know v13 is beta but I must say that decals with pixel displacement sometimes cause patches to tear. You can't see it in this picture because the trees cover it up but there is a tear in the canyon wall just below the rocks. The higher the displacement value, the greater the tear. Anyone know how to fix this? These are my global ambience settings: Global ambience type = color ambience color = white …

I rendered this with multipass (4 passes) with occlusion sampling at 20%. It took 35 minutes to render. I am so grateful to the Hash team for AO. Even teh vegetation looks great. There is room for improvement and I welcome it. Now one thing, I wasn't able to render with pixel displacement and ambient occlusion - the computer memory gets completely consumed and I reported this. What you see here is bump in V13beta but bump in beta looks way better than v12 I think.

Well, I must apologize in advance for the trees in the foreground but the ones in the back are looking good thanks to HASH. If someone knows how to make the trees in the foreground look better please let me know. I built a tree in A:M, rendered it to a 320x240 TGA file with alpha channel, cropped it in GIMP, and then added the image to hair and slapped it on the mountain. HASH has more work to do though because fog on hair doesn't work in multipass, and I need multipass to get descent render times for animations. Plus, I think there is some other weird render problems in V12 but I am still amazed at what can be done.

Hello Been such a LONG time since I've had time to work in 3d and post here..but here I go again. I've put a hold on my bunny character (snowball, dont know if you remember her) and began this new character for a small client. Instead of my normal 2D work I've been asked to create a nice little mascot for a logo in 3d for possible animated introduction and stills. This is my progression so far after about 2 -3 hours work. I'd love to hear some critiques in terms of my spline placement or anything else... The character is to be a stylized mouse, slightly cartoonish, and realistic blend. I plan on adding fur to him later. Thanks

In the last week I've been finalizing the Sentinel's posture sitting in the saddle. He carries a rifle across his lap. As Beast rolls/waddles to the left, he compensates by leaning slightly to the right. The problem has been keeping his hands on the rifle while making sure it doesn't penetrate his legs or the computer screen in front of him. I got it smoothed out, but am I correct in thinking that in the Choreography you cannot move the pivot? It would have made life much easier.

Here's a rough render of a the first two scenes of a movie I'm creating for our booth at a trade show in Vegas next month. I've been working here as the one-man art department since January and we'll have a couple of big plasma screens showing this piece along with some demonstrations of game play. I've got a rough sound track for the first scene here but it's not included at the moment. I want to get the timing better. This piece is going MUCH smoother than a thing I was working on a few weeks ago. There was something buggy with that piece that I kind of figured out with the help of Noel at AM Reports, but ultimately we decided on a hand-animated approach inste…

Coming into the last of animating the fish. This one [the big guy who eats everything] needs to have his mouth VERY wide open at the last instant. I have three seperate actions that move him. In each, his mouth moves a little. But when I go into Skeletal Mode at the very last, and drag his jaw down, that seems to over-ride all mouth action in all the actions. [ Everything else, like Fins and Tail were OK.] Fortunately, I could do an un-do and not much harm was done. But for the future, does any adjustment in the Choreography/Skeletal trump any Action?

This is probably going to be too detailed for some but I'm trying to avoid the forgotten feature syndrome. I find that when I get comfortable with a new (to me) feature I tend to move on to the next thing with no documentation. When I want to re-use that feature sometime in the future (a month? a year?) I have to re-learn it all over again (I'm looking at you Stride Length). So this thread is mostly a tutorial for my future self. There's a zipped file at the end that some may find useful. In v19 Steffen added the ability to add a series of images to sprites so this seemed like an ideal time for my steam locomotive actually steam. The following image encapsulates every…

I wasn't sure if this belonged in "Work In Progress" or this section. Since I'm not actually physically working on anything in A:M at this point, I figured this was the better option. If I'm wrong and it belongs in the "Work In Progress" section, by all means kick it over there . So, after reading through the posts in that last thread, I decided that while I wait for my "juices" and inspiration to fully get flowing again in terms of learning in earnest with A:M, that I would start doing some planning for what will be my first full animation with it. I am by no means jumping straight into that project. I'm just doing all the early work that doesn't require any modelin…

Hi all. I have tried to visualize an Mp3-player design that I had in my head. This is yet another retro design attempt (I kind of like retro design). While I tried to make the player function as an traditional ear-plug player with an necklace, it is also given an little speaker so it can function as an small table player (not an powerful one though ). Hope you like it. btw, The DOF does give some artifacts on the earplug in the background (this is an 25 pass render with soft ON). Regards Stian [attachmentid=15204]

Needs mucho work - but I like the way it's progressing. Been playing around with creating a model with hair, and trying to get something that might have reasonable rendering times for animation - - so I've been keeping the density low (lower than I'd really like) - And hoo-Boy have I been struggling with the grooming (yikes what a spaghetti nest of string!), resorted to fakey lighting, shadows, 1 pass, etc... BUT this image at 640 x480 rendered in 37 secs! I could live with that...(I'm really really impatient) Will be working on cleaning up the face (too confusing - image wise) - fixing the bald spots... comments welcome

This is a photo of a prototype that I've been working on at my day job as Creative Director for SMP Display & Design group. It is a cast urethane sculpture of "Mr. JellyBelly", the mascot for Jelly Belly Candy Company, for the new international display. I had modeled Mr. JellyBelly in Animation:Master and exported several different poses of him as .3ds files to bring into my CAD program where the rest of the display was designed. When the final design was approved, I had this figure carved and molded for the prototypes. I airbrushed the finished figures before boxing them up to send to a tradeshow in Europe. Anyway, since I did use A:M in the design process,…

Inspired by the short animation by matricks (and follow up film by Xtaz) I made my first kamikaze run at animation. Learned a lot in the process , such as how difficult it is to create convincing motion as well as how obsessive/addictive this sort of activity can be. Fun Stuff!!! I don't have a website to post the quicktime but here are a few pics to give some account of my efforts: Pics2.zip
