Hello, I'm testing the 2001 rig of Keekat to see if it will animate well. The attached video is the first pass of keyframes. I blocked out the main poses every 5 to 15 frames at 30 fps. The poses are then locked down by setting keyframes for all active channels on that particular frame. I'll clean it up later, right now I want to be certain of the action itself, not the timing (which will be fixed later) Thus the tail only whips around once, instead of being really alive yet. Lip sync comes last and I plan to do that manually, especially since it's just noises and no words. Of course the sounds are straight off of the A:M CD. There was no cough so…

So I had to recently do an illustration of an old computer for dayjob's corporate newsletter. For looks' sake, after hunting around for reference pics, I went with a Commodore PET (but with a CBM's keyboard--I wanted the Selectric-type keys). Modeling time was around 8ish hours (even though I might never use the model again, just in case, and for learning purposes, I modeled all the recesses for the holes in which the keys and tape drive are placed--I stopped short of modeling the back, however). This is what I came up with: Next, I played with various camera angles and rotations until I found the angle I was looking for. Since this was going to end up as a…

This is the basic room with 9,000 patch. I made the cornice and I was pretty deep into it and selected almost all of them and accidently press delete when I was aiming for the forward slash and deleted the whole thing, then I prayed and waited for the system to catch up and then press undo and it all came back. Quickly I save the file, and thank my lucky stars. Close call! Turn the cornice into a bump map. I am thinking of doing the same for the ceiling with a tin impression, and a center piece for the art deco chandelier. I am doing a new render in stereo and I'll post it in the stereo of the feb contest as this is the inside of the house that I modeled for the contest.

For the scifi contest most people re released their contest entry in stereo. I thought that was really cool so, now that the voting is over I feel it is ok for me to repost my entry in Stereo. I would love for other folks to do the same. oh and I would love comments and criticism.

I've had a problem with the attached model for quite some time. I've "copy/flip/attached" one side of the model several times with the same result. After making sure the middle spline is zeroed on the x-axis and cleaning up the mirrored side (completing 5-point patches, etc.) I've brought the model into an action window to flatten and paint the face. After flattening, I've manipulated the cp's on one side to get the desired results, but when I "copy/paste mirrored" to the other side, only a few of the other side's cp's are affected. I've actually completed decaling the model and rigged the face only to get the same type of "copy/paste mirrored" problems in poses. The…

I've seen a few Lego models made with A:M earlier, and since I played with Lego all the time as a kid I wanted to model a Lego model myself. Yet again I went to a toy store and bought a toy. I must say that I don't like all the new special bricks they make now, I miss the good old Lego. Anyway, I went for a truck (with a push_forward_engine), and after a few days here is the result: I've made every single brick (with bevels everywhere), even the bricks not visible, no cheating, cause I wanted to test the Newton plug-in on this one. Unfortunately I have had no luck with the plug-in yet, need to experiment some more. I've attached two renders, one standard AO with a li…

Is there no forum for finished works anymore? Does everything just go to A:M Stills and A:M Films now? If so, where would be the best place to post that something is finished so that folks will check it out? Here? Or are people just posting finished works in the WIP forum now? Richard

Hi This is a preview render of something i'm working on. This was modelled and rendered in AM 10.5R I wanted to put the footage on top of a terragen generated animated background but there is no way of tranferring cemara data anymore. So it's on hold for now. Any ideas on how to do this would be much appreciated. Animation preview render Also here's a still I've created using a photographic background, I want this level of realism in animation as well. Any feedback and tip (especially regarding combining terragen footage) are welcome Cheers, Geoff

Ok, I seem to have munged up the cp's by the base of the arm/ armpit a bit, but other than that things look ok. I'm pretty happy with the way that I managed to get the hand attached. I think it turned out best. All I have left to attach is the foot and the head, and now that I think I have the hang of things I may change the head slightly. [attachmentid=18354]

Heres the model zipped - instead of posting vague pics of splines. [And I owe you an appology "Mage" because it seemed like you were gripe-ing, (below reply), when it turns out you werent.] h2.zip Well, I was trying to spline off a picture of the Hunter Model. Obviously its gunna take alot more work and understanding. Not much to work with other than a side view as a reference. The Hunter model has such a minimal amout of splines, yet its cleverly done using bias tweaks. And plus theres only a couple hooks, which are hard to figure where they are splined off of? I tried to take snapshots off the Hunter videos of the wireframes, but the quality only gives minimal h…

I've attached an embedded project with an accordion-type creature that I've modeled and rigged myself. I admit it's probably not the best modeling or rigging job, but, hey, this is work in progress, right? Anyway, I have taken care to make sure my middle spline was at "0" on the x-axis before copy/flip/attach, and I've flipped right-side bones to left-side using a bone at "0" on the x-axis, but while in an action, selecting a keyframe on one side, copying and pasting mirrored keyframe does nothing. I'm sure there is something I've done wrong, but for the life of me, can't figure it out. Please look at the attached .prj and hopefully you can enlighten me. Than…

Here's a cupid :wub:I did for a V-day card for my wife. I didn't have time to animate him. He has only a skeleton and no animation rig right now. I pirated most of his mesh from my faun character, and pulled his feet off a critter on the AM cd. Lingthing is Ambient occlusion and one spotlight at about 250% from behind for the rim lighting. Comments or crits welcome, but I probably won't do any more with him now that VDay is past. matt www.animattic.us

Hi All - I have nearly completed modeling the lamp I will use to continue ABC training. If I can complete this model and successfully rig this sucker, I'll post the model up for all to use. I have two questions which are stopping me from completing this model: 1) The lamp shade itself. I lathed the shade and then I added points to create the slotted cutouts (see images LuxoLampShade-Render and LuxoLampShade-Closeup for examples). When I added the points, the top-middle section of the lampshade is no longer smooth. What I'm wondering is, how would you recommend I create the slots in the lampshade to keep it nice and smooth? 2) For the lamp's spri…

Hey guys. This model is very reminiscent of Thom and the ball-with-legs model used in so many boot camps in A:M. I know he's not much, but even the smallest step is good if it's in the right direction. Please feel free to critique in any way. I have attached one of him in standard pose, and one in a more actiony pose, and one of the purely mechanical bone rig (no CP weights, fan bones, or smartskins.) I am contemplating replacing it with the 2001 rig, for the simple reason of the hips null target. Thanks for reading! Peace. J Man bones.bmp pose.bmp skin.bmp

This is my "neww" character, I've seen other peoples original characters and i thought i should make my own. it took me a while to come up with him, but basically i just started think things up. things like "arms? how about 4...no that wont work...just 2...nah forget the arms." then things like "if hes not gonna talk why give him a mouth?". i drew him and gave have him i hole in his head then i figured hey, hes a key chain. then i modeled him the next day. Once I'm done smart skinning him I'll be make a scene with him, I'm sure your all like it. From- Dark Skull Productions including John Hubickey and Rich Jackson: Greetings all, An episodic space opera/ action adventure movie will be coming soon, called TekNu. The project should end up being around 20 episodes. So far, there is a web site with WIP videos, the story and episode descriptions, also the site includes details about the characters that will be seen. The web site is still under construction so some areas are not complete. We should be in a more complete state after the holidays. Late in January, work will continue and we might have the first episode by the end of the month. Here is the URL for the web site: DarkSkullProductions.com …

I'm still working on my Camilla model, the modelling is all but done. Except the teeth, I've started adding constraints and smartskinning for the female character. But on the start-up of the program, some of the joints are not in the start-up pose. I can tweak them back to Zero, and then save it. But on restarting the program, they are back to their incorrect positions. This doesn't happen on all the joints, just some of them. Anybody got any ideas, why the start position isn't saving with the project... Nasty looking ankle... on every start-up... Tweaked back to correct position, setting the rotation of the ankle back to zero... I'm buildin…

I thought about what I could do as a first project, and thought it would be good to make a movie of Jabberwocky - not too long, and I've always been a fan. Then as I went through TaoA:M I thought, maybe just a verse. As I finished TaoA:M, I thought, just a couple of words. So - "BEWARE THE JABBERWOCK!" He's supposed to be from Tenniel's Jabberwock illustration, and, yes, those are socks: He's only got a basic modified 2001 rig, but as he doesn't appear much in the poem, he doesn't need any more. My next move is to try and bake a Darktree onto his skin and change it in 3d Painter.

After getting hit by a truck, the chiropractor been really great and I am getting my hands back full time. last week I had 2 more fingers to go, and today feels pretty good. Still have headaches but not unbearable. I am going to be alright. Enough about me! this model nearing 30,000 patches, and I grab the plants from the data CD, and the garabge can as well. Unleash the criticism please. This house has posable garage door and blinds. Furnish dining room and working on master bathroom.

This is the model of the laptop I've tweaked and I'm working on animating a tutorial about pixels. This is a plain rectangular shape colored flat gray, with one light on it. As you can see, I've got a pretty severe banding problem. Compounding this is 1) I wasn't having this problem yesterday, and 2) It seems to be getting worse in the course of the day. Earlier today, my renders would start with the banding, then it would smooth out by the end of 16 passes. Now, even with 25 passes it's still somewhat visible. Any suggestions are welcome. Gerry

Hello, I'm trying to create water using the very useful tutorial at The Babbage Patch. I encounter a problem, however, when I try to apply the displacement material onto a simple square. The material is set up correctly, but when I apply it to the object, it comes out as a blank white sheet. Here's a screenshot-- I've followed all the instructions very carefully. The only problem I have in mind is a difference in software; the author created his tutorial with A:M 2001, and I'm using A:M 2005. On the other hand, does anyone have a different way of creating an ocean? I'd ultimately like to create a wake from a ship as well, but I have to get by this …

The SSS thread in the main forum raised the classic Jade Dragon SSS benchmark and I needed to take an evening away from rigging and animating, so here it is. I really like this new feature . It's easy to use, relatively quick to render and allround pretty damn impressive. Eventually, I'm thinking I'll add the classic display case surrounds and see how far I can push it as the SSS feature evolves
