Here's a test for a concept that didn't make its way into a BUS STOP segment. This was inspired by one of JohnL3D's experiments. UP_0000.mov mp4 version: UP_0000.mp4 It's all cloth.

Andreas Deja recently returned from vacation and posted a pretty cool set of animated crowd sequences by Milt Kahl. These were cut from Disney's 'The Rescuers' but luckily are still available to us. In only seven seconds Milt conveys so much material I simply had to study them. Amazing stuff. But... I also wanted to dig deeper into some areas of A:M as well... 2D analysis tools/rotoscoping being two of those things... and so this oddity is the result. This analysis consisted mostly of quickly placed five point patches (the circles) and a few four pointers (picture frames, nose and bench) with the whole sequence re-lit in post via the Merge and Mix Post Effects in…

Hi! I need to create a sphere whose surface moves (or appears to move) something like boiling water. Looking at animated materials--color-wise it will be black with purple specular so the material will just be 'bump' (I think 'displacement' would be too much render time). I could probably find an animated clip but decaling a sphere and getting it even would be hard no matter how you work it (unfolding sphere, spherical mapping and placement, etc). Any ideas, let me know! Thanks, Rusty

Gonna use this as a dual thread of sorts. First of all I'm modeling that constitution refit that I had troubles with in the prop import thread. Second of all, I'm doing it in V17 and seeing how it runs. So first up, some pics and a quick benchmark! So here it is in V16 AO: 30% Global Ambience: 80% Occlusion: 95% Multi-Pass 16x 720p Render Time: 7:37 V17 Beta 5: AO: 30% Global Ambience: 80% Occlusion: 95% Multi-Pass 16x 720p Render Time: 6:09 Now you may see it there, there's noise over the saucer in the V17 one and it's the color of the background. This is apparent in both quick render and render to file and more apparent i…

Hello - attached is a short dance animation test I've done in A:M for a music video to my song "Ol' Scratch". I know, I know . . . there are various aspects of the rigging and animation process which are, to be generous, flawed . . . but the spirit is there! In short, I really love this software and the creative and helpful people here on these forums. I am in awe of how intelligent, insightful, and quick to help all of you are - thank you! To rig my biped models I feel compelled to thank David Rogers for this brief tut: http://am-guide.com/SetUp/ My models still give me trouble in the "knee, elbow, and hip" joints, some of which could be allevi…

Ok, maybe this thread will take on a life of its own (I hope). I'll start off with a lighting tip I've learned that saves COUNTLESS hours and increases the accuracy of my lighting solutions. NOTE: I can't remember from where i learned htis, but it's certainly NOT an original idea. However, I've rarely ever have seen anyone mention it in relationship to AM, and hardly anyone explains this when teaching others to light an image Ever wanted a sort of "real time" method to investigate your light levels while looking at a FINISHED render? Got a tough problem in adjusting the level of 6 lights to that precise level? PROBLEM SOLVED: Render out a still using each …

It's been awhile since I posted here as I've been busy moving from NY to North Carolina, and looking for work. I may have a shot at a job designing an employees' instructional website for a home improvement chain, so I did this animation of a deck assembling itself as a portfolio piece to impress them into hiring me. My 3D animation page I used toon line rendering for the first time and it worked out really well! It was perfect for the appearance I wanted. I like to post both .avi and .mov versions for my website. The original render was about 11 megs. I was astonished to see that the .mov version compressed to 680k with almost no loss of quality, however I…

A while back I made this post: http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2189&hl= Well, I've updated my model a bit, and just thought I'd show it off a bit. I actually made these updates/improvements a while back, but have just now decided to show it off. The texturing for the body is still incomplete (think of the texturing just as an example of what the texturing could be). I also cut down the splineage in the head and around the body. The patch count of the model from the previous post (above) was about 1074 (I think), and the new patch count is 974. It may not seem like much of a difference, as while I did lower the patch count in some areas (ie, i…

Hi, Thought it was about time to post something instead of simply reading everyone else's posts! I've been working on this 'guy' for the last couple of months, in between work, kids and all that... I've finally finished the basic model and now need to start tweeking / texturing / rigging etc. I'm armed with many tutorials (thanks to ShaunF for his wonderful and inspirational website, and 3DArtz for the CogJoints tutorial), so this could take a long while. Not even really sure what I'm going to do with him other than practise some animation, although I don't think this guy will be the brightest of sparks - I think I'll have a lot of fun with his eyes. Any thoughts,…

Hello Fellow-Hashers! Well, this is the first time I posted anything really, so if I do something stupid don't tell me, just pretend like I know what I'm doing. Anyway, I've been working on this for the last few days. It's based on a Hildebrandt painting. I did some post work in photoshop but it's mostly A:M. You can tear it apart if you need to. Enjoy!

Hope you like it! I'm kinda new in this area and have never published work of my own but im anxious to show whatever i make to you people! I made this guy totally from scratch for the july image contest in Hash`s page and arranged all the textures in Photoshop. He's very shy and with no self-esteem, but it doesn`t matter 'cause he carries a big bad heavy laser gun! Send any opinions please, im just starting and i would appreciate any comments! Thanx! Eos

Hi Guys (and galls): Let me introduce you to the 1st grade Math teacher of the reefs. Done mostly in Hash, I gotta admit that there is a lot of Photoshop in here. However it is a "still", and sometimes it is faster to work on something directly in PS, than to model it and mold it into a pose. At least for me it is anyway. I hope you like it, and as usual critiques and comments welcomed. Hope to hear from all of you soon, Jose (aprentice)

Folks, I'm working on a side project using this practice chanter. I wanted to dress it up and add a bump map to the chrome collar. But the tga image doesn't seem to create the definition I wanted. The decal was applied with as a cylindrical decal, type bump. Any ideas on how to best set up a bump map to get this decal to show as etched in the chrome?

These are shots from the film actually, but with a very temporary proxy background. The flat color rendering technique behaves very well when animated. You do have to be carefull where the light is placed so that the character will pick up a turned edge without any obvious shading, though. http://www.anzovin.com/swash1.mov http://www.anzovin.com/swash2.mov --Raf

I just put these two clips together. I am trying to come up with a simple demonstration of Photoshop like image with an alpha channel and why people get those "fringies" and don't know or understand why. This is going to be my entry for the contest when it's done. I thought of this idea last night. Here it is so far. I have yet to: Texture It Add Some Barrels in the Foreground Work On the Lighting Some More Work On the Render (for example, the lines on the wires) Any critique would be appreciated, because the entries seem to be piling up lately. I'm gonna really try on this one.

Ok, let me get this straight. We are supposed to think in three dimensions, learn to model, apply hair, texture, decal, bone, rig, animate, operate a camera, set up lighting, learn the physics of photon mapping. Then every year a new version comes out with features we have to figure out all over again. It sounds like fun. Anyway here is my latest attempt at making a realistic face.

What I want to have is a background showing the noise eg. on a TV-screen. And hopefully not only black and white noise - but RGB-noise - Red, Green, Blue - noise. I have had a look on this: http://www.dotnet.se/aaver/Water/RainEffects/index.html made by the forum member aaver Perhaps that is the way to go? Making a noise-material. Someone having a noise-material to offer? Or some suggestions how to make " The-War-Of-The-Ants-Material"! I have had a try - rendering time is long so the rendering is short - rendering time also a problem - and it is not really the thing - but perhaps a start... Have a look at noise_media01.avi OK! There is also t…

This is a new character for me to learn and install the 3dArtz rig on. I took the rotos from an old 30's character "Tom" from "Tom and Jerry" (NOT the mouse and cat!) Anyway, I've really been struggling with the head. I redid some things based on Josh's suggestions but I have a couple of issues (aside from general tweaking needs). - Note the open 6-point patch. I'm at a loss how to finish this part of the face. It's the last hole in the face. - He looks like he has no chin! It's tricky getting a 2d into a 3d mode sometimes and he seems to be not translating super well (the head at least). Certainly part of this is my (lack of) skill. The hair is only I star…

Hi I ran out of time to get my entry in for the Sci-Fi/Fantasy contest. I'm still going to finish it so I thought I would post a detail from a different camera angle and ask for critiques. It's the only way I am going to get past the likes of Mr. Talbot and Mr. Freeman. I'll save the final view for some other time. I need to tweak the models and the rigging quite a bit more to get rid of some of that creasing and the lighting is currently producing some unsightly patches so I will have to play with that too. Anyway feel free to comment. Cheers
