-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hello again, just finished a figuring out the skeletol heirarchy for a character I am starting. Now my question is......... When I smart skin a joint. As I move the sliders up and down in time line. Am I setting permanet characteristics? i.e. I bend the hip 90 degrees. does that limit the flex of the joint until i reset it? My character's right leg "disapears" and "reapears" as I try to move the joint in choreagraphy window. Also is it important to set all Joints? dont know if I being clear enough. I am so close to being able to create my toon walking and acting in the world. You know how I feel! I can almost see my ideas in real life. Please help!!!!!

Hi, I've done my first animation model and I was animating him. I had some control points not animating very well and I've heard about smart skin that could solve my problem. I did a search in the help and followed the instuctions but, when I do "new smart skin", on a thight bone, in the relationship window, I dont see that bone, I only see the other ones (look at image) if I try to select a foot and move it(so it would move the thight bone as well), a msg box poops and says "circulatiry found: "balance left foor" shortcut to relationship1 /translate to ..|left foot target" what am I doing wrong? thanks tido

While making an original character speak, I have tried creating a separate pose for each phoneme, but find that in an action the frames between one mouth pose to the next are unmanageable. My solution so far has been to create poses for phrases, each phoneme pose set at, say, increments of 5% in a percentage pose. Is there a less tedious approach that allows you to use a set of phoneme poses and animate between them smoothly?

I'm having some difficulties with 5 points and turning them in a 5 point patch. Either i'm doing something wrong (most likely cause) or have a problem in my model that that I'm unable to spot. From what I know, to create a 5 point spline you need 5 splines connected to one another forming a closed loop. This is a portion of a hand, or where the fingers meet the hand. 3x 5-point patches between each finger on each side of the hand. A few of those 5 point patches are not working. I got 5 points selected, but the button remains grayed out. Normally, I select the 5 points by manually click on them one by one. If the button fails to light up, I hide ev…

Hello, Here in France I have a few days of vacation to accelerate my exploration of AM which I find brilliant, only the rather long calculation times bother me. The rest of the program is fine with me. In the tutorial : at 8:57 the user clicks on a bone and duplicates it with the control key. I can not reproduce this action !? I do not understand why ? Do you have another example please? I don't have any examples of how to use smartskins, do you have any? This is what animation master lacks. These are simple examples of simple situations. When I understand the basics of AM better, I will try to find time for many very simple examples. This can help…

I'm creating an animation of a person walking down some steps. I started with "Eddie" and got him walking down the steps ok, but in scaling his feet up to what I considered to be about the right size for the steps it seems that his legs are very short. So I want to scale his legs up (longer). That screws up the bones. In trying to fix the bones I reviewed the "Show some backbone" tut. The book has more detail than the video, but still leaves something to be desired. His lower legs seem to work, but his upper legs kinda crimp. This raises a broader question. Is there a better reference available that gives a lot of detail about how to set up bones, exactly…

Can't give too many specifics since I'm at work right now but I thought I'd get this out there... I was working on a scene last night (v16.0b 64 bit) and had a model with only one group, with the glow surface property set to on. If I do a screen render in the model window the model glows quite nicely. If I drop that model into a chor and render to an avi file, there is sadly no glowing. Anyone know of a quick workaround? What I'm working on doesn't need fancy dancy solutions,is a quick down and dirty bit for the tech conference I'm attending so I'm perfectly willing to lit it slide, but glowing things look nicer than non-glowing so if I could get it to work, I'd…

More improvement. Spline stuff. Crash and Burn. What the heck... Maybe it was one of those updates I recently installed!!! There was a previous thread on this, but I wasn't sure what version was discussed (I could have missed it). But is there a way during modeling, as I move a control point, to limit that movement (for example) ONLY to X? As I choose windows, it tends to allow movements in a plane, so I would be moving in X AND Y... But in many cases, I want to ONLY move a single vector at a time. Thanks much! John PS: The other post had mentioned using #'s 1-6 or so. I took that to mean using the various camera views, but this would still have the CP move in 2 coordinate systems (ie: X and Y, Y and Z, X and Z), yesno?

OK, I am stuck. I have spent the last 2 and a half years building models, sets, animating and assembling choreographies. I am going through our final renders, and have hit two huge problems that I cannot figure out how to correct. I called Hash's number and they told me that the problems were with the version I was using, and I needed to upgrade. I took them at their word, paid for v15 and I am getting the EXACT same issue. So I am hoping the collective knowlledge of this forum can help us. First, I have these random "blotches" appearing on a model. They are showing up what appears to be randomly in a rendered cho. they show up for just one frame, but if I …

I am setting up for a video tour of a house I have made for You Tube. And after taking two days to figuring out how to get the doors and windows to work at the right time throw an action. It maybe faster to just ask. I am using a path with a camera. 1. How do I speed up/down and stop the camera along the path so I can have the camera stop and look around. 2. How do I set up so the cameras movement as the actions that dictate the time of the video instead of the path. Since it is a pain to recalculate the time ever time I make some changes to the cameras tour of the house. 3. How do I set up an object on the path ahead of the camera so the camera will ai…

I even used a 'stock' action and still everything was fine. As I experimented with actions using a path I chose a new ground (the ground that is slightly hilly that comes with AM) and then applied the path and Rabbit (as well as other actors) to the path with a walk action, his feet are in the ground and NOT on the serface of the ground. I have tried constraining rabbit to the surface of the ground; I have tried constraining the path to the ground but I cannot get rabbit to follow the path A…

So I saw this program at the anime expo last week and I thought it was pretty cool so I decided to buy it. I came home, installed it, and proceeded to create a model.(that's where you're supposed to go right?) And in the 3 hours I spent trying to figure things out, all I could figure out is how to make an oval! I'm making a character walk, and it's not even a very zany walk, but there are certainly times when he's moving forward, and moments when he's recovering from hitting the ground. Problem is, the walk-cycler seems to take all frames as equal parts of the forward stride. This results in some moments that my character slides forward, and others when he seems to moon-walk. Is there a way to vary the forward-movement within a single walk cycle?

Why you would want to do it? The pros & cons of doing it. etc... Think this might be helpful for other users and the curious.

I'm wondering: when you are editing around in an animation and tweaking key frames, is there a way to "reset" a keyframe to the state it was in when you visit it and before you move off it? I'm aware of undo, but with subtle changes it seems it would be hard to tell when you get to the exact point you started, and maybe you would overshoot and undo something else you didn't want to. I suppose you could save project at each keyframe and reload it if necessary; seems cumbersome though. -SB

Bizarre stuff keeps happening as I try to learn how to make an action with my flour sack (chapter 4 AM A Complete Guide). I made an action with the flour sack "hopping" which looks fairly OK when I play it. However, somehow the keyframes are "lost" to the toolbar -- pressing next or previous keyframe does nothing. And the action defaults to keyframe "1:00" when I load it -- when I play it, I see the counter jump to 0:00 then play to 1:00 where it stops, as expected. But I can't jump to any of the keyframes Now, I think something changed, because when I built the action, I was jumping from keyframe to keyframe. But I took a side experiment to see what wou…
