DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Apologies for the butt shot. Anyone else run into this??? Cps wrinkle in objects when twisting/turning and whatever it is is truly happening to The CP and shows up when rendered. Only happens in action or Chor. As soon as you click on the Cp it straightens out but then goes right back to being twisted when you advance a frame. This seems to show up randomly.See Pic This is shutting down my 5 yr. project unless I can fix it. As always ANY help appreciated. These CPs are in their natural state - no bias tweaking at all.

Hi, I had the 2003 CD version and some plugins but unfortunately I didn't use it much. Now I started again with animation, so I bought the subscription to have more features (or less bugs). Currently I'm using (trying to learn) 15.0G because there was a bug with real time rendering in shaded mode with the 15.0H version, so I'm sorry if the following problems have been corrected: 1. If I try to customize the toolbars just by adding more toolbars to the window (Tools/Customize/Toolbars), when I press "OK" all changes disappear (my screen resolution is 1920x1200 if that helps). 2. While there is enough space on the existing toolbar line for more toolbars (~4…

Hi all, Anyone has the solution for this: When I make a (TOPview) rectangle (4 cp, peak, snap to grid) and extrude it, there are still 2 side's open. Well, I do know that adding points on the right way will close it, BUT... Using the primitives plugin from Steffen Gross, let's me create a cube, all closed on 8 cp...(!?) So here is my question: Is there a way I can apply a 'make five-point-patch'-manner to do this, thus a 'make four-point-patch'? Hope to hear your solution. Niels. ps. I don't think there is such a manner...(I do hope, I am wrong about this...) Maybe a reply from you, will make me request this feature, if it ain't the…

Just as I solved my video card problem with fresh drivers, and entered into [hopefully] A:M heaven...I start getting white spline lines showing through the decals. Sorry I didn't post this in the FAQ forum. For some reason, it wouldn't let me post there. Anyways, I'm really interested in this program, and before I buy it, I'm wondering about something: If I film my whole fan film, leaving places for CGI and such, will I be able to completely add in CGI with Animation Master once Im finished filming? For example, if I want my alien tripods to walk behind a forest, so the audience sees them through the trees, then can I: 1. Film the forest 2. Generate the CG tripod 3. Place the CG tripod animation moving behind the forest... so we can see bits of it through the trees on the other side of the forest Exam…

This is my first attempt at creating a character. So he is not so good yet. My splinemanship needs improving but I have no dead ends nor do I have more than 4 intersecting splines. I kinda like his look though. I started with the stock rabbit character and redid the body a bit. and completely made the head from scratch. I am welcoming all crits and advice. His body is fully rigged as the rabbit was, but I still need to rig his head, eyes, and mouth. I only posted this so that I could get advice and crits. So please hit me hard. This is a learning experience.

I simply dont truly now what these do. I have never seen a comparison with a control Ca someone create an illustration showing the difference in these settings? Not the difference from each other but the difference in values from within themselves. I cant find anything on either of these. If the comparison illustration could be in this fashion or something like this that would be great

Having issues creating the simcloth effect. I followed the instructions in the AM book, set up the force and turbulence. And yet when I clicked on simcloth simulate, nothing happens. I've looked for video's but there are usually non applicable. Or they are about what do do after creating all the stuff. Do you guys know a link that will show how to work in AM vrs 13 with Windows xp sp2? Meaning that when they go to a link that I should see the same link in my project as well Thank ya -Sean

Hi Everyone, I am trying to create my first model of a Winnie the Pooh Character. I imported the Rotoscope and began to draw the required ARC's to match 1/2 of the face. The problem is that when I create the Arc that I want, I also create an Arc I don't want. I'm not sure how to explain this, I think the picture will do the best job. Also, my plan for creating this character is as follows, does it make sense? 1. Import the Rotoscope (Front View) 2. Outline Half of the Face 3. Mirror the Half Face at the Center Line 4. Then do Left View, and import Rotoscope of Side View 5. Outline Side View 6. then I'm not sure what to do next. Thanks…

Hi, Hopefully someone can help me with this one. I've created a " Mountain " model that has a large number of decals to create it's surface appearance. Everything looks great in the modeling and choreography windows, but when it renders, there are areas that the decals are not visible and I'm getting a solid color. I've tried reapplying and adding new, but those areas still will not show the decals. I'm rendering at 1440 x 1080 and using one pass. I've tried multi passing, but get the same results. HELP ! Thank you.

Hi Folks, I am attempting to model a single strand of hair as if seen underneath a microscope in A:M 13.0. I found GREAT example of it done on 3D studio Max, but of course I can't simply import it. I can re-construct in it Hash very well UNTIL it comes to constructing the randomly frayed edges of the hair shaft (see attached). I tried modeling the multiple rings of ragged, jaggy CP placements by hand but it ended up being a tedious that yielded a result not even close to what I need. Is there a wizard/plug-in/technique that will allow me to create random control point position in the x-y-z plane in A:M? I've tried all of the wizards that ship with 13.0 with no su…

Mod note: I've split this off from a TAoA:M exercise thread as this might be useful to other people who need to find and install 32-bit A:M to use its Quicktime ability. 64-bit A:M doesn't have Quicktime, but 32-bit A:M does. Actually the best way to post work is to render it to a Quicktime file. If you are using 64-bit A:M you may also want to install the 32-bit version so you can load your PRJ and render (Quicktime isn't available yet in 64-bit A:M) You can have both A:Ms installed. copy the master0.lic file from the 64-bit A:M folder to the 32-bit A:M folder.

I have a butterfly model. It has an action. I want to create a flock of them. Well I found flocking, it appears in Chor in when you're in muscle mode and right click on a character/ under NEW/Flocking. I chose "birds." Got that far and played with settings, etc. Bounding circle appears around character (light falloff?) but the characters do not appear as a flock...only one character -- I expected to see 15 of them appear, but nothing... obviously I'm doing something wrong here. Any help out there? Thanks, Kem

I have a question about keyframes because I think I keep doing something wrong. I've completed exercise six "The door is stuck" and exercise seven "Can you say that",and I keep running across the same problem. When I put a keyframe in for a particular animation, say at frame 00:03:00, for some reason, the action wants to go back retroactively all the way to the beginning frame,00:00:00, to start it's motion; not at the point where I put the keyframe. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is there a bug in the software which requires a patch?

I'm still not clear on exporting OpenEXR from A:M for use with other vfx programs. Any explanations would be helpful. (As in how to do it properly, hehehe).I'm currently playing around with Fusion5.1 learning edition (free). Is there some kind of anti-alias setting or something to reduce the pixelated look of my finished renders in Quicktime? I didn't seem to have any issue with my previous 3D program's renders which meant it must have been a default in the other program. I've messed with the A:M render settings, but haven't found an answer. My outputs are set at 720x486 1 pass (4 pass didn't fix the problem). Any suggestions?

Greetings again everyone Well now I have been trying to do something I asked about a while back http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showt...mp;#entry297368 Any way I was looking at one of the archives about sprites and so on and saw some posts by Paul Forwood, Johnl3d, and heyvern that I think will work. I don't know how they did it but I LIKE IT!!! Now my question here is, is it possible to control sprites like the attached image? I have attached my sprite emitter to a path, that worked but they still seem to fly all over the place. I also have figured out the 'transparency' to make one fade and the other appear. I have played with the collision thing…

I'm working on a realistic model of my Acoustic guitar, I plan on putting a mahogany decal on the sides. The grain will be running lengthwise on the sides. I would think that I should "flatten" the sides to apply the decal. I did a search and tried to follow Rusty's wonderful tutorial, but I'm not doing a face, and I think I could get by with a simple overview of the process. Mainly, How do I flatten and once there how do I get it back to where it was? Thanks, Myron

Hello - I have purchased a custom built PC with an AMD 320+Ghz dual core processor with 2 gig of RAM and I'm still running into long rendering times. Rendering a 20 sec (491 frames) animation in "preview" mode at low res (320x240) is still taking over 2 hours. My choreography's ground and sky are just the default A:M backgrounds. I am running A:M 11.1 on my startup disc and rendering to a seperate internal hard drive. Surely this rendering time is abnormally long. Any suggestions? Thanks, Chris

I love A:M, but it seems to have a mind of its own...'squirrely' would not be too strong a term. Sometimes I get an image inside the yellow decal bounding box, sometimes not. Since that switch, the yellow boxes do not appear when items are to be sized. rotated or moved. Except in brief flashes. Then they disappear. It looks like when you weld control points Shift+Weld vs Weld (right click while holding the left mouse button on PC, or a ~ click on mac) the behaviors are different. It looks like Welding the ends of a spline together joins the spline, making one spline, while Shift+weld seems to attach them, but they don't form one smooth spline. Can someone point me to documentation that explains this better. The book also mentions something about spline direction, which I can't seem to find information about either. When I model, I never use the bias - I always fill out with splines. I am sure that I should be using the bias handles, but I always seem to get creases instead of the nice curves I am looking for. Do "real" modellers always use bias to get definition? What's the secret to stopping that little handle from slipping out of control all the time? Is the secret to create the mesh as far as possible and only then tweak?

I am trying to animate an item that has moving video on it within the animation. Plan 'A' is to have a television in the background. I have tried to use one of my previous animations as a decal. I'm trying to model something with a lot of square shapes in it and I'm having problems with patches forming where I don't want patches (places I need to see through). I realize in the short term I can hide the CP's that make those patches but that doesn't resolve the issue that I simply don't want those patches there. They are completely valid patches but I need them gone. I've tried transparancy of the group of CP's that make the patches but that doesn't even work in render lock (I assume it is done in final render) as the patches still remain despite being changed to transparent. Also, I'd rather not add additional CP's as this causes a domino effect requiri…
