Rob- I came across a puzzle that you might help with. I am trying to "grow" a molecule, segment by segment, almost like a time lapse thing, but I can't figure out how to control the slow growth of each segment using pose sliders. Maybe there is a smarter way...see you at noon. Tom Molecule.mdl

Hello, I had an idea about an animation I'd like to do which I'm trying (probably unsuccessfully, knowing me) to keep fairly simple. It involves basically one thing that I want to make sure is feasible before moving forward. If not, then I need a Plan B. I have a round hole in a flat surface. For part of the animation, I want the round hole to morph into a square hole, and then back to a round hole. Is that something that can be animated? Thanks

Having issues in later Versions to render previews. It asks for a null, than just creates an empty AVI in the Temp folder. Rendering a larger region with multipass in the choreography fails. Also the MDD export does not work. The MDD, OBJ and LWO files all have different point counts. Hooks create 2 points instead of merging to one, and with 4-point subdivision export 5 point patches will add 5 extra unmerged points. I tried it on different computers with Windows 7, but always the same issues. If someone had the same problem and a solution, I would love to hear about it. Thanks, Rolf

Hi everyone! Just re-purchased and can't find my serial keys, have clicked the right links, written 3 or 4 times, haven't heard a word in reply and for the first time in 20 years I can't get anyone on the phone (I'm told it's not in service). And I've got a job I need to do pronto. Is there a new tick or has my memory gone to hell? Didn't do anything weird and my computer's bug free. Where are you Randy and Steve? Anyone? Thanks much all! While rummaging through an old miscellaneous folder I found a plug-in from 2005 that, if I remember correctly, simultaneously changes the crossing bias at all cp's around a circular spline. It could be a nice time saver. I tried dropping it into my HXT folder but it didn't show up as a plug-in or wizard. Is there some way to "re-compile" it for v19p? Bottleneck.hxt

I have three models overlapping and I want to select only the CPs of one of them so I can scale it. So basically, how do I select all the CPs in a particular object? I know noob question, and I've searched the forum but it only gives me threads with hitting Cntrol+A to select all the CPs in the scene. Thanks

Wanted Cartoon "Nightwalk"! (a man came out at night to pee) Let's find the cartoon "Nightwalk". And place it in our gallery. I could not find on-demand "Nightwalk" in the http://amfilms.hash.com/ Perhaps it is left on the disk 98 AM??? Another thing I remember was a wonderful animated toilet - would also like to find it.

Hi Elm, As far as I understand it (please correct my if I am wrong Jason) there are two version available: - A:M Subscription for 1 year ($79.99) - Never expiring version ($299.00) Both are download-products today. (only manual + ExtraDVD can be selected to be shipped with the never expiring version). Both are software-dongled to one computer per license. > Infos on hash.com: A:M Versions See you *Fuchur* It isn't a dongle. Don't misled. The hash.com software details page should also be corrected. Hi old frineds, This is Rusty and since the return of NetRender I'm upgrading from V14c. Can anyone pointout any new features added since 14c or links to same or links to tuts on these. I kind of remember some kind of water function being added to 15 but that's about it. Thanks for any help! Rusty PS: I'm sure most of you have seen my new book (paperback due out by end of year) and the book trailer I created in AM V14c: http://www.amazon.com/The-Spiral-Slayers-E.../dp/B008STATCO/

hi, i couldnt find the SDK category anymore, so i post it here. can somebody from hash give me a file description of the baked particle files (*.par, *.pai)? i assume that *.par is storing the particle positions per frame and *.pai the particle index number, right? but this files are binary and i want to know how they are written. and is there the possibility to acess particle data via the sdk? my goal is to import other particle simulations from other applications (like realflow, xsi ICE, etc.) another thing is, that the user can not define where those baked particle files are stored. they alway be stored in the application install location in the libra…

Hello- I was playing around with hair and decided that because of the complexity of the final model, I would create the hair separately as another "object" and then copy, paste it onto the final model when the hair was groomed perfect. That seemed to work OK when the Hair was a "material" that was applied to model "patches" however, when I tried the same thing using hair on a SINGLE spline with a "Shag emitter" material applied it only copied the spline and NOT the hair "Shag emitter" with it. Has anyone else been able to copy, paste a SINGLE spline with a shag emitter applied, from one model window to another successfully? The benefits would seem to b…

Hi, This is very strange! On my notebook (btw, I don't have this problem on my desktop) if for example I hit 't' for turn, the icon comes 'on', the mouse cursor changes correctly but turn doesn't work. If I select the turn icon, it works. Same with other tools. Has anyone else encountered this? Any ideas on how I might fix this or what I might try or how I might trouble shoot this? Thanks! Rusty

Hi! Question 1: It use to be that to do a really clean uninstall of AM you had to search through the registry for "hash" and remove a couple of entries. It seems like Hash has to its credit added the removal of registry entries to its uninstall process. Besides "hash" is there anything else I should search for? Question 2: During the install there are now several options. One is whether or not to install SSE4. What is SSE4 and, if you know, the pros and cons of installing it? Question 3: Related to the above...what would be the pros and cons for installing the Timelog plug-in? Thanks for any information you can give me! Rusty

I'm doing some work with a student designing a perfume bottle. She wants the bottle to have a colour and transparency gradient so that its darker and less transparent at the top. I'm following Roberts suggestion regarding materials for my own animation were I need a heat transfer, but wondered if there might be a different way of doing it with the bottle ? Transparency and diffuse maps perhaps ? Any help gratefully received. regards simon

Of slight interest perhaps. I'm rendering exactly the same scene, with the same settings, at the same time, using V15 and V17 on my Imac. The V17 frames are going through at 2mins02 average and the V15 frames at 5mins 29. Quite a difference ! simon

Is there a standard way to get a sphere ? I ask because I was trying to have a go at the current animation challenge and was using the ball made for last weeks brief. Only to find that its not as spherical as I had thought. The original was a lathed spline which had been adjusted to get the correct curvature, or so I thought Is there a standard method for such a primitive shape? regards simon

I notice that when working on SmartSkins, in the PWS you can on a CP or Spline number and get the option to "Select Spline #" or "Select CP #". However nothing appears happen when choosing either. What should happen? However it would be immensely useful it those options did in fact highlight their counterparts in the actual SmartSkin window. This would make altering/tweaking just a few Cps in a SmartSkin much easier to do later on if one was not happy the first time round. Is this in fact what is supposed to happen? If so then I think it's broke

Why when you click on the button "Force KeyFrame" in AM v.17 animated object takes the initial values??? I can not turn off constraints of animated object (in AM v.17) without moving the object to the initial state. In attach example v16: At frame 40 - constraint is ON (Translate To & Orient Like) At frame 80 - constraint is OFF (Translate To & Orient Like) How it works in v17? Please describe the algorithm on/off constraints to animated objects. Project5_v16.prj

For the life of me I can't remember how to move a bone in real time, letting each frame be a keyframe. I feel like my memory is going to wrack and ruin. Could someone give me a nudge. I'd very much appreciate it. Thanks. Doug

Hi all Is there a setting somewhere in AM to keep all the drop down menus within the properties window open/down all the time. e.g. when selecting a bone and I want to get to the rotate z value I need to drop/click the 'transform' button then drop 'rotate' button to get to the' z' value. Then if I choose a different bone I need to follow the process again..... etc....etc Is there a way to keep all those values open all the time. Hope my question is clear. Thanks

Hello All- Just thought I would upgrade to the 64bit version of AM and try using version 17.0g. Overall the speeds are great however I discovered when I try to render avi movies I get an error message, "AVI file create stream error". Also discovered that there are no options to render QuickTime movies in this version. Does anyone know if there is a fix for the avi rendering or if QuickTime rendering is planned for the future? Many thanks! Tom

Just a question. Its another segment of the pc landscape that might be something to try. I know development resouces for AM are very very limited but just wondered. I run a linux box at home besides my windows ones and just thought it might be a way for more sales. I have no idea of the effort required but figure if Valve with its STEAM portal is pushing into Linux it might be a thought. Speaking of Steam ---- I still think AM on Steam would be a really good thing if you could figure out a yearly sub mechanism out with them. rich

Hi There, I created a relationship with some constraints. Opening up that container just a moment later leaves me with plenty of questionmarks on the containers and i dont know what these questionmarks are all about? What is wrong here? Then a suggestion: I find the AM Project Workspace very useful and totaly cool, however, what I would like to suggest is two things: First I would love to see the rows beeing colored in alternate colors. Something like bright grey line 1, a little darker grey line 2, bright grey again line 1 etc. The second thing, I would love if the different sections in the workspace could be seperated better. At the moment it i…

I wonder if there is a command in A:M that lets you insert a spline ring in a model? I mean a complete spline ring above or below a given existing ring. NOT point by point, NOT an extrusion...but kind of something inbetween: select a spline ring, then select this command I am looking for, and presto: a new spline ring is inserted. I have search both forum and tech ref in vaine...but maybee it exists as an undocumented shortcut?

I don't know about other folks but I've been using the heck out of the new Snap to Control Point feature. I was using it before to match up splines and CPs but today I used it in a Pose to assist with precision placement at 0%, 50% and 100%. My project here was to create a modular monster whose belly can match to 'small', 'medium' and 'large' sizes as well as (manually through the pose slider) other settings. If you'll pardon the cheap graphics from this POC... I'd say it worked rather well. I meant to render a wireframe to show the three target zones for the modular monster's waists. Edit: Mov replaced with shaded wireframe render. (the three ovals being…

I've added a rotoscope image onto a view and adjusted it how I thought I wanted it (along with 4 other views). After adjusting for sizing and aligning with the axes like I wanted, I went through and selected the "No Pick" for each in their Properties. However, I found later that one image is aligned on the wrong axis. How can I get access to the rotoscope image on that view that is misaligned since I've turned off picking it, I can't click on it. Hi, What I'm after is a still shot of matter spiraling into a black hole. 3D streaks of...lets say dust or clouds. Lets just consider a cube (instead of the entire spiral)...if only there was a material that would fill it with 3D clouds but, to my knowledge, materials don't work that way, they apply themselves to flat patches and can have bump or perhaps even displacement for depth. Like the above, what I'll probably do is just whack out the sides and ends of the cube so I have two patches and, instead of a material (and longer render times), I'll just apply a cookie cutter image of my cloud streaks and then apply a deformation map to give them a 3D look (from t…

Have set up a run cycle action for a sheep and need to animate it to a mark using the action, but then keyframe it after that point. I recall a tutorial somewhere about doing that but can't remember where. Could somebody kindly refresh my memory ? The setup at the moment is that, the sheep runs up to 00:04:09, The action stops. I would then like to key it jumping over a hurdle from 00:04:10, using the last frame of the action as the starting point for the keyframing. I am sure this is possible but, if keys are set after the end of the action, it seems to affect the section before. This may be caused by too many late nights and early morning, bu…

Can somebody help me with an explanation on how the settings for an animated layer inside a coreography works? My scene includes a model of a tv on which I have an animated layer made from 24 still frames. It is to be played in loop by say 8 fps and repeated say 10 times. Where do I set this? The settings "crop" and "range" in the "timing" dialogue are somewhat cryptic to me...is there something I have overlooked?

A friend has offered me his Macbook Pro when he upgrades in a few weeks time, it has Windows 7 on as a dual boot option.
