While working on the prototype for a game project I was starting up, I created some models of various props and such. I was working in Blender, and so they're all polygonal models. But that's fine. I've decided I'm going to recreate a couple in-particular in Blender. It's a good "1-to-1" comparison and, I think, will help me with learning how to handle splines better, etc. They're a small and medium sized market stand which were going to be used for a market place area of the starting town in my prototype. The medium stand isn't finished as of this screenshot, and actually needed some optimization to be really game ready (3661 faces for just a single, sta…

Hello Fellow A:Mers, and thank you for your time and assistance with my problem (beyond my own stupidity, of course). After recently upgrading to v15, one of my projects has lost all of its 'roundness'. Everything in the model now contains harsh edges, even spheres have become a lot of little straight lines from CP to CP. I did check to see if the Peak and Smooth controls would help, but alas, I cannot find an answer. I have opened some of the models that came with the program, like KeeKat, and he has not suffered any 'loss of roundness'(sorry I cannot describe this any better). BUT, when I do render my model, he returns to the nice smooth creature he was…

In the first clip called water.mov, you'll notice black speckles on the trees. I've narrowed this down to doing a final render with at least 4 passes and with "soften" on and of course having hair with targa files and a alpha channel. Most likely I could render this with A-buffer rendering without black speckles, but then the precedural bump on the water doesn't show. That would mean no water flow. The second clip has two segments. On the first segment, you'll see rippling in the water. That was done with an animated decal and setting the first and last frame in the choreography. Unfortunately, after saving the project and opening it back up again, the key fram…

Well, well, I have been rereading the walks section of the "Animator Survival Kit", and I wanted to make a cycle that no appear in the book, I wanted to "create" a cycle, from my imagination. Then I remembered the Insect Model and immediately come to my head the image of Hopper (the grasshopper of "A Bug's Life"). And I sit in front my computer to make a cycle of this kind, and the result is....................... Front View Perspective view P.D: Please select with the right button and "save target as..." Hey, Here is a preliminary clip (still rendering) of what should be a looping background. I would like to donate it to the community when it is finished. It is kind of like a primordial, other-worldly kind of view, you could composite things over it. I would post the zipped file with the frames on my site. Let me know what you think. FRIDAY: This was my contest entry in the Anzovin's modeling contest this summer, and it took 2nd place in the Centaur categorie. Today I was tinkering with TSM2 and thought 'hey- I'll rig that centaur model'...so this is the result of 2 hrs rigging, 1 hour animating and an afternoon D1 render. There are NO cogs, intermediary bones or smartskins yet. We havent seen too many 'alternative' models rigged with the new TSM2 so I thought I'd post it. MONDAY:RErendered over weekend, the reflections appeared after restarting A:M and reloading the project, I also turned on the motion blur (multi-pass) for this test. 176 views over the weekend! Thanks for the compliments! …

Merry Christmas, everyone! I took a shot at creating an animated Christmas card. Wish it'd occurred to me to do it sooner, but somehow I was able to finish it in time. I did have to cheat a bunch (which included using no multi-pass or shadows in rendering and a lot of tomfoolering in Flash and Photoshop.) Anyways, I thought I'd share it with you guys, too! Hi larry - loved your character so much as shown in this thread http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?s=&sh...ndpost&p=149036 (and I was coincidently working on animating a flame for myself) - so here is a test movie with project I decaled the yellow flame part with an animated sequence - used distortion box in an action to change shape over time, & I varied color over time, - one could also play with varying ambiance, transparency, roughness for sparks, etc - use a better flame sequence for the decals - etc, change glow parameters in chor. hope this helps some to get you going (if you haven't already) Fire.zip fire.mov

Way back in July, barely 2 months after getting animation master, I decided I would make the opening video for Animethon 12 in full 3D. By that time I had played around with the program enough to get a good start on one of my characters, Phin-Phin, whom you saw with her car in a previous thread here. And by that time I had created a Fuchicoma from the Ghost in the Shell manga and PSX game. Quite literally I was cutting my teeth on the program and using this excuse to create something really cool to help me learn how to animate with AM. I managed to create 2 pieces specifically for Animethon 12 that was to be shown August 5th, with one week to spare. T…

Here's the completed logo I started a few months ago. It uses a slightly modified directors chair that was donated and a modified version of Woot from the TWO movie. Thank you Martin for permission to use it. I changed the shape of Woot's head and completely changed the color of the textures so he didn't appear greenish. I know this is the WIP thread but I couldn't find the thread for finished projects. Oh and Robert, I hope the finished shot clears up the drowsy look of the monkey hehe. Here it is. FMP_LOGO.mov

Trying to see what users would be interested in regards to a simple animated material tut. I put this together to get sime ideas of simple things that can be done. I used the material combiner sine in this example in fact it is the same material with slightly different settings and colors on the handle and the globe of the wand. In the wand it is doing the displacement and in the globe the twirling colors. I did use a lens flare at the end. So if this is of interest let me know here. qt 47k mattest00.mov

this is the second piece with my animated self-portrait. Mostly it was a test to see how easily a second mo-cap session could be dropped on the puppet. My approach tries to do all adjustment on the puppet, rather than the mo-cap data. The goal is to just drop the action on the character and be 95% done. The reality was only about 85%, but that's not bad for a first shot. Here is a link to the piece on Youtube: As with the last piece ( ), I hope to post this on A:M films, but I'm waiting to hear back from HASH about that. Ben

I have been pretty quiet recently because I've been working hard on virtual me. I wanted to experiment with puppeting a realistic character, and I figured I was the best reference available. The model is not quite as elegantly splined as some of the other self portraits that have been posted recently, but my focus was on movement. So here's a first test at virtual me. There are still some tweaks to be made in both the motion and the model, but this is a promising start. Sorry it's so short, but I had to fit in the 2mb limit take20.mov

Okay I made a project wit two chors the first generates Thom doing two jump cycles as a tga sequence (used alpha buffer) Then for the second chor I import the sequence of tgas and use them as the sprite. I applied to model put in in chor and (not sure if necessary) choose frame at the end of each cycle to match what frame in sequence should be there ( action 1:01 so at 1:01 i chose sprite frame 1:01 at 2:02 chose 2:02)-again might not be necessary. Anyway then rendered the qt here [attachmentid=11396] project file with both chors instead of the sprite sequence [attachmentid=11397] I know its a bit rough but it hopefully will steer y…

I was messing about with my rigging a couple of weeks ago and ended up getting sidetracked with this thing. I'm posting this early test for a laugh. Rip it to shreds at will. I know about the fingers not actually looking like they are doing thier job. Looks more like shrimp legs. It has evolved a bit since this and has had a little adventure but needs more work before rendering. I have a few ideas where he would be quite handy

How does one animate the effect of fog rolling in from the camera's settings in the choreography. A:M seems to only want to give me fog from the render settings, which as far as I understand can't be animated. I would like to get the "before" and "after" effect as seen from these two images. Thanks for your help!

I've been trying to animate the color of a hair material that I'm using for pine needles. No image, just particle hair. But apparently you can't animate the color? I've been messing with this for awhile and then discovered that the settings I was changing in the pws weren't under the "actions" but were the settings for the instance. So I think I should change to an image that I can then animate like an animated decal. But does anyone know if particle hair color can change over time?

I haven't posted in a long while, ever since I returned to college to get my Masters (done) and Doctorate in Music Composition. Also I haven't animated in a couple years, but this summer I got the A:M subscription and decided to make a five-movement work for animation and electronic music. I thought I would post the YouTube links here so you all could check it out. I learned a lot I didn't know about A:M in the process, and actually had to rerender an entire movement after finding a better way to do something. Anyway, without further adieu, here they are: I "Purple": II "Industry": III "Red": IV "Interlude": V "Blue":

Well I first started out with AM back in '99 and dropped it for a new hobby (Astronomy) in 2002. Now I'm back and have just moved from v9.5 to v11 (wow - what a difference) and am working on a short of a very short story written by a collegue at work. Anyway, I am using Alan Desroches (Spelling??) models from his Archive CD's so I do not claim the modelling :-) The link provides access to a couple of tests - Hopping (it will be a hopscotch thing when completed) and a walk cycle and I would love some feedback (I am very much the novice so don't hold back - I need to learn) http://users.bigpond.com/higginsdj/my_3d.htm Cheers
