as I read through the newton physics and rebuild notes I had a thought. An hour and a couple of old models later I got this. Basically I took simple models and used the rebuild plugin to create panelled versions. I thought it was cool and potentially useful for high tech backgrounds, although it does waste a lot of patches. [attachmentid=14460]

Ok...so it's not gonna be the next Woody or Buzz...but hey, its my first A:M character and I'm kinda proud of him. Still loads of work to do (getting rid of that horrible beard and using A:M's hair system, sorting out those legs, teeth, tongue, bones...argghhh!!!!). LOTS of work!!! For any other newbies out there I highly recommend David Simmons eye tut (and I was <ahem> slightly inspired by how he did Bertrums belly!) Let me know what you think.

HEY! I don't know why I always have to make my floors reflective. There's a lot of effects in this test...V11hair...V11 dynamic constraints...V11 distortions within distortions...sprite material used as smoke...volumetric klieg lights... Anyways I used a 5X multipass render (at D1 res) and I think the klieg lights glitched-up the reflective floor. Other than take the reflectivity out of the floor, any suggestions? I'll post a full frame from the sequence in the next reply... Warning: Over emphasized female anatomy. takeoff.mov

Soap Opera

Hi all: I finally got around to compressing the final version of Soap Opera. For those who don't know, it's a five-minute slice of Mozart's Don Giovanni performed by the denizens of a bathroom. "You'll never look at Pert Plus the same way again!" This version premiered at the D.C. Shorts Festival in September 2005. (I think, technically, it was first shown at the Hash SIGGRAPH party, but I won't tell D.C. Shorts if you don't.) Its next appearance will be at the Cleveland Film Festival this March. I wrote and animated it, Jeff Lee produced the music, and we both modeled it. Special thanks to David Rogers for an exhaustive lighting critique (which I trie…

Here is my model, thanks to John Henderson for helping with the model (torsoe) and whoever did KeeKat (hands)! I need help with the shape of the eyes (the eyeball needs to fit into the eyesocket! The eyeball is just a circle with a decal on it. Hope this is clear enough! Thanks, Robert Fiermonte

Hi all, Thought I'd share my first public animation with a purpose! This is a short opener for a conference I'm helping with next week. LegoDude walks across the campus and enters the arts building (20 seconds; top frame is towards the end of that), then he enters the auditorium and walks down the aisle (a walk cycle down auditorium steps was fun!), climbs up onto the stage, then waves each arm to open each side of curtains (second image). After the curtains are open and the opening slide is onscreen behind him, LegoDude takes a bow (three different cameras capture this moment) -- last image. Thanks for the help of all those who worked with me on the walk cyc…

OK sorry to be a pest.... I read the help file on this, I followed the directions but there must be something I'm missing because while I am getting the mirroed part that I want, it is not attaching. I am working in front view, its mirroring along the y-axis properly, but does not attach. I am grouping the left half of the body, then right click, choose CFA, and I get the mirrored part but it doesn't attach. Any ideas what I am doing wrong? Do I have to move the pivot? thanks in advance Roger

Hi, This is an easy one I've forgotten and searches are coming up empty. My rotating asteroids seem to accelerate during the rotation. This has something to do with the interpolation or something like that... I just can't remember what it is or, where or how to change it. Thanks, Rusty

Hi all, I remember a while ago some people mentioned a simplified figure drawing book (for people like me who can't draw detailed figures yet). I visited the website once and can't remember it now. It shows how to draw "fancy" stick figures for storyboarding purposes. Does anyone remember it? I think you buy the book direct from somewhere in northern CA if that helps. Thanks

Thats the question i ask myself, because i want to do something using liquids, and i hope that i dont have to go along the old try'n'error road. Cheers Heiner There u go: What parameter will i have to crank if i want to have a contious flow of liquid and not only droplets? Or has that something to do with the general size used in the scene?

had a few free evenings lately and put together a living room mostly of models i´ve made some time ago, tried to fake a radiosity feel, so it would be suitable for animation... this render in 1024x768 took about 50 minutes (16pass) on my 2 year old mac book pro, a vga resolution with 9 passes takes about 15 minutes. a lot of time goes into computing the reflections in the window, for a still it would be no problem to fake it with a decal, but for animation? the lighting setup was a mixture of bulb and klieglights as described in yves tutorial (but only one bulb with only one ray casting shadows for faster rendering), but i mixed it also with heiners skylighter (thanks for…

Here's a rough render of a the first two scenes of a movie I'm creating for our booth at a trade show in Vegas next month. I've been working here as the one-man art department since January and we'll have a couple of big plasma screens showing this piece along with some demonstrations of game play. I've got a rough sound track for the first scene here but it's not included at the moment. I want to get the timing better. This piece is going MUCH smoother than a thing I was working on a few weeks ago. There was something buggy with that piece that I kind of figured out with the help of Noel at AM Reports, but ultimately we decided on a hand-animated approach inste…

I saw the signature from Terry (Maniac) has a dog-tag in it and looks a lot like one I made last year... wanted to show him my animation- HERE! Greetings, Looking for some feedback wrt things like hooks nd 5-pt patches. Some people don't seem to use 'em.. Me, I can't seem to spline my way around corners, so to speak. Please have a look and give me an idea if there are too many hooks or 5-pointers; I am going for reduced splineage. Feedback..? Thanks! http://www.nads-sc.uiowa.edu/~sallen/am/mdlHlp2/head2b.jpg

I was rather intrigued by the Loons, so I just had to make one....( the original illustration just didn't do it for me..) I did it with Photoshop. I didn't like the idea of the "warts", but I thought there should be some sort of scar from a puncture wound, so I went with patches, like an old tire, but after he was done I thought of crossed tape, so I put one on his belly. It doesn't say whether or not they wear clothes, so I didn't give him any. I figure with no genetalia or (There's just no delicate way to say it) buttcrack, he shouldn't really look naked, but I had to give him a belly button. Where else would you stick the airhose?

Here's a screen capture of the problem. I just can't seem to figure it out. As you can see the right bicep rotator is not orienting like the right bicep rotator target. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. I've tried it in versions 10.5, 11.0 and 11.1 and I get the same thing. Thanks.

I started out with the easiest thing I could think of.....a ball.... I then thought it would be cool to make an entire set of billiard balls....and viola. I think had the hankering to make a sword and did this. Does anyone have any pointers on how to make the blade look like real metal? I used the "metal" material, but it doesn't seem to work.

Here's the completed logo I started a few months ago. It uses a slightly modified directors chair that was donated and a modified version of Woot from the TWO movie. Thank you Martin for permission to use it. I changed the shape of Woot's head and completely changed the color of the textures so he didn't appear greenish. I know this is the WIP thread but I couldn't find the thread for finished projects. Oh and Robert, I hope the finished shot clears up the drowsy look of the monkey hehe. Here it is. FMP_LOGO.mov

Hi all In my webcomic I've been doing an annual christmas story. This time I gave the protagonist's a slightly different manner of getting to the North-pole as seen here: Anyway I rather liked this concept and thought the magic snow bus came dangerously stealing the show for a while. Therefore since I felt I could probably use it for other projects I decided to take a crack at it. Obviously this has a way to go. I was a little premature putting in the wheels on but I wanted to get the idea across for these images. On the top of my list for what to do next is to work out the mechanics of the wheels and figure out how to do the windows and shingles. Anyway …

Ok, so I was playing around with hair yesterday, and I messed up the order of my transparencies, which sparked an idea... Fiber optic hair! Simple, make most the hair transparent, and solid at the tip. Throw in some glow, and viola! I tried it, and my mouth dropped! (What I can use it for, I haven't got a heck of a clue. ) It's probably already been done, but I thought I had to share.

This is part of an idea for the DVD ball in out project but I'm wondering if its too weird I animated Shaggy running and saved it with an alpha channel made a flat plane and added hair using the Shaggy animation as the hair image moved the plane in the chor made ball model and roughly animated it as if the crowd of Shaggys were moving it along that needs tweaking But I'm wondering is this too weird of an idea to finish Have a few other ideas Has a deadline been set for entries? q1test.mov

Hello friends. I just finished one of my latest models. It is a "design" mobile phone I made just for fun. I had no idea of how it would en up like, but I don't think it ended up that bad. The challenge in this model is that every corner is beveled (perhaps to much in some places). Anyway, let me know what you think. Okay looking or ugly as sin? Regards Stian [attachmentid=10051]

These are not award winning items to showcase, but they are interesting examples of how Animation Master allows you to do some none traditional "character" animation: Bill's Experiments These originated with "The Mother of All Blobbies", my first experiment animating a character whose "limbs" were more like the pseudopods of an ameoba than arms and legs. This was done by manipulating CPs with the various tools of AM. I then created a "pseudopod" test model basically made of a tube with each spline ring along its length assigned a bone. The bones were then constrained to each other in a hierarchy so that I could stretch or squash the "tenticle" simply by manipulating a…
