Ok, so... Humans aren't my modeling forte. Actually, modelling isn't my forte period. But, I have a character, and I know his personality quite well, so the trick is getting him on screen. His name is Peanut Butter. Don't knock it, my little bro named him. He IS modelled after a real teddy bear we have (hence, the personality). This is my first real model, and he needs a bit of work still. (With school and TWO, I haven't had a lot of time to spend on him.) Take a look and tell me what you think. The biggest thing that I've had to fight with is hair. Too much hair, and it won't render (and takes forever to render). Too little, and it doesn't look right. …

I was inspire by Xtaz's image and desription of Image Based Lighting using HDR images. My results weren't as impressive, but i don't have the patience to wait 6 hours to see how it turns out. I do like how it worked, but I added 2 lights to give the object some shadows. I didn't get shadows from the IBL alone. I don't know if that comes with more passes. Maybe someone can fill me in. Here are the images I did get. I'm showing the fully lit image and ones with IBL only and Kleigs only for comparison. I plan on doing more testing to get IBL figured out better. Any info or comments appreciated.

OBJ.zip Correction:This only seems to work as stated, with "Poser" obj files. And after some fiddling, its actually more the same as with the 3ds/lwo problems - too much splinage to even mess with? I havent tried Exporting yet into LW or Poser. So Ill report back on export exploits? I did find some talk on the OBJ side of AM - http://www.hash.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=24581 Ok. Now this is just something simple that I stumbled across for anyone wanting to convert the Popular OBJ format to AM (mdl). The sole purpose for this is for anyone who doesnt already know (newbies), and wants to do some modding of pre-existing work done with this popular format based …

I actually modeled these about a month ago, but with getting involved in TWO, I really put thes aside to work on the film and other stuff. I still have to decal the shutle cockpit, but for the most part am pretty happy with how these came out. I would love to go back and remodel each piece with beveled edges and maybe someday I will, but for now here they are: ARC-170 Fighter Imperial Shuttle TIE Intercepter X-wing As usual crits and comments are welcome. They do seem like they are floating above the ground plane, but they are really sitting on it.

I thought about what I could do as a first project, and thought it would be good to make a movie of Jabberwocky - not too long, and I've always been a fan. Then as I went through TaoA:M I thought, maybe just a verse. As I finished TaoA:M, I thought, just a couple of words. So - "BEWARE THE JABBERWOCK!" He's supposed to be from Tenniel's Jabberwock illustration, and, yes, those are socks: He's only got a basic modified 2001 rig, but as he doesn't appear much in the poem, he doesn't need any more. My next move is to try and bake a Darktree onto his skin and change it in 3d Painter.

Hello all, who read this, who bothered to read this, and this, ... I was working on biology and was reading about 'self-sackers'(don't know how to spells) who will stay home with there mom to help raise the off-spring. So right now I'm working on the head, I'll try to put some shots below, but for my hair, only on the top does it show, the rest of the hair is going down, I've provided the .prj file for those to look at and help not to use(yes, that's disclamer). I'm hoping to make this a movie some time, currently saving up for the a:m upgrade and a dual processer(stil dnt knw hw 2 spl). Thanks, to those who post, and post, and post, ... Mohammad sc…

We are in the process of gathering our sources to create a portfolio. Our company doesn't specialize in 3D stuff. However, we use A:M quite often in our pipeline of work. We hope to have the process finished in a month. I thought I'd share some of those clips. Here's one, more to come, and eventually the final edit. CREA_MEDIUM.mov

Hello, I'm trying to create water using the very useful tutorial at The Babbage Patch. I encounter a problem, however, when I try to apply the displacement material onto a simple square. The material is set up correctly, but when I apply it to the object, it comes out as a blank white sheet. Here's a screenshot-- I've followed all the instructions very carefully. The only problem I have in mind is a difference in software; the author created his tutorial with A:M 2001, and I'm using A:M 2005. On the other hand, does anyone have a different way of creating an ocean? I'd ultimately like to create a wake from a ship as well, but I have to get by this …

I am starting a new project. I have modeled an easel and wanted to place a light at the top. I have model a glass canopy on the light and have placed a light / bulb in the canopy. I have a couple of questions. I want the canopy to glow from the light / bulb. How do I do this? I want the bulb to mimic a real bulb and shine downward as a result of the canopy. Can you help me on this? Here is a render of the start of lighting the scene. thanks Steve

Hi. I work for an A-V event production company that does lighting and sound for concerts. I wanted to see how it would work doing lighting previz in A:M, and try out my own ideas for shows. I tried to incorperate a few basic lighting styles, with plans to add more once I had a system worked out. I found that it is a lot of work and I need to work on setting up a good system for general light control. To control the lights I use a combination of poses, actions, and cho actions. I would preffer to have a library of premade actions, but that didn't always work. Anyways, here are some stills and a short animation of the work so far. C+C welcome. ,, The video …

Hi, I'm in the middle of an animation project for a friend. This is an intro movie for his ministry. The camera flies past all the names of the countries he is ministrering in then into a room with some sort of logo. I have the walls as white as I'm going for avery clean modern look. This is my first go at this sort of thing and I was wanting to see if there was any ideas out there for lighting a white room like this one. So far I've got the names walls more or less where I want them. I started adding some lights but couldn't really get a good realistic feel to the image. I've attached the project file. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks. -B…

This is my "neww" character, I've seen other peoples original characters and i thought i should make my own. it took me a while to come up with him, but basically i just started think things up. things like "arms? how about 4...no that wont work...just 2...nah forget the arms." then things like "if hes not gonna talk why give him a mouth?". i drew him and gave have him i hole in his head then i figured hey, hes a key chain. then i modeled him the next day. Once I'm done smart skinning him I'll be make a scene with him, I'm sure your all like it. I've also been having fun with his expressions, since he has no mouth i have to work with only the eyes. i have a wh…

Hi fellow hashers, I have included a very low quality render ( 2 passes ) of the new hash vac. The animation was done entirely with the newton plugin by using various fans of positive and negative magnitude ( suck and blow ) to move the caveman through the vac. I have attached a green light to the caveman model so you can follow his path through the vac. Like I said low budget render but hope you enjoy and a big...huge thankyou to Steffen Gross. Look out Hoover , Hash is king! and in the vortex house there is another low quality scud render of the vortex force and newton - its twister all over again! newton_vac.mov vortex_house.mov

Here is my victorian house. I never would have started this if I knew how much work all the little peices of trim would be. It is still very much a WIP, but of course C&C would be great. The bottom floor is mostly done, but the upper floor and tower are barely begun. I am using a tune render beacuse it shows more of the detail before I texture and color. oh and the colors are just placeholders

This is just the ground floor of a multi-story building, the design of which is loosely based on a local building (but it's not called the Brill Building). The sidewalk needs more dirt and clutter. And yes, there is a clone of the building across the street so there's something to reflect in the windows. Next step is the upper floors.

Hi I am trying to get back to animating again. I was messing around and did a few dance moves for my frogman today. Just a little thing but I haven't animated in a looooooong time. That will change though. I'm gonna get back to boot camp on Monday. Got some things to do before then. Then I will do work on TWO. Anyway, it feels good to move bones around again. This one is just for fun but feel free to rip at it. Edit: fixed feet through floor. frogman2.mov

I've decided to learn Actionscript over Christmas break this year, so I thought it would be fun to try some 3D stuff. This is what I have so far: - System to render out nodes, edges, and polygons - Basic control system (rotate, zoom, and move camera) - Java "converter" which takes a .mdl file and converts it to a custom formatted text file - Actionscript importer which imports the data from the text file and constructs a model from it I attached a picture of the model in AM, here's the same model in flash: https://mywebspace.wisc.edu/vandeweghe/web/engine.htm Current issues: - It runs pretty slowly. I've been wanting to model master chief for a while now, even though I dont have either of the games, and have finaly found the time to start. I used a free master chief model from turbo squid, ripped directly from the game, and imported it for refrence. Since 3ds's dont import verry well, it wasn't much help. So far I've finished the helmet only. Wireframes: With better lighting: Next i'm going to work on the body! -Dude

Since I have been off (from work... ) this week I been pushing some ideas I've been thinking about on my commute to & from work so here is another one. I used an expression to move a series of bones on a plane to make waves. The actual expression was applied to each bone with a simple copy and paste and a tweak. It needs adjustment since it is a bit fast but I wanted to try a render. So I grabbed a boat off the cd, a darktree material, for the water, added a null following a spline on the grid, to contrain the boat's position and rendered. Its only a single multipass to speed things up ( slow computer) and a litttle jaggy but here it is wavetest.mov …
