Here is someone jumping for joy and another lipsynched one commenting the jumping. But how to get the .mov-file to loop? Rendering to a .mov-file using Sorenson compression I can not find any loop settings in A:M ? You can do it in the Quicktime-player, but not that way... I want to set it to loop as default. So how to get a .mov-file to loop? jump01C2.mov

Hello, I was fascinated by a recent thread on the forums about collaboration. Animation has always been a team sport and I enjoy the challenges, camaraderie, and competition that comes with team collaboration. I know the folks at Hash are working on their "Oz" movie and I wish to take away anything or anyone from that experience. However, I feel more like creating a shorter piece. (I still need to sleep and chat with my wife once in a while.) So here's the pitch: I have an idea for a six minute (approx. time) short that is a spoof of zombie horror movies. However, instead of being zombies the "monsters" are snow men and women terrorizing a group of children…

Hi This is my latest project I have been working on. I made the entire model using the 3D model in the "Dawn of War" demo. I also used it for the decals (print screen). My only concerns are that: - the laser from the 3rd tank isn't 'fuzzy' enough - the sides on the tanks are to plane Any comments would be appreciated

Hey everyone. The Animation Contest guidelines specify that entries have to be 320x240 pixels, but, judging from the other entries, to quote Pirates of the Carribean, those are apparently more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules. I'll know better next time. In any case, because of how dark and high-contrast my 'Mood Shot' entry was, I thought I'd provide a link to a higher-res version, for anyone who might be interested. Mood Shot - 480x270, 3MB.

Hey guys, I spent about 30 minutes this after noon setting this animation up. I know you critique artists will find a zillion things wrong here:) And there are for sure, but over all this was a fun excersize! Hello all I'm using this project as an excuse both to get a lot of A:M practice in and get some extra credit in my English class. I'm not on any deadline, I just thought it would be fun to make this poster. It depicts Bilbo's Journey from start to finish, with focus on the generic elements of a Hero's Journey (call to adventure, helpers, etc.). I've been working on and off on it since school started. Here it is about halfway done. I still have to put in the Eagles and/or a bear, the goblins, some background stuff, maybe Gollum, pose the Dragon, and anything else you all think of. I have a few questions about what I have so far. You can download the entire project (10…

Hope the attachement uploads....... please forgive me if it doesn't as this is my first attempt on this forum. [attachmentid=11245] I am using Roger Reynolds surface settings to check the surface for problems. This was modelled in 8.5 and then have started tweaking with the 2004 version of v11. Once again, I am really sorry if I wasted your time and the attachement didn't load. Opinions and feedback would be appreciated.

Hey, it's been a while since I've posted somthing new. Since i saw that wonderful katana render, i was inspired again to make something cool with animation master. I decided to make my favorite gun. The desert Eagle .50 cal (most powerful handgun today [i belive]). Rendered with radiosity, its not quite done at 2600 patches. The bullets are modifed from the one that i made in the bullet thread in the material lab. Ben C&C wanted and welcome.... even if its harsh

Well, after loosing the last model, I took a few days away from the computer and started with a new idea. I just started with the head and will try to get the ear and hair tomorrow. I worked hard on getting the eyes in and with Colin Freeman's advise I actually got the thing in on the second try. This is the first model I have been able to shut the eyes properly. I have a lot of clean up. One thing I noticed and maybe why I get spline heavy is a spline one at a time. Some of the other models updated lately look wonderful with so few spline. How do they do that? Will up date as I go Steve

Here is a new revision of the mouth creature. http://home.alltel.net/collinsfamily04/walk.avi I like the skin on this one. Thanks a bunch to Will for the excellent tute on mapping! One point though, if you use the approach of using one image pasted "through" the body, (from one side) the bump map portion becomes inverted on opposite sides. Color is fine, it's just the bump map. Due to normal direction I suppose. I now understand how to use the UV editor, and it is a gas! Cory

Well, I figured that since my Yeti character was based on him and my goal with some of the shader work I've been doing (samples coming soon...) has been to get as close as possible to the monsters inc hair AND since I haven't done much modeling lately I decided to model Sully from Monsters Inc. He still needs some color and, most importantly, a whole heck of a lot of hair, and his hands and feet were taken from the Yeti and could use some work also but here's what I've got so far... Let me know what you think. Kevin p.s. has anyone else run into those weird black artifacts with ambient occlusion? If not I'll submit a report. sully.mov

I've started on a new model last night. Unfortunatly, I don't have internet access at home, just work so I don't have any images.......yet. My question regards hair (see Topic Title) I've avoided modeling hair forever, simply because I suck at it....of course if I had taken the time to try it and practice it I wouldn't suck at it. Anyway, I'm starting to play around with it and the question is should I use helmet hair...or wait until my copy of AM v12 or 13, which ever the latest is, comes in to use the new hair system (should only be a couple more days). I'll be monitoring this post all day so any feedback would be greatly appreciated. By the way, does anyone have any go…

ddustin and I are collaborating on a project, not so much working together, but helping each other out with tips and techiques, and thought we'd post a message here to get some feedback (suggestions , tips, and/or techniques) as how to proceed. The animation in question would be a short, not really a movie per sae, more of a commercial. The camera opens up onto a small building (very small, appears to be big enough only for a single person to stand inside). On one side of the building is a window with a conveyor belt running out from it, to the back of a delivery truck. packages would be sliding along the conveyor into the back of the truck. A character (…

Here's a comparison for Nancy, of the before and after images when I use the DreamyPhoto effect Photoshop plugin. It slightly zoom blurs a copy of the image, tints it (in this case a soft red) and adds it back on top at whatever opacity you decide. To me it takes away a lot of the hardness and rawness, while retaining the sharp edges of the original image and not blurring everything. This example is from a 1 pass preliminary render (without AA) so that's why the edges are pretty jagged. I can't find the final render without the DreamyPhoto effect. Grr... I'm sure all of this could be done by someone in A:M Composite. But I had already spent enough time on this i…

I dug out my Sgt. Tubbs character [the guy in my avatar pic.] and am trying to work with hair. After massaging it about [ in V.11, about six months agao] I discovered that even if I hid everything except the moustache, the hair applied itself to the whole model. Tonight, I copied the moustache into a new .mdl and applied the hair to it, thinking to bring Tubbs and it together in the choreography. The b/w pics are from the modeling window. The hairs are overly fine and I think I could do with fewer if I made them thicker. It's the choreography that has me boggled. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with what I see in the model window. I tried to do a screen r…

The modeling of a basic mech model, in a direct way, uses all the beginnigs that are used in an advanced mech model. You understanding how works the parts and splines, you will be apt to model any type of car... The tutorial will cover : - Modeling - Texturing - Lighting

I dug up an old friend of mine, the stupid robot I made a few years ago. I've been tinkering with SynthEyes the last couple of days. Basically I recorded a video of my desk with my mobile phone and imported it into SynthEyes, did the tracking and adjustments then exported it to A:M. I see there is some jittering on the tracking, but overall I'm satisfied. The animation is just an old and crappy action I made long time ago. Let me know what you think johnny6.mov Here is an small screen capture:

Well being a bit of a hack, having little imagination but a love of animating I decided to take some shortcuts and purchased Satyajits Aesops fable kit. So this thread will outlien what I have been able to achieve. I started today with the Crow and the Pitcher. I'm using a new 24" iMac Intel 2.4ghz Core Duo 2 with 3gb RAM and AM v14c for OSX 10.5.1, iMove '08 for the NLE. (iMove came free with the iMac) Took a bit of time to get the hang of the old TSM2 rig (couldn't find the constraint swithc for a while - boy that was really annoying) but got my act together and knocked out the first 3 storyboards worth of animation. Well everything except the anim…

I started over last month on a model that I started in June of last year. I quit working on it in July of 2007 but recently I wanted to create a small animation and decided he would be the star. So I started rigging the character with the poseable rig and it has taken me three tries to figure out the model itself was the problem. So I rebuilt the chest and shoulders and then worked on the head, reduced splines and now I am asking for critiques once again on the look. Steve

I've been busy with this. Roughly 24 hours modeling, 8 UV Mapping & Texturing, 12 rigging. Here's the result so far: No matter what I've tried, I haven't been able to get the front legs to look right. I think I'm going to have to make them a separate group with their own hair system, so that I can control the density separately. I've been trying to hold off on that, because I don't want to re-groom, but I guess I I'll have to. I built the rig myself, which wound up being easier than I thought. I couldn't use TSM because bears don't have the back legs of a quadruped, they have back legs like a biped. So, with some trial and error, I managed to co…

I am working on a semi- (to high) realistic (we will see how well she will turn out ) model of a girl. She was modeled from scratch and isn't textured yet (apart from the eyes). She needs some more poses for talking- and emotional stuff, but till now I am quite pleased with her. Before I will go on texturing her, I thought I may adress the porceilan-problem I run into. I tried using the porceilan-material, but I got a problem with hooks there. Anyone knows what I am doing wrong there? The final-rendering is without(!) porceilan which looks okay too, but I would like to use the material to make it even more smooth. Any thoughts? Thanks for your comme…

This is a little try at making an AO style render with just z-buffered kleig lights. I chose the "Biobot" character from the extras disk because he has lots of crevices and bumps to challenge the occlusion effect. AOBTurnTestH.mov The result isn't quite as satisfying as a real AO image but it takes only 5 seconds per frame to render. The quicktime compression is making the shadows on the ground look patchier than they really are. In the original render they're quite smooth.

I'm starting to do some experimentation into the dream sequence for my short film project (storyboard link in my signature). Before I start building I was wondering the best way to acheive certain looks. If you look at this video on YouTube which explains how spacetime curvature effects gravity, there are some parts that represent spacetime graphically as a grid or lines in a matrix. Here's a screen grab: If you want to see the whole clip that includes animation, here it is: I know that Animation Master has an option to render geometry as lines. I had a few questions about this. First of all, I tried a quick test to see if it would work. I selected…

Hello! As always it has been a while since I've posted anything here but I have been lurking! I have a new project now that I figured I should post a WIP of. First a little background: As my forum handle suggests, I am a photographer. I shoot a lot of digital but have in the past year gotten into analog photography. I now shoot my own B/W film and develop myself. The very popular and famous film, Kodachrome, was discontinued last year by Kodak. This film which is truly unique will never be made again. Also the one lab in the world that can still process it will stop processing at the end of this year. I managed to get a hold of a single roll of K…

Well, it has been a busy quarter, and it was spent mostly building a scale model - no, not a digital one, a real one - of a sort of military interplanetary outpost. In order to utilize the footage shot of the model, I built a digital landscape (the group responsible for the model landscape utterly failed at building it) in a nameless Other Software package that specializes in landscapes. However, just a pretty picture won't do, so I brought a robot model I built in yet another Other Software package into A:M, rigged it, re-textured it, and now it looks ten times better than the original ever did. The animating & rigging is going to be a bit of a challenge, since t…
