-Discuss what you are working on and let everyone know about magazine reviews and articles that relate to your projects.
DON'TS!
-Do Not be rude or disrespectful or mean to other forum members in any way. Personal attacks will be removed.
-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

Hi, Everyone: I don't know if this would be a question more for the rigging forum, but I thought others must have done this before. Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to rig a frog tongue. It needs to stretch really far and bend and twist like a rope. The character will be swung around from it. Thanks in advance for any help.

hello. i was wondering could anyone point to a tute which addresses how i can model or animate an actor who has to either put on or take off clothing? for example, if i were to do a Superman model and i wanted him to do his famous "rip open shirt to expose the "S" shield", how is this done? or how about if he was fighting a villain who had on a helmet and was taking it off? thanks.

I originally purchased A:M 2000 several years ago and it came with a thick technical reference manual. I understand that a year or two after that TAoA:M became the standard pack-in manual with A:M. This is the first year I've ordered the upgrade and am looking forward to the Tech Reference Manual, but would like the get a printed TAoA:M manual as well. Is that possible? Thanks, James

Hi to all from Italy. I hope someone can help me. I often model half a face and then I Copy/Flip/Attach. If the point of the central spline are not exactly in 0 (in X axis when I am in the front view) Copy/flip/attach sometimes doesn't work. So my question is: how can I have all the points of a selected splines at exactly 0 in x axis? I discovered that if all the points are in, for istance, 1cm and I select the spline and write 0 all the points move to 0. But if the points are not all in the same position in x axis (1 point at 1,01cm, 1 point at 1,04 etc...) it doesnt work. Another question: I need to export my models in polygons to work in other softwares. I…

Howdy from Tucson, As I'm creating lip poses to be used in lip sync animation, I find it difficult to hide certain control points. Perhaps, as I'm a newbie, is there an "Eye" icon feature to hide/unhide groups as you are editing? Right now, I have a "tongue" and "teeth" groups I'd like to hide while manipulating the lip without accidently hitting a tooth. Any suggestions? Thanks! ...doobie angorabell.wordpress.com

Hello- While going through the AM 15 "textures" folder I noticed an atx file called "PenciSketch.atx". It sounded intriguing so I created a new material in the Project Workspace and tried to locate the atx file to load and test. I was unable to locate the "pencisketch.atx" file even though other files in the same texture folder like InkPen.atx, Watercolour.atx and Xray.atx are available through the Toonnation plug-in... Does anyone know how to locate the "PenciSketch.atx" file for loading? Many thanks! Tom

I was working on a little short animation where a character throws a boomerang... and ran into some problems on making the boomerang spin. Basically I want to be able to position the boomerang in several different places (ex: I want the boomerang over here, at this angle) and then use the curves or some sort of pose to control the speed and direction with which the boomerang spins along its axis as it travels between these points. I was thinking of some sort of rig for the boomerang that allows me to make its position and orientation seperate from the spinning. I've tried several things with no success... I don't really know whats going on... but it seems that t…

I want a clutch of these motorcycles to run through a scene with their headlights [and red tail lights] on. So far, as I look through manuals, A:M can make a halo-type glow around the object, but I see nothing on how to simulate an object that is emitting light. I did a fair approximation by creating a cube, coloring it yellow-orange, installing a light inside it and setting the cube's Translucency to 50%. Is there a better way? [attachmentid=16039]

Hi, I'm working on rigging my first character, and I'm using the 2001 rig as a basis. However, my abstract character design requires the elbow joint to be a ball joint as opposed to one that is limited to only bend one way. Basically, I can rotate the bicep bone exactly as I want; in all directions -- but I need to be able to do the same with the forearm bone. I'm pretty sure this is a matter of changing some settings for the forearm bone in the PWS. Could someone please try to explain how I would go about making the required change? I am suspecting it might have something to do with euler limits... but please specifiy exactly where and what I need to change. Thank…

So I find myself having fun with particles. I really like the explosion that comes with A:M, and I need it for a project. My only problem is that I need it to be eg 10 times bigger. How do I do that? I've tried to scale the material itself but it didn't help. Any tips?

Hi, sorry my english. I have a plane and apply a decal image PNG with an alpha channel to it, like a coockie-cut (the image option is set to coockie-cut). Render runs fine, the plane is rendered without his alpha channel and ground cast shadows too with the "cast shadows" option on the light. But.. i want to see the plane with the decal WITHOUT IS ALPHA CHANNEL IN THE VIEW (in model and choreography). How can do it? Thanks in advance.

hi! just recently opened up A:M again and coninued working on a model. but i've got a problem: in the birds eye view, when i try to "turn" around the object, it just disappears out of my sight, because the center is probably way off there... so my extremely noob question: how can i center the center point? maybe while i'm at it another question: theres been a lot of talking going on in the german A:M forum as well as on other boards about A:M being discontinued. i'm still working on v14 but i wanted to upgrade, but i'm somewhat concerned about the future of my favourite animation package... thank you very much! cheers!

Hi! I am a long time user of A:M but sometimes even we have newbee-questions So: How do you set the pivot of a model to a new position? When I model a character and rig it and than I want to reset the pivot of the model (in the model-window) to a new position so that for example the feet of my character are at the 0 / 0 / 0 point. I could translate the geometry and after that the bones with a translate-comment on the highest hierachy-level, but I wounder if there is a way to just set the model-pivot with a number-input like "Set new pivot to 50 cm lower."? Thanks for your time and your answers *Fuchur*

Composite confoooses moi. I have 2 images - the depth buffer.png, and a color image.png I then want to combine these 2 images in A:M using the post effect fakeao, without always having to rerender, in order to try out the fakeao properties/settings. Is it possible to do this in ver16beta5 pc? using composite? some other way? Does composite only work on exr? I have read Holmes tutorial on Compositing Light Buffers - I believe I almost actually did the tut at some point in my life. I believe I got it to work. Somewhat. I could be lying. Or I was probably confused at that time as well. Here's what I have - how do I get the images into a compos…

I am trying to rotate my camera around a model. Per Rodney's suggestion in another topic I made a circular spline as a model to use for the camera path, then dropped it into my chor. However, when I tried to path constraint the camera to this circular spline, it wouldn't work. The eyedropper picker would not allow me to choose it and it does not appear in the dropdown target list. The only targets that do appear are two other paths I've already made (created as paths right in the chor). So I guess I'm missing a step: how do I get AM to use this model as my path?

I am ready to render a scene from my project and it will probably take several days. I thought I would use another computer in my house to do the render so I could keep working on other parts of the project. The two computers are connected by a wireless network. But what is the most efficient way to transfer the project to another computer to render? I tried consolidating the project onto the 2d computer, and all the relevant folders containing the project, images, models, etc. were created, but when I tried to open the project in the 2d computer, it still tried to find the images and models in exactly the same paths as they are stored on the 1st computer. Since cons…

Hi, all. I'm trying to rig up a simple contraption, where I just need to move one hinged lever, and it has a knock on effect moving all the other attached bits (see WMV file for what I'm doing). I've got it working, but I can't believe it needs to be as complicated as it is. Do I really need so many bones? The JPEG shows the bones and their constraints. I just move Bone1 and everything else works from that. Bone3 has a kinematic chain to Bone2. Bone6 has a kinematic chain to Bone5. Any critique of my method most welcome... action.wmv

Hey people. I need help with a project in V 10.5 I got an idea of trying to make an animation that looks like a child's drawing with stick figures and such, and I was wondering how you guys think I should do the surfaces. The idea for the project is that I was going to start it with a zoom in of a simple drawing on a fridge door. The premise of the movie is a stick figure action blockbuster with a ton of stick figure fight scenes, car chases, and the like. I got the idea from an old Mtv short called Stick Figure Theatre on the show Liquid Television. So when the picture starts to move it's all in 3D. Most of the models that I've made The problem is…
