DON'TS!

-Do Not post bug/crash reports to the list (send bug/crash reports to http://www.hash.com/reports.
-Do Not complain about forum content. Complaints or suggestions can be sent directly to hash@hash.com
-Do Not reprimand other forum members for violating forum rules, that's the moderators job, which (unless you are a moderator) you are not.
-No complaining or whining on the forum or distribution of misinformation.

-No posting of private email to the forum unless permission of the author is granted. (Private correspondence should remain private)

If you have questions as to whether it's appropriate, send it to: support@hash.com, We'll be happy to let you know whether it is, or is not appropriate.
User Led Forum Considerations
Firstly and foremostly, please remember this is Martin Hash's forum and that it is every A:M User's primary resource for information about A:M. In order to remain relevant we need everyone's continuing support and interest.
Secondly, understand there is a distinction between A:M (the program) and the A:M forum. There are some topics and issues that are outside the scope of this forum and most can be deduced by reading through the forum guidelines. These include such things as Hash Inc internal policies, business practices, trade secrets, and specific plans for the future not yet publicly released. Each of these would be fascinating topics of their own but are better reserved for private communications with a representative of Hash Inc.
Related to the second, is purchasing, customer service and other areas outside the purview of the common user who may have no interest in such things; subjects relating to money exchanging hands are beyond the scope of the A:M Forum and often can lead to conflicts of interest between users and/or Hash Inc. (If Hash Inc cuts you a deal on volume purchasing it's really no one else's business). Likewise, individual complaints about a product or service are best remedied by going direct with Hash Inc representatives empowered to make decisions. Please allow them them the time necessary to resolve your specific issue and consider the cost of customized solutions.
This last area is likely the source of much confusion because many see the A:M Forum as the official outlet for Hash Inc... and it is. But the forum is not designed for conducting business and private matters best resolved by going to Hash Inc directly. Similarly, bug reports are best resolved by entering them directly into the A:M Reporting system.
Many problems can be easily addressed at the user level just by asking fellow users in the forum. If someone at Hash Inc suggests the forum as a source, it is very likely a problem can be easily resolved. For tougher issues there is even more reason to take the issue directly to the source... you don't want the issue discussed... you want it resolved quickly.
Finally, remember that we want to pass this forum on to future moderators and generations of A:M Users in the absolute best condition possible. A:M is just that good a program and is worthy of our consideration.
Thanks for making the A:M Forum a great community.

I know it's been awhile. Bruce and Ken have been helping me with a little project I've got in the works and I've been a little busy as well. I drove across America and I now live in San Diego. I'm going to school at Platt College San Diego and I'm learning Graphic Design (for an A.A.S.) and either animation or video compositing (for a B.A. which will bring my college degree count to 4). I love Animation but the siren call of After Effects is pretty hard to resist. Fortunately I'll be taking at least some of both. After that I have to decide which one I want to specialize in. I've actually shown some of the stuff I've done in A:M to some of the 3D professors an…

I just felt the need to say thank you. All my life your program is exactly what I have been needing to let my creativity flow and bring my characters to life. I only wish I found it years ago. I cannot express enough how much this program has made me smile. I am a disabled Veteran and cannot work so I was searching for something to use my many free hours on. And wow did I find it! You have a loyal and dedicated customer in me and I will when I can buy every addon and cd possible! I look forward to anything you create and will definantly put it on my to buy list. Again just thought a THANK YOU was called for. Robert Thompson / The Spleen

I am Pieter, I live in Holland, 18-years-old,student, hope to study industrial designing after I've passed mu final exams this year and I love to be creative. I am completely new to Animation Master although I've got some 3d model experience. I used to model in 3d milkshape(low poly models) and anim8tor, some of you might know these programs. Nevertheless, I've got some programming experience and I made a few games myself.. Here's my question: I got a question regarding the purchasing of Animation Master. First off all, is there a…

Hi - I created a character and dropped him into a choreography scene - it added a large bone that is making it hard to work with because it is so large. Here is a pic Is there a way to hide this bone and why did it add the bone in the first place when I put him in the scene? Thanks - Eric

i'm not sure if this is 100% true, but i found that using an actual photo for a facemask on a character is better than painting one in photoshop or whatever. upon doing some research and looking at some high resolution 3d characters, it appears that they use high res photographs for texturing. i've tried going to stock photo websites to find images, but the results are not so good. does any body know where i can find or purchase high res images for 3d characters? -hisako

I set up the aa and the ar, but when typing in a dope sheet, "How are you", the "are" is translated using the Preston set instead. Can someone help me with this?

This may sound like a dumb question here, I'm new to Animation Master and I just modeled my character and added bones to it and all. But I have a question, when you highlight the bones which get on to the model of the character, what does that do? Is it almost like adding weights to the character before you do the smartskin? Thanks, J.W.

Ok! I'm definitely a newbie! I have a lighting project where I have multiple characters, each with at least one light focused on it. During Cho I am turning lights on and off during the music score. There are thirteen lights added beyond the basic key, background and rim. Apparently I have hit a limit and I can't figure out how to get around it. With several lights on at a keyframe I turn another on and it does not illuminate in the cho view. If I turn another light off at that keyframe my new light comes on. How can I fix this?

Hi there, So I've started A:M for the very first time.... not true but may as well be. In the first tutorial, the Kit e Kat is asked to be brought in. That's easy, but it floats in mid-air and I can't see where there may be a "drop to floor" type of command or function or something. Does one exist? Signed Newbie of the year. lol Cheers Clinton

Ok, this is driving me nuts. I've been working on this for a few days now: I'm making an introduction for a video my 4th graders are going to make. The animation is just an intro I'm doing, not the whole movie. I watched the video "constraints and compensate mode" prior to doing this: 1. I made the two models. The idea is the eraser model is going to carry in models I made of of our textbooks. 2. The Eraser model has the Hash 2001 rig, and it works...that is a whole another story. 3. I made the path, and constrained it to the model of the book. 4. I added the action the model, and it works fine Now as the model walks, the book moves rather odd. …

Search was futile. I know, I'm thinking in CAD instead of A:M (for shame)... But is there a way to put a "real" hole in a sphere or a (perpendicular to the length of the) cylinder? Probably not an easy thing. Of course, beveling such a hole in a CAD program would be no joy either. As an example, the wrist pin hole in a piston. I realise that A:M lets me simply stick the pin through the cylinder at right angles. But no beveling of the hole is possible except with a bump or displacement map. And that really doesn't leave me with a hole, just a rod through a sphere or a cylinder. Must learn to think A:M again. (Looks like, not is, nor does it…

I was thinking of making a holiday themed animation as a small project and figured I'd open the challenge up to other people learning A:M Here's the simple idea: A Gingerbread village. Here's the rules: Nobody who's got more than 2 years A:M experience. (We'll let them critique it after!) Needs to be done by Dec 24th Everything on theme Capable of being assembled into a project at the end (Same scale) I'll post a gingerbread tree in photo and model. Feel free to modify/ re-scale if you like, but mostly I'm posting it as a starting point. Some ideas: A house (or houses) Snow, Candy cane fences,…

Hi, at the intro video of Animation Master you have Homer Simpson and a T-rex being animated! I wonder if someone has this model? I didn't find at the extras CD that people mentioned in other posts. Also, Homer, the fat guy, is no longer avaiable at the FTP. I saw at other posts that it was in the Data folder of the FTP, which doesn't exist anymore. I really wanted to make some animation using the T-Rex. I found a free model, but couldn't import to A:M. I can import it as a prop but it is useless as it has no bones! Using the plugin import function, A:M begin importing but stops at 20%. I tried some other 3ds models and all hung at 20%. Is it a bug of A:M 2005 or the…

I was doing some digging through the shortcuts in AM, looking for the Hook CP. It appears that there isn't one that we can customize. I say this because I use a Magic Mouse and with the magic mouse, you can't left click and then right click simultaneously, so I was thinking, oh, if I can just change it's command so that I hold down a key and click, that would work. So if there is a way to do this that I missed (cause digging out my older mouse and connecting it for one click is a bit of a pain) please let me know. If not, perhaps it could be added to the development of AM to be able to customize the Hook CP command. Thanks

This is my first try at making a character and I'm making his head and was wondering if I'm going about this the right way. What I'm trying to do is build different sections of the face and then i was thinking of hooking it all together with just points and smoothing it out. So yeah, if someone could take a look at this and tell me if I'm going about this the right way I would greatly appreciate some pointers and input. Skier__s_Body.mdl

Hey there, something I've always wondered about... does anyone know how AM decides which patches should be shown when hooks are involved? For example: I'm adding some pants texture on these legs. You can see the patch with a hook is also making part of the skin decal show up. When I select the hook, it automatically brings that extra CP along with it. When I specifically click that CP and make it go away, the hook's patch ALSO goes away: However, on the other leg? Exactly the opposite. Here, you can see that the "skin" patch is hidden, but the "hook" patch shows up just fine. I'm planning on just decaling over the skin on the one side and then remov…

I am having trouble with hooks. I get them when I don't want them. Is this an option that can be turned off and on? Also, if I try to put a new CP and spline very close to an existing CP/spline, A:M makes the new spline an extension of the existing CP/spline instead of making a new one. Is there a setting that I can change to change this behavior? Thanks.

I keep seeing mention of stuff not being beveled or being beveled as if beveling were a good thing. I'm assuming that it is desired to have bevels in your models of things like buildings or boxes. I did a little searching but have not been able to find good instruction on the whys or hows. I remember seeing a tutorial somewhere that even talked about doing the bevel(s) first before the rest of the model.

I have a choreography where the Knight character is hanging from a wall, and he needs to swing his body up over the top. I've studied videos of "urban" climbers, who climb walls, buiding etc, and what they do is swing their legs so that they can hook one leg over the top of the wall. To do that the pivot point is centered at about the neck and shoulders. No matter what I've tried, I can't get the knight to swing properly. I have the hands constrained to the wall so that they don't move during the swing. I've tried swinging the model bone in an arc, and moving the feet and hips in an arc, both to no avail. Most of the time, the hands get really screwed up, and…
