I don't know about you guys, but I'm really struggling to repair normals when they appear like this on the screen. V 18 is what I'm in. ALSO....A great feature request would be to have an option to color the patches "red" or "blue" depending on what direction. Then have an option to "flip all red" or "Flip all blue" THAT WOULD BE GOLDEN

Been a while since I started modeling in AM again and when I shift click to create a surface the splines don't create a patch. Tricky part is the piece I am modeling will be 3d printed and internal faces gives my printers software fits. This particular part is for piece of scroll work that was on an antique mirror. My plans are to model the missing piece, print it out, make a mold then make the replacement patch. I thought in the past I was able to do this but its been a while.

I'm trying to refresh my memory. I know that if we select a channel we have the option (via Right Click) to 'Reduce' keyframes. This however isn't practical when there are a whole lot of channels to reduce. I will guess the best way to proceed might be to Bake Action and then increase the Tolerance setting. Is that correct or am I wondering off in the wrong direction?

Hi - I'm trying to get my trial version A:M v.18 up and running on my Macbook Pro OS 10.9.4. I followed all of the download instructions in the email I received from Hash accepting my request, renamed the downloaded license "master0.lic" per the instructions, and placed it into the folder next to the application, yet when I try to open A:M, I'm greeted with a dialog box requesting an Activation Key. I have been using A:M15j on an older Mac and want to try the newest version of A:M on new hardware before I decide to buy. Can someone please advise me how to address this issue. I've contacted tech support by email and tried by phone, both to no avail. Thank you.

After several months of frustrations with El Capitan, 10.11.6, I was obliged to upgrade to Mojave, 10.14.4, today. One of the reasons I had been reluctant to do so had been the question of compatibility with AM. Haven't tried it fully yet but, on opening it for the first time, a message from Apple flagged up saying it was not entirely compatible with Mojave and to contact the developer. The first thing noticed was that the drop down buttons in the PWS didn't seem to work. Could move the bones in an action but, not close down the drop down lists. Is there a patch available for V18 or a workaround? Thank you for any help. simon

I would like to test if it is possible to animate a model in Animation Master and then use the action file to control an animatronic version of the model in the real World. I wonder if there is any documentation about the contents of the Animation Master action files? It would be more efficient to read a specification instead of just guessing and testing... (The idea is to translate the pose values into commands to Control servos in an Arduino setup.)

When we are at Comic Con 2014 I'm going to set up a webcam or maybe 2 to send images to our site. I'm hoping that we have enough bandwidth for it. The more bandwidth we have faster the refresh will be. Have a bit more work to do The page maybe as simple as a timed refresh but I'm hoping to have time to set up a 'on file touch' refresh where the page just refreshes when a new image is sent. Right now it's set up to send 1280x720 images but if we have bandwidth issues(which happen a ton at shows this big) I will try dropping the image size so you can still get images. Anyone that will be there we can not wait to see you!

I was resplining an "A" that didn't come out of the FontWizard quite right and have created what should be a legal four-sided patch... four CPs, connected by splines and not all on the same spline... and yet it doesn't fill in. If I copy just those four CPs and paste them to the right they do fill in but not if they are part of the whole mesh. Anyone know what is wrong? (This is not a Hide Backfaces problem) Fixin A.mdl

Working in V17g with OSX 10.68 Got back to trying to finsh Ska Lake, spent the last two days correcting for the new model,it seemed to work ok and intended to go back today to start adjusting te detail poses and timing. Using the 2008 rig. `For some reason (?) the keys don't appear to set in the PWS when the bones are moved. It was working as normal yesterday but curious things today. This test model has several groups, each with a different color, and one "all" group, containing a gradient material, that overrides the color groups to make a gradient from black to white. GradTest01.prj Is there a way to key off the influence of the "all" group on a certain frame to let the native colors of the other groups show through?

I'm having to prepare something for a course starting in October and have encountered a curious problem in V17G. I set it up last night and left it rendering away. Saved it, "Saved animation as" and reloaded the project. Only to find that the chor had lost the names of the model shortcuts. I redid those and rendered again and, while that was going through thought to use Multiple master to animate the next part of the idea. Ever since the MakeNormalMap.atx material was replaced by the Surface Normal buffer in the render engine I've always had unpredictable results. I couldn't seem to get a flat plane that was orthogonal to the camera to return a consistent color of 128, 128, 255. Sometimes it did but many times a flat plane would come up short on the red & green channel. So in the course of generating wrinkle maps for the seats in the street car, I ran more than a few tests and have found the answer; to get the correct colours the algorithm needs a full range of surface normals in the image. This has had me puzzled for some time. I have a scene where the camera cranes down toward an object. The frames 0 + 2-10 renders normally, but frame 1 takes ages - at first I thought that A:M had crashed, but then realized that it just rendered and rendered and rendered and rendered...even if nothing at all is in the frame. The culprit seems to be the displacement on the object. If I turn of the displacement (or change it to bump) the long wait on frame one disappears. But why, oh why? What is happening in frame one?? Why ONLY in frame one? And why superlong rendering in an empty frame? If anyone like to take up the challenge I have attached all files here.

Hey, can someone check to see if creating a pose and editing it works correctly in version 19F? I'm in the middle of something and had to go back a version to get it to work, so can't make a choreography to report it. On the Mac side, it makes the indicator on the pose slider bar disappear. You can click on it and move around and things will happen, but the bar remains blank. On the Windows side, it seemed to appear while you were actually clicking on it, but then disappeared once you unclicked. It might just be something on my side, but wanted to make sure.

Hey there, been using AM since the early 90s and recently upgraded to Windows 10 on my main PC and the security features on my old CDs no longer work. I will be keeping this PC for at least another few years and wanted the never expires option tied to a single PC. But I don't see it on the store and when I finally do upgrade to a new PC what is the process to transfer the license to the new PC? Thanks!

It seems like the spline architecture has radically shifted. I've been noticing strange weirdnesses over the last few updates and it seems that they don't behave as they once did. I tried to simply combine two splines on my most recent model and the bias handles remain separated for some reason on each side resulting in a "peak." This is not ideal if you want a flowing line. Attached shows the splines/ bias....before and after joining. This is very weird.

Hello, I found that the export of a model containing constraints of path, once animated and exported like a model, loses its constraints and the bones are not in their positions. Here is an image illustrating the problem, and the model to test the problem. Are there some things I did wrong?

Working in V17 I asked a while back about Toon render settings. As there was a save option, I had thought that, as I found a setup I liked, I could save it in the render options window and reload it later (?) I appears I was mistaken. Is there a way to do that and, if so, how do you do it ? Using the little sliders in the Toon option, "overide shading' drop down, its a case of doing it by eye to get the divisions required. Is there a way of doing it numerically so I can record it and reuse later? Thank you for your time simon

Working away today on the Ghosts idea I keep getting a recurring problem with the values settings for a chor. Working in V18B When the chor was set up initially it had an image sequence 00:19:20 frames long. The chor defaulted to that value and was saved as such. Further along, the image sequence has been deleted from the project, the chor resaved as something else and, no matter how many times I reset the length to 00:05:00 and save it afresh, when reloaded it has defaulted back to 00:19:20. It has happened about 10-15 times today. I'm getting close to ranting !!! I've got used to the fps defaulting to 30 and the rotate to 5 but the changes in the …

Hats off to Steffen and Gerald (and to all that helped) for this feature! I'm not much of a modeler and I'm not a big fan of using props, but this is fantastic. This is the first time trying this and this is what I have after a couple of hours. The spline layout may not be the best, but it's a start. Still needs work, but I'm pretty happy with the results.

Setting up the opening and closing scene for the Dance sequence, its taking part in the young mans bedroom at home. Have made the model of the house and now trying to set up the lights in the chor. The first problem is that the lights are penetrating the mesh and showing up where they shouldn't. Is there a way to avoid this ? This is the scene, looking down the stairs to the hallway. The light source, a Klieg light , is outside, to the right of the model, in the street ( its supposed to be a passing car ). Why when you click on the button "Force KeyFrame" in AM v.17 animated object takes the initial values??? I can not turn off constraints of animated object (in AM v.17) without moving the object to the initial state. In attach example v16: At frame 40 - constraint is ON (Translate To & Orient Like) At frame 80 - constraint is OFF (Translate To & Orient Like) How it works in v17? When I load a project that then looks for files, such as jpgs etc that aren't in the location the project expects, AM opens up a file window to locate it BUT the file window will not allow me to drill to a lower level - only to a higher level. AND, having navigated to a higher level will not let me navigate to the original lower level. iMac - OSX 10.9.1. Most likely a Mac issue - can someone confirm before I lodge a AM Report. Cheers

Hiya, So, I actually could/should have asked this during the get together, but I didn't think to. I've noticed that for some functions to work, you have to "click-select" a node. You can't box select it. Lathe is an example. Why is that? Is it something to do with how splines work? Or is it just something that was programmed that way, and remained so through all the versions? It's not a problem. It's just as easy either way, I was just curious if there was a reason behind it. Thanks!

I seem to recall a simplemethod for doing this... Perhaps someone can set me on the right path. I have a material that is saved as two different materials. The main difference between the two is that one is set with displacement and the other is for color. Both materials can then be applied to a group to better control the texture. That's not part of the problem... just a little background/setup. I dropped the color material onto a different group in the model and tweaked the settings. I like the changes so want to keep that new material. The issue is how to save/export that material as a new material. If I stepped away from the computer for awhile the a…

Hi all! A very long time since I posted here :-) I am currently re-rendering my Bella Bear project at 1024 x 576 (16:9) HD ratio since it looks so dated in the format it is. I haven't done anymore work on the project but I just wanted to re-render it an familiarise myself with it again (all those hours I put into it). Anyway I have hit a stumbling block on one of the sections when it comes to rendering, I am getting perculiar shadows which I can get rid of using multi-pass but this ups the render times by a factor of four... I am using AM 14c, I know there is a newer version out there but I am loathe to re-render everything in that version since it might break…

Animating a 100metre sprint in V17g Made the mistake of not moving the model bone with each step ( decided not to make the same mistake with the runner in the next lane ). However, as I procede, the model bone seems to keep growing in the Y axis, or rather the rotate handle on it does. Is this normal ? A consequence appears to be that, when trying to select a rig bone, it has become easier to select the model bone by mistake and more difficult to select the rig bone without having to use the PWS. Can someone tell me what the last stable Mac version of AM is please. Latest version (18L) Standard and SSE4 just crash continuously - I can't even create a project, load an object then save the project without a crash (everytime) or the Mac version really hates Tars assets! I literally can't get more than 5-10 clicks before it crashes - can't render, can't save though it does seem to let me just pose a model as long as I like....

Ok starting Monday June 30th 2014 12:01am Hash servers will be coming down for a planned outage of about 12-18 hours something will stay down longer. Like stills(it's going to take a bit longer then thought to get 100% working but only groups are broke now) The return order is Activation > Store > Forums(because it's a lot of work) stills then i go to sleep.

I recently snagged v 19 and am and wanted to do a test using cloth. First I made a couple of primitives. Next I made s plane and applied a cloth material. When I drop them in the chor and animate the plane the cloth does't seem to simulate but rather the plane just moves from point a to point be as i set it. My goal ultimately after someone is kind enough to enlighten me on what I am missing in my prj is to simulate a sheet and ultimately export it out when conformed to various shapes as a quad obj that I can convert to nurbs and eventually be able to make parts that I can cast (ie die cast models). It's always a good idea to save your files... that and close all the hundreds of other programs you've forgotten to close... you know... to free up memory. I think this guy was anticipating what was about to happen to him so I took a screen shot of the only thing left of him when things went south. So, don't forget to save your work! P.S. Hi, I just worked my way through some trouble with Video-Codecs and I found some interesting things which apply to A:M too. Many think, that you can only output uncompressed AVIs with Windows-Versions of A:M if you want to export a video-file. Since Apple dropped the support for Windows 64bit-Quicktime-Output, it seems hard to output directly to a video format from A:M (which still applies for MOVs), but it really isn't. What you need to understand is, that A:M 64bit is a 64bit-software and like that it can only use Codecs which are 64bit-compatible. (and if you use A:M for 32-bit on Windows, it can only use 32bit codecs.) I just tested it and A:M can e…

Over in the 'Buying a Cafe' topic Steve was kind enough to share his settings for Sub Surface Scattering. I know there are several topics on settings but this is something I've longed to understand versus just occasionally reference.
