With the recent talk of Copy/Pasting poses I thought I'd revisit Dopesheets... For years I've wanted to put together a tutorial on the extended use of A:M's Dopesheet and have consistently failed to do it. The attached isn't much improved from that but rather than throw it away it might be of use to someone. In the distant past I vaguely recall that it was possible to save an animation in a chor and edit it as an action file before reapplying in a chor ? But can't remember how to do it, can anyone kindly point me in the right direction? Baking actions seems to add a key on every frame, is there a way to just save the keys already set without adding further in the baking process ? I'm trying to do a dance sequence and, rather than redo it all, would like to use it as an action so I can get several figures doing the steps at the same time. regards simon Edit I found how to do it, clicking in PWS and selecting,EXPORT as Action. I started to use markers in the chors a while back. The work has improved since ! However, sometimes they appear and sometimes they don't? For example, have just setup some in a top view and entered the place values for them. The arrows are there on the window frame, but the lines don't appear in the window. In the front view meanwhile, those lines do show. Is this a known glitch ? regards simon 0SX V17g

A:M won't launch. The splash screen appears for a few seconds, then disappears and the software is no longer active. A:M version: 17.0g Mac OS 10.6.8, Macbook Pro 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB ram Tried trashing prefs, tried a fresh install, and tried rebooting. Don't know what else to try. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Using an environment map in v 17 and it looks like a color decal instead of reflections. I can't tell if I'm missing a step but I recall it was pretty straightforward. Is there an additional *something* I need to do to get the reflective quality?

Heeeeeelp!!! What's happening here? The (tiled) decals on the building in the background of this shot jumps and jitters when rendered!! Anybody experienced anything similar, and maybe even have a remedy?

Hi all Is there a setting somewhere in AM to keep all the drop down menus within the properties window open/down all the time. e.g. when selecting a bone and I want to get to the rotate z value I need to drop/click the 'transform' button then drop 'rotate' button to get to the' z' value. Then if I choose a different bone I need to follow the process again..... etc....etc Is there a way to keep all those values open all the time. Hope my question is clear. Thanks

something weird happened. i was working in after effects cs6 while a:m v16 ran in the background. somehow my graphics card did some weird stuff, my desktop-image was gone for a few seconds for instance, and the computer got slow... i forced quit on after effects, then regularly shut down a:m and restarted the computer. after that the project workspace in a:m was gone. and i can´t get it to show up any more. but only in v16. in v15, v17, v18, everything was still there like it should be. i deleted my v16 version and reinstalled it, but STILL no project workspace. how can that be???? i´m on a mac, OS 10.68 btw. i´d very much like to get v16 running again, it´…

Hello again, Investigating lipsync using decals and I'm wondering if I can import a sequence of mouth position images and then advance the decal sequence to the desired frame or phoneme image using a pose slider. I've gotten as far as hiting the driver icon but then...I stop. Note I'm using v11.1 (I recently upgraded ) Thanks for any ideas or confirmations.

I have a laptop with an Optimus chipset, that can switch back and forth between an integrated GPU and a Quadro 2000. I have noticed that there are some problems when scrubbing through a timeline, it seems like it is dropping frames (Robcat knows what I'm talking about). Is this a known issue with integrated graphics? Or maybe it is something with the way optimus switches between the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU. I hate to completely disable the integrated GPU, it will kill my battery life. Is anyone else out there experiencing problems with integrated GPUs on laptops?

Hi, For reasons I can't figure out after days of struggling, a project created and originally rendered in V14g looks way different when rendered in the latest AM version and I just need to change a few seconds of the scene and insert it but it must look the same as the existing video. I should have had a copy of V14c but I must have lost it when I lost a disk a year ago. I need to find a copy of AM V14g to install to render this scene. Why when you click on the button "Force KeyFrame" in AM v.17 animated object takes the initial values??? I can not turn off constraints of animated object (in AM v.17) without moving the object to the initial state. In attach example v16: At frame 40 - constraint is ON (Translate To & Orient Like) At frame 80 - constraint is OFF (Translate To & Orient Like) How it works in v17? I am wondering if I could generate a height map from objects in a scene. What I want to ultimately do is create one grayscale image that can be used as a displacement or height map. I have a small laser engraver that seems capable of carving from grayscale images into various materials such as wood, plastic etc. I'm also thinking of doing carvings to make molds from for pewter castings. Thoughts?

I notice that when working on SmartSkins, in the PWS you can on a CP or Spline number and get the option to "Select Spline #" or "Select CP #". However nothing appears happen when choosing either. What should happen? However it would be immensely useful it those options did in fact highlight their counterparts in the actual SmartSkin window. This would make altering/tweaking just a few Cps in a SmartSkin much easier to do later on if one was not happy the first time round. Is this in fact what is supposed to happen? If so then I think it's broke

I had let my version 16 expire back in november and had to use my version 12 cd version these past few months . So I had forgotten how nice 16 was. Today I finally got version 17 and have to say --wow its so much nicer than 12 --by light years. ANd renders seem faster than 16 . The render speed seems very fast indeed. My only thoughts for anyone with 12 or older for sure ....just toss that aside and upgrade asap ----you will be very happy indeed . Its AM yummyiness. Nice job developer(s). Smiles . Now on to having some fun.

Animating with the 2008 rig in a chor with V17, keys keep appearing when the option was not selected ? If I rotate the head geometry bone it sets a key for the scale target, likewise with the pelvis geometry. The scale skeletal button is not selected in the bottom left corner, and it happens intermittently, sometimes it does, others not. Have tried deleting it in the PWS but it keeps coming back. This is in anticipation of next brief, so not urgent but,I was thinking of using the theme of a swing in a child's playground and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on the best way to rig the swing? Must there be only one? The participation for this contest is the highest that I can recall in a very long time here. Not only that but I think that most of the entries in this year's mascot contest are really very good. I counted ten entries that I think could easily be justified as the splash screen for A:M v18. So why use just one this year? Why not change it where the new A:M uses a random (or cycled) splash screen at each start-up? I'd like to see this because I enjoyed so many of the entries. I can't say that only one should be the "winner". I'm not suggesting handing out 1st place to everyone but if the top 5 placing entries this yea…

In the startup screen for V17 there is a link for a tutorial on editing curves. When clicked on it says that it is not yet available but will be presently. Is there any news on when it may be available? Its an area that I need to become more familiar with. regards simon

Hey. Has anyone else noticed that sometimes the rotation handle on the model doesn't match the axis in the graph editor? I've seen this happen on several occasions in V17 this year. But I thought I'd at least mention it here. I ran into another case today. If you look at this screen capture, you'll notice that I'm moving the X(red) axis rotation of the bone, but in the graph editor it is registering as the Z(blue) axis. That seems very odd and can get confusing when animating. Has anyone else had this happen? Cheers, William

I'm about to do some briefs using two figures on a seesaw ( teeter totter in US ? ) and wondered what the best way might be to constrain them to sit on the plank might be ? Tried constraining them to a bone in the seat, with a translate to but they seemed to move relative to the bone when the board was rotated ?. Now have two nulls, one to each side and the figures translated to those. Are there other methods anyone can suggest ? regards simon

I downloaded the technical reference help for the mac today and placed in in the the program folder as instructed. Please excuse the question but, how do I now access it from within the program. When I used to work on PC's there was a keyboard shortcut ( F12 ? ) that brought up the help option.Its been a few years since then. I have a figure pushing a large heavy sphere. Keyed the basic poses and timing and ready to start refining it. A problem at the moment is that the hands penetrate the mesh of the sphere when the pushing position changes. Is there a way to prevent this, other than keying it every other frame to prevent it. Is there a constraint that can be used or, might editing the curves do it ? Any help gratefully received. regards simon

Hi, I posted this before and we all decided it had to be related to other Windows 8 weirdness but I completely reloaded the OS and all other problems are gone but my notebook is still shit canning me on A:M shortcut keys. My system info is below. Description: The Navigation tools work when the tool icon is selected but not when the shortcut key is used even though the mouse pointer changes the way it should. As far as I can tell it is only the navigation tools. Everything else works. Hi, I screwed up thinking that the word I wanted was 'Quadology' and my proof reader said she could not verify that this word existed and suggested I use Quadrilogy instead, which I did everywhere. Now I find out that this isn't 'really' a word either and that I should have used Tetralogy. Crap! I have a lot of changes to make--almost everything!! Including the animated trailer. Hey all, Dunno if this ever got an answer, but is there some limit on the number of light sources in a given chor? Just added a model to a chor that already had a different one (admittedly, both are lightsource heavy) and lost all environmental lighting. removing the 2nd model from the chor re-established them. Is there a standard way to get a sphere ? I ask because I was trying to have a go at the current animation challenge and was using the ball made for last weeks brief. Only to find that its not as spherical as I had thought. The original was a lathed spline which had been adjusted to get the correct curvature, or so I thought Is there a standard method for such a primitive shape? regards simon

I'm trying to animate a ball spinning on a finger and wondered what might be the best way to achieve that ? Tried using the repeat option in the graph editor under post interpolation but with no joy. Presently keying it every frame to rotate through 176-9 degrees. Is there another possible way to do this ? Any help gratefully received. regards simon

Hi there, i know, there is a obj exporter included in AM. But i think, that when i recall it right the obj-exporter by A. Walasek archived better results. Its a long time ago, and i may recall that not right. However, does anybody know how to get the old Walasek exporter to work? Is it a 64bit problem again? Regards Heiner

Thought I'd have a try at some basic exercises and trying to get a ball rolling properly. In preparation for the idea, pose sliders were used for the rotation and spins. However this was not one of my better ideas ! Does anyone have good advice as to how to achieve it ? The ball is setup with a single bone for the mesh and that controls the rotation and spin and the distance with the model bone ( hope that makes sense ?) Might there be a better way ? regards simon

I managed to get my entry for the wall contest done in time and was working on a higher res version for myself when the following strange problem occurred. Here is the model from the view of an ortho camera. It shows the shades as they have been previously. This the same scene rendered from the perspective camera, immediately after the above. All the settings are the same the only thing that has changed is the camera viewpoint and type, ( orthogonal to perspective ). As you can see. Hello I've just bought animation master, and I try some basic animation (bouncing ball, etc). But in the graph editor, I can't display bezier handle (spline interpolation is selected). It's possible to display bezier handle since I've seen animation master tutorial where people clic on keyframe to display bezier handle.
